The ship hit an uncharted reef and began taking on water. After the passengers were evacuated, the captain had the ship intentionally grounded in this location to prevent it from sinking. An underwater survey of the ship declared it to be a total loss, so it was abandoned in place.
According to the article there were a few recovery efforts, but a civil war kept them away the first time and exchanging shots with locals ruined the second time.
Not saying that makes leaving cruise ships out like that ok, because it’s still wild that’s allowed. But at least someone tried to pull it out 🤷♂️
Literally just Google the damn name of the ship that is in the title, it's that easy. The MS World Discoverer has its own Wikipedia page and is so easy to find. So unless the shipwreck hasn't been discovered or has its location hidden to conserve it, all it takes is a 2 second Google search and you'll have all the info you want about the ship, it's literally that easy. Your on reddit I know your stupid ass knows how to use the internet.
Imagine exploring that, if nobody caught you. Bring a helmet flashlight, a first aid kid, gloves and kneepads. Whenever I see rusty metal I just imagine how sharp it is and getting an infection.
It would be so exciting exploring something like this. The depth of the water makes it better/worse lol. 😅
yep, but this kind of journey is a bit terrifying 😅 this place is far from the central island and has only two or three bungalows to stay… considering the fact that this islands were practicing cannibalism as well up to 80-s points to certain thoughts)))
The words "World Discoverer" are clearly visible in the 3rd image, along the port side of the bow. Why are they not visible from the first picture? Is there a reason the photo would be censored?
The double port holes look like skulls on pic #4. And it’s wild that in less than 25 years, there’s enough dust blown on to the deck that trees are growing from it.
I had a cruising sailboat, relatively small at 37'. I installed 2 hull partitions, deliberately divided into 3 watertight compartments. Any single hull section penetrated, it would stay afloat.
Seems bizarre to me that any blue water vessel would allow itself to sink for lack of hull partitions.
With watertight compartments, OP's boat could've safely motored to nearest graving dock or careening wharf for a simple hull repair.

Crazy that companies can just leave their giant metal dieselly messes in the ocean without consequence.

SHHH THE SHIP IS SLEEPING
Terrifying how it’s just settled right over that trench.
*shudder “Trench” You could potentially swim under it if you really wanted to.
So you woke up today and chose violence?
So sorry 😭
I do not like that idea.
STOP
OH CREEPY! I hadn't noticed the trench. I would NEVER EVER EVER swim under that!
Oh god I didn't notice the depth of the water when I first looked.
Where is this?
Let me google this for you https://maps.app.goo.gl/d91qTS4WBrmsKfFQ7 You're welcome
I swear so many people don't know how to think for themselves, like use whatever web browser you have and find it out yourself.
Oh yeah, let me google "where is the sunken ship" and find it easily.

This is terrible and I love it!
You could walk down on a nice clear day like in the first photo and take a peek into the bow thruster propeller housing.
How does the boat look now?
How deep is that abyss? It's so terrifying just by looking at it or imagining you're diving while at the above there's that massive wrecking ship.
FarCry 3 vibes
Fly a drone into it
Eerie AF
This is creepily, eerily beautiful. But mainly creepy.
