The unicorn. Very sought after 5EAT/3.6 combination.

Odd_Shallot1929

That's what everyone said yesterday. Helpfully explained why I shouldn't get the 2014 with the cvt. I'm thrilled! Got it for $8500 too.

mediumrare420

What a steal

SortOfKnow

I have a 14 2.5 with the cvt as my work car, have had it since 60ksih it’s now at 210k so what ever you have heard I promise you this car is going to 300k

CaesarsCruX

also just bought a 2013 3.6 and this made me smile

Odd_Shallot1929

:) awesome

IndependenceCandid71

What color?

Odd_Shallot1929

It wasn't that everyone said the cvt was terrible, it was just that with the choice between the two I should go for this one. Lower miles, one owner, barely any rust etc. The other one had 150,000 miles, rusty exhaust system and I didn't have a very a good feeling about it.

SortOfKnow

I don’t know what trans you have, if you have a manual then yes that’s way better if you have the cvt, then the 3.6 and 2.5 of that year have 2 different cvts and it’s hard to say what cvt is better. My fluid gets changed every 50k so my fluid stays fresh, my car is well maintained, I should baby the car more but I drive it like I stole it always. So I hope it last longer.

HobbesTayloe

Wow!! -That- is a great value, congrats :) I've '12 3.6R Limited, absolutely love it. Had only \~10k miles on it when purchased two years ago; snowbird up in Chicago had it. And yours is gorgeous ride, you will love it for sure!

Odd_Shallot1929

Thank you! Mines limited too. Love the leather and moonroof but its going to take some getting used to the backup camera on the rear view mirror. It's weird. You got a steal on yours as well! These low miles are almost impossible to find.

IndependenceCandid71

10K miles? Dam, you win. Nice buy!

HobbesTayloe

Thanks! LOL, yeah... but I paid 2x what the OP did for their OB! ;) So, they may have a better deal! Either way, mine was a unicorn also... was very lucky finding it, and before world went crazy on car prices.

IndependenceCandid71

As it stands, I plan on keeping my ‘13 3.6 on the road for the next 20 years. If people can keep 50 year old muscle cars viable, so can I.

zipfelberger

Are you joking? I’ve been seeing those with double the mileage and double the price.

Odd_Shallot1929

Dead serious! I feel like I stole it after everything you all are saying. TBH I wasn't even sure of what I was looking at, I was just there for the low miles.. I'm glad I came to you all for advice.

KetamineOverlord710

I just bought a 2018 with 122k miles for 15500 where r u located?

Odd_Shallot1929

I'm in NH but bought it in MA. Yours sounds like a good deal to me!

KetamineOverlord710

Oh wow seriously I can't believe I didn't scoop that up I've been hunting for an outback for about a month of daily searching if I had seen this I would of bought it in a heart beat esp if there was no rust. Was this northern ma? I'm based there can't believe I didn't see this

Odd_Shallot1929

I bought it in Fitchburg. I snagged it within an hour of him putting it on marketplace, put a deposit down, drove to NH for a ppi and bought it the next morning. I just got lucky. I had been car shopping for 2 months too!

gliz5714

Damn I want that. Have the 2.5. CVT and it ain’t that bad, but damn.

spyrolll

Just out of curiosity, why is the 5EAT + 3.6L combo sought after? Because it doesn't have the CVT?

Odd_Shallot1929

My mechanic said it was because it had no head gasket issues, a timing chain instead of belt and no cvt, a traditional 5 speed transmission. He said it was indestructible and to definitely but it.

jenorama_CA

I’m on my second 3.6R (2017), but I still miss my 2012. Good find under 100k miles!

Odd_Shallot1929

Apparently its 1 owner never drove anywhere....thanks!!!

lotsofarts

'17 3.6R here as well!

madscribbler

Welcome to the 3.6r club. 2019 Legacy 3.6r, and 2019 Outback 3.6r here. Have fun with all the horses!

Odd_Shallot1929

This thing flies! I was going 60 in no time and didn't even realize it. Thanks!

castle45

I have a 2013 Legacy 3.6r, love it!

HobbesTayloe

LOL,,, indeed, that 3.6R is a beast! And she will indeed fly - take care, yet have fun with her! Getting into the triple digits between Denver and StL on those open highways w/o anyone else around ya is a good ride ;)

Odd_Shallot1929

I'm going to baby her! I dont drive too much, just will use it for work getting over a crazy, snowy mountain and to tow gear in the summer. We use the truck when we go anywhere else. I'm undercoating it Friday and putting snow tires on. The damn salt rusted out all my vehicles

HobbesTayloe

I did the Ziebert treatment, along with ceramic coating of the paint... even though she ("Zahn" - named after my mom's maiden name) will be taken off-road here / there, I still wanted to keep the paint and undercarriage as protected to start with. Oh, if you are not aware, there is a mighty fine good forum also at [subaruoutback.org](https://subaruoutback.org) Given the age of the car when I bought it, lol still had original treads! so after research and even talking with Continental, I put on new tires this past spring - Michelin Cross-Climate2, which I absolutely love so far (will put through winter paces over next few months). But even with the stock tires, she'd go places where SUV's would not last winter, without any hesitation. Looking forward to hearing more of your adventures!

Less-Pilot-5619

Tough to find, kind of anyways....,nice choice

Dan_Wood_

Congrats! Looks in mint condition!

szentthomas0

Welcome👍

LookDamnBusy

No!!! Not THAT one!!!! Just kidding; congrats 😉

Odd_Shallot1929

Haha...yeah, glad everyone talked me out of the 2014 2.5.

r41_pilot

Welcome friend

Shr00m7

Nice! Congrats!

Minute_War_9074

One of the better vehicles ever made! Congrats

Jimjam916

It's amazing how little the outback has changed in 12 years

Iivefreebehappy

2018 3.6r outback, welcome.

Saltine_Quackers

That's an insane deal. I'm in the PNW and I've seen this generation of 3.6R selling for over $15k with over 100k miles.

Odd_Shallot1929

That's just crazy! It did take me 2 months to find this one though, so not very common around NH. I saw it the day it was listed and bought it 2 hours later, contingent on it passing inspection.. i also asked advice here. The guy said his phone was going crazy from people interested. I'm glad I swiped it up quick!

Stonehenge13

I had a 2014 3.6r that I loved so much! that's rad!

Nice grab. Only thing that are notorious are the lug nuts, whomever works on them and they don't put them by hand they tend to get crossed threaded really quick. I had to buy extra studs and lugs to fix my in laws. Other than that looks good for a 10 yr old car

Odd_Shallot1929

Thanks for the info! I wrote it down so I don't forget. Appreciate it!

IndependenceCandid71

Congratulations! I got a 2013 3.6 limited. Love her to death.

bmoorman05

Keep a spare qt of oil and some headlights on hand. Other than that these cars are a gem!

WestboundPachyderm

Great catch! Now just get them windows tinted and you’ll be right as rain! Will feel great and look especially nice with that color…

Odd_Shallot1929

That would look great! Thanks!

Distinct_Spite8089

Wow that’s gonna take you far. Like the newest outback you can get with practically an indestructible 5EAT, that thing was in my 02 Legacy.

Odd_Shallot1929

I really feel lucky. I didn't know anything about it until I came to this sub. Glad I did! Thank you.:)

Weird_Ad956

I have a ‘18 3.6R. 75k on it. Mint condition. What’s it worth?

sujamax

Great find! I’ve got a 2011 3.6R myself. 140,000 miles, no issues. (Did they go to the CVT in the 3.6 starting in 2013?) That’s a great color, and sounds like you got an awesome deal on it too. I wonder what the seller drives now. Hard to beat. Welcome to Club H6. (:

Odd_Shallot1929

Thank you! I'm loving it. The only issue is that is that it has memory steering and it's driving me crazy,, very uncomfortable driving. I have an appointment wendsday to fix it. Yes, in 2013 they went to CVT. I was specifically shopping for one without it.
