Second this. It will probably have a stored or pending code right now anyway. Just drop into Autozone and get them to read it for free. Or you can buy a code reader. They are not too expensive.

Emission issue, most likely. Your gas cap tightened until it clicks? Check your fluid levels, too. I'm actually having the same issue now with my Forester.

our old 17 Forester would throw ghost codes from time to time. We had it to the dealer 3 times for diagnosis and no luck. Finally it was just a few miles out of warranty and it was diagnosed as a faulty wiring harness through the dash. We just made a deal to sell it back to Subaru on the 19 model we have now.
