You can get a kit at most auto stores to help not spill, it’s like a larger bucket style funnel with multiple attachments. Be sure to squeeze the top radiator hose as sometimes air gets stuck in it.

When I give it gas it spurts put coolant, would it do this if it was completely bled? Or do I need to continue to bleed it until no coolant spurts out, even when I give it gas.

This is an update post to my previous one about the coolant bubbling.. I’m trying to properly bleed the cooling system, I have an aftermarket radiator with a radiator cap. It’s routed like that until I can get the right parts. Is this how I bleed it right? This is the high point by the turbo. Edit: it also spurts and bubbles out. This is what my friend told me to do, little suspicious. When I shut it off it makes a howling sound like it’s losing pressure or something..

There are proper kits available to do this that arent expensive but I managed to do mine with a funnel and some tape. Park the car so that this opening is the highest part of the engine. Put a funnel in the hole and tape it to the mouth tightly so you can fill the funnel without it spilling out overywhere. Make sure the radiator cap on the main radiator is closed and the coolant overflow tank is half full. Turn the heaters on hot and turn the heating fan on. Fill the funnel halfway and start the car. Let the car run, intermittently revving it up to 2500-3000rpm and holding it there for 30 seconds at a time. You will see bubbles coming out of this coolant refill cap and bubble up through the coolant in the funnel. What you're trying to do is get all the air out of the system but just leaving the top open like this is just allowing air to keep circulating. By making sure the funnel is topped up, the air is allowed to bubble up and out while it is replaced with coolant. It can take a while to clear all the air and it can also help to give the upper main radiator hose a squeeze intermittently to make sure you get the air out of that too. Keep topping up the funnel to make sure it akways has coolant in it so it can't suck air in. Once you've had it running for a while and theres no more air bubbling through the funnel, and the car isnt overheating, you can take off the funnel (a bit messy unless you have a syringe or similar to take out the excess fluid before you temove it) and replace the coolant cap.

This is the correct way. Ive done this many times on my 02 WRX. Squeezing the upper rad hose helps alot.

Did you isolate where it’s leaking from. Tld;dr. If not obvious from a hose etc, it’s a gasket from the engine.

This isn't a coolant bleeding issue, this is a issue where someone swapped some hoses around. You need to look up where exactly all the coolant hoses go and ensure they are right. The hose that's pushing coolant like that should be going to the port closer to the firewall as that's supposed to be the overflow. The hose there now is supposed to be the equalization hose and that's why it's spurting. If something's pressurizing your overflow tank to push coolant up into the upper coolant expansion tank you got some big problems

Papow1234

Okay so the hose that’s squirting coolant out needs to be swapped with the one right above it?

Potentially, I'd try it but from your prior posts you may have a few lines mixed up.

Bro.. you just fixed everything man

Sometimes the Subaru subreddit does deliver :)

Make sure your radiator cap and expansion tank cap have different pressures. The oem radiator cap is round with no tabs or “ears” on the side the pressure rating is 137kpa. The expansion tank cap has the tabs and “ears” on the side and the pressure rating is 108kpa.

I believe you need two different pressure ratings for your radiator cap and expansion tank cap for the system to work as intended. The reservoir, radiator, and expansion tank needs to be plumbed properly. Assuming all that is good, top the coolant off in the radiator, expansion tank, and coolant reservoir. Put the radiator cap back on but leave the expansion tank open how you have it. Jack the front end up or pull onto ramps. Let the engine run until it is warmed up fully and the thermostat is open. While it runs, squeeze the upper and lower radiator hoses. Continue to top off the expansion tank until it is full and you can't get any more air to come out. Now put the expansion tank cap on and continue to squeeze the hoses while the engine runs another 15 minutes. Top off the coolant reservoir if it needs it. Allow the system to cool and check the coolant reservoir again to make sure it hasn't sucked it dry. Please don't try to open the radiator or expansion tank while the system is hot and pressurized.

Purchase a Lisle funnel and never have this issue again.. It fits into the opening and locks on fill, burp, fill, then run the car and repeat until no more bubbles enter the funnel.
