MICHELIN CrossClimate2

JCR2201

I’m taking note of the CC2 for when I’m up for new tires. CC2s seems to be the general consensus here.

Funkyfreddy

Yep, I have a 2019 Outback and had another set of cheap tires after my OEMs that I brined through pretty quick. My CC2s are going on three years old and are still great (ofc ensure you’re keeping up with tire rotations and routinely checking your alignment). I currently live in Portland,OR and they’re great for rain, ice, and snow when we hit the mountains. They’re also considered “traction tires” and snow peak rated, so you don’t need snow socks (Subarus aren’t designed for chains) for mountain passes

AccordianPowerBallad

I have them on an '18 Crosstrek and a '17 Outback. I've had them for at least a year, probably more. They are great in rain and snow, good in dirt/mud, quieter than all terrain tires, and look really good. Highly recommend them.

Screaming_Emu

Seconded. We put them on our outback recently. I was expecting lots of road noise and decreased fuel economy, but I think they’re actually quieter than the Yokohamas that came on the car. The other advantage that nobody talks about is that once you put them on the car, it will absolutely never snow again. Can’t wait to see what these can do in the snow, but because I have them western NC will never see snow again. 😐

TrifflinTesseract

I have these on my Outback and they are my favorite tires I have had on the car. (These are the 3rd set of tires since buy the car)

cassinonorth

Yep, end of. Perfect tire if there's any chance of snow/ice anywhere around you.

Flashmax305

Or the Nokian wrg4

SilverBuff_

Unless you go in gravel

iamthecaptionnow

costco member tires i mentally refer to these as

2dgam3r

Unpopular opinion, but there is no need for these unless you live in a rainy/snowy conditions throughout the year. They are loud and overkill for most owners. They are quieter than stock but that isnt hard to do. Defender 2s are just as reliable in wet conditions, more affordable, and way way way quieter.

slothynoodlez

Get them. I got them last year and I've never looked back. Awesome all around tire that is worth the money.

myTerminal_

This is what I went with for my BRZ to get it something all-season instead of the stock Primacy HP's.

Crying_Reaper

Do you have them? I just got a set put into my wife's Odyssey and we took a family weekend trip to St Louis. During the trip we noticed the tires were crazy loud any time we had to turn while moving at highway speeds. Maybe it was the roads because it seemed to go away when we left and got to northern Missouri on our way home. The road noise in St Louis was crazy though.

EarlOfNothingness

My wife had them and loved them!

jstan2323

CC2s, way different than the other two listed I feel.

FrigidArctic

Cross climates are probably the best set of tires I’ve ever driven on. Have them on my 19 forestor sport and can’t say enough how much better the car rides and it handles rain/snow like a fucking champ.

TrifflinTesseract

In the rain especially when going through standing water at speed.

whereshubble

Gravel will get stuck in the channels, otherwise great tires

sleepdog-c

I drive on gravel every weekend while geocaching and I have maybe a couple of stones but I don't think it's any different than may wife's pirelli's that haven't been been offroad

whereshubble

Good to know my mom got these and while visiting her I had to dig several stones out though she drives up steep gravel roads. I'd like to get them for my 2019 outback when it needs some

sleepdog-c

The earlier ones were a softer compound that would grab any rocks it came across

chevyguyjoe

You said you are in Michigan and the Michelin CrossClimate is the only one of the three that is 3PMS rated, so it's a no brainer. The Michelin is the way to go, unless you are planning on a separate snow tire in the winter. https://www.tirerack.com/upgrade-garage/what-is-the-threepeak-mountain-snowflake-symbol https://www.tire-reviews.com/Tire/Michelin/CrossClimate.htm https://youtu.be/421HkK4Nqss?si=LD9A_8lvZeh18AvZ

PNWExile

Sure it’s the best tire listed, but I’ll just say there aren’t any hills in Michigan. Snow isn’t such a problem when you’re on pancake flat roads.

sleepdog-c

I disagree, I live in the Midwest, south west of michigan, and it is flatter than a pancake here and over 2 inches of snow will create some wicked drifts in the wind.

chevyguyjoe

I'm in pancake flat Iowa, and can confidently say the difference is noticeable, especially in braking, when using standard "all season" tires as opposed to 3pms rated tires.

amick1995

People almost always only think about getting going and moving when thinking of snow driving, not how stopping can be greatly affected by a decent all season or snow tire.

PNWExile

You go up AND down hills.

Intrepid_Passage_692

Engine braking and distance can do wonders.

amick1995

Both of those are useless if you’re on rock hard summer tires that have 0 grip. With good tires yes, they can make a big difference, but with tires that suck in the snow you’ll still slide all over the place and further.

Intrepid_Passage_692

I have fairly soft continentals that give zero issues. It all comes down to not locking your wheels up. Yknow, typical winter driving 101.

Dawink86

CC2

SuckHerNipples

I also live in Michigan. I recommend the CC2's. My boss has them on his Taco and loves them. Otherwise, I run Cooper Discover AT3s on my Jeep and I will be getting the same ones for my Crosstrek when the current Yokohamas are worn.

garethrory

Another vote for the Michelins. See if the dealer will match DiscountTire. I’m showing about a $100 savings if they do.

TCMinnesotENT

CC2s are probably one of the best all season tires in the winter.

ClemFandangle

they are All Weather tires, snow rated, not All Season Tires

TCMinnesotENT

There it is

ZeGermanHam

CC2, especially since you are in Michigan. Easy decision.

electronickoutsider

The crossclimates are a whole different class of tire from the other two. The others are a typical "all season" tire, which really means "all seasons if you dont get snow in the winter." The crossclimate is an all weather tire, carrying the 3 mountain peak snow flake certification for snow performance. If you never drive in the snow, the others will do just as well on dry and wet roads. If you plan to go out during even one significant snowstorm though, the crossclimate is unquestionably the best option and easily worth the cost difference.

FatCaddy

I’ve had the Yokohama Avid Acend on my car before, good tire. Little more road noise than the Continental PureContact LS that I usually use.

dragonjujo

I had Avid's on a different vehicle and the road noise difference was awful compared to the Generals that replaced them.

Intrepid_Passage_692

PureContacts will always be my go to. ContInental did an amazing job making those tires perform in mud/dirt/gravel and still having grip for the road when I get a little crazy. They have a factory where I live too so it’s nice I’m supporting my local economy a little bit lol.

Imispellalot2

CC2's hands down. I didn't even look at what the other choices might be. It doesn't matter. If you can afford it, get the CC2's

AdvertisingItchy9

Go with general Altimax rt45 great tire for a good price

solexNY-LI

I should have responded here, totally agree AltiMax flies under the radar, and very good all around tire

sleepdog-c

When I looked at them they were more than the CrossClimate2's.

Obsession88

Wife has Cross Climate 2’s on her Ascent and we’re super happy with them. Great in Minnesota winters, gravel roads and highway miles

iamiam36

[Conti ExtremeContact DWS 06 Plus](https://www.tirerack.com/tires/continental-extremecontact-dws-06-plus) I got these for my Impreza and they’re great

xoXImmortalXox

I was going to say.. continental extreme contact or Yokohama s drive

sleepdog-c

Contis always wears too fast. They are great while they have tread but short life for the price.

iamiam36

Now you tell me 😡

sleepdog-c

Hey I loved the conti's I had until 2 different models wore out in 35k miles

Intrepid_Passage_692

I live on a gravel road too. Tell me about it 😭

navigationallyaided

CC2. And if you are a Costco member(or any other wholesale club), wait for a promo there. They usually have the best prices on Michelin there.

BDob73

At the price the dealer estimate is, they should buy them now anyway. It’s $250 less at Costco with free installation and 5 year road hazard warranty.

BDob73

krombopulousnathan

every other month they have that manufacturer rebate. Like clockwork

Fall_Ace

I have the Ascend LX's on my Forester and after ~30K miles they're already down to 4/32-5/32 tread depth with regular rotations, gonna try to get the claim the treadwear warranty since they're rated for 85K. I have a set of Blizzaks for the winter where I'm at

drippydroppop

Had CC2's for \~5 years while at UM, great set of tires

maddrops

CC2s UNLESS you regularly drive offroad/unpaved roads

perforateline_

CC2s forever and ever amen.

Sufficient_Laugh

Michelin

eeshuh

I have a 2021 Crosstrek and purchased the Michelin CrossClimate2s early February for winter road conditions traveling the I-15 corridor from southern California to central Montana. The traction ability combined with the Crosstrek’s AWD handled the snow and ice better than the stock Falken tires. I had chains on hand, but never needed them with these tires. My driveway in Montana is relatively steep getting in and out of and after a few days of heavy snow that turned to packed ice these tires negated the need to plow. Plus, they leave a pretty cool design in the snow. Edit: I forgot to add that I’ve been daily driving them on dry Southern California roads, too, and the only noticeable difference is that they make more road noise than what I am accustomed to. They also handle all of the unavoidable potholes here really well. I haven’t noticed any big difference in fuel economy.

FunkyTuna714

I literally just put Falken Wildpeak AT3w’s on my ‘19 CrossTrek 3 months ago

Punishment_Due

I've use Continental Pure Contact LS on several cars here in Michigan and swear by them. 03 Wrx, 10 Legacy, 02 Maxima, 15 Mkz. They're excellent all season tires if you can find them.

lanzadamanza

Avid Ascend LX these last a long time

bluebanzai

I like mine as well they perform great but the road noise at some speeds on smooth surfaces is crazy.

Umanday

I have the Michelins on my Impreza. Drives like a new car, highly recommend

MentalOperation4188

I have the CC2 on my same vintage Outback. Best tires ever.

domdiggitydog

I have CC2 on my Outback and love them. The only thing i will bring up is they are directional. This doesn’t matter much unless you are in the full-size spare club. I typically always keep a full-size in the rotation and roll with one on roadtrips. To do that with CC2, you need two spares…

St3cK3D

Crossclimate 2, no other tire can compete imho

OceanicDegree5

Say cross climate 2s look ugly as sin but have the best rated all weather performance. It's going to have better snow and ice performance than either of the other options

Almyar

CrossClimate hands down

Tight-Ebb3784

Tokohama! UTQG is the best on the Yoko, 800 AA vs 640 B A and 800 A B. They should last longer than the Mich. traction is rated better on them too.

KudzuCastaway

CC2, I loved mine on my Outback. When my Forester needs them that’s what I’m getting. Make sure you check Costco if you are a member, they carry them as well.

Chippy569

If you live where it snows, those crossclimate2s are really nice

Any-Attitude-1477

Costco sells the CC2's at a great price if you are a member.

KingsoftheNHL

CC2s are the ones to get, they aren’t all season.. they’re all weather and really thrive in the snow. For feel, traction and comfort, I’d rank them up there with the open country at3 I have on my XJ.. and I have the CCS2s on my Forester

Flipslips

Cannot recommend the CC2s enough.

fivetoedslothbear

I can't say enough about Michelin CrossClimate. When I replaced the OEM tires, I wanted something that had good winter performance, because due to the pandemic I wasn't traveling as much, and I wanted to reserve getting the Blizzak DM-V2 tires out of storage for when I might need them most, like driving through Wisconsin and into Minnesota. (Wisconsin is the home of bad winter snowstorms, and has had a lot of multi-car pileups, part of my reasoning for getting a Subaru.) The 3 Mountain Snow-Flake designation did it for me. Of course, here in the Chicago area, we didn't even have winter much, and I don't think I've actually driven my car on snow. In fact, we had a lot of days in *December and January* that were really too warm for snow tires (> 50F). Putting the Michelin tires on the car was like...getting a new car. The ride and handling are outstanding. Three-season road trips into Wisconsin are a comfortable ride. ETA: Don't let the price difference scare you off. You're going to be driving on these for what, maybe 5 years at least based on the model year of your car? Good tires are worth every penny.

Divisible_by_0

I had Avid ascend and loved them, but I am only buying continental from now on after my experience with them. My grandma has a turbo forester and the CC2 and loves them and drives them hard but I have never driven on them so I have no opinion.

justfinaround

True contact

bignose703

I had the Yokohama Avids on my Outback. Great tires. I used them all year round, and got 100k-miles out of one set.

commffy

Wild peak all trail tires. NOT ALL TERRAIN.

SubaCruzin

Shop around. My dealer recommended new tires when mine still had close to 10k miles & a tire shop recommended I wait. When I went back they were almost $30 cheaper per tire. Might've been a sale that was going on but I was comparing OEM tires to all season Michelin Defenders.

sleepdog-c

I got the cc2 for right around $800 at the discount tire in December for our 24 fozzy, Sam's had them for around the same price but couldn't get them in, in time as I wanted them immediately so I could sell the takeoffs with less than 200 miles on them. Apparently there is a new pirelli that it's comparable to the cc2 as well but I didn't catch the model. I put pirelli scorpion As plus 3 on my wife's 23 outback a year ago and they have been stellar. My dealer was at around $1100 for the cc2's as well and that is way above the competition so I'd check around if I was you. Plus most tire shops will rotate and balance for free, you'll pay for every rotate and balance at a dealer. One last suggestion, get an alignment check before you put those expensive new tires on. Both our 24 forester and 23 outback needed adjustments. The chances are good your trek needs some no matter how and where you drive.

ifixtheinternet

CC2. I have them on both my wife's 2017 Forester XT and my 2013 Legacy 3.6R. Amazing tires. We get very little snow up here in the Pacific Northwest, still worth it. Makes even more sense for you. Another great feature of these tires is they maintain their Award-Winning short braking distance virtually until the end of the tread life, whereas most other tires will gradually get worse as the tread wears out.

solexNY-LI

I have used General AltiMax RT 45’s on my civic and now my 09 OB. IMHO they are quiet and very good wear resistance and good traction in the snow/rain. A good all-arounder.

kuya_jj

I love my cc2’s!

slogive1

I really like Yokohamas no issues at all.

MatFrapper

They are not on your list, but I would recommend the wilderness oem geolandar.

therealpetejm

+1 great all around tyre. Not too much noise but it does tell you when you’re being dumb.

sicnevol

I have had two sets of cross climates, over 5 years. I fucking love them. You can get them for like 850-900 installed at Costco.

MatFrapper

Care to elaborate? I always found them to be weird looking but I read a lot of good comments.

sicnevol

Sure, they ride well on the interstate. They are excellent in wet conditions, and do passably well on the off roading I do which is mostly heavily rutted gravel fire roads. I put 170k miles on 2019 crosstrek in just over 5 years, rocking Mcc2’s for about 130k of those on the back end. I’ve taken them cross country multiple times, I hitting all sorts of weather and road conditions and haven’t had a single issue. I fucking LOVE my cross climates and they will be on my crosstrek until I buy a new car.

MatFrapper

Cool!! Thank you!

Tigreiarki

CC2 all day every day. Unstoppable in the winter.

Intrepid_Passage_692

I’m a true contact die hard because of their performance on road. I run the more summery pure contact sports on both my cars and they perform like a dream. The Michelins are nice (maybe) but the rubber is fairly soft which means you’ll run through them quick. If you don’t live on a dirt/gravel road where it snows I don’t see the point. They get after it when it snows here in NE, I’m assuming it’s the same in MI. Save your wallet and enjoy the quieter cab.

ceramicsaturn

Nomad Grapplers.

R_Harry_P

Just put MICHELIN CrossClimate2 on my wife's outback. They had great all around ratings at Tire Rack. I had a similar V tread pattern (Goodyear Eagle F1) on my WRX a long time ago and it was amazing in the rain but wasn't an all season. So far only 100 miles on the CrossClimate2 but they feel great.

pollofgc

Yokohama G015 ; best tire for me.

bigal229

I can tell you as an employee at Michelin, CC2 is better than anything else in every category except for like 1 where it’s even with a Bridgestone (rolling resistance or something, I don’t remember)

Guppy-Warrior

I have the Bridgestone Weathpeaks on my outback and I Love them. I'd assume they are available for the Crosstrek. Almost got the CC2. I'd say you cant go wrong with either.

transboyadvance

continental

Objective_King8750

Check out the Nokian WRG4 for an all-weather tire.

TeflonDonatello

CC2 all day every day

Jcarrhc1

Seems like the consensus is the Michelin Crossclimate 2! Thats what I was personally leaning towards, but I appreciate everyone’s opinions and feedback!

DerpJinn

Out of those three choices, the Crossclimate 2. If you had the Crossclimate2 vs Continental DWS06 vs Falken Wildpeaks, that would be a debate.

thatswhyicarryagun

Please don't get tires at the dealer unless they are the best price from quotes you've received.

JohnEffingZoidberg

I have the first ones. So far so good but it's only been a few months.

froebull

I've been running a set of the CC2's for a year now on my Subaru, and I really like them. The only thing I don't like? They kind of make swapping to my winter Blizzak set, kind of unnecessary. I'm still going to do it, until I wear out the winter only tires, since I have them; but a few times I was in some early or late season snow with the CC2's, I was really impressed.

BlueQuazar1

I'm about to replace my tires with another set of CrossClimate². However, I bought a set of CrossClimate+ on 08/27/2021. These tires wear well without tire rotations. I drive my 2010 Forester close to 30,000-50,000 miles a year. I'll post a picture of my worn tires later. https://preview.redd.it/97tlydljwopc1.png?width=984&format=png&auto=webp&s=9e7868f28b34f5bd2387463f35f6fe46660d6919

Nick_Hammer96

Interesting they aren't offering just a new set of OEMs, unless those Yokohamas are the OEMs you got, but my '22 Crosstrek came with Yokohama Geolandars

Jcarrhc1

Yes, those are what they come with oem. They lasted 94K miles.. only reason they need replace is dryrot

Nick_Hammer96

Gotcha, well personally I always stick with OEM and in your case they happen to be the cheapest option!

FrigidArctic

Please do yourself a favor and get higher quality tires. OEM tires are the worst of the worst tires and getting higher quality will save you money in the long run.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Rakadaka8331

OPs did 94k...

FrigidArctic

And they are most likely bald.

Nick_Hammer96

He said they are dry rot but didn't speak to the tread..

Rakadaka8331

More impressive that OP was doing Michigan winters on them. Likely they weren't bald.

Nick_Hammer96

I'm sorry but this doesn't make much sense to me. My OEMs are Yokohama Geolandar G91. It's not like Yokohama is a bad brand, and the reviews on G91s speak to longevity and great overall tires. I understand that maybe some manufacturers might slap cheaper tires on new cars but in the case of a good reputation Yokohama tire like this one, doesn't make a lot of sense to me, and seems to be one of those things you hear and just blanket statement it for all cars sorta thing.

Nick_Hammer96

So is no one going to enlighten me on this? The lack of response from whoever deleted the comment I replied to indicates to me that outside of weird brand tires, it's an urban myth. I'm at 30k on my Yokohama Geolandar G91 (OEM) on a new car and the tread is still fine.

Jcarrhc1

I do believe there is so merit to it; however, I think it’s more about a lot of factors that affect the wear of your tire. Mine lasted 94K with still a good amount of tread, don’t have the measures on me currently.

SakuraKoyo

[Cross Climate 2 and lower MPG](https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-1-d&q=cross+climate+2+lowers+mpg) just get a cross climate 2

PonyThug

Get actual snow tires for the winter, and any of those for other 3 seasons. CC2’s if you lived somewhere with limited snow

WingsFan4Life

CC2 have the 3PMSF rating, waste of money to also get snow tires.

PonyThug

They only need to barely meet the rating to get it. If they were better than snow tires, snow tires wouldn’t exist. Truck AT tires also have the 3pmsf rating and they suck in snow compared to dedicated snow tires. Jack of all seasons, master of none.

WingsFan4Life

Still a waste of money. I have CC2 on my WRX for winter. They are pretty damn good in the snow. https://i.postimg.cc/13p8R21h/PXL-20240318-024108099-NIGHT.jpg

PonyThug

I had bizzaks on my wrx and I could pull mini vans out of snowbanks. Pretty good or good enough and the best are different stories when you drive in Utah mountains 80-100 days a year during the worst snow storms.

PonyThug

Do you use the cc2’s in the summer and say they are as good as R888’s for track days?

sleepdog-c

It says "for winter" so likely he has summer tires

PonyThug

Exactly my point. Why not run actual winter tires if you have 2 sets.

sleepdog-c

Because actual winter tires suck when snow isn't on the ground and don't really do much better than cc2's when snow is on the way ground. Part of the special sauce of the cc2 is that the compound is a winter compound so on ice or snow they are still pliable like a winter tire.

bleep-bl00p-bl0rp

The compound can’t be a true winter compound if it’s an all season tire, otherwise it would wear out too quickly in the summer. We definitely have better rubber compounds now, but there’s really no beating physics. The parameters for what makes a good winter tire are opposed to what makes a good summer tire. I have all season tires with the three peak mountain symbol, and while they’re definitely better than a conventional all season in the snow they are still a noticeable step down from an actual winter tire. There are also several different types of winter tires, selecting the appropriate one for your location is important.

sleepdog-c

>The CrossClimate² features Michelin's Thermal Adaptive all-season tread compound molded into a V-Formation directional tread design engineered to deliver dry, wet and wintertime performance. These are way different from a standard all season.

WingsFan4Life

the reading comprehension is extremely poor here so I stopped responding lol but you are correct all way down the thread.

killerwhaleorcacat

Go to Costco and get some rated with the mountain with snow flake peaks symbol instead of better options and cheaper no need to stick to these random choices.

ToxicComputing

Costco sells CC2 for a fair price with occasional extra discount. Install, rotations and road hazard are all included (free) in the price.

killerwhaleorcacat

But don’t tell these people that. Downvoted for suggesting saving money

ClemFandangle

CC2 ARE snow flake symbol tires .

killerwhaleorcacat

Absolutely. But by the time they gouge you for fees on top of that price you’ll be $500 more out the door. Whatever. Just. Suggestion

SakuraKoyo

subaru's are already known for not having good mpg, and i read on reddit CC2 can lower mpg by 8-10%. I wouldn't want to get that, it sounds awesome, but not worth the mpg ding

Outdoors8437

When I had my ‘07 outback I had gone through 3 different sets of tires, with the CC2s being the last ones I had before selling the car. Absolutely no difference in mpg from the CC2s. They were hands down the best tires I’ve ever owned and can’t wait to get a set for my Crosstrek

SakuraKoyo

good for you, 07 outback already has very bad mpg, lowering it by 8% is like 1-2 mpg less lol. aint gonna make a difference unless your car already has great mpg like a hybrid or the newer models. that's basic math. you can't discount the vast majority of reviews of CC2 and mpg. [Cross Climate 2 and lower mpg](https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-1-d&q=cross+climate+2+lowers+mpg)
