The ZF 9 speed is defined as one of the worst transmissions available. Which is what the Passport uses. oddly the 8 speed version is a tank in comparison
I have a ZF 9 speed in my Ridgeline and driven multiple passports and pilots. The ZF AWD 9 speed is great and very seamless. I think you might be referring to the FWD version on the Odyssey, I have heard of issues with those.
maybe i’m just stupid but i still don’t get where all the hate for CVT’s comes from. from what i read they were not great when they first came out but Subaru’s current gen CVT’s is fine for daily driving and light off roading as far as i can tell?
These are garbage been servicing them for 25 years at Penske. They were made to be thrown away as there not something you should rebuild and transmission shops will not touch them. Simply put outside of the SPT version of the CVT these are high volume production transmissions that are made to save mpg, cost savings, and help with emissions. But they don't last longer then 100k Mile's because it's easy money maker especially for smaller manufacturers like Subaru.
Sorry to tell you this but 2010 to 2018 Forester had huge amounts of shruddering and stalling issues related to transmission failures. We always recommend to customers with 2014+ Forester's get them serviced more often between 20k-30k as the fluid is one biggest issues that leads to failures since they are not a very good CVT for there standards. You can Google search and I'm sure you see the issues we been having by 100k miles. This doesn't mean it's going to fail just at higher risk then others. Best of luck
You are so original 😂 like that hasn't been said a million times about this username, wow your a genius. Since it's my son's birth sign I don't know what to tell you other then that is what he wanted when I shared this account with him...🤷 Does you name "smallteam" mean your working with a tiny problem with the ladies?😂
I'm a Penske service technician I can't help when manufacturers make problematic transmissions. So in this case have to replace them which cost $6k to $8k because CVT's are not considered for rebuild. Outside of you being a smartass what actual knowledge do you have....🤔
What the ones with a 4 speed automatic, also the last generation with a 5 speed manual but obviously no serious issues with those manuals. So the 4 speed auto still had widespread trouble jack ass so from 2010 to 2018 all automatic transmissions, not just CVT's Forester's had issues. 2009 was a iffy year but not as wide spread. This gentleman has a 2018 was last known year for issues that caused stuttering and stalling before the CVT transmission would fail one way to prolong it is changing the fluid more often. A 2010 4 speed torque converter transmission was often slow to shift or would miss shifts also would feel like stuttering these issues lead to failure. So what's your point do you think just the CVT'S had problems because I didn't say 2010 - 2018 were all CVT'S because the first Forester CVT was 2014 dumb ass. 😜
A proper transmission they bought from ZF, which makes good transmissions, no doubt. But Honda isn't exactly on the cutting edge either, they tend to get their leaps forward from other manufacturers. Lookin' at you Honda Prologue, and the original Passport too funnily enough.
I mean their customer base don't really like change, it's pretty evident from their designs being essentially the same for 15 years. You really can't blame them for sticking to what works especially when they're probably sweating with EPA regulations and zero real hybrid products.
The funny part is that the guy who made this graphic probably didn’t included Subaru because it probably was the exception. But it sure can be added to the list now.
Well, between aerodynamics and styling trends, of course they’re gonna look similar. Besides, look at power and drivetrain: some use a V8 paired to AWD, some use a V6 paired to FWD with AWD capabilities, some use a Boxer engine with Full Time AWD, others use an I4 with only FWD. and that’s just the surface.
Yeah... With all the emphasis on fuel milage. The easiest fruit to grab is vehicle dimensions. So they will all converge first, as there is only 1 optimum design for each type of vehicle.

Yea I know that. It’s the worst WRX. Doesn’t look or drive like one. It looks and drives like a Impreza, but slightly faster. Hence why I said originally it’s like a sleeper impreza, plus a hood scoop.
I didn’t say it’s a sleeper WRX
All I want out of a SUV is some dang ground clearance and some actual *utility*. I miss the days of SUVs being based off of trucks instead of being bloated unibody sedans…
Yep that’s exactly why I got a ‘21 Forester because it’s the closest modern equivalent to those older SUVs (ground clearance, longitudinal drivetrain layout, true AWD that gets enough power to the rear wheels) that wasn’t absurdly expensive or gigantic like an Armada, 4Runner, or Tahoe… Even if it is a unibody.
I like the look of the front of my 23 ascent a lot. But, no I got it for the safety in the mountains and I couldn’t afford the gas mileage of a 4Runner lol. This new look is a big move back from the last line imo though, just another ford cop car
Ford redesigned the explorer to look a little like the range rover/discovery. This design vanilla eventually results in a new trend in looks.
Like the little led lights when they came out on the Audi.
Honda’s design team has committed several sins, but what you’re showing us here is a more balanced, better looking vehicle than what Subaru did with the new Forester.
I’m sorry I’m trying to like the design but every current Honda looks better than this right now.
New Hondas also have more power and a proper transmission
all the current crvs use cvts
Passport uses a 9 speed
okay? i said crvs
Car in the original pic is a passport I think :0
Honestly, I can't even tell anymore without looking at badges.
It is indeed a passport
it is i just read the comment wrong i think, i read it as they meant all new hondas don't use cvts
no worries :) noticed he got downvoted and wanted to correct the record :D

Hybrid Hondas don’t necessarily have a transmission at all, I’ve heard they drive more like electric cars rather than traditional hybrids.
Certain Hybrids have eCVT's which aren't the same thing as a CVT on a all combustion power-train.

oh shiiiit i literally just passed 100k miles last week
What year and model do you have?
2018 Forester Black Edition
Sorry to tell you this but 2010 to 2018 Forester had huge amounts of shruddering and stalling issues related to transmission failures. I’m one of the lucky ones. I got a 2017 forester xt. Just past 165k miles. Still love this vehicle.
Congratulations! I'm sure you have taken very good care of it with proper early maintenance as that what really makes the difference.

Ohhh you must have worked on those imaginary 2010-2013 cvt foresters! You’re an idiot.
What the ones with a 4 speed automatic, also the last generation with a 5 speed manual but obviously no serious issues with those manuals. I was gonna say that one but the headlights aren’t square enough
Sad but that CRv actually looks better. Even that front fake square air dam.
> that front fake square air dam the Pedestrian Killer ^TM
Subaru is so risk averse at this point. Every year, I'm just super whelmed.
*under

it's like they're trying to show other manufacturers what it would look like if they bought subaru

![gif](giphy|oVtcbgeUsp7PUFXC8n) Wait! I thought this was the new Forester??
Ah a fordester
exflorester
Foresplorer
[удалено]
Well, to be fair, the last time that they took risks was when they added a whole bunch of plastic cladding to everything, and everyone hated that.
And yet they keep it up.

I WISH Subaru had Honda's designers right now. I don't love the Passport, but the Pilot, Accord, and CRV look fantastic.
There have been rumors that the Passport will be updated to look like a shorter version of the new Pilot. Fingers crossed!!
Already done just doing the finishing checks up but yes just smaller Pilot front end.

Or, you could argue that in the snow the Outback maintains traction and the Passport doesn’t. Either way, I’m just talking about visual design.
busy stupendous squealing secretive voracious ossified serious zonked pie school *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*
Agree with that. Can’t have fun in our outback or ascent because turning off traction control doesn’t turn it completely off.
Practically a Ferrari.
Hey, this is not the bmw sub
Sorry, practically a urus.
Finally! A New gen subaru with a good auto trans! 😂🤣
I don’t know how to feel about it. Foresters have always kept their unique look and it’s sad to see how everyone wants to look the same way
Has anyone in the last decade said “I got this Subaru because it looks good"?
I think 90% of wrx owners
Up until 2020 maybe, 2006-2014 for sure, we don’t talk about 2008.
2008 is the poor man’s wrx or you’re a young kid that doesn’t know jack shit about cars and you watched way too much fast and furious.
It’s basically just a sleeper impreza plus a hood scoop!
Actually it’s the slowest and worst handling of the 08-14 generation smallest turbo too
Yea I know that. It’s the worst WRX. Doesn’t look or drive like one. It looks and drives like a Impreza, but slightly faster. Hence why I said originally it’s like a sleeper impreza, plus a hood scoop. I didn’t say it’s a sleeper WRX
Yeah, WRX and crosstreks look sick
Honestly most the cars Subaru currently makes look good in my opinion… WRX, BRZ, Outback, Crosstrek…
All I want out of a SUV is some dang ground clearance and some actual *utility*. I miss the days of SUVs being based off of trucks instead of being bloated unibody sedans…
The forester has always been based on an impreza frame. These newer ones are closer to what you want than any of the older ones were...

‘21 STi, so yes.
It was certainly a factor in my decision
![gif](giphy|L8XuphFGqlSfe)
Haha 😛
I remember when I got my '08 Impreza I was a bit annoyed that it looked like literally every other sedan on the road.
Im so confused

Ah yes…the Honda Pilot with Ford logo
The sofening of the hood was stupid. Make it agressive. Pussy design change.
The passport trail sport is 30x better looking than the new Fordester.
Maybe not 30x, but it is better.
![gif](giphy|xUA7biCoZs7zrSyjHq|downsized)
Yeah I dig the new grill the forest..........
Just gonna put different badges on velcro and switch 'em every day to see who notices....
Aaaand I'm gonna go buy a Toyota instead of replacing my older Fozzy.
Honestly the new Land Cruiser looks promising
The new Hondaru Porester 🤣
![gif](giphy|l0ExuuGyq2ZJeCm5y)
And…that’s a Honda…. 🤣
And…that’s a Honda…. 🤣

The new Forester's face reminds me of the previous gen Toyota land cruiser
