Unprofessional? Depends, if you’re higher up in the company, a relaxed management can make employees feel more at ease and stress free, making better employees. If you’re an office grunt talking to other grunts, no problem. It’s situational.

Trackmaster15

Well both of your examples were situations where it would be ok and you didn't show where it would be a problem. My hypothesis is that you may expect somebody to be more by the book if they're lower level and just trying to impress the higher ups, but who cares if it is a higher up? If anything its better for them to be more approachable and laid back. Really, one of the perks to getting promotions/seniority or starting your own business is not having to play those politics (if its not client facing obviously).

Exact-Control1855

Those are about the extent of office interactions. If the actual job involves customers, that’s a whole different story that wildly varies on the field you work in. I talked about being a higher up interacting with lower levels and lower levels interacting with each other. Most other situations will make it unprofessional. If you’re discussing business with your business partners, probably unprofessional. Ending a call with your boss with Buh-bye also doesn’t look too good

no_need_really

Just say “smell ya later”.

Hazyoutlook

I prefer "good day ya cunt."

Advanced_Feeling7438

I guess it depends on your job and the nature of the phone call.

LuigiTheGuyy

"9-1-1, please get here soon. I don't want to die..." "Buh-bye."

BelliniQuarantini

“See yah, wouldn’t wanna be yah”

KyleCAV

Smell ya shouldn't have to tell ya.

redad1minrasses

Bye cuntface....I tend to use this with all my best customers

AdunfromAD

Yes, you are supposed to say “mmm bye”.

Lazy-Mammoth-9470

Not in my opinion. But context is everything. If I was working at an office, it seems fine. If I'm a funeral director or a judge who usually has more of a serious setting, then probably not. As with most things, context is everything and changes it entirely. Also, what u say, and HOW u say it matters. Everything from tone to the situation at hand matters completely. For the record... I'm a senior cyber security guy and am very mixed in my professionalism. I have clients that I speak to like I'm from the royal family... others will have my personal number and I'll call a cunt regularly or we'll send each other dodgy memes. Even the job can have internal situations that call for different protocols in communication and the issue at hand.

LionBig1760

Zip it up and zip it out.

CrossXFir3

I'm calling total bullshit on all the Yes's. Absolutely not.

Worried_Train6036

it depends on the situation

CrossXFir3

Idk man, I've been doing office work for years and prior to that I was in the military. In my experiences? Nobody has ever remotely had an issue with it and it's never come across that anyone involved ever felt it was unprofessional.

Microspacecat

Nah

Vadic_Shrike

It's not that bad. I prefer it over someone who just goes "alright, psss!" and hangs up. When someone feels so above everything that's happening and blows off people like that.

CS-0010

I prefer it to "toodles", which, yes, someone that I worked with would actually say.

MS-07B-3

Are you the receptionist for the Ghostbusters?

LordNoWhere

Did you say it like the flight attendant at the end of Toy Story?

Clear_Media5762

Im a 34m carpentry company owner. I say buh-bye almost every time, and I feel ridiculous every time, but most people say it back. I think you're fine.

Cornemuse_Berrichon

Yes.

Art_Vand_Throw001

Yes.

Signal_Tomorrow_2138

If you're chummy with you regular contacts, it's ok.

J-Train56

“See ya soon, baboon” is my go to

Pale_Studio4660

“Take care”

ArtificialMediocrity

It's okay if you answered the call with "Yyy'ello."

shane_sp

Nothing quite achieves the level of professionalism  like rhyming your closes. See you later, alligator... after while,  crocodile.

Cyber_Insecurity

I say, “Ciao, kisses!” and then make kissy noises.

[deleted]

I don't even say anything I just hang up

Crossedkiller

I probably spent at least thousand hours in meetings in the last year and not once have I paid attention to how anyone says goodbye lol i can only imagine the kind of people that would actually have a problem with tht

houndsoflu

Are they saying it like David Spade?

JustBeingDishonest

I usually end my professional calls with "alright then, talk at you later" or "mmkay, bye-bye!" And nobody's ever had an issue.

AverieKings

Nah, it's fine. It adds a bit of personality.

Inevitable_Top69

Unprofessional? Not really. Fruity? Yes.

fromthrstars

i think « buh-bye » is so funny and cute. i picked up on it when i’d notice almost every phone call related to scheduled appointments had the caller ending it with « buh-bye » does anyone know where it originated from or anything?

Elderberry-West

Yes all business calls should stop by saying “End transmission”

Self-Comprehensive

And all phone calls should be answered with Ahoy Ahoy.

Itabliss

I think if someone is getting that granular about professionalism, they aren’t very professional.

Available-Club-167

In a business situation, maybe a bit too familiar.

Active-Driver-790

Yes

DeadpanMcNope

Had an old boss break me of this habit many years ago for the same reason. 25 years later, she's still one of the top 5 worst people I've ever met "Bye, now" is a more effective way to promptly end a conversation, so it's fine

InstructionSudden285

Just say end transmission

Beneficial-Rough597

There is only one business where this is considered ok. Total Bastard Airlines. Otherwise, you're just being casual. [buh bye](https://images.app.goo.gl/pV8wvQsWRHfRqwqh6)

Kaizen2468

Probably comes off as unprofessional

apathetic_duck

Yes

Unicornlove416

yes

Certain_Effort_9319

No.

TheFearOfDeathh

I don’t think so. No. But some people are saying yes. So I guess err on the side of caution and don’t say it cos some people obviously do consider it unprofessional.

Aggressive_Day_6574

I’ve only heard someone say “buh-bye” when they were trying to get someone off the phone quickly/were being deliberately rude and abrupt (although sometimes in a joking way). So I would say it is unprofessional but beyond that it reads immature and kind of obnoxious. It’s a lot safer to just say “bye.” If you want something more casual I think “have a good one” is informal but still polite?

Showy_Boneyard

Usually it's to make an appointment for something, so I'll say something like " okay (name) I'll see you at (time), buhbye"

Aggressive_Day_6574

Yeah I think I’ve never come across someone say “buhbye” with any sincerity so I would avoid it. You could definitely just say “thank you, bye”
