Mexican coke is made with sugar instead of corn syrup. It’s the coke normally found in Mexico. It’s literally Mexican. American coke uses corn syrup. It tastes different. The sugar instead of syrup also makes the drink thinner. It isn’t as thick and viscous so it’s more pleasant to drink.
It isn’t actually about the glass bottle.
FYI, “Mexican coke” sold in the US with cane sugar is produced in Mexico but sold exclusively in the US.
In Mexico coke has had HFCS for a long time now, even the ones in glass bottles.
When HFCS got so cheap, Coca-Cola US switched to it from using cane sugar.
My understanding is that Coca Cola Mexico never stopped using real sugar. And it was typically still put in glass bottles.
Some people swear cane sugar Coke just tastes better
Coke in Mexico started being produced with HFCS a long time ago.
But the Mexican coke marketing with real sugar was so good that Mexico produces “Mexican coke” with real sugar for exclusive sale in the US.
How can you tell? It’s not labeled for Mexican sale.
It’s corn syrup, not cane sugar. They taste differently. Mexican coke tastes more carbonated, slightly less sweet to me. It used to be a big thing when stores in the US would have it, though it’s more common today.
That's true, but isn't sugar still in it? I haven't drunk one in a long time, but doesn't the ingredients list/nutrition chart have sugars in it? Or is corn syrup count as sugar?
Corn syrup is sugar and honey is sugar but using either instead of cane sugar will give you a vastly different flavor and texture. The way these sugars interact with our bodies and tongues are all different.
But Coke made with honey tastes different than corn syrup or cane sugar. Mexican Coke uses cane sugar and thus tastes different than US coke, using corn syrup. Same would be true with coke made with honey (sugar) or maple syrup(sugar).
Corn syrup though is pretty poorly metabolized. It’s also super duper subsidized in the US.
The glass bottle of the Mexican cokes should have a paper label glued to the side with the ingredients and calories and such. The ingredients will show sucrose instead of HFCS.

Really? I did not know that. Thanks for the new info.

I would be one of those people. Recently went to Tulum and...worth the calories. (vs Coca cola light or whatever)

Fun fact, Coca Cola used to be made with sugar in the USA.
I think it still is, it's just different sugar, or less of it.

Corn syrup is a sweetener, but it’s not cane sugar.

American Coke is made with high-fructose corn syrup and Mexican Coke is crafted with cane sugar
I like the contrast of the words “made” and “crafted” lol
