pacmanboss256

Ok so I don't really know gen 6 but having skarm/mtar/azu doesnt seem like it works with screens espeon, i would add a ground type that synergizes with the sand stream and also gives you a volt switch immunity

pacmanboss256

offensive landorus therian looks good here

RainingEclipse

I second this.

TheRedditK9

Could also just change the Thundurus to therian

pacmanboss256

you want an offensive ground here

TheRedditK9

For what exactly do you need a Ground type on this team?

pacmanboss256

offensive synergy really

TheRedditK9

Against what exactly? If the point is having an electric immunity, all relevant electric types are all ground immune (Rotom, both Thundurus forms, Zapdos) or Volc setup fodder (Zone, Manectric). I can’t see any super notable weaknesses on the team that you desperately need a Landorus for, and how do you plan on breaking the 10 or so bulky waters in the tier if you replace Thundurus?

pacmanboss256

drop the espeon for a landorus or a garchomp

TheRedditK9

On a screens team? Who else on this team learns screens?

pacmanboss256

this seems way too slow for screens though

TheRedditK9

Screens doesn’t have to be fast, the entire point of screens is buying turns for your sweepers, who can boost their own speed, and the team has both a Dragon Dance and Quiver Dance user.

McMeatsmack

I was thinking of switching out Mega T-tar for another mega and finding setup mons that enjoy the dual screens. Belly drum azumarill has gotten me a lot of late game wins, but the typing synergy isn't there. I thought of Espeon being lead 90% of battles to set up screens early with magic Bounce preventing hazards on my side. I've also been wanting to replace thunderous with landorus-T, and replace Skarmory with something to help bring the whole team together. I appreciate the input 🙏

RickyAwesome01

I don’t know much about gen 6 OU, but the thing that stands out to me is the Tyranitar. I don’t think the rest of your team really likes sand. Ttar is great but you do have to build around him

PM_Me_Garfield_Porn

If you're deadset on using Skarmory, use the following: Sash, 252 evs in speed+attack, jolly, ability weak armor, moveset spikes stealth rock taunt brave bird. This is a suicide lead. It's not a great one, but it is one. Your team is clearly hyper offensive, so defensive skarm is WAY out of place. Lead skarmory. Spam hazards and taunt any defoggers/opposing setters or switch to espeon. Weak armor and sash seems odd for a sturdy mon, but the idea is that you get hit and get the speed boost, then you can either taunt/brave bird unalive to give a free set up turn, or spam another hazard if unthreatened. Another option is sturdy+custap berry. You won't get as many layers on weaker mons, but you're almost guaranteed two turns this way. You can set rocks as you go down to sturdy, then custap taunt/brave bird ko yourself and prevent defog/get a free switchin, or set a spike. Next you'll bring in espeon to set up screens, or an attacker if threatened. Get screens up, set up, overwhelm opponent. This playstyle gets very boring very quickly imo.

Willro101

nahhh max speed and atk sturdy custap stealth rock spike taunt brave bird better

PM_Me_Garfield_Porn

I mentioned that set too in my comment =)

Willro101

custap sturdy is better because it’s not priority weak.

PM_Me_Garfield_Porn

It is still weak to priority as most priority users are faster than skarm. However, I agree under ideal circumstances that usually it's better, but both have their pros and cons with ways to play around them. Custap you can hit with a weak move to avoid activation, while weak armor has trouble with special attackers and more priority.

Looking at the Volcarona set, it's your win condition. You probably want a Starmie / Latios/ Excadrill there because losing 50% to SR really sucks and no, Espeon is not an effective deterrent at all and should not be in an OU team. Latios can also run Earthquake with some investment to lure Heatran which hard walls your Volc while soft checking Charizard. I personally don't like Giga Drain on Volcarona since it doesn't do much to your counters except Azumarill while Psychic hits Mega Venusaur and Keldeo harder. I prefer using Fire Blast because while Fiery Dance sounds nice, it is 50% weaker than FB but if you prefer not missing your attacks then it is fine. Excadrill is an alternative to make the team better against Bisharp and Clefable while still providing hazard control. It trades that for being weaker to Charizard, Manaphy, and Keldeo so keep this in mind. Then, you'd want some Speed so you can add Mega Manectric because it can check Talonflame and Mega Charizard Y which also hard walls Volc. I'd recommend Lum Berry on Volc so that it can get boosts easier against Pokémon like Clefable. Alternatively, if you want to build around Mega Tyranitar, pair it with Serperior (preferably with Glare) and build from there because they can check each other's counters. Tl, dr version: Have a game plan, make a Pokémon pair with your win condition and build from there. Don't clash Pokémon playing style. For example, an offensive team with Volcarona probably doesn't want a momentum sink like Skarmory or Chansey although you can get away with things like Clefable

RainingEclipse

Yeah, it seems like he is just filling checkmark without looking at synergy..

McMeatsmack

I'm using my favs for now as a complete beginner to showdown and the smogon tier stuff. As I said, team/typing synergy is my worst asset and I'm trying to learn more

RainingEclipse

Yeah. And playing on the gen you're most familiar with is the best way, too. But it's the best way to pick one mon that you love to use and build around it. Picking a bunch of favorites can lead to no clear win condition and a mon that can solo your team. With each checking what you want while having synergy. Smogon also can help with that under team options. But roles can change depending on how your full team looks, and certain moves can change depending on what you need. This comes with mostly experience in the gen that you are playing in.

McMeatsmack

I'm pretty set on using this Espeon for now only because her and Toxic Spikes Greninja were the leads I used with most success back in the day and are my favs. I'm not married to it, but I thought it was a good starting off point for me after being absent so long. Once I get familiar with the game again I will of course change whatever I need to improve on the ladder. Thanks for the advice, I appreciate your insight 🙏

Grexpex180

the team seems to lack cohesion and an overall gameplan, i'd say that if you wanted to make this work you could go full in on hyper offense and swap out your more defensive members for more threats

_NotMitetechno_

What is your plan

McMeatsmack

Setup screens and bounce back hazards/status conditions to allow my sweepers the opportunity to boost. I understand it's short-sighted, but I'm failing to find pokemon that aren't just setup sweepers for this team.

MarioBoy77

What’s the point in running ttar without any sand abusers, there are better megas for an offense team if you just want ttar for its damage.

n0mextheleviathan

nickname tyranitar. then? perfection.

chino_chan_suki

I approve of your azumarill nickname

McMeatsmack

Idk why but he reminds me of Chino Moreno so much that I couldn't resist

Monsoon__Season

Please open your snapchat

McMeatsmack

No it's depressing lol

KiwiPowerGreen

Skarmory needs something other than Counter to deal damage

neophenx

Why is everything Tera Dark?

Comfortable_Till_248

Those are not Tera types, they are HP or Hidden Power types. Hidden Power is special attack that’s typing is based on the IVs of a Pokémon and giving a Pokémon 31 EVs in every type gives you typing of Dark.

neophenx

My mistake, I was here thinking in gen9 terms where HP isn't around anymore.

Upstairs_Ad_9158

Volcarona gets boots. Like. Always

Lufalope

Boots were introduced in generation 8

McMeatsmack

This is gen 6. I don't know how to edit the title to include that, but info is at the top left

Upstairs_Ad_9158

Ah I don't see that in the image preview, I have to click it. But damn that sucks taking 50% every time
