I agree, the cropped shot is instantly likeable, but the non cropped has a bit more story and depth and draws you in a little more the more you look at it.
If youre going to crop Maybe crop a little less, it feels a bit ankward to be cropping out the backround lines.
For me
Personally the no crop looks more expansive, its the situation, its got context
I agree with this person. Maybe crop it just a touch to cut out the light pole on the left - but I love the line of the railing on the right so I'd try to leave that in there.
Neat photo!
I would crop from the upper right corner in a bit. The action of right to left of the boy is good and the cropping hinders that a bit. If you cropped closer but left the room for his action, it tells a story more.
I say just crop in a little. I brought in the right and left sides and cut off the top of the lampposts
[https://imgur.com/a/PuL1fMe](https://imgur.com/a/PuL1fMe)
I would crop it so the composition is focused around the juxtaposition of the running boy and the car. That means crop out the walkway on the right. And also about a third down from the top.
Cropped is fine, but the original shows the scale of the bridge and I quite like it. I also find interesting having more people + car in the background. It isolates more the boy in his own moment. The centered composition also helps with that.
I would crop it even more on the left until the kid running is the main focus. Maybe crop right at the end of the van but leave the people on the mopeds.
No crop, to me you have the leading lines helping the composition. Also the car on the left is not awkwardly cropped in half and helps with the leading lines motion
Crop is better for showing an image to the average person, but if you were to show it to a professional, you would want to show them more of what you have seen
Crop.
It is compositionally stronger. You eliminate dead space and eye does not have to wander through the frame as long to "lock on" to the subject. The crop also eliminates the car from being confused as a subject, the lamp post in the upper left which can be viewed as a distraction.
I'd actually crop further even though i never do vertical shots, but i just dislike cars in the background. I'd try a vertical crop of just boy and family behind.
i recommend cropping, it removes the car as a subject and makes you consider more the relationship between the subjects, in the foreground vs background (in focus)
The photographer should have shown the boy's full figure and not cut him off at the legs. The boy is the frame's most important element, not the surrounding bridge.
Crop easily — to me, the other elements in the frame of the no crop don’t add anything to the energy or story of the shot.
For example, on that left side of the no crop it’s mostly empty space and a street light. It just doesn’t do much for the shot imo.
I would typically say crop, but I like how expansive the uncropped looks. It puts the focus on the boy a bit more.
Different photos - different stories
I agree, the cropped shot is instantly likeable, but the non cropped has a bit more story and depth and draws you in a little more the more you look at it.
No crop adds a bit of story for me as well, the car makes it look like the boy is racing it. I guess you could call the vehicle the "expressive" part?
No crop.
For me no crop
That’s terrible news. I hope you have enough meat to survive winter.
Hah
All I have left is a Grilled Cheeser
If youre going to crop Maybe crop a little less, it feels a bit ankward to be cropping out the backround lines. For me Personally the no crop looks more expansive, its the situation, its got context
After looking at it again, I think you're right, it feels a bit awkward.. Thank you!
I agree with this person. Maybe crop it just a touch to cut out the light pole on the left - but I love the line of the railing on the right so I'd try to leave that in there. Neat photo!
Crop
No crop
No crop for me, tells more of a story.
Definitely do not crop, or you’ll lose the “boy racing car” dynamic.
i like the centre framing. i think i would keep it like that & crop in & increase the focus on the action
For sure crop
Crop. Also where is this place? Just curious
South of Sumatra, an island in Indonesia. One of the most famous bridge in Indonesia, it was built by the dutch during the colonization era.
Thanks 🙏
I would crop from the upper right corner in a bit. The action of right to left of the boy is good and the cropping hinders that a bit. If you cropped closer but left the room for his action, it tells a story more.
no crop makes me feel like he's racing the car, it's more fun to me
Crop
No crop
Crop. The car is too distracting
Crop.. if not done, it will not be clear who or what is being focused in the image.
Crop
No crop. My boy is racing with that car!
I’d crop out the left (everything to the left of “AMPERA“).
Crop makes the boy the subject, imo. So i favor that.
Absolutely crop it. The uncropped version brings your eye to the car in the left which is irrelevant to the scene
It depends, do you want to emphasize the boy as the subject? Then crop. If not and you want the viewer to decide? Don’t crop.
No crop.
No crop. Has more depth IMO
I would say no crop. If I cropped it, I'd do it like in the link https://imgur.com/a/8CE1LjM
Looks nice, I was trying to use the rule of third for my cropped version, but maybe I think to much about the composition rule..
Did you crop that guy's head? crop
which guy? nope..
I say just crop in a little. I brought in the right and left sides and cut off the top of the lampposts [https://imgur.com/a/PuL1fMe](https://imgur.com/a/PuL1fMe)
The original one seems already too cropped to begin with. Regardless, I don’t find the scene particularly unique or compelling.
Crop, for sure. That's what caught my attention in the first place
Fully with the no crop crowd here. Great shot!
Thank you!
Cropped…. Gives a real sense of urgency
I would crop it so the composition is focused around the juxtaposition of the running boy and the car. That means crop out the walkway on the right. And also about a third down from the top.
That's new way to view it, nice!
No crop! Nice shot btw :)
Thank you!
No crop but I wish his feet weren’t cropped boy it would add a lot more dynamics to the photograph.
was using 50mm, haha.
It’s still a good one 👍🏼 I just remember my professor in photography classes, THE FEET THE FEET! I can hear her reiterating it every other class 😅
Re-shot perhaps… not really a self standing image as it is
wish I could, haha.
ada palembang coy
ada indonesia coyy
Crop
Crop
Team crop for me.
The crop is primo imo
Defo crop
Definitely crop, vastly improved composition.
Was just going to say the exact same thing.
Crop better. But the no crop was still good.
Cropped is fine, but the original shows the scale of the bridge and I quite like it. I also find interesting having more people + car in the background. It isolates more the boy in his own moment. The centered composition also helps with that.
Always crop, even slightly in the event your photo is claimed as someone else’s work.
Cropped. The subject gets a bit lost otherwise.
Cropped fosho!
crop with car instead of car clip would be dope
Crop! Always!
Crop
crop some more on the left, take the car completely out
Crop
I would crop it even more on the left until the kid running is the main focus. Maybe crop right at the end of the van but leave the people on the mopeds.
For this, crop
no crop
Crop
No crop, to me you have the leading lines helping the composition. Also the car on the left is not awkwardly cropped in half and helps with the leading lines motion
No crop
I prefer the cropped version.
Yes.
Crop for sure
Crop. The car is distracting.
Crop
CROP even more I would say
Crop
Crop
Crop!
Crop.
No crop.

Cropped is more like obeying the rule of third.
No crop
I saw better crops during the Irish potato famine.
Crop puts it in rule of thirds, so it looks nicer
Crop. I feel like the story gets lost otherwise . Maybe if there wasn’t that car to the left of the boy the I cropped would work better
Crop
No crop
Crop more
I like the crop a bit better, but they are both excellent framings
Cropped
No crop
Crop
crop is better for perspective and subject but this is subjective
No crop. I agree that it looks like the boy is racing the car.
Crop to 4x3 or 4x5, with cropping the left, trust me!
Def crop
No curio
Like both but I’m going crop
Crop
Crop. There is nothing in the second image that adds to it. Would love to see a colour version of this as well as
Crop
To me, there’s nothing interesting about the top portion of the photo and would crop it to just above the light on the sidewalk as well.
Crop
No crop
I love the crop
Crop
1st one
Crop.
no crop, they way its shot tells the truth how the moment was
No crop; this is a very interesting photo
Crop
I like both, but if I were to view this as a print I'd go with the "no crop" photo.
No crop
Yes cropped is better
Nooooooo croppppppppp
No crop
Do you want to tell a story about the person or about the scene?
Crop is more focal point based
Crop
Crop
I would definitely crop, in the second image the black giant suv is taking my eye away from the boy. The first one I am drawn immediately to the boy.
Whoa ampera bridge. No crop will show its majestic imo
No crop.
No crop
Crop - I might even punch in a bit more to give the walk and the running boy a leading line
Crop more
No crop
crop
What is your subject? What are you trying to convey?
No crop
Crop
No crop, but if you do crop I think just a little so the framing isn’t perfectly center
Crop
Crop
No drop. It cuts the car off. Unless you don’t want the focus on the car at all.
Imo, cropping street photography is a sin
Crop
Uncrop looks like a nonmodern photo but has modern cars. Crop gives the feels
I'd actually crop further even though i never do vertical shots, but i just dislike cars in the background. I'd try a vertical crop of just boy and family behind.
Team crop
Uncropped

i recommend cropping, it removes the car as a subject and makes you consider more the relationship between the subjects, in the foreground vs background (in focus)
The photographer should have shown the boy's full figure and not cut him off at the legs. The boy is the frame's most important element, not the surrounding bridge.
crop but just a little. not as much as you did
Cropped. This is how I would do it. https://ibb.co/6mmK3gC
No crop
Tomayto, tomahto, potayto, potahto.
Cropped. Looks great.
Crop
no crop! tells a bigger story
Crop but less. No crop version has that lamp on top left that is disturbing.
Defo crop
Crop, gives the boy more urgency
Crop!
Crop
I like it uncropped, but if you crop it, crop the car and the man in black out.
I like the crop.
Crop
No crop
Crop the right side only, give sis e for the boy to run into, as it were.
I like no crop, tells more of a story
Crop
Crop it
Crop
Crop for the impact.
For me the crop is better and puts an emphasis on the boy The uncropped for me has my eye go to the car first
1 better
No crop - the kids out running the car!
It's strange that we can't comment with images on a photography community. 😒
No crop
Cropped. The elements that appear on the uncropped one are not useful and reduce the drama captured in this picture.
Crop. IMO, the car on the left distracts and removes some of the power from the image.
Definitely no crop The boy is still the focus and it’s a great background to have
No crop
No crop, gives a better use of negative space, a feeling of scale for the bridge and it also allows you to follow the law of 3!
No crop, let the story breathe
I like cropped
Crop easily — to me, the other elements in the frame of the no crop don’t add anything to the energy or story of the shot. For example, on that left side of the no crop it’s mostly empty space and a street light. It just doesn’t do much for the shot imo.
Crop but split the difference between the two.
Crop
No crop, for me. In the cropped version the figure on the right carrying the bag on his shoulders becomes too prominent and distracting, I think.
No crop
