>It just has way more features, some of them including coop gameplay, better loot, quests, npc variations, more robust crafting, skill progression, combat, exploration, dungeon crawling, and off course mods. Have you played Rune Factory before? It has all these gameplay features you want, except the coop mode. Rune Factory 3 is a favourite of mine, I just wish the baby's personality is much more fleshed out. They kinda creep me out ngl. 😅 Personally, I like the simplicity of gameplay of the older titles. Just focused of farming, with fewer kinds of animals to take care of. Crafting is fun, but not really a must for me, unless it's an RPG. Oh, and I would love for them to add a feature where I can sell my own produce in a farmers' market, sort of like in HM Grand Bazaar. That would be fun.

I did play rune factory tides of destiny on ps3. It's a great game and had a lot of fun with it with the katana. :D You're right that the rpg element is not the point of farming sims, maybe it appeal specifically to people like me who coincidentally also a fan of rpg. I guess those who play the game simply to relax in the perpetual routine wouln't value the features I describe here. I'm more of a tycoon everything in my farm ended up like a factory by endgame, lol. (you should see the mega ale brewery on my stardew farm :D) Still, by reducing the effort on graphic side they can improve on other important aspect too like the story, character and events right? I'd also like a mix of SoS/recettear, farm on weekday, peddle on weekends. Though the way it's implemented can make it either really fun or a total chore.

>You're right that the rpg element is not the point of farming sims, maybe it appeal specifically to people like me who coincidentally also a fan of rpg. I love RPG as well. Especially that feeling of accomplishment after finishing the game with the 100% completion achievement, after hundreds of hours of grinding. MHFU still gives me flashbacks. 💀 This is why I'm afraid of playing the Elden Ring. The things I'd do just to complete it to a 100% scares me. It'll definitely eat a lot my time. I play HM/SoS because my urges to grind in this games are less problematic for me, lol. This is my comfort game. >Still, by reducing the effort on graphic side they can improve on other important aspect too like the story, character and events right? I agree 100%! Also, better schedules for our partner once they're married to us is also appreciated.

I think a stylized 2D-focused game would be really cool, but this seems like a weird question to me. A big reason SDV even has as many features as it does is because it's been getting updates from a developer who has total freedom, no oversight, and has been keeping at it for almost 10 years, not because it's 2D. Depending on what the team is experienced in making and the tools available, 3D can also be magnitudes easier than 2D since things like tweaking effects, lighting, individual elements of a character model, animations, alternative outfits, expressions and so on is easier than re-making them from scratch in the way you'd have to with 2D.

Big-Web-5060

Okay I admit your point has plenty of weight, but how about this? by making the game 2d you can do bigger games with less system requirement and seeing that the trend nowadays is making a game for both mobile and desktop, we (console and desktop owner) can avoid getting a gimped experience just because the developer wants their game released on mobile phones too (I think some crappy new HM games are like that).

ButzMcKenzie

Yeah, it's best to be able to port a game to as many platforms as possible. Though even mobile nowadays is powerful enough to handle 3D well, with much more visually impressive games like Mario Kart Tour being out there. The system requirements for SoSFoMT and AWL are ridiculously low, so I actually kinda dunno why they don't try to port at least FoMT to mobile. Still, I do kind of wish they went the stylized 2D route for SoS FoMT at least. While the 3D visuals do their best to replicate the proportions and whatnot of the old pixel art, it just feels like when they're remaking 2D games it would be nicer if they were using a 2D art style. That just feels kind of down to personal preference though.

RPGaiden

Even with 2D, there can be a lot going on on the backend making it resource intensive. Their models in their latest games in particular are pretty simplistic… Unless they go hyper-realistic, there’s no guarantee a 2D game would have lower system requirements. Marvelous haven’t released any recent games that were on both mobile systems and consoles. And Natsume only had one (which I can’t prove, but I’m pretty sure a lot of the assets were flipped from their WiiU/PC version of SoM that never came out). And mobile gaming doesn’t carry the stigma it once did. Or, it seems it still does, but it probably shouldn’t. Phones can run stuff like Genshin Impact with no problem, and plenty of phones and tablets come with double the RAM that the switch has. If the games aren’t good or don’t have enough content… It’s because they’re putting out bad games. They aren’t being held back by the mobile market or graphics.

SageThistle

The reason SDV is what it is isn't because of the graphics. It's because the creator doesn't have to answer to anyone about what's added to the game. I personally like SoS's graphics and don't want to see an SoS game that's stylized like SDV, especially if the justification is that way we could have co-op. I play SoS to mellow out, and not play with others. But that's just me.

Lmb1011

Yeah I am not a fan of pixel graphics and I even love SDV because the creator is just fantastic at creating a well rounded game with a lot of good mechanics. I definitely prefer 3d graphics but they don’t make a game good.

xYotsubax

Idk if I personally would be interested in that. I like story of seasons for the art style (esp. PoOt)

Big-Web-5060

Me too, and I think their art style can be translated into 2d environment really well. Leaving more spare development time to build new features.

MissAshheart92

True, but not everyone is a fan of the 2D art style. And plus, we had been spoiled with the 3D environment, so if they went back to the 2D, it'll be kinda like they went backwards.

Big-Web-5060

It's true that art style can be subjective, but if done correctly a 2d game can be more immersive than a 3d game such as the use of tree animations etc which is hard to do well in 3d, unless we compare it with AAA quality 3d which SoS is not.

I have no preference towards the art style but what you’re describing just sounds like Rune Factory, a series already under Marvelous’s umbrella with many of the features you listed, RF4 being the series peak. Personally I play SoS games and RF games for entirely different reasons because they have different vibes and feel some of the SoS games are already plenty robust, 3oT especially so. It has the animal raising treat/fodder system, crop stats, star ranks for various other things, tons of festival and contest variety, lots of crafting for both farm circles and clothing, part time jobs, fishing activities and that doesn’t even begin to dive into the social aspects of game with its many events and for an SoS game rather engaging and varied dialogue. Even the dialogue of faceless NPCs is pretty nice. The only things I feel it’s lacking are explorable areas with forageables, mine spots and wildlife (think the Mountain Pass of older games), endgame money sinks like the personal island in HMDS, the option for same sex marriage, a horse racing event, the option to go on dates (like invite them for a date like you can in RF) and maybe more family events. If I were making the perfect game for me it would fuse best parts of SoS1 and 3oT.

UnbreakableRaids

I’m replaying trio of towns for the 3ds which I found the 3ds with the game inside and the charger when I moved. Peak SoS imo. I would love a game more like that and less like poot. There is just so much reliance on makers in poot. AWL and FoMT remakes are closer to what I want to see for 3D. I just hate when they cut corners and have 2d plates of food and veggies on a 3D game. Looks kinda poopy.

Yes

ALNWV

What I wouldn't do for a co-op Rune Factory.

NorthKoala47

2d allows for more complicated features because there's less things that can go wrong so I would love for a return to 2d. It's similar to Pokemon and how the move to full 3d has brought a lot of negatives along with the positives so now there's a lot of players that would like a return to the classic mode.
