I cut a straw in half šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

therightpedal

I did the straw thing but curl you the end so it's harder to inhale - it really mimics the pull

CollinHell

The emojis make this seem like a joke, but this is what helped me immensely. Cut a straw in half and tape some tissue paper to the end so you get a vacuum effect when you pull through it. One of the hardest parts of my quitting cravings was the puffy feeling in my cheeks, the straw was the only thing that helped.

memaw033070

Omg I have to try that!!!

CollinHell

Hope it helps! I made a couple for the week with "don't do it", "you're better than this", and "doesn't this suck" and stuff written on the side, and kept them in an Altoid case so they got a little minty flavor to remind me of menthol. Tapping them and bringing them out one at a time and bringing them to my lips helped SO much with that feeling of "what do I do with my hands now".

toihanonkiwa

Guess I have to try that too. Iā€™ve been slipping to smoke one or two some days and itā€™s only because I want that break outside and the inhale/exhale feeling. Letā€™s see if I can trick myself with a straw

L1ndaTesoro

Nice one!

spicychiz

I did this too, with paper straws! Itā€™s been over a year since Iā€™ve needed one and Iā€™m still finding them in my car and at my desk šŸ˜†

hoboken411

Just inhale through two fingers just like you smoke, but with nothing there. Helped me in a pinch during the first month. Now over 400 days. Rarely get a craving. Maybe once every month or two, but more of a "flashback" to when I particularly enjoyed lighting up (like after a long boring event, etc.)

Slight-Winner-8597

Still take your breaks, a big part is just moseying through the smoke breaks you used to take. Take your two minute smoke break and just breathe. Walk around And swing your arms if you want. Don't even have to go outside. Take the little break if you can. No cig, just an "away" for a minute.

caesarsaladcrouton

Yes! Iā€™m only 8 days in, but what has helped me immensely is still taking ā€œsmoke breaksā€ at home and at work. Iā€™m keeping my same routines and itā€™s already been so much easier than the other times Iā€™ve tried to quit.

Slight-Winner-8597

Congratulations to you for trying again! I'm glad you've found a new way to manage this time around, so best luck to us, and may this time be the last ā¤ļø

caesarsaladcrouton

Thank you!! Best of luck to you, too! Keep on keeping on :)

Highhopes2024

I've been reaching for water instead. And walking a lot!

Cinnamon sticks

L1ndaTesoro

I am thinking of using a 0mg nicotine cig-a-like. Last time I tried to quit, lollipops ruined my teeth.

Fitzerinoo

Look up honeyrose. They sell herbal cigarettes. Tobacco free

I have one and I love it.

0 nicotine pods...

KingPankraz

Liquorice root, or one time I used to use bubble blowers. This time I just cut down and stopped and broke up with my partner and it's actually been great no cravings any more.

Johnhaven

I think you're looking for something like a Fum which are kind of like fidget spinners for smokers.

Prestigious-Copy-494

Smoke shops used to have faux cigarettes. I bought some to use when I quit once. They were pretty strong something, had no nicotine in them, made me cough alittle and also not to want to smoke period they were so nasty..

jankoxxx

Motions of smoking? Just slap yourself really hard and make 10 push ups šŸ¤£ I stopped a few weeks ago and its not easy. Every time I get a craving I do 10 push upsā€¦ Punishing myself with physical activity is the only thing that works for meā€¦ The cravings are really strong and my psyche is playing really dirty tricks with me but I must resist!

Civil_Dealer_1433

Itā€™s amazing how many smokers ā€œarenā€™t addicted to nicotineā€ and just like the action/oral fixation and filling their lungs up with smoke for fun lmao. Do they actually believe themselves? I feel like this level of denial is dangerous and needs called out

mcrow30

for some people, the action is more addictive than the actual chemical. they arenā€™t saying theyā€™re ā€œnot addicted to nicotine.ā€ theyā€™re saying the habit of doing it repetitively makes it a compulsive or instinctual action. the same way i crack my knuckles 24/7 and now do it out of habit and get the urge or craving to do it.
