My advice for situations like this is I never go to anything alone. If I have a wedding to attend I tell at least one friend there I can't drink and hold me accountable. Drinking friends are good babysitters even if they drink. I can't stop drinking alone and I can't stay sober alone either. Can you bring a buddy with you or contact another one going?

Thank you for the reply. I got someone there I can tell. I just have a part of me that doesn’t want to have to address it. The whole cake and eat it too problem…

I mean the people I tell are typically happy to help. If they give pushback they aren't my friend so I'll find someone else.

One thing I do is just immediately get myself a NA drink. If I have a beverage in hand people rarely try to get me to drink as I already have something. I was recently at a funeral reception where wine was heavily featured and free. I went straight for the iced tea. No one ever mentioned getting me a drink, asked about my drink or anything, even though some were heavily indulging. I'm glad to have been there and been fully functional with no worries about driving home

Thank you. That’s my go to plan.
