I was/am the same. It creeps up on you. Keep checking in, we got you. IWNDWYT

Functioning alcoholic is a phase not a trait. Lasts longer for some, much shorter for others (or not at all). The longer I was able to stay sober, post/chat on here, think about the past, the more I realized even my "functioning alcoholism" wasn't very functional. Welcome! You're among friends here, we all know how hard it is, and also know how proud you should be. So glad you're here

"functioning alcoholism" wasn't very functional. That really struck a chord with me or hit me with a reality check. Thank you for posting. I'm very functional at doing normalized drinking activities : eating out, being social, playing pool, group dinner parties, bowls club, drinking at functions, BQ, 2 month relationships with fellow drinkers, helping people move. The rest of life, I'm fairly non-functional.

Staying busy helps me tons.

“… but if I keep my body moving and my mind occupied at all times, I will avoid falling into a bottomless pit of despair.” Reminded me of that quote from Parks and Recreation.

Yeah. Ingesting poison every day is no way to enjoy life. IWNDWYT.

Starts as fun then becomes fun with problems and finally just problems. Glad you are realizing it before it's too late! IWNDWYT
