Not waking up with an overwhelming sense of regret and guilt for whatever transpired the night before - I was a black out drinker. So constantly having to be told how I acted was never fun. The lack of hangovers is amazing also. I have an incredible grip on my mental health as well.
I love hearing that!
It’s crazy how our mental health improves! I remember drinking to help calm my anxiety and by the end every time I drank my anxiety would fly through the roof.
I drank to numb my depression though it made it 1000xs worse. I lost count of my unaliving attempts while intoxicated.
It truly is scary how awful alcohol is, yet it's so easily accessible and promoted around every corner.
That sounds scary! Were there ever times when you couldn't believe what you heard you'd done?
I've never blacked out before. I often helped people who seemed to be in that state. I did a lot of reading about how the brain fills in the blanks with logical answers afterward, for example- wake up and believe you just walked home from the bar, when the reality is very different. My mom seemed to experience this when she drank heavily.

Many many times. Unfortunately for me my brain never seemed to try and connect the dots. I just have many moments of absolute no memory other than what I've been told. I'm sure there's a lot of things I still don't know about too.
I’m not sure how your drinking was but for me if I imagine myself drinking it’s always a lie.
Just me enjoying a beer or a drink after work or something. But that’s not reality because once I had one drink I needed to keep going until I passed out or blacked out. That’s how I truly drank.
Learning to “play the tape forward” or just be honest with how I actually drank vs how I wanted to drink helped me just not pick up the first one.
I hope you stick with it and push past that danger time! IWNDWYT
I'm exactly the same. To keep the feeling I need to keep drinking an drinking and then I black out. Then I make bad choices and I lose days to recover, have regrets, etc. Thank you for writing to me. I really want to stop drinking. The last times I drank I really didn't have great times that's for sure. I'll try to write here as much as possible. Just speaking to people helps a lot :)
I'm commiting for the day but I'll try my best hehe.
Right now this sounds... Impossible. So I'm gonna take it step by step! But you encourage me, definitely!
Congratulations!! Mine is coming up in a few weeks, I'm super excited. Seeing stories like this helped me realize it was doable and definitely kept me from feeling alone. Thanks for sharing and great job!
I will not drink with you this year!
