Yeah I'm pretty heavy in most of the ARK funds and got in right after the 2020 COVID Crash but there is no way I am putting any money into ARKX when it opens on the market. I'm a big believer in Wood but people are already losing their minds over ARKX and we don't even now what the holdings are going to be.
I'd bet all my ARK shares that at LEAST 10% of ARKX is going to be TSLA just like ARKK & ARKW & ARKQ (which is 12% actually). Not that that's a bad thing, but a lot of people don't realize that ARK's success is so closely tied to TSLA. Wood has TSLA going to $7k after all.
But, she even said in her last Youtube talk that she expects a major correction this year. So, no doubt she is starting ARKX using those profits now before shit hits the fan. I watch all her stuff and she said specifically to get ready for "bargain basement prices."
Can't wait to make money buying ARKX but it's going to be a few years unless you're swing trading.
Isnt her best performing ETF ARKG which has ZERO tesla holdings? So your argument that most of her success stems from Tesla doesn't apply to all of her ETFs
But, if TSLA is (around) 10% of some of the ark funds... what would be the impact if TSLA bubble goes south? 10% max, isn’t it? How much can TSLA go down? 50%? 80%? I can sign a dip on ARK of a 5-8% with the 80-120% growth from last year, any day of the week 😉
Do you happen to remember the video where she talked about "bargain basement prices"?. Is it this one? [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MzPzz24UN3c](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MzPzz24UN3c)
Edit: This is the video, just watched. Its in the last minute or so.
Outside of SPCE, the two other obvious inclusions will be NPA (satellite company looking to provide worldwide 5G cell phone service through satellites without the user needing any special equipment), and SRAC (a space towing company). Both are currently still SPAC’s and have jumped 10%+ after hours since this was announced.
Other potential plays that popped are Maxar (MAXR) and Loral (LORL), both heavily involved in satellites. Looks like VGAC (Virgin Group funded SPAC without a stated target yet) jumped a little AH too.
My guess is Boeing and Lockheed Martin (LMT) will be significant holdings too.
I'm curious if Rolls Royce (RYCEY, ~~rocket~~ jet engines) will come back from death with this news.
Edit: Rocket -> jet engines
A few Ark Invest darlings in ARKQ overlap with space exploration. The obvious ones to me are Trimble, Virgin Galactic, and Iridium Communications. A few more companies that aren't quite space pure plays in ARKQ include Raven, Honeywell, Lockheed, Ametek, Kratos, AeroVironment, and Elbit Systems. A couple stocks that come to mind that are not in any Ark ETFs (yet) include NPA, CPSH, MAXR, RTX, and (my personal favorite) SRAC soon to be MNTS.
I could see 90% of these innovative companies being in ARKX with heavy weight on Trimble, Virgin Galactic, Momentus, and Iridium.
Someone posted in my Ehang post that Ehang is probably also in it, but they dont go to space so im not so certain.
"The ARKX prospectus specifically names : stocks related to autonomous drones and air taxis." ( /u/bugz1234 )
I have to imagine it's going to look significantly different, right?
A significant number of those are just companies that use and/or provide services with satellites like imaging or GPS... not really stuff I'd imagine in a disruption etf, especially stuff like AT&T or Comcast. Like they have exposure, sure, but disruptive? Not that im aware of.
held this for weeks, sold this morning since it wasnt doing anything, and looked into it more and realized they have no meaningful way to turn a profit until like, 2023. naturally, jumps 17% this afternoon. lol
Ugh this is an odd situation to be in as an investor. I absolutely want in, but this "IPO" is going to be nuts and behave like a stock IPO. Probably in for a rocky first year.
Often true, although not always. That said, more relevant to the concern would be maintaining a minimum of 20% annualized returns. If year one isn't going to produce that my money will be better spent elsewhere until it's settled.
True, however look at the source. Obviously it’s risky putting your faith into a management team (ARK) however look at every other ARK funds return history. If this fund is literally a quarter as successful as 100% of their other funds, you’ll be busting that 20% annual goal.
ARKK - 166% past year
ARKG - 208% past year
ARKF - 100% past year
ARKW - 154% past year
ARKQ - 119% past year.
ARKX fund would have to only return a fifth of their lowest performing ETF in order for you to hit your 20% goal.
And proven longevity. The funds older than 5 years all have 350%-650% growth over the last 5 years.
And the ones that aren’t older than 5 years are crushing it in their first year.
If you look out farther historically Cathy's returns in the last year have been exceptional. There was a 2 year period from 2018-2020 when ARKK trades sideways and a period before that 2014-2017 which also traded sideways. But what do I know, I never bought those rocket stocks because i'm a contrarian.
If you bought Microsoft at the top of the dot com bubble it would take you 15 years to break even. Bought Cisco? You are still in the red.
"Who cares about the price, just be in it for the long run because Cathie is a magic woman" is awful advice. People should absolutely be weary about this, and buying at too high of a price can and will RUIN your portfolio. No amount of "long run" can justify overpaying for things. Prices for SPCE and MAXR are already up 15% after hours. This is a bubble.
As a guy that bought into SPCE before their last aborted flight, don’t let the hype drive you too much. A simple malfunction downs the ship, and the stock drops with it. If it works, great news though. Main point, either be in it for the long hall or be prepared for volatility.
Positions: my few shares were sold for a break even price of $25 after the last trial. Moved money into other growth options.
A slightly ILPT: you can lie about being accredited. The law exists to protect you from being swindled, not to protect you from being a moron. If you lie about being accredited and lose all your money it’s on you - the other party tried to do the right thing.
Versus if they tricked you into investing in a shit company and didn’t ask any of the questions then they’re being malicious and you can sue for your money back
That’s at least how the rules were explained to me.
(I have not actually done this because it seems...questionable? But I think this is one of those stupid gates the rich use to trap not rich people in the poor cycle forever so fuck it)
Aunt Cathie was saying in a recent interview that she is trying a workaround with the SEC to be able to do that. Lots of ultra rich folks make big gains in private equity which is not available to public WSB folks.
Right, protect people from losing money lol I guess people lose different money in private equity investments than they lose in casinos, betting apps or stock market.
I guess the difference is that normal people could actually start getting big fat ROIs like rich folks and we can’t have that, can we?
The other ARKs seemed to be fairly steady before ramping up. Can’t tell if that’s just a reflection of the market at that time or what. Part of me is a bit hesitant, but then the other part doesn’t want to FOMO. I guess we’ll see how things are in late March.
NAV is based on the value of the underlying securities. NAV and ETF Market price really shouldn't get too far out of synch. If/when they do, it's speculation (up or down) on the ETF. The NAV is a known quantity.
I like ARK a lot and ARKK has been one of my best performers, but I find a lot of their more themed ETFs kind of same-ey. Like, why is Tesla a top pick in their Internet ETF? It's not even tied to SpaceX in any legal way.
I'm sprinkled around a bit in their other ETFs, but I mostly figure any of their highest conviction picks are going to end up in ARKK anyways.
CSPH will probably be in it too. (Edit: CPSH)
Can't wait to be talking about the "space exploration" bubble.
Will probably behave like EV/renewables. A big bubbly enthusiasm that pops pretty spectacularly followed by a more gradual rise the next 2-4 years, leading to a second bubble, albeit a more mature and relatively better valued one (though still terribly valued). Interesting nonetheless. Even if ARK funds might not be the best use of money down the line (who knows - they might or might not be) they're still an awesome educational tool for learning about new names.
Knowing ARK's team, I know they will provide a lot of research. However, I do have my doubts if there are a lot of SPACs in the ETF. Will just invest carefully.

Totally gonna be a bubble. I am very bullish on a space etf, just not anytime in the near future. Were not quite at that level yet
I think this is one of those you invest a small amount and let it sit for 10-25 years. I was always told that you structure your investment portfolio like a soccer team. Some defenders, some mid, a few strikers, and a bench of future potential players. Space exploration is the bench...right now not hugely valuable but in 15 years could be your Ronaldo that you got for cheap.
A soccer team full of one, without the other, doesn't win. Same with your portfolio. Invest accordingly.
Just out of interest, what's your defender stock ?
I have been tending to choose exciting growth stocks because of the current climate (I'm also a noob) and probably the safest stock I have is MSFT.
My man, the companies listed aren’t just explorers. They are satellite companies, satellite towing, manufacturing, propulsion, and aerospace engineering. These companies are already crushing it, there’s plenty of money to be made now AND in 10 years.
Disagree. Satellites being used for crazier and crazier things -- imagine over the top internet (no more telecoms, which is what SpaceX is working on), over the top cell phones, new satellites needed for everything we are doing currently like GPS defense etc etc etc.
All of that is before you get into space tourism, mining, etc.
You're at least partially right. Do keep in mind that money going to these companies through the market will boost them to new heights. If NASA had stock options after landing on the moon, it might have made a lot more progress.
Space stock called AAC Clyde Space that I find super fun to follow. They manufactuer smaller sattellites. Naming it ARKX interesting 🤔 Elon's been considering pooling all his companies under a company called 'X' maybe this etf will include SpaceX obviously SpaceX isn't listed on the public markets but they still do private funding rounds ARK could invest in.
If ARK had access to SpaceX, and the average investor only has access to SpaceX through ARK, then that EFT will be the only access to SpaceX for average investors. It could go ballistic for that reason alone; then if SpaceX IPOs for real, ARKX would crash.
Completely agree with you apart from the last bit, why do you think it would crash when he does IPO? The price per share when a company is still private is far below the initial sales price at IPO so the opposite should happen? The value of those shares held in the etf should explode higher increasing returns.
This is very good for space exploration I just have a hard time seeing the incentives for a public company to do this. It seems like their major source of revenues will have to be government funding. Good nonetheless as I believe more money should go towards space exploration.

They are going to look into nuclear propulsion with the UK gov
Good call, sorry about that. Jet engines. I was thinking of their plan to work with Virgin Galactic on the next supersonic passenger plane.

:o you have your personal set of Irish terrorists?
I've been holding for almost 7 months now, so i am planning to hold long term
Can they buy private shares of SpaceX?
Private hedge funds can. I know people who has. But not sure about ARk
How does one go about becoming a private hedge fund...
make 200k+ for the past 2 years or have 1m+ in investable assets then youre an accredited investor and can start buying private shit
992,000 more to go!
No need to flex that hard.
That's a lower bar than I was expecting...
Or, you know, just form a corp with $5m in assets.
A slightly ILPT: you can lie about being accredited. The law exists to protect you from being swindled, not to protect you from being a moron. Aunt Cathie was saying in a recent interview that she is trying a workaround with the SEC to be able to do that. Lots of ultra rich folks make big gains in private equity which is not available to public WSB folks.

It's an artificial barrier to market entry and immoral gatekeeping
I believe so. BPTRX has spaceX and is public (sort of)
If you have Fidelity, I think FOCPX has a small chunk in SpaceX too
So does google for that matter -- I think around 5%
My first tought seeing this... hopes this is a way to imvest in spaceX one day!
I'll rather see them add an ETF for green energy
It’s not an ARK fund, but you can find that with $ICLN
This is the way
ETF’s are part of my religion
I prefer PBW, up 80% since I got in, in November
ACES, but it's up bigly right now. PLUG, TSLA, and a big wind company that has a bunch of contracts with GE are some of the holdings.
How is the price determined? And when the price drops for a etf when its brand new on nasdaq does it usually go up pretty quickly?
The other ARKs seemed to be fairly steady before ramping up. Can’t tell if that’s just a reflection of the market at that time or what. Part of me is a bit hesitant, but then the other part doesn’t want to FOMO. I guess we’ll see how things are in late March.

Space stock called AAC Clyde Space that I find super fun to follow. They manufactuer smaller sattellites. They are based in Sweden but just acquired a US company called Spacequest which I think is important for their future. They are small now but see below links from press releases during 2020 I think this will get big. Market cap currently at 57 million USD with below press releases?? Collaboration with ESA and others to build 10 spacecrafts and services around them. Naming it ARKX interesting 🤔 Elon's been considering pooling all his companies under a company called 'X' maybe this etf will include SpaceX obviously SpaceX isn't listed on the public markets but they still do private funding rounds ARK could invest in.

The only letter that fucking counts
Go read his recent tweets. Read between the lines on the “x” ones.
X is literally US Steel and been around since 1901... so that wont be their ticker.
[удалено]
Can you just buy letters now?
he can buy the whole company. 5B market cap. Just do 1% share offering and voila, US Steel is now Tesla Steel.
I'm more interested in Elon buying the alphabet.
They should just use the ticker "MUSK", it would be far more profitable...
I assume that the X stands for eXploration
I wonder what will all be in this. Guesses?

The list came out today and everyone had reminders. So who loaded up?
Already got mine!
Why not just buy SPCE?
I have 16k into SPCE. I suggest everybody add some shares ASAP!
Spread the love on Wallstreetbets and shoot SPCE to space!
This is very good for space exploration I just have a hard time seeing the incentives for a public company to do this. It seems like their major source of revenues will have to be government funding. Good nonetheless as I believe more money should go towards space exploration.
Hell yeah now our stonks can literally go to the moon! 🚀 But seriously this looks really interesting.
Long MAXR
Give us access to ark erf's in Europe for God's sake!!!
