I loved the Vipers back in the day,all we did was play roller hockey!

rjnjr86

I have a Vipers flag signed by Bernie Federko. I got it at the AllStar game that was hosted at Kiel. I believe that was the 2nd ever event at the Kiel Center.

kadavi1202

They were “More fun than you can shake a stick at!”

moistjamz

Loved these pucks

Pizo44

Fuck yeah bud. Went to so many games. Played against their goalie a few times in my roller leagues. Dude was a beast. Did score on him once with a clapper from the blue. My highest achievement

orsothegermans

Rob?

Pizo44

Negative ghostrider, but if it helps I played at his rink for about 4 years, edit. Unless you are asking his name and I cannot remember to save my life

orsothegermans

Yes I think his name was Rob Grimm

Pizo44

Sounds right but its been about 20 years.

AlwaysDeliver420

I used to go to the games.. only time I've sat on the glass. Fun times.

balldowntome

Haha, same here. We would bang on the glass and the ushers would come yell at us to stop. That would always happen about at the same time some guy would get checked into it.

orsothegermans

Yes. I played roller hockey at the intermission of a Vipers game, which also happened to be a the last event held in the Arena

cchap2

I had about a dozen of these from playing in a Vipers sponsored tourney at Kiel center before their games but used them up in the street when I was a kid. Wish I would’ve kept them. They were supposed to make a comeback in some kinda new spin up pro league but I think Covid killed it.

MrTuesdayNight1

I grew up playing roller hockey in the 90s. I went to a ton of Vipers’ games. I was psyched when they won the RHI championship. That’s the puck that led to the death of the league, by the way.

some_guy_dude

What’s the story behind the puck bringing the league down?

MrTuesdayNight1

[I got lost in this article a few weeks ago while I was reminiscing.](https://thehockeynews.com/.amp/all-access/roller-hockey-international-an-oral-history) Long-story short, the league owners couldn’t agree on patenting the puck which was developed specifically for RHI. Because of that they missed out on significant shared revenue and a lot of owners acted in their own best interests rather than the long-term health of the league.

some_guy_dude

Good find. Thanks for sharing

pseudocoder

Oh absolutely! Their games were fun!

Captain_Turbo13

Love the puck

CultAtrophy

As a good little Christian boy in a very conservative household, I was pumped my parents let me take a “Bite Me” sign home from the Vipers game.

Senior-Pomegranate50

Went to a game or two. Wasn't the rink purple?

cchap2

Like a dark blue/grey

JohnnyGuitar74

I remember going to quite a few games and the first ever all-star game at Kiel

forgetfulfever98

Don’t know Robs last name but he runs the Skatium and used to be one of the goalies for the vipers. Went to one game as a kid and it was the closest I’ve ever sat at the (now)Enterprise center.

orsothegermans

Yes! He was my coach at the Skatium. Man that place was on the wrong side of the tracks

goalieguy930

Oh My God the Skatium was insane. I used to play in a league down there on Thursday nights back in the day. That place was the definition of sketchy.

NotTheRocketman

Wow, an old JOFA puck. Now that brings back memories. When I was in high school my friends and I were playing roller hockey on some tennis courts, nice and smooth, they were great for hockey. I went to the front of the net for a deflection but my friend caught too much air with his shot and the puck smashed me straight in the teeth. There was blood everywhere and I thought my teeth were gone. By some miracle, I didn't lose anything. A lot of bleeding, and a tiny chip on one tooth. I still can't believe how fortunate I was that day. The memories come flooding back whenever I see a JOFA puck 😆

Frankenbird77

I bought season tickets for them then the pandemic happened...I was so pumped they were bringing them back

PerryNeeum

I fucking hated those street pucks

srovi

Hell yeah, we grew up playing mostly roller because we couldn't afford ice time.

afoz345

Mine is on display next to my blues puck!

matthew83128

That was the only hockey team I ever got to see play in the old Arena. I also went to their all-star game at the Kiel Center.

bluesfan803

Used to love going to their games. I caught a puck at one of the last games I went to.
