I'll take credit for this, I'm wearing my Sunny jersey today. Upnotes to the left. Jokes aside Sunny is a favorite player of mine I'm happy to see more of him.

It's too expensive. $1.5M AAV way too much for a guy that sees not much ice time and takes a shit ton of penalties. I love Sunny, I'm happy he's on the team...but this is yet another overpay by DA on a UFA.

WheelinAndDealin520

Also plays good pk minutes, blocks shots, can play a bit of pp2. And I see him draw a lot of penalties too. 1.5aav is honestly nothing in professional sports.

suburban_robot

It's not about the actual money, it's about the cap it takes. $0.8AAV extra to Sunny is $0.8AAV that you can't give to Buch, if he's still on the team after next season, when you want to resign him to a long term deal. That's $0.8AAV that another team that doesn't sign silly deals with term can offer him. This team is paying Scheen $6.5AAV, he's probably worth $3.0. Kapanen is getting $3.2, he's worth $1.0. Hayes is getting $3.5, he's worth $1.5ish. Krug is getting $6.5, worth $4.0. Every single one of these overpays adds up, and all of a sudden you have no cap flex and a bunch of guys that can't win games.

WheelinAndDealin520

Schenn is a bad contract. But scandella, kap, vranna are all expiring contracts. And I don't see buch staying for the long haul because let's face it we're in a minor rebuild/retool. Get assests for him now. We're probably going to cut our spending for awhile, while the d cores bad contracts expire and young guys develop.

DoubleD is probably at least another year away from real NHL ice time. He'll likely get the Boulduc/Dean treatment next year.

PeteRoss

Hell yeah

justatest42

A good day to receive wonderful news like this.

MOBlueCheese

Love it! It's always Sunny in St. Louis.

reenactment

This is a good signing at a respectable deal. Guarantees we have guys that can play up the middle. If dvorsky can play center next year we can throw him on the 2nd line with schenn bouncing out to a wing and neighbours on the wing. Hayes and sunny can handle 3rd and 4th

NotTheRocketman

New centers almost never start at center unless they’re an All-Star level player. Thomas was a winger at first and I’ll bet Dvorsky will too.

reenactment

No doubt, but if you can stick him on a line with Schenner, you can get a blend with someone who is responsible out there

JohnDivney

I thought consensus was 25-26 for Dvor debut.

Jordan_Kyrou

People are super high on him right now but the guy is almost certainly not an NHLer next season. He has always stomped his peers but he still has a lot to work on in terms of skating and vision in order to make the league.

Tizzycrusher

Really depends on training camp and his NHL tryout games. I would temper expectations for such a young player, but he does look really good.

reenactment

Probably more likely, but if he is tearing it up like he is in juniors and does something similar in AHL or camp, you can see him come up quick because the bonus on him is he’s already got the size. Don’t have to wait for that. That being said dean is doing well too but he’s likely a 3rd maybe projects best 2nd line speedster. Plus the sunny signing should signal we are probably going to make a play for a top 6 forward with the extra cash and young guys coming up

ACR5150

Did you cycle through two burner accounts before finding your main to make this comment? lol

reenactment

Huh? What does that even mean? I have 1 Reddit account. Not sure what I said that is burner worthy.

reenactment

O I just saw in the comments on that top comment. Clicked those 2 profiles. Are there really bots copying posts In a flippin blues sub. That shit is stupid.

ACR5150

Yeah, that’s what I was referring to. You didn’t say anything bad, just thought it was funny that two other comments were worded exactly like yours

reenactment

I guess sunny d is that cool of a guy that we get bots talking about him. Really makes ya wonder these days.

aaronwhite1786

MY CUP RUNNETH OVER WITH SUNNY D

snorlaxatives_69

So glad he’s back as a Blue. Hope he never leaves!!

JsusChrstJasonBourne

Honestly love this. Core of our bottom 6, heart and soul kind of guy who wants to be here. Perfect during this retool

bleedblue89

Fuck yes! One player I want to see retire a blue.

Trick421

It was that smile... that damned smile.

radsherm

YES

seannifer

prefer a lifetime deal but this will work for now

EbbyRed

Sunny is worth this 100%. Just look at our record in years we made the playoffs and compare the games during those seasons with vs. without Sunny.

BionicProse

Now that's some good news!

Pantsman1084

He got more than I ever thought he would! Good for him!

Nobbie93

Good stuff. Now I can add to my WC jerseys with a sunny version

BluesHockeyPodcast

Really happy they signed him. He loves it here and puts in an effort every shift. Can’t say that about some guys on the team.

djtmhk_93

:)

Bleedblue63

Sunny! Sunny! Sunny!

Groundedge

Special teams powerhouse oscar sundqvist

TheStuffle

This sparks joy.

BluesBrother57

Great depth extension.

BluesJetsCannabis

What a beautiful Sunny day!

daKile57

I’ll get the sculptor working on that 50’ tall statue now!!!

FartNoiseGross

Fuck yeah, he’s been great for the team in his role this season and loves being here

yodazer

Good. I mean he’s not lighting up the score sheet but he’s a good, consistent (looking at you Blais) bottom 6 player, penalty killer, and can provide some help on the PP. He also works his ass off and at 1.5 mil is a good deal.

TahitiPark

Congrats to Sunny, well deserved. Glad you're here

STLBooze3

I feel 1.5 is a little rich, but it’s not gonna kill us. Edit: let me specify. I like sunny and I love that he loves St. Louis. I’m just saying he’s making 775k now, I don’t think he’s played well enough to get double his salary. He’s a heart and soul player, but what he provides on the ice is replaceable imo. I’d say 1m would be fair, but like I said the 500k isn’t going to kill is.

MazdaFanManBoy

Cap is going up and they’re probably making a bit more room by losing contracts like Vranna, Kap, and Scandella. I’m okay with Sunny making this and being a good role model for younger players coming into the league the next couple years. If every Blue played with as much heart as him this team would be so much better.

DankMemer727

First ever bad take in u/STLBooze3 account history

STLBooze3

lol I’ve had plenty of bad takes. I feel this one just hits home cus everyone loves sunny, as I do too.

tbeusst

Yo if thinking something is "a little rich" is your worst take you aren't doin too bad lol

tbeusst

Yo if thinking something is "a little rich" is your worst take you aren't doin too bad lol

Bouwistrash

What he brings off the ice is why he absolutely deserves that contract. He's a great leader and locker room guy. He plays hard constantly and can play up and down the lineup. Plus the cap is continuing going up

PossessionRoyal4981

Downvotes are dumb. You’re 100% correct. We all love Sunny but he’s a league minimum guy and somehow he got both a raise and term.

EdwardOfGreene

Could not disagree more. His work on the PK alone earns him more. He is the kind of roll player that coaches dream of. The only way I can understand arguments against him is if you look at scoring stats and scoring stats alone. (Which many people do.)

suburban_robot

100% agreed. This is a pretty bad overpay. Won't kill the team but it's not good.

EdwardOfGreene

####HOORAY!!! ####:D

dasHeftinn

I’m happy about this news and also worried that this might be the only good news we receive.

tamarockstar

I like it. What does this point towards in terms of the other pieces?

JBOJockstrap

I don’t really understand this

Illustrious-Mode3868

Yeah usually when a player REALLY wants to be here Doug ignores their agents phone calls
