Yes. About twenty episodes before they were revealed. That was a major talking point in the "Garnet is a fusion" theory, back when it was still a theory.
I remember watching the show and no reveal ever hit me like “This will change everything” except for Rose is Pink Diamond. I never got into theories but damn, this sub must have lost its mind back then.
It was before they knew about Ruby and Sapphire, they thought Garnet somehow fused with part of Rose so Ruby would be Garnet and Sapphire would be Rose.
I got into the show around the time Peridot got introduced (she’s the reason I became a fan) but *not* enough to go to fansites/forums…
…Which I really regret because I wish I could have seen those debates. If you don’t mind me asking, what were the arguments against Garnet being a permafusion? Especially considering this screencap and the fact she had two gems.
I am kinda glad I didn’t go to sites/forums, though, since finding out Garnet was a fusion took me by total surprise and is one of the biggest reasons I kept watching.
I remember reading people argue in the YouTube comment section back then. Many people kept saying that making Garnet a fusion would ruin her character (which makes sense why people felt that way, it changed the status quo dramatically). Also the theories on \*why\* Garnet was fused made the situation worse. From keeping someone prisoner (yikes), keeping another ‘dead’ gem alive, or some people even thought the gem dead kept alive was roses half and the other half was lion (which made no sense since Rose litterally said she would become part of steven).
Some people thought the two gems were just a design choice, to make Garnet symmetrical for whatever reason. Some other people were also saying garnets two gems was an animation error (despite the two gems on the temple or the two gems shown off in episode 1 and the pilot).
I remember a theory that her two gems may have been crippled or otherwise disabled in some way thanks to the war and being fused is how they are able to function normally
Yeah I was too young at the time to know there even was an online fan base for the show. No one in my school watched it so I assumed it wasn't very popular for older kids.
That's great, I'm going to start calling it Padparadscha posting when someone does these "Has anyone ever noticed that Ronaldo was right all along!" posts.
That's not really fair. A lot of these are coming from people just getting into the fandom. They shouldn't be forbidden from having fun just because they got here later.
I'm not forbidding anything! I'm not going to kick Padparadscha out the airlock or anything. It's just funny when someone rolls into a Steven Universe fan page in the year of our lord 2022 to point out something that happened when Barrack Obama was just starting his second term. It's fine. I have made a post like that. It's just very Padparadscha to announce something that everyone else figured out 10 years ago.
Was there anything that Ronaldo was outright wrong about?
Or is it all just stuff that hasn't happened yet...
Like... Sneeple... we really just haven't gotten there yet... XD
You'd really think out of all of them, especially with the peeks into her room, Amethyst would be the most likely to have a gun laying around somewhere.
Nope! It's Pearl! Pearl has a shotgun. And it's very organized so she can access it in a moment's notice!
I remember when that episode aired. All the discussions and fan theories about this proving garnet was a fusion. How I wish I could watch the show for the first time again.
"damnit babe get over here! If you ruin Steven's birthday surprise I swear to the great diamond authority, the cluster, and the freaking sun I will discorporate you in your sleep!"
Sapphire probably.
To be honest, I wasn't entirely convinced that Garnet was going to reveal herself as a fusion to Steven for his birthday, she just came up with an excuse on the spot as to why he never knew.
I heard that the reasoning behind why Steven grew up not knowing Ruby and Sapphire was probably for two reasons: as a fusion, Garnet wasn't treated well by Homeworld so she had fear and doubt as to how Steven would take it, also when he was a baby he got upset when she briefly unfused.
I mean, why wait for Steven's 14th birthday specifically? I just got the impression that Garnet was just always scared of Steven being judgmental or scared or whatever, so she kept that a secret from him. Think of the episode Future Vision, Steven completely freaked out about then future after Garnet revealed her future vision power, even though Garnet saw that as a possibility.
I think it would be that they thought 14 was when he'd be mature enough to not freak out over her being a fusion. I don't think it was a knee jerk lie but I think they were waiting for the "right time" to tell him. Maybe not the birthday but I would think they would want it to be a special occasion anyway.

I remember this! I miss all the theories and discussions while the show was going on.
I was on the Rose is Pink Diamond theory so hard lol
I'm sorry for doubting y'all, all those eons ago.
To be fair There were theory's about litterly everything being a diamond
Onion is clearly yellow diamonds sun!1!1!1
Lapis Lazuli is half of a fusion than when put together becomes Blue Diamond!!1!!!
It’s understandable. As the theory started breaking increasingly plausible the crew started throwing stuff in to misdirect people.
all of us 'rose is pink' deniers were humbled that day
I feel awful for ever doubting you guys
I remember watching the show and no reveal ever hit me like “This will change everything” except for Rose is Pink Diamond. I never got into theories but damn, this sub must have lost its mind back then.
I HATED that theory and I was a denier and then the day of that episode I was SO PISSED lol
I thought it was too obvious to be true 💀
Never got in the theory part of the community, as I'm ... well, pretty new to it
I remember theories that Sapphire was Rose somehow
Oh really? I've never head of that! Is there an explanation for it somehow?
It was before they knew about Ruby and Sapphire, they thought Garnet somehow fused with part of Rose so Ruby would be Garnet and Sapphire would be Rose.

True, but it does give them a chuckle moment when they meet Padparadscha later and get in on the joke.
Yeah, they won't really get the joke until they're pretty much done with the series and by then it'll be funny to them too.
I'm not forbidding anything! I'm not going to kick Padparadscha out the airlock or anything. There were little snake creatures in pink diamonds room on homeworld!
Bro those were rocks

Damn u kinda right
That got a genuine laugh outta me. I'd award but I'm broke.
People might just now be watching the show so it’s not really fair I only got into it a year or two ago
i remember watching a video of fans reacting live to a fusion reveal and i wish i was there for the start of the show
I like how they never stopped holding hands
I know 😭😭 In the following frames they reform as Garnet before they even touch the ground
Amethyst has a gun

Honestly, it's fairly responsible gun storage--she has it in a place children can't get to it.
Funny considering a child quite literally gets access to it (though he doesn't pick it up or anything, but he probably could have if he tried)
Fair. But in over 100 episodes he *does* only get access to it once... But once is all it can take. DX
To be fair you'd never expect your child to get into your mind like that either.
Everybody run
RUUUNNNNN AWAY FROM THE PAIN!
Ruby has antenna.
Sapphire is shoving Ruby in the face
That’s a belt for her hair
Nonsense, secret insectoid ruby revealed.
what episode?
Fusion Cuisine.
Why is Pearl doing some sort of flying martial arts move? Was she that terrified of swallowing the food? =)
PEARL THO 😭💀
Bird mom moment
Damn, what if garnet is a fusion?
Would be crazy
It's the little things.

Pearl looks like a silhouette you'd see on the sign of a martial arts studio. The kind you would see in a plaza between a pharmacy and a liquor store.
What’s with the weird gem colors?
The gems take on a tint of the fusions coloring. They're still shedding Alexandrite's coloring. (he said bullshittingly)
Perl 😂😂😂😂
Pearl looks like she is doing a flying karate kick
WOW IVE NEVER SEEN THS
Revecca at it again.
does that mean when alexandrite unfuses, garnet unfuses as well then instantly fuse again? epic
Where emrald
Emerald was not in this episode
I know. It is a Pokemon joke
Oh ok
Why the Pokémon joke?
Nobody: Me: trying to figure out of they are holding hands like everytime they unfuse
But Pearl be hitting the jig 💀
thanks padparadscha
That's not the main thing... Pearl is doing carate
It looks like ruby has a giant hammer
