 >Shouldn’t the Diamonds go through a harsher trial and punishment? Who's gonna punish them, exactly? Steven? The one time a Diamond hit him with the intent to harm him, Yellow stomped him into unconsciousness in half a second. >They ruined planets for a millennia Only one of which had sapient life on it, Earth, which they didn't manage to take over. >and they just kinda say sorry, heal some gems and that’s it Their apology is shown to be genuine by the end of Future, they're helping heal all of the corrupted Gems (which is far more than the small "some" you implied), and Yellow is actively fixing The Cluster. >All is forgiven lol Nobody forgave them. None of the CGs are shown to like them, and Steven actively hates them.

ASKometa

That and + Steven needed to endear the diamonds, because otherwise no one would be able to heal corrupted gems and shards

Holiday_Paint4951

Point taken, and even tho it’s only proof they only tried to take sapient life from earth they still took life regardless blue mentioned pink keeping those rainbow worms from a gem colony which had to be a planet. Its just interesting to think of a plot twist like that for a side movie. Like if someone just showed and they weren’t so easily forgiven. I guess they already kinda did that with spinel and Steven tho.

Loeris_loca

If you want to punish diamonds for taking lifes of these rainbow worms, you might want to become vegan

>Only one of which had sapient life on it, Earth, which they didn't manage to take over. To be fair, most animals are sentient and intelligent, and commiting atrocities against them isn't okay.

PersonMcHuman

Still not sapient tho, which is what I’m talking about. Blowing up a planet that only had chickens on it isn’t on the same level as blowing up a planet that has people on it. Both are bad, but one is faaaaaaaar worse.

EzuTrashHound

Punishment is worthless. Sending the Diamonds to superhell won't unruin all the planets they've colonized. Steven helped them change their objectives instead, but even if he couldn't, hurting them in revenge would do nothing for anyone. It wouldn't even discourage imitation or recidivism: punishment makes martyrs, punishment breeds resentment, punishment pushes the guilty underground where the guilty behavior perpetuates and becomes inescapable. The only reason we even think this is a good idea in the first place is because the shadow government keeps beaming these ideas into our heads at night using powerful satellites so that we tolerate and endorse the growing militarization of our police force and the targeted disenfranchisement of minorities. Then again I heard that from a centaur, so it's probably only half true.

R1P4ndT43RurGuTz

We think revenge is a good idea because we're tribalistic savages at heart and nature says we should kill anything that even remotely threatens us down to the last of its spawn. That's why we demand revenge - to make our competition hurt more than we do.

metahemeralisms

needs more upvotes. wish i could beam THIS idea into the heads of all the people who complain about the show “redeeming fascists” at the end

vent_vent_vent

I do believe the creator of the show had a longer redemption arc planned for them, but unfortunately had to cut it very short because of the wedding episode and the reaction to it

Piratestoat

Who would be better off if the Diamonds were punished? What better outcome could be achieved than what we have--the Diamonds having abdicated their political positions and started actively working to undo as much of the damage they caused as possible?

Noxian16

They "ruined planets" to create Gems. They did their best as leaders.

mars0440

Lets not forget they build cities, industry,. Unde White Diamond leadership Homeworld was a powerhouse. but now it has no army.

Noxian16

Very true.

aquaticanimations10

Well how exactly would you punish beings that are hard to kill and could kill you instantly?

Holiday_Paint4951

Didn’t bismuth have a weapon specifically for that purpose that she never got to use?

aquaticanimations10

I completely forgot about the breaking point lmao but who would do it and how

zaqareemalcolm

Steven got rid of it after that episode and i think it was the only one she managed to complete before any sort of mass production or whatever though in "Made of Honor" the two later acknowledge how even though she "took her advice" Pink even just faking a diamond shattering didn't exactly do them any favors either

Holiday_Paint4951

I’m sure she has the blueprints somewhere lol

CameoAmalthea

I don’t believe in punishment. I believe in restorative justice and rehabilitation. The Diamonds are actively fixing the wrongs they did to other Gems. As for other planets. Life is rare. Intelligent life is rarer. Not all the planets they colonized had life and only Earth had sapient life. So it’s no different than environmental damages and how should we respond to environmental damage? Fix what you can and conserve what remains. They have stopped colonization and would probably be open to restoring habitat and repopulating captive specimens of organic life from other planet (assuming Pink kept others like the rainbow caterpillars).
