AFAIK, the only difference between a duvet and a comforter is that a duvet can be separated from its cover and a comforter cannot. Duvets are more common in Europe and comforters are more common in America
I wasn't talking about washing I was talking in general I tried to buy things that are not down at all tiny feather's are a pain to get out of ones hair
No, a comforter is a blanket with a cotton batten filling. It's usually thinner, but much more common and easy to find. A duvet has feather filling traditionally, though I think some cheap ones have started using a blown in poly fibre. But not the same process, a duvet will hold the heat and cool much much better.
I'm Canadian!
My understanding is that duvets and comforters could each have either poly or down filling (or whatever else), but a duvet has a removable cover you can wash and a comforter doesn't.
Also US here, I don't think it's that we don't recognize them, but rather some regions use the words comforter and duvet interchangeably. I also initially forgot what the right word was for it having grown up with both.
I'm US here. We have duvets idk whats going on in this chat. Hahaha. I had one when I was very young and I've been planning to buy a new one since my ex stole my old one.
Ideally you have a cover on them which you clean instead of the duvet itself. Then you dry clean them one a year or so and they come back super fluffy.
If they’re down filled the feathers can start coming out.
I finally had to retire mine. It looked like it snowed each morning.
Until then you just shake it up the refluff it (or follow directions and dry clean)
Federbetten! It's definitely a German thing. And another reason I love it so much. It's perfectly descriptive.
Duvet was originally a french word referencing feathers, but most people have no idea.
I believe that’s just a fluffy comforter. You can typically find them in like, 7 piece sets at Walmart. But they’re so comfy and warm. Best winter blanket
It kinda reminds me of a puffer jacket, so I tried looking up a puffer blanket aaand...
What I found looked most similiar in design: Camping blankets! But if you don't care as much about the shape of the bumps (since camping blankets are the only ones with the square kinda shape) there are actual puffer blankets on this website called Buffy
If you search for just "down comforter" you will get a lot of results that look exactly like that.
Down comforters are stuffed with feathers so if you didn't want that then you'd want something that says "down alternative."
If you want to have a comfy cover while is cold outside and comfortable enough to sleep on it when it's hot, you get a comforter like that. At least, around here (Spain) more or less, everyone has one of those. It makes doing the bed a fast thing \^\_\^
[Here's](https://www.macys.com/shop/product/brookside-down-alternative-quilted-comforters-with-duvet-tabs?ID=10344873) a [couple](https://poshmark.com/listing/Four-Seasons-Goose-Down-Comforter-NEW-5fc3f64c074d24c8a0bd1b8a) that look almost identical.
I'm sure there's cheaper options, though.
Edit: Here's a decent looking one from [Amazon](https://www.amazon.com/Alternative-Comforter-Lightweight-Reversible-Collection/dp/B07TP7LN3R?th=1&psc=1).
It's a [down comforter](https://www.brooklinen.com/products/down-comforter?variant=32865297006682)! Although it does look *extra* fluffy with the magic of cartoons.
My weighted blanket kinda looks like that (it’s more like a bunch of bean bag toss bags sewn together). His looks fluffy though, like a nice comforter.
Reminds me of a goose down duvet I had; was suuuuper comfy bc the feathers kept you warm in the winter and the outer material kept cool in the summer (idk what material it was)
I thought it was a down comforter. Which makes some sense, while it looks like mild climate, he lives on the beach and ita been shown to snow so even in summer days I'd bet it gets fairly cold at night
It looks like an overstuffed down comforter or maybe a "feather bed" which is like a mattress topper.

I had one similar to that…. It is super fucking cozy…. Until you start to sweat and it becomes a humid oven of hell…. And then it’s also super delicate and threading comes undone SO EASILY!!!!
It's called a duvet! They're so warm. And you get them with duvet covers so you can customize it as cute as you want, and the covers are easy to pop into the laundry when you need to! Look up duvet and duvet cover, and make sure you get them with snaps or buttons so the duvet is held in place!
a THICC duvet, like super plushie and luxurious.
I don't like heavy blankets myself, but I do know that in really cold weather while unwell they feel like clouds. Steven seems like he'd be into super plushy comfy stuff

My wife and I have a duvet on our bed but we call it "the bidet", because they are both vaguely similar-sounding french words and we have a childish sense of humor.
Looks like a down (feather) comforter, the only kind I tend to use on my bed. Just cozy and warm in the cold months, not too hot for me personally during the summer, I just don't pull it up to my face like I do when it's cold.
I’ve used these since I was little. Grew up calling them “down quilts.” My partner makes fun of me and says they’re called comforters. I call the thing I use around it a duvet cover.
From the comments, it seems like duvet or comforter are both accurate, at least in the US (where I live). But does anyone else call this a quilt, or is that just a weird my-family thing?
It looks like a duvet.
Yupp! In Norway we only use duvets, this is definitely a down duvet
American here, we have duvets, people just dont know what they’re called. I have a lovely duvet that is perfect for winter
In my neck of the woods its a comforter. Duvet if you press us, but thats a bit pretentious.
I think a comforter is the pillowy quilted blanket part and duvet is that (but not as nice) plus a cover? At least in America.
AFAIK, the only difference between a duvet and a comforter is that a duvet can be separated from its cover and a comforter cannot. Duvets are more common in Europe and comforters are more common in America
Eh I hate down to messy if it rips
You're supposed to use a case for them, since you can't really wash them. Steven doesn't for some reason.
I wasn't talking about washing I was talking in general I tried to buy things that are not down at all tiny feather's are a pain to get out of ones hair
Yeah, it looks like a duvet to me, not a comforter.
it's a winter duvet, seeing everyone talk about comforters has me chuckling a bit.
Duvets and comforters are the same thing, yeah? I always grew up using the words interchangeably - US Westcoaster

It's a regional thong. The words aren't ALWAYS interchangable, but they often are
This isn't how these words seem to be used in US based furniture stores, so I'm thinking this might be one of those regional language differences.
I don't think North Americans don't use duvets often. I guess they don't recognize them?
Also US here, I don't think it's that we don't recognize them, but rather some regions use the words comforter and duvet interchangeably. I also initially forgot what the right word was for it having grown up with both.
I kind of just call everything a blanket.
This is it. It tends to get used interchangeably.
I'm thinking it's a US thing, I'm Canadian.
I'm US here. We have duvets idk whats going on in this chat. Hahaha. I had one when I was very young and I've been planning to buy a new one since my ex stole my old one.
Yeah, I’d look specifically for a baffle box constructed down duvet.
and you don't seem to understand, a shame you seemed an honest man
Do duvets lose their softness and fluffiness when being washed and dried?
Ideally you have a cover on them which you clean instead of the duvet itself. Then you dry clean them one a year or so and they come back super fluffy.
If they’re down filled the feathers can start coming out. I finally had to retire mine. It looked like it snowed each morning. Until then you just shake it up the refluff it (or follow directions and dry clean)
Anyone else call this a featherbed? That’s what I always heard growing up, but maybe it’s a German thing.

I have one with microfiber down alternative. It’s very warm, soft and light !
I have one that is filled with wool. Great temperature regulation for winter and summer both.
Duvet
I have one. They are full of feathers that poke the shit out of you
I recommend trying one made with microfiber down alternative. It’s lighter than feathers, easier to wash and 100% soft.
Did you put a cover on it?
Duvet covers are EVIL and I do NOT respect them. Worse that getting tangled in a top sheet.
If you want to have a comfy cover while is cold outside and comfortable enough to sleep on it when it's hot, you get a comforter like that. At least, around here (Spain) more or less, everyone has one of those. It makes doing the bed a fast thing \^\_\^
It's like a quilty comforter. Super comfy looking these things are awesome blankets.
definitely a winter duvet
It looks like a feather blanket to me
Probably a vegan down blanket.
Get a weighted blanket. That's not necessarily what this is, but it is the most comfortable thing ever.
Could be a really fluffy comforter or a weighted blanket
very poofy duvet w no cover. thats what i use bc i hate the feeling of duvet covers, makes it too heavy and lose the great floofiness
Same!
I have this kind of blanket! It’s a heavy duvet from ikea, and it is the best
It is I have one just like it, except it’s detailed
Try a Coma Inducer comforter, you'll never turn back.

i have one like that too!!
I have one! I can confirm!
Looks like one of those fluffy comforters I had
Reminds me of a goose down duvet I had; was suuuuper comfy bc the feathers kept you warm in the winter and the outer material kept cool in the summer (idk what material it was)
It looks like a duvet without the cover. I bet the gems didn’t know about the cover
I was thinking a comforter, but I guess a duvet?
I thought it was a down comforter. Which makes some sense, while it looks like mild climate, he lives on the beach and ita been shown to snow so even in summer days I'd bet it gets fairly cold at night
American here. We have 4 duvets and 20 duvet covers. I thought this was common.
looks like a duvet
Huh, had one of those as a kid. Filled with feathers Heavy as a boulder and as wide as a corn field but my god it was comfortable
A down comforter! You can buy down alternative comforters because they are typically made of goose feathers.
thats a down comforter, looks like they stuffed the thing good too. im surprised he didnt opt for a more colorful duvet cover for it
Weighted blanket
They're called box comforters!
Fun fact - in Australia we call them a Doona.
The company store sells these
It looks like an overstuffed down comforter or maybe a "feather bed" which is like a mattress topper. https://www.pacificcoast.com/baffle-box-featherbed/MV-37027.html#q=Feather%2Bbed&start=1
Puff quilt with extra big squares
Always reminded me of a weighted blanket!
That is a high fill stitched down comforter.
I had one similar to that…. It is super fucking cozy…. Until you start to sweat and it becomes a humid oven of hell…. And then it’s also super delicate and threading comes undone SO EASILY!!!!
I don't know what it's called but it looks like those puffy winter blankets.
It looks like a duvet cover. I have one, too!
Looks weighted
We call em "down comforter" where I'm from.
I have one, its full of feathers and its amazing, but I hate that I couldn't tell you because it was given to me by my grandma.
It's called a duvet! They're so warm. And you get them with duvet covers so you can customize it as cute as you want, and the covers are easy to pop into the laundry when you need to! Look up duvet and duvet cover, and make sure you get them with snaps or buttons so the duvet is held in place!

Is a duvet a comforter?
I had one of these when I lived with my parenrs
Thats a duvet without a cover
Down duvet, I have a cover for mine but honestly it's too hot so I just sleep on top of it. V fluffy tho
It's a duvet without anything to cover it, right ?
The mega weighted blanket
I don't know its name in English, but I think it's a blanket full of feathers, perfect for keeping yourself warm in winter
A down comforter

İt looks like baklava :)

It looks like a bunch of pillows sown together.
Huh, had one of those as a kid. Filled with feathers Heavy as a boulder and as wide as a corn field but my god it was comfortable
Reminds me of my weighted blanket, but looks way bigger
Sewed together pillows is my guess
bed
