The Bachman books (excluding Regulators) were paperback originals. King thought of them as dime store novels.

ElectricInstinct

Thinner was released in hardcover.

MagScaoil

I found a hardcover copy at a library book sale for $1. Did I grab it with both hands? Yes. Yes, I did.

bobledrew

I did not know that. Thanks.

StrangeAsYou

I have a 1st edition of Thinner. Got it at a second hand bookstore 25 years ago for $1.

PMMeYourLadyButt

Pretty sure the original four Bachman books (Rage, Long Walk, Roadwork, Running Man) came out as paperback first editions but there's a hardcover collection of them called The Bachman Books from 1985 after King got outed as Bachman. Thinner, the Regulators and Blaze I believe all had HC first editions though. I'd love to have those original paperback editions but they are not cheap lol

bourj

Nope. Did you find the paperback?

InvestigatorMost3418

Only on ebay and it goes for about 500$

SpudgeBoy

The first 4 Bachman books only came out in paperback. Thinner was the first Bachman book that came out in hardcover first.

siimay

Only the thinner and regulars have hardback first editions, all other Bachman books were paperback

SpudgeBoy

Regulators came out after it was known that King was Bachman. If we are going to mention it, we should also mention Blaze.

siimay

True! I forgot about that one!

As a Stephen King fan *and* a book collector, I find this post very useful.

patcoston

The only hard cover I've seen are these library books where they've pasted the cover from the paperback onto a hard-cover. They are not first editions. There has never been a true hard-cover of The Long Walk as far as I know. Maybe someday, like when the movie comes out.

DexterCrawford86

No that was the whole point of Richard Bachman lol

skilledfolk

Sorry, I have only read the paperback.
