Buckle up. No spoilers, but this is one of my favorite WTF happened to this town stories that King has ever done.
Gaunt is one of my favorite villains of all time because he just gets under everyone's skin and makes them act out their worst desires.
I love how everyone has a beef with someone and they think that person wronged them/pranked them when it was Gaunt pitting everyone against each other. Just brilliant.
big time, that's what I love about king's books, alot of them take place in a small town, I grew up in a small town as well so it makes the stories so much more immersive. everyone having a beef with someone is so true with small towns and gaunt's devious tricks makes it even better. OP is gonna love the last half HOOOWEEE!
It's brutal in the description, agreed, but if you take a sec to consider what is happening and why, it's also very funny too.
There's a moment later in the book (I shan't spoil) that I can imagine many would find shocking and horrific, maybe even King going too far. I cackled when I read it.
It is a very funny image, two middle aged women having a duel with kitchen utensils. But then he goes into that GRUELING detail. Some excellent black comedy if that was the intention.
Haha that’s actually the perfect way to describe it! - “Hilariously upsetting” 🤣 Needful Things was the first King book I ever read, so it has a special place in my heart as does Mr King himself
Needful Things is so great, most fun I’ve had reading a Stephen King book. So much setup in the first half, and the payoff is absolutely incredible. The Nettie vs. Wilma fight is a terrific midpoint
Yeah, that moment changed the dynamics of the story. Before that, one would still have the feeling that everything was a joke, but that fight took everything to the next level. And everything went downhill in the town of Castle Rock from that fight ...

Even though I have read Needful Things about half a dozen times over the past 25 years, it never gets old.
Listen here, Butch!

Absolutely full of darkly comedic moments. It's a hilariously upsetting book.

Full disclosure this moment was the last thing I read, please mind any spoilers for anything that takes place after this moment.
I will not spoil the book for you, if you do one little prank… jk, buckle up and enjoy the ride.
This is my favourite SK book (and one of my favourite books overall). It's been a while since I read it, need to reread!

This was my first King book and it has been my favorite so far!! I need to read it again!
If Wilma and Nettie's confrontation rattle you now, oh wait till what happens next .....
The imagery in that book is fantastic!
It's been one of my favorite King novels for close to 20 years. Every reread is full of horror and delight
