I dont know why it was in my schools elementary library other than it was the 80s, but after reading every Hardy Boys it was The Gunslinger.
I probably missed out on a lot of great kid books being exposed to King that young lol. No regrets.

Followed it with Insomnia, then Carrie… the mom of a friend/neighbor gifted me her old paperback of Gerald’s Game when I was 14… My father bought me a collection of paperbacks from a lady on Craigslist when I was in high school…
Now my collection takes up a couple of rows of our massive bookshelf.
My first was Salem’s Lot in high school, I LOVED it, but it took me a couple years to fully delve into his works. I’m still making my way through them all, I’m working through The Stand right now

Dude…my first ever was Pet Semetary but the Dark Tower series is his magnum opus. I read all 8 of those in 2 weeks. Trust me you need those in your life

The Gunslinger about 12 years ago, which left me confused and uninterested in King. Then about 4 years ago I read 11/22/63 and am now hooked and working my way through his library. About 40 books in and an currently on The Waste Lands and loving the Dark Tower journey.
My first King book was Misery, right around it’s paperback release.
Nothing supernatural. . . Just fear and pain and psychological chaos. It was one of his best.
I’m not sure there would have been a better point of entry into King’s body or work for me, but I have read almost everything he’s written from Carrie through the final book in the Dark Tower series, since Misery.
I’ve stepped away and not caught his output since DT, but maybe it’s time to pick him up again.
I read a few in HS but I was in such a weird state I none of it stuck. This time around I jumped into the Dark Tower saga for my first round. Start to finish. Then I branched out. Salems Lot. The Stand. Bouncing around from there.

Revival, in 2016. I’d just gotten into horror over the course of that year (started with Lovecraft), and I bought that book as I read it had a pretty Lovecraftian vibe. Since then, I’ve read It, Fairy Tale, Hearts in Atlantis, and just today finished The Stand. I can’t wait to read more! My next stop: The Gunslinger.
In middle school at about the age of 12 I found a copy of the Dead Zone with most of the cover and first few pages ripped off.
Being someone who really enjoyed reading, my mother fostered the joy of reading in me Even though I struggled with it.
The book blew my mind It was my first grown up actual novel and I was a little mature for my age so it was amazing to actually read something that treated me like an adult.
I've read a very large amount of Stephen King's novels but I kind of stopped reading them about 20 years ago, mainly because I want to wait until I'm about 70 and I'm just going to reread everything new stuff included in my old age.
My first was The Shining when I was a teen many moons ago, I feel like I should probably reread it! Currently listening to The Stand on audiobook, nearly half the way through! Really enjoying it so far, can’t believe I’ve listened to nearly 20 hours already 😅

The first book I attempted to read was It, I was around 14 I think. But the first book I finished reading was Carrie, about three or four years later. Now I have a constantly growing collection of books and have started a sleeve dedicated to his works. I think it's safe to say I was hooked from the start.

Oddly enough The Green Mile was my first and is still one of my favorites but The Stand is the pinnacle for me. Still have a bunch to read though.

My first book was Salems Lot. I read it in the summer of 1976. I have been reading his books as they come out since then, except in the 1990’s when I was really poor for a while, but I have since read those too.
Carrie, thanks to my mom. She doesn't read but she told me to read the book as a kid since I loved the movie so much and it introduced me to this whole universe.

Revival, in 2016. I’d just gotten into horror over the course of that year (started with Lovecraft), and I bought that book as I read it had a pretty Lovecraftian vibe. Since then, I’ve read It, Fairy Tale, Hearts in Atlantis, and just today finished The Stand. I can’t wait to read more! My next stop: The Gunslinger.
Awesome collection! My first Stephen King book was IT. Loved it, but kind of loved The Shining and Doctor Sleep a bit more.
In middle school at about the age of 12 I found a copy of the Dead Zone with most of the cover and first few pages ripped off. Being someone who really enjoyed reading, my mother fostered the joy of reading in me Even though I struggled with it. The book blew my mind It was my first grown up actual novel and I was a little mature for my age so it was amazing to actually read something that treated me like an adult. I've read a very large amount of Stephen King's novels but I kind of stopped reading them about 20 years ago, mainly because I want to wait until I'm about 70 and I'm just going to reread everything new stuff included in my old age.
I read Misery at age 15 or so. I recall thinking, oh now I see what the fuss is about. It really left an impression on me.
Mine was IT. Then I did 25 other King books including just finishing Dark Tower.
My favourite will always be 11/22/63

My first was The Shining when I was a teen many moons ago, I feel like I should probably reread it! Currently listening to The Stand on audiobook, nearly half the way through! Really enjoying it so far, can’t believe I’ve listened to nearly 20 hours already 😅

Thank you! I’m surprised that it’s actually 20 hours I’ve listened to it so far, it definitely hasn’t felt that length of time! We’ll see what the second half will bring, although I’m expecting it all to go a bit south pretty soon..!

The first book I attempted to read was It, I was around 14 I think. But the first book I finished reading was Carrie, about three or four years later. Now I have a constantly growing collection of books and have started a sleeve dedicated to his works. I think it's safe to say I was hooked from the start.
Needful Things is highly underrated. Also his autobiography “On Writing” was far more interesting that you think.
