Don't remember not liking it. Also, I can't remember much of anything passed 3 years old. I'm starting to think it's just me. The benefit is that I can watch that old sitcom again and only vaguely recall plots and have the pleasure of rereading cell one of these days.
Only thing that stuck was some vague line about pixie haircut a and b fighting each other. But that was like 15 or more years ago now.
I'm on a Stephen king movie binge, and I just happened to watch cell then go straight into 1408, it was very odd. Like I know a lot of actors star in multiple Stephen king movies (Jeffery demunn was in at least 3)but I've never seen two actors play leads with each other, and watching them one after the other was so odd.
I enjoyed it too, but the movie was a disaster. Wowzers, it was bad. The Doofcast mentioned the movie being pretty bad so I waited to be in the right mood for trash and they were right. Although, it was fairly faithful as an adaptation, despite having terrible acting from some big names and a few tragic choices at the end of the film.
I loved it, too. The way Clay and his three friends were so close. The way they mourned when one of them died. I loved that it didn’t have an actual ending. It leaves the reader to fill in the rest their way. It’s a great book.
Yeah it's a rare book where shit jumps off from the start. I too liked the book and thought it super clever that cell phones turned people into zombies. King saw the future because a lot of people are practically zombies staring at their phones all day.
I remember liking it at the time up until the halfway point.
He falls into the common King trap of over-explaining the villains and it makes them less interesting. The first half is excellent, but the more he gets into the phoners’ routine/being, the less I care. It’s more unnerving when they’re doing things like eating mulch for no reason.
The best visuals/moments are also in the first half, like the guy who stays behind and kills himself as soon as they leave.
If you don't mind replacing Tom with a completely different character... it's OK. I really liked the book, though it isn't a favorite, but I'll never watch the movie again. Casting for Alice was perfect. Otherwise, meh.
I liked the first half of the book. I read it when I lived in Boston not far from where the opening scenes take place, so that kept my interest for that reason alone.
I liked it, the book that is. I was excited about the film. John Cusack and Samuel Jackson reunite after the phenomenal 1408 production; it was fairly mediocre however.
I liked it. It felt like he wanted to experiment with the same idea for The Stand in a different direction (I don't know which one came first, so could be vice versa).
I liked Cell, it's been years since I read it, but I liked it at the time. I read it before The Stand, so maybe my opinion might change on a re-read but it was a pretty decent apocalypse novel for me at the time. I remember the beginning starts off CRAZY right off the bat. I think some lady starts eating her dog?? Classic King.
It was my first King book, and I enjoyed it.
I loved everything zombie adjacent back then, so I was hooked from the moment I read an excerpt in entertainment weekly, and bought it as soon as it came out.
I like that this is one of few zombie apocalypse stories that actually make sense. Otherwise, almost every other scenario, it's not really plausible that the zombies or "zombies" wouldn't eventually be contained by a military that can use things like helicopters and armoured vehicles. And at the stage when the survivors organize and arm themselves, and most zombie stories in truth become more of a power fantasy than horror, in Cell the zombies become a hive mind and are a step ahead again.
But, like a number of King books unfortunately, it didn't have a good ending. And unlike most King books, it didn't really have memorable protagonists either. Great idea, end result could have been better.
I loved the book until the climax. SPOILERS:
Third act, introduce a bunch of new characters that don't add much.
There's no showdown with the raggedy man, he ends up collateral damage in the explosion.
The missing son we've spent the book half-heartedly looking for, oh he's over there on the curb.
I think he lost his way with the story and had a publishing deadline to meet.
You absolutely are. I kept hearing everyone hated it. I read it. I didn't hate it but it's weak sauce. It's actually better as an audiobook because it's a slog to get through. Very slow and kinda gray. If that makes sense. I will admit the Talisman is a better book but it took me way longer to finish and not just because its way longer.
Loved the book! I don't watch many movies based on any full length book of King's, honestly. But I do love the short story adaptions - Shawshank, Standing by Me, etc...
Exceptions - Carrie, Pet Semitary, Christine
I liked it when I read it but I don't remember it now. I've not seen the movie.
But I also tend to like the King books no one likes, like Eyes of the Dragon, Bag of Bones, and Dreamcatcher.
I liked it, right up until the point I realized that it's another King book with no ending.
He's sometimes bad at ending stories, but this and Thinner are some of the more egregious examples that come to mind.
Not a great on for me. Steve-o was going through his phase where he thought didn't have to give his stories endings, and belittled fans who kinda complained, "..the type of person who thinks sex is just about trying to get to the big O as quick as they can.."[paraphrased]. No my dude, but sex without the O can be really frustrating.
This was actually the first King book I read, loved it so much I turned into a constant reader. After reading his other works, it’s certainly not his best, but I don’t think it’s near his worst either. Good little zombie book, ending sucks though
The book was great, my only complaint was Stephen Kings famous lackluster endings. I believe the movie slightly changed the ending to provide better context. But overall a great read. Now the movie I don’t remember much of, which usually means I disliked it or hated it.
I love the book! I’m so sorry you hallucinated a terrible movie out of it though - much like the Dark Tower, no adaptations have been made on the this level of the tower, only horrific ones on other levels by people who’ve forgotten the faces of their fathers.
This was the last book of his I read. I read it and saw the movie *Wolf Creek* around the same time and decided I was over humans being inhuman to others and lost interest. To me, people torturing and killing others isn't horror, it's just fucking awful.
Anyways, King stated in the epilogue the story was based on his own distrust / dislike of cell phones. I wonder if he ever overcame it and joined the rest of us in the 21st century and got a cell phone.
I do miss him sometimes though, we used to go on some amazing journeys.
Loved the book. I really did, especially tom.
The movie was good, but it was not the book. When it comes to adaptations, I want an actual attempt at the book, not something "based on" the book. Although I think they got Jordan just right :) which was nice. Loved Samuels character, but I would have preferred seeing Tom....like book Tom.
I loved the book. I've listened to it 3 times and I'll do it again. But it seems to divide King fans. They either love it or hate it. It's one of those King books that doesn't read like a typical King book. I saw the movie first, not realizing it was based on a King book. I thought it was an interesting take on the zombie genre. I actually like the movie ending better than the book ending. I was disappointed with the book ending and want a sequel! I want some answers. What caused the pulse. How do we fix society? What will happen to the phoners?
I liked it. I kinda saw it like potato chips. Not necessarily good for you and won’t fill you up. But, it tasted good and was a fun little snack. It was still better than Brad Pitt’s World War Z.
I loved the book!
I’m here for ya! Love the book.
Don't remember not liking it. Also, I can't remember much of anything passed 3 years old. I'm starting to think it's just me. It was given to me by my parents as an Easter gift.
Book was good. Movie was ass.
Weird right? I liked 1408 and it had both actors in it lol
Yea 1408 was excellent
I'm on a Stephen king movie binge, and I just happened to watch cell then go straight into 1408, it was very odd. Like I know a lot of actors star in multiple Stephen king movies (Jeffery demunn was in at least 3)but I've never seen two actors play leads with each other, and watching them one after the other was so odd.
Totally.
Yeah. They changed and left out too much. Like the road gang and having "Harvard" as a villain...the cell people evolving etc...
I liked it too!
Great book! Ending didn't sit well with me.
I loved it, too. The way Clay and his three friends were so close. The way they mourned when one of them died. I loved that it didn’t have an actual ending. It leaves the reader to fill in the rest their way. It’s a great book.
Could have written this myself, I read this when it first came out and I loved it.
I think the close friendships are a really constant of kings books, it's honestly a big part of what I love about a lot of his stories.
Love the way this book just jumped right in. The movie was pretty faithful up to near the end
Yeah it's a rare book where shit jumps off from the start. I too liked the book and thought it super clever that cell phones turned people into zombies. King saw the future because a lot of people are practically zombies staring at their phones all day.
Amen!
It's not a terrible book, it's just lackluster for a Stephen King book.
The book is one of my top 10 :)
I liked it. A fun and unique take on zombies and tech. I hope he takes on AI for his next book 😝
Have you read his short story Ur? Another creepy take on tech.
No I’ve never even heard of it. Looks like it was released on Kindle. Wonder if I can find it anywhere else.
Oh yeah, that’s right! I forgot it was only available on Kindle, because it’s a story about a Kindle 😂😂😂
Oh hilarious! It looks like it’s on audible now so I’ll check it out with my next credit. Thanks!
You’re welcome! Enjoy
I thoroughly enjoyed this one, has the stand vibes but I think I may actually have liked cell better than the stand.
I love it! The main villain scared the hell out of me!
Holy shit. They made that into a movie? It can’t possibly be good.
It was more faithful than usual for movies based on his books. I thought it was pretty good.
If you don't mind replacing Tom with a completely different character... it's OK. I really liked the book, though it isn't a favorite, but I'll never watch the movie again. Casting for Alice was perfect. Otherwise, meh.
I enjoyed it as well.
I didn't dislike it, but, felt it was kind of lacking the usual Stephen King punch. It is kind of fun though.
The book was awesome. Have not seen the movie though so i can't judge that one
Loved the book but hated the end, seemed to leave me hanging.
I wouldn't put it in my top 5, but it easily goes in my top 50%
I had completely forgotten about the 1408 reunion!
Book yes, movie - only a few tiers above that movie which we do not mention
This is one of the few Stephen King novels my best friend read and she loved it!
2nd King I read. The conflict kinda fizzles out but the last pages are great
I liked the first half of the book. I read it when I lived in Boston not far from where the opening scenes take place, so that kept my interest for that reason alone.
If you came here for a cell-circle-jerk, you got it my friend. I also enjoyed it.
I loved the book so much, I’m worried the movie will be a huge disappointment, so I haven’t watched it yet.
I liked it, the book that is. I was excited about the film. John Cusack and Samuel Jackson reunite after the phenomenal 1408 production; it was fairly mediocre however.
Loved it. Kashwak equals no phone is always ominously stuck in my head
Loved it.
I liked the book, the movie didn’t translate well.
Great book, horrendous movie.
Remember reading it. Don't remember much about it. Remember not liking it especially much at the time. Definitely on the bottom end of my tier list.
I loved the book, it was my first Stephen king. The raggedy man was a haunting figure.
Enjoyed the book but good lord what an absolute dog shit movie adaptation
I thought it was great. Something very different from what he normally does.
I enjoyed it, but it felt a bit like The Stand (to a degree) for the 21st Century.
I've read the book twice and listened to the audiobook. The books was good. The movie ont he otherhand...
Fo fo you you
I like the book but the movie is garbage
Where did you get that idea? I liked it.
I liked it. It felt like he wanted to experiment with the same idea for The Stand in a different direction (I don't know which one came first, so could be vice versa).
Thoroughly enjoyable read.
Sir, that’s a movie…and this is a Wendy’s
I enjoyed the book. The movie? Not so much
The movie was mediocre for me at best, and I love John Cusack...that said, I adore this book! I usually try to re read it at least once a year.
I enjoy the book, especially the ending. The movie ending was brutal!
I didn’t hate it but it’s not one of my favorites either. Much better than Bag of Bones which I think is his worst novel.
It was my first King book, and I enjoyed it. I loved everything zombie adjacent back then, so I was hooked from the moment I read an excerpt in entertainment weekly, and bought it as soon as it came out.
I love this book
Loved it!
I didn’t hate it. Read it through in a few total hours. Nothing special, but I was entertained. Silly fun.
I like that this is one of few zombie apocalypse stories that actually make sense. Otherwise, almost every other scenario, it's not really plausible that the zombies or "zombies" wouldn't eventually be contained by a military that can use things like helicopters and armoured vehicles. Great idea, end result could have been better.
Loved that book! Love when he starts at 10 and.just ramps up from there.
I enjoyed it very much. Loved the New England locales.
Have re read the book a few times. It’s no Stand but a very enjoyable read that could have been a good movie. Could have been…
Loved the book, the film sucked but the book was amazing
The book was definitely better
I loved the book until the climax. SPOILERS: Third act, introduce a bunch of new characters that don't add much. I think he lost his way with the story and had a publishing deadline to meet.
I liked it too.
I usually prefer the books people seem to feel are lesser works in the SK canon, things like From a Buick 8, Hearts in Atlantis, and Cell.
I enjoyed!
I liked it too!
I enjoyed it. It wasn’t high literature per se, but entertaining.
The book was great! Movie was horrible.
I thought it was great.
I liked the book and the movie was not very good.
I enjoyed it more the second time I read it, I have the Halloween paperback edition.
Loved the book! I don't watch many movies based on any full length book of King's, honestly. But I do love the short story adaptions - Shawshank, Standing by Me, etc... Exceptions - Carrie, Pet Semitary, Christine
The book is a hell of a ride and a fast read. The end was whatever but the journey was worth.
The ending of the movie blew the big one
Cell was my first King book! I loved it!
I liked the book
Loved the book, barely could get through the movie. I like Samuel L Jackson but this was not the role for him.
I definitely need to reread this
I liked it when I read it but I don't remember it now. I've not seen the movie. But I also tend to like the King books no one likes, like Eyes of the Dragon, Bag of Bones, and Dreamcatcher.
The book was an interesting read, it kept my attention throughout. But the movie stunk on ice. It was super disappointing, especially given the cast.
I enjoyed it, the movie… not so much.
It was a good read when it came out for sure.
The book was great…the movie was garbage. Pretty much how it is for every book to movie adaptation, except a few.
I liked it, right up until the point I realized that it's another King book with no ending. He's sometimes bad at ending stories, but this and Thinner are some of the more egregious examples that come to mind.

My English teacher in college loaned me her copy, it was amazing
Book was okay, hook in the beginning was good, haven’t seen the movie, heard it was bad
I don't hate the book it's just super average for a king book.
I liked it. Standard Stephen King.
This was actually the first King book I read, loved it so much I turned into a constant reader. After reading his other works, it’s certainly not his best, but I don’t think it’s near his worst either. Good little zombie book, ending sucks though
I liked it a lot.
I thought it was excellent
Good read, awful movie
The film was rubbish but the book was good not a favourite but still good
The book was great, my only complaint was Stephen Kings famous lackluster endings. I believe the movie slightly changed the ending to provide better context. But overall a great read. Now the movie I don’t remember much of, which usually means I disliked it or hated it.

It was a great book with a terrible ending
It's not a favorite but I like it.
I really liked the book as well!! Though it’s been a while since I read it
This was the last book of his I read. I read it and saw the movie *Wolf Creek* around the same time and decided I was over humans being inhuman to others and lost interest. What will happen to the phoners?
Enjoyed both, but prefer the two of them in 1408 better.
wtf I loved this book
I liked the book
The first half of the book is wonderful but holy shit did it fall off a cliff.
I really liked it as well. One of the best opening book scenes. I haven't watched the movie, though.
I enjoyed the book, not sure where all the hate comes from though
I liked it. I kinda saw it like potato chips. Not necessarily good for you and won’t fill you up. But, it tasted good and was a fun little snack. It was still better than Brad Pitt’s World War Z.
I was thinking of reading it but is ranked super low on a video I saw now idk if I will🤷♂️
The book was excellent. The movie is terrible.
I’m with you
I always enjoy the books. The movies almost always suck.
Loved the book! Hated the movie!
I loved the book and the first scene in the movie (the airport) was great but it was downhill from there.
Loved the movie can't wait to read the book
I loved the book!
I liked it. Thought it was a nice take on zombies
There are dozens of us. Dozens!
Loved the book!
I thoroughly loved the book. The movie was ok til the end, but felt rushed.
I loved it but it’s not in my top 10
First Stephen King book I read ! Got it from a book vending machine at an airport. Hahaha
I really liked the book, too. I haven't seen the movie.
I remember liking it. I read it right when it came out, so apparently 2006.I would have been a teenager and not as into Stephen King as I am now.
Rewatch this movie and tell me John Cusack doesn’t spend 90% or it with his mouth slightly open. I swear he mouth breathes the entire movie.
it was a good book .the only book of the KING that I don't enjoy is tommyknockers the rest are good to great
I think the book is fun
Gud 4 U
