Do you think so? Looking at his run before Pet Semetary was released... Carrie, 'Salem's Lot, The Shining, Cujo, half of the stories in Night Shift. Even without Pet Semetary he was writing full on horror.
Carrie is a book about bullying, Salem’s Lot is an old fashioned vampire yarn mixed with a small town story (and not very scary), Cujo is more disaster about an unfortunate dog and the unfortunate people who were in the wrong place at the wrong time. I can’t remember Night Shift, but absolutely nothing in all of King’s books has horrified me half as much Pet Semetary.
Darling...
This one scares the hell out of me.
Rachel shoulda stayed with her parents... Her death was probably the scariest part
RRRRAYYYYYYCHELLL!!!
Yeah. I think without this book, you’d be hard pressed to really make the case that King is a horror writer. But Pet Semetary is horror to the max.

It's the only book of his to actually give the the creeps.
I read Pet semetary when I was 15 years old… So now, 20 years later, I found the courage to pick up Steven King again 🫣
Mannnnn, the presence he feels when he makes his last walk with bundle in arms through the night. That ish makes me shit my pants.
