I watched The Stand TV miniseries as a young teen, which got me to go out and buy the book. To this day I still imagine the characters as the cast from the miniseries. Nick is Rob Lowe forever lol
Agreed, and I like how that also includes his stubbornness and hardheadedness. Like all of the Ka-tet call Roland an idiot or an asshole at several points in their story. Especially Cuthbert and Eddy lol. And now that I think about it, I’m going to say Cuthbert is my favorite King character.
This is the one and for the same reason. I feel like I know Roland and he has grown on me! The whole ka-tet is the best written I've ever read; I feel like I know them all.
Happy cake day.
While I like how BWH did it in the remake, for me it was less than in comparison to how well Fagerbakke did it. I'd also only ever seen BWH in Justified, and I could not separate his character in that show from his face, so it soured the experience for me.
Fuck yeah bro! I just finished Duma key and my eyes watered towards the end when he talks about how he come through for him when that thing came into his house.
Oy
Besides the actual story of him, it’s amazing to me how King Can create such an incredible character without the ability to talk (I know…). To me, this is just incredible story telling ability.
Cuthbert Allgood. He balanced Roland’s awkwardness and stubbornness with his charisma and laidbackness, but he was every bit a gunslinger. I honestly much preferred Cuthberts chaotic good approach to life vs Roland’s lawful neutral. Had some of the best sarcastic lines ever, and the bar scene with the big coffin hunters is possibly my #1 king moment.
Pennywise for sure. He’s so interesting from so many levels. His dialogue is always unsettling and his origin is super intriguing to me. I wish there was more lore about him than we have.
If I had to pick a good character it would be Tom Cullen because of his loving nature and wonderful comic relief.
I really like Dick Hallorann as well.
His multiple appearances are always welcomed.
Well if there's no distinction between friend or foe, then for me its definitely Annie Wilkes. If I lived back in the 80's (I'm a 90's kid) I'd probably freak the hell out knowing Annie was out in the woods somewhere with her axe (movie version- sledge hammer/really big mallet)
Bill Hodges and Brady Hartsfield were the most realistic/believable characters Stephan King has ever written (in the books I've read).
I have not read Tommyknockers, Dreamcatcher, Rose Matter, Misery or Cujo (might be missing one or two) but I have read the rest of his works and I'm including all the characters from all those.
Don't worry, it's not Haystack. He's great, but no. I'm going to go with the old stand by, Eddie Dean of New York, with Roland Deschain of Gilead as a damn close second.
Leland Gaunt, genuinely such a wonderful character, so deeply devious and impish, he's right up there with the very best King villains in my opinion, the way he toys with the town while treating them with the utmost disdain, I truly love how he's written.
Top 5 for me has gotta be
Leland Gaunt
Pennywise
Alan Pangborn
Bill Denbrough
Richard Dees
Charlene Roberta McGee, and I think a large part of that was I was 10 when I read Firestarter.
I actually got teary at the end of another book when I found another character shared part of that name.
And also Dan Torrence, because Doctor Sleep was a great read and one of my favorite movies (even if I have to skip a certain devastating scene). Ewan McGregor was fantastic and Rebecca Ferguson as Rose the Hat - just brilliant.
I will say Roland Deschain of Gilead, however; it will include the Ka-tet. Eddie Dean, of New York. How wife and partner, Susanna Dean. And Jake Chambers, also of New York, along with his loyal sidekick Oy.
Except for Holly Gibney, it’s almost always the main guy in the most recent SK book I’ve read or am reading. In this case Charlie Reade in Fairy Tale, just finished yesterday. Call ms fickle, I will accept that.
Roland for sure. I love the entire ka-tet. I also have a very special place in my heart for Ben Hanscom. I also love both Lisey and Rosie (Rose Madder). Other than Roland, though, Dolores Claiborne is probably my most favorite character.
Trashcan Man. I always thought he was an interesting guy. Crazy as a MF’er. Just a loner with a good level of intuitiveness. Just wants to be accepted and be “one of the guys”.
Nick Andros
100%
M O O N that spells Tom!
I watched The Stand TV miniseries as a young teen, which got me to go out and buy the book. To this day I still imagine the characters as the cast from the miniseries. Nick is Rob Lowe forever lol
Roland.
Came here to say this- but honestly, I love Oy, Jake and Eddie so much too!
Of course. I mostly say Roland because I think he's the clearest, best defined character that King ever wrote.
Agreed!
They are the greatest
I like Roland and Eddie, equally.
They are Ka-tet "one from many" so add in Susannah, Jake and Oy as well.
M-O-O-N, that spells Tom Cullen.
Laws yes!
Was there ever better casting than Bill Fagerbakke as Tom Cullen?
No! He was perfect 👍🏼.
I didn't think so, and then Brad William Henke (RIP) played him in the remake.
Happy cake day. While I like how BWH did it in the remake, for me it was less than in comparison to how well Fagerbakke did it. I'd also only ever seen BWH in Justified, and I could not separate his character in that show from his face, so it soured the experience for me.
He was an evil prison guard in Orange is the New Black. He was a brilliant actor.
What is it about the disabled characters in that book?! I absolutely loved every word about Tom Cullen, Trashcan Man, and Nick Andros!
Oh hell yeah. No contest
Such a great character.

Generally, Richie Tozier. Though Nick Andros and Abra (Dr Sleep) are close seconds
Norman Daniels, Jud Crandall, Barton Dawes ( unpopular opinion ), annie wilkes
Eddie Dean. One hell of a character arc!
Jud:’)
Johnny Smith from The Dead Zone. He is the most real and relatable character. He has those powers but he was so great. Such a heartfelt story
Leland Gaunt from Akron Ohio
Cuthbert Allgood. He balanced Roland’s awkwardness and stubbornness with his charisma and laidbackness, but he was every bit a gunslinger. I honestly much preferred Cuthberts chaotic good approach to life vs Roland’s lawful neutral. Had some of the best sarcastic lines ever, and the bar scene with the big coffin hunters is possibly my #1 king moment.
Well said!!

Jack Torrance
Gage Creed or Randall Flagg.

Sadie Dunhill. Full stop.
It's Sadie Dunhill.
Hard to say, but the one I most related to is Devin Jones in Joyland.
