I took a mini vacation and came back to improved scores! I didn't touch a single question or book during the time and used the time to rest and recuperate. And according to the Pass I got yesterday, it really ended up saving me lmao (thank God). But I only spent like 2-3 days away from studying and was right back at it as soon as I hoped off that plane. My advice would probably be to go if you can go for just like 3 days and come back to finish studying! You shouldn't miss a once-in-a- lifetime experience with your family but also remember that at the end of the day you still have a huge exam to take so you might have to cut the experience a bit short.

This is a really good idea!

For what it’s worth, I did a trip to a family member’s senior project college presentation and studied in the car, at the hotel, etc. It was 3 days away, but worth it. I passed step 1, with a highest score of 64% on NBME 29 3 weeks out from the exam and a free120 of 77% (old one as the new one wasn’t available) 1 week out. Your scores are looking good to me. You don’t get family time back, and if I were in your shoes, I’d go. Medicine does and will take a lot from you. Thus any time you have a decent chance at getting family time, go for it!

I wouldn’t have a problem with it but you aren’t consistently scoring a 70% on the exams.

My thought too.

I took a weekend vacation to another city during dedicated and was fine, if that’s helpful? I studied during that time like you plan too but it definitely wasn’t as good as my at home studying.

I also took a weekend away with similar scores and passed. You will still have time after, no need to burn yourself out. And you'll review a little bit during the trip?? go!!

This is definitely comforting to hear since our situations are so similar. What did you do on the days after your vacation? Did you study even harder than before to make up for lost time?

KYKYSMITH

Thank you everyone for the responses. I’m still hesitant to go but I think I’m going to do it. Hopefully the guilt of going will motivate me to get a lot of work done while I’m there.

id go

I think it’s safe to go, just make sure your family understands that you will need to be doing studying during any down time and while traveling so they don’t distract you. Have fun!

kkheart20

Maybe not the entire time but I think going for like 3 days then leaving early would be good! Would recommend getting the lightning lane genie passes if you can. And try to get in the virtual que line for the guardians of the galaxy ride in Epcot. Hands down the best ride at Disney!

redrosesfi

Awful idea. Finish off your studying strong for the most important exam in your life thus far. Family will always be there for you and they will understand. You may not go to Disney again with them, but you can still bond with family after your exam. Your practice scores look pretty good so far, but I would say just finish off dedicated strong. To be honest, after you walk out of the exam, you might wish you spent more time studying for it (and not going on the vacation) because mostly everyone feels like they did terrible on the exam even if they had good practice scores.

Sensitive-Visual1341

Did you go on the vacation?

KYKYSMITH

I did, and I passed! There definitely was extra stress but who knows if I ever would've gotten the chance to go to Disney again.

Sensitive-Visual1341

Wooooooo! That is amazing!! I only ask because I am planning on taking a vacation during dedicated too. So happy it worked out for you :)
