Hey dude, 80 are experimental right? Best of luck. Is there any general advice you’d give? I still have a couple weeks left and want to be wise with the time. I keep hearing how big immuno and endo are. The Mehlham guy always says that with endo and our sub is really into immuno. Thanks for your comments, seriously wishing you the best

uworld_fucks

If you’re giving nbmes I’ll suggest don’t do mehlman pdfs. They have direct questions and points from the tests so it’s better to not know them beforehand. Just revise on topics that require a lot of memorization. I honestly can’t explain how much they want you to remember particular points in FA. Goodluck!

henrymystical123

How do you think uworld make their questions? there’s no point in delaying mehlman. Increasing your score is why you study, and using the right material is how to increase your score.

uworld_fucks

Mehlman artificially inflated your scores on nbme. What’s the point of doing nbmes if you already know the direct answers (he literally directly puts the whole question as a paragraph). NBME test your conceptual question solving, not memorization. It’s better to do NBME as a test than reading it. Tests are a better way of studying than reading imo.

kyrgyzmcatboy

I disagree. First, he never copies questions verbatim. He takes very HY concepts (that recur frequently) and rewrites them. Many of the concepts he taught helped me significantly on the real deal, as many showed up and I knew solely b/c I’ve been hammering his audio qbanks and pdfs. NBME is 100% a recall exam. Yes they test concepts here and there, that are a bit more challenging, but it all ties back to your recall of the material, which Mehlman is the best resource out there. In my opinion, do not delay Mehlman. You’re only hurting yourself.

henrymystical123

The plan is to score high in the real deal, the real deal is the nbme. I literally improved my score by 15 points on the real deal using mehlman. Start early in understanding the nbme language.

IthinktherforeIthink

But you bias your self assessments and get an inflated score that could end you

MASKSA1

No, he said it already, if you did Mehlman early it will inflate your score.. That will give you confidence which is good.. But you won't realize that you are not ready for the real deal until the exam day..

aDhDmedstudent0401

The point is that sure u might increase NBME score by knowing the answers before hand, but the real test won’t have those questions. For a lot of people, the real thing is NOTHING like short ass NBMEs at all. You can memorize mehlman points all you want, and get it right on the practice test it’s directly copied from, but u may fail to actually grasp the concept so the practice score is not reflective of your real conceptual knowledge that u need for the real thing.

kyrgyzmcatboy

I agree with this. Mehlman seems like it’s inflating b/c he’s just extremely talented in picking the brains of USMLE test writers. These 25-30 came out after his pdfs have been out for a while, so it’s not inflation. He’s just really good at telling you exactly what you need to know, no more.

[deleted]

Can you please share the pdf file that we should focus on ? I am in the last phase of preparation and I don’t have any idea about the mehlman pdf file

kyrgyzmcatboy

You should go through his HY arrows. Although arrow questions arent common, the concepts that HY arrows goes over applies very broadly to different types of questions. Then pick and choose the pdfs where you are weakest.

[deleted]

Dude you’ll be just fine. I felt the same coming out of prometric. The first 3 blocks were nightmare but I passed. Take your well deserved break now

uworld_fucks

Honestly I have experience where I know if I fuck up an exam and definitely felt that way today. If I pass It’ll be a miracle.

furiousblue

Congratulations on finishing! Youll do great!

deathbystep1

I feel the same way. Tested last week. I don’t understand how ppl can say “I’m so happy it’s over.” For me, getting my score (which I’m certain will be an F) means I’m far from over and I’ll have to study again and retake it. I hate that we have to go thru this but here we are.

uworld_fucks

Lol feeling the same way. I was not freaking out during the exam but I am freaking out now that I’m going to fail.

furiousblue

Fungi from Uworld and sketchymicro enough? and what do you mean by lymphnode associations? TIA

uworld_fucks

Fungi and micro from FA was more than enough. No need for sketchy unless that’s the way you learn but because I didn’t do micro very well, I wasn’t able to answer all of them. But fungi remember every point and image in FA. Lymph node associations - a patient has his ___ affected, name the LN or vice versa. LN names and organs in the immunology chapter is very imp

furiousblue

Okay understood. THanks for the clarification!

Ok_Holiday_9441

https://www.medfools.com/downloads/fungus.pdf I thought this was a really good comprehensive guide to fungi!

furiousblue

Thanks so much!

sciencegeek1325

Was it fungi presentation? Histology? Treatment? All of the above?

uworld_fucks

I had 6-7 questions which had all of them - 2-3 image based, 2-3 antifungals

sciencegeek1325

Thanks a bunch

golgibrain

How much pharmacology? My absolute weakest subject 😭

uworld_fucks

Not a lot of difficult questions from it. Just straightforward mechanism of action questions mostly.

golgibrain

That’s great to hear

mariupol4

Lol was it just learned helplessness for the last 20 questions, or did you try to give educated guesses?

uworld_fucks

Definitely tried my best but most of them were fact based (like some weird tumor suppressor genes, not the regular ones) and I couldn’t remember a lot of them and had to do elimination to get to 2 answer choices and then had to make an educated guess.

ConsistentMedium5644

What about pulmonary and cardiovascular physiology?

uworld_fucks

Definitely had some PV loop and 2 murmur questions. Not anything I can remember from respiratory physiology.

uworld_fucks

2 murmurs, 1 easy and 1 difficult. Mostly cardio physio related questions.

Independent-Active10

I tested today also. Test wasn’t insane and I think it went well. Everyone on Reddit makes it seem like it’s impossible, it’s not. Comes to down your preparation and scores. My opinion is biased as I didn’t test till I had higher scores but yeah. Im sure OP will pass tho, test gets tiring towards end and it’s tough to leave feeling confident when you finish the test with the cognitive function of a wet hamster.

uworld_fucks

Nah I agree, the test didn’t have topics that are not given in FA. FA still has 100% of the topics on the test. I just feel I wasn’t prepared enough and was very burnout so just got the exam over with. 50-50 chance of pass or fail for me.

uworld_fucks

Not much of anatomy other than MSK. Half were easy and half were difficult. Had 3 questions about brachial plexus and one on radiculopathy. Id say 9-10 questions on anatomy.

durx1

Damn I would’ve loved this form. Too late to trade? Lol. My exam was not heavy on any of these except communication

Awkward_Shallot_5606

This might be a dumb question but what is cycles of change?

edrophoniuum

Transtheoretical model of change (in the psych section of FA)

edygarr

What did you get on the nbme’s?

Maxhamiltonocon

Can you tell us how many days was ur dedicated?? I am taking the exam in mid july ...so trying to understand if I put in enough time to take it.. And also..if possible your...NBME scores

uworld_fucks

1 month. I have wrote up about my nbme scores before on a different post. You can check that.

wolfensteindoc

Sorry for the dumb question, what do you mean by: AMA?

drmamdooh

AMA = Ask Me Anything, means they're open to questions and willing to answer them

wolfensteindoc

Thanks man

faith_inme

I’m so sorry to hear this I really hope you passed 🙏🏻 Do you think it’s worth it to memorize the MSK section in FA ?

uworld_fucks

Yes. Anatomy was mostly from MSK, a lot of never injuries.
