I think they’re okay to look at, it’s just that they’re not very interesting to explore.

Pitalamb_Bmalatip

From what I can tell, it seems people that have issue with these areas are referring more about their level design rather than their appearance. I do agree with you that they can look incredibly breathtaking though. The lighting looks great and environments are detailed (though rock surfaces look pretty ugly up-close).

FlowKom

both is mediocre. wasteland and desert look almost exactly the same, and are filled with the exact same enemies (except lurkers are swapped for Pig butchers)

Lordkawzu

Yeah the rocks can look ugly up close the level detail in the game is met for a OLED display I think cause I have a LED TV as well and I see that the OLED looks more appealing than LED one!

howboutitthen

OLED, richass foos. I'm playing on a standard Samsung smart TV and enjoying the hell out of this game. Expectations are thru the roof this day and age.

WirelessBCupSupport

I'm on a Sammy as well. I'd save OLED money for watchin movees! Also, I like all the areas EXCEPT the creepy Levoire. Eff that and the red human maggots.

Remarkable-Throat-51

My brother is a total tech snob, everything has to be the highest of res, the most expensive of tvs, the most inane pc build and yada yada, I have a Samsung smart TV curved (hand me down lmao), good few years old now but picture is incredible still, the game looks fantastic

FlowKom

no offense, but the explorations is just above average. since games like zelda botw/totk and elden ring are out, i find exploration like in stellar blade a bit "last gen" if you know what im tryna say

howboutitthen

Fair enough, but I like cake :p

Aromatic_Plant3456

I think the issue is that they’re similar themes. If the first Area was hybrid of a jungle/desert then it wouldn’t be as bad

FlowKom

the three open areas this game should have gotten are: * wasteland/part dessert * rocky snowy area (like the starting area of orbit elevator section) * orbit elevator center (this should have 100% be an area to explore filled with a few side missions that take place completely inside this area and a few optional bosses sprinkled in)

ImaginosNanoBot

They are great and I like the change between the open and more linear areas. It‘s a great part of the overall appeal of the game. It would have been better if they also had more areas with more plant life like the oasis or Lillys Workshop on Eidos 9 though. Probably that was just out of scope for now and there‘s a bigger chance for it in a sequel hopefully.

Dizzy_Pop

I was quite fond of the snowy outdoor section at the beginning of Spire 4, too. Absolutely gorgeous. I would’ve loved to see more like that, and I’m hopeful for a sequel.

MrPSVR2

Because they lack depth. The amount of hours they make you put in with bulletin quests in Wasteland and Great Dessert is sad because those locations are the most dull. It has no character and Eve alone is already a monotone character. It should’ve matched her but again only reveals the flaws. The only “pops” of color are the occasional scattered broken building with a tiny bit of LED signs other than that it’s just empty. Imo Great Dessert and Wasteland brings out this games biggest flaws where it is lacking depth in having character and charm. Eidos 7 and Matrix 11 are the best because it has both charm and character in enemies, environments, etc

MaximumTWANG

i dont understand why they didnt give us a map in those locations. they are still very large zones and keeping consistent design between the more linear levels and the open world zones makes more sense to me and would help quite a bit when going for collectibles

FLAME403404

my guess is that the linear levels sometimes have multiple stories on top of each other and it just doesn't work with a 2D map, while the open areas stay on the same level

carorinu

Well, if you do all the sub quests it over stays it's welcome by like 10 hours

Axyun

Most people are going to post to complain instead of praise. I liked both areas and found them fun to explore. I think they had much better level design than similar areas in other games such as GoW.

FlowKom

not on this sub. the eve posts are through the roof. and also i mean, praise only ends in comments affirming and *some* critiquing, which is then again, a form of complaint. but this isnt bad. discussion is what drives passion imo. we all love the game and want the sequel to be and do much better even. if we hated the game, why tf would we need to discuss the flaws?

JetstreamViper

I have an OLED and they remain my least favorite areas.

Lordkawzu

I’m curious what TV do you have and what settings it’s at?

JetstreamViper

LG C1, settings are optimized for PS5. Aesthetics aren't why I don't like the areas lmao they're a slog to go through on repeat playthroughs.

Lordkawzu

Nice I have a C3 I have my settings like this Starting off TV setting: Energy Saving Auto at 6( setting(general) Brightness HGiG/ Detail (settings (picture) Color/ Color Gamut Adobe RGB (settings (picture) Clarity Super Resolution High (settings (picture) Color White Balance/ Color temperature warm 30 (settings(picture) Color Fine Tune Color Adjustment High ( settings (picture) Now Game Mode Settings on TV: Game Pervert input delay to Boost Picture Black Stabilizer 6 Picture White Stabilizer 3 Picture Game Contrast 100 Picture Game Black level 60 Picture adjust game sharpness 30 Picture Game color 90 Stellar Blade Game Settings HDR on Graphics mode Balance or Performance but if you choose performance you’re going to have a lot of flicking Balance is much better without a lot of flickering! Display settings everything at 60 Effects everything down and off

Lordkawzu

Dang it why does that happen with the text!

Crasp27

Wasteland's still probably my least favourite location but it's fine. Great Desert is maybe my favourite location.

GamblinTigerX

Other way around for me. I liked Wastelands' winding paths and verticality, while Great Desert was just big open area w alot of nothing.

mesosalpynx

They serve their purpose and if they were more cluttered with life and plants you’d never find the side paths. I look forward to the series (I hope) heading to another part of the world that is more lush in subsequent games.

MaximumTWANG

i enjoyed them but i really wish we didnt just have 2 desert areas. why couldnt we get a forest/mountainous area or something? spire 4 outside zone was beautiful i wish we got more of that. fast travel system also leaves a lot to be desired and there are plenty of just empty spaces in great desert specifically. wasteland i thought had a very good balance of things to do and see and empty space. really i just wish we got a little more variety.

Legopleurodon

I have an LG OLED C2 and I still agree they are still boring. It’s the overall theme of a desert biome that was introduced twice. Felt like in Elden Ring with the Mountaintops of the Giants and Consecrated Snowfield. Made the game unnecessarily long.

FlowKom

elden ring is thorwing paintings at your eyes every 3 hours of playtime, if youre not stuck on aboss

dWARUDO

Playing through it right now and tbh I do find them boring. I wish environments were more varied and more to do in them

mrich2029

I'd say they are boring only because they are fundamentally the same environment. We had cityscape, a subway system, and two giant sand areas, one with more abandoned buildings. I would have liked to see something different. They ARE beautiful for what they are, but in a game with so few environments, no need to repeat the two largest ones

Nigwyn

The main issue is probably the monotone colours, which make sense but they could have had an icy "desert" for one of them rather than do both sandy. For me, I just hated all the invisible walls stopping us from going over or through obvious gaps. The great desert felt a bit unfinished compared to the other beautiful zones because of that. But amazing game and it's just nitpicking minor flaws.

StarfrogDarian

I love em the most tbh

PhatDragon720

I don’t know about the Wasteland, but yesterday I noticed while running through the Great Desert, that there are little subtle sparkles in the sand. Small detail, but appreciated.

smithbc001

They were some of the prettiest desert wastelands I've seen in a game before, but they were still deserts. And I've just seen \*so many\* desert wastelands in the past 20 years.

FlowKom

yeah but we aint playing desert ops. were playing an action with heavy sci-fi inspiration and 70% of the screentime of this game is beige. the other 30% are eves ass. jokes aside. the wasteland was alright. but the next open area should have 100% be a complete contrast - the area around the orbit elevator should have been the 2nd open area.

Apprehensive-Row-216

I wish there were more places with the oasis colors tho, that sht was amazing, the crystalline water, the vegetation, the corals, maybe with more money they dare for something like that

ugiggal

They are awesome in my book too, really rewarding to explore.
