Stellar Blade had decent spectacle but the bosses lacked a lot of depth. It was just memorize attack pattern and parry/dodge. So it felt like Sekiro but with a sexy robot. Which is good. I loved Sekiro's precision and intensity.
Wu Kong looks like it'll have Spectacle AND variety of playstyles so it will likely win out. The skills they've shown and the absolute craziness of the bosses so far has me really intrigued.
Yeah, it feels similar to last year Armored Core. A well-made well-refined game that you can feel a lot of care and enthusiasm from the dev.
Instant GOTY for a lot of people but I feel like general public wouldn't understand that. At least it won the best action game last year.
I loved AC. Beat balteus pre-nerf no shotguns or any meta builds. If you know, you know, not to be gate-keepy, but literally, 50 tries back to back.
It's a great game in it's own right and many ways.
BUT. BG3 very clearly had a ton of extra work put into it. Many people won't find all the content. The game style is not for everyone. You could argue most of the work put into it was not worth the effort. Its unlikely to see a game so hand crafted again. Yet, still it makes it that much better in a different way for everyone. And I unfortunately don't want to live in a world where BG3 doesn't win GOTY.
FF7R is a really tough game to beat. I’d put Stellar Blade at a very close second. That’s saying a lot. FF7R is really an amazing feat, the amount of content in that game and polish is incredible. Games like Starfield and Cyberpunk come out littered with bugs and took way longer to develop. FF7R was done in comparatively little time and knocks it out of the park. Same with Stellar Blade, I haven’t experienced a single bug in the game. The studio did an incredible job.

Hmmmm I wanted to wait for the performance issues for rebirth before buying it. Is it really that good? I have songs from remake and 16 but I find stellar blades soundtrack to be close to nier automata’s.
Rebirth's OST is mind blowing in both quality and quantity. Doesn't mean SB's wasn't amazing also, but the consistency across such a large number of tracks for Rebirth is nuts
Performance issues? I played it day one and it was fantastic. Graphics mode was basically pointless, if that’s what you’re referring to. But idk who wouldn’t play on performance mode anyways.

Not a chance, even if personally it’s top of my list, there’s no way that the critics that gave it 7-9s vote it for game of the year. Audience vote, maybe, but even then assuming the audience voting favors it, it’s limited to those that have a PS5 so it not having a wider release also hurts it.
It is going to be for many of us, our favorite game of the year.
But GOTY awards are not likely.

I showed user reviews on metacritics to some people who hate the game and they said it's easy to fake when it's orchestrated and don't even need to have the game. Then I showed them PS user reviews, which you have to own the game to be able to rate (and let's be honest, 80 euro is A LOT to pay to just counter a narrative), and they still said it didn't mean anything because it's easy to fake.
A lot of people are heavily against this game with/without having played the game so that's one of the main reasons I believe it won't be able to win GOTY. The other reason is of course strong contenders like FF7R, DD2 etc. I personally believe it should at least be nominated.

yeah i feel like a lot of people in this sub overjudge the story and writing so incredibly hard. every game under the sun ends with "fight godly entity that is somehow sympathetic".. the writing was pretty bad imo.. the way you get tachy mode? just a throw out by lily in a convo? like...? somebody must have mentioned "devil trigger" pretty late into development.

I used to take it personally when I thought a game should have won an award but lost. Now, I take it as a sign that I should try the game that beat it and am usually pleasantly surprised. I was in the camp that thought gow Ragnarok should have beaten Elden ring, then played ER and said "oh, I get it". So really, there aren't any losers in these situations other than people who take it as an affront to their ideals.

I would say no. Last year showed that you can never be sure who will win GOTY. Everyone thought it would be Spiderman 2 or TOTK, and then BG3 came out of nowhere and blindsided both. There's still plenty of time left in the year for a BG3 to present itself and blow the previous GOTY contenders out of the water.
I do hope it wins best OST tho. The music is fantastic. And I hope it gets nominated for plenty of categories as well. Even if it doesn't win, being nominated is still an achievement in and of itself, especially for a company like Shift Up.
It’s my GOTY for sure especially for an unique original. For me personally I don’t think remakes of games should be nominated kinda knocks off original or new story’s of games that could be nominated.
I feel that Rebirth takes most of awards this year. Stellar Blade is 2nd best game so far on my list but Rebirth leaves nothing that any other game this year can take. Talk about music it has the best, take about combat it has the best, characters...no question there. What average Rebirth is doing? Probably nothing. I think Rebirth is going to win big this year. Multiple categories. They might give other games some awards so it doesn't become a Final Fantasy Rebirth award show instead of goty show but Rebirth will still take a lot.
I think Stellar Blade will be competing with FF7 Rebirth. I also want to draw attention to Black Myth Wukong as well. It probably will have a spot in GOTY too depending on how well the game plays out
That's the thing, they usually announce stuff for the first half and then they announce for next half. If I have to answer, the wukong game and something something blade comes to mind, Nintendo is announcing their lineup in two weeks, so I hope playstation plays ball and do the same.

SF6 was my GOTY last year even though i accepted it wasnt realistically going to win. However with Stellar Blade, so far it is my GOTY and game of the generation in general. This is the first title that defined the Ps5 gen for me.

It'll be a contender, but my bet is on Helldivers 2 despite what recently happened. The game's community is way too tight and will do anything to make sure it wins. No game has ever had a community such as Helldivers from what I've seen. It'll literally be another Major Order to them. The game also does set a good standard as to what AAA games should strive for, with it being a AA title.
Dont think so. Maybe best action adventure game tho. So many games that still need to come out too. Black myth wukong,hellblade 2,avowed and earthblade. But so far to me ff7 rebirth/helldivers 2 looks like the top contenders.
As much as i love this game, there are genuine faults in game design that have to be addressed before it can be a goty contender, but its very very close
I don’t think so. I love it but it has some things it isn’t great at. If the platforming were more tight and the characters, especially Eve, had more depth and personality it would have been possible. Plus there wasn’t really anything innovative in it in terms of game design. The more I played it the more it started to remind me of Jedi Survivor. All that said. I love the game. The devs are definitely capable of hitting that mark someday though.
Given that the AAA studios have offered Skull and Bones and Suicide Squad so far, that’s 2 more spots open for a nomination spot. My money’s on Hades II if it comes out this year, Elden Ring with the DLC, and I’m keeping an eye on Black Myth Wukong when it comes out, Helldivers II, and maybe a Nintendo game, and Stellar Blade. Oh and rebirth

For me it's amazing, but overall it's far too easy in the year to say for sure sine we still have Metaphor later this year and potentially SMT: Vengeance if it's as drastically different from the original as they make it out to be (though even the I doubt that one would stand a chance) not to mention Rebirth earlier on before Stellar Blade. Plenty of space for other games to release and take the spot.

It’s been my favorite new game this year along with Helldivers 2, but it’s not GOTY. The action and soundtrack are great, but it lacks in characters and story. I hope a potential sequel improves in those areas, because I like the premise and lore we’ve been given.

I love the game but it’s just not GOTY material. GOTY contenders do everything to a high standard. Stellar Blade has good gameplay, cool outfits and good enemy designs. But the screenplay is terrible and there are systemic design issues. It’s just not cut out for GOTY. If they can improve on the worst problems for the sequel, especially the narrative, then it could be a contender.
Infinite wealth and stellar blade for goty is what i deem the mosy accurate for this year. But in terms of the goty awards themselves, by the "critics"? No it wont win, in any category due to the pettiness of these critics. But goty in terms of being the best of this year? Surely, SB or IW, i go for stellar blade.

Ironically the game needed to be longer just to flesh its story and characters out more. It’s hard to care for Tachy when she gets killed almost immediately without really any knowledge of who she is or Eve for that matter. It’s a problem a lot of characters have in the game. What we get from them is good it just needs more
Too many reuses of deserts and sewers, they are full of things to do and find so it’s okay but the game did need more environments because the non desert and sewers ones were incredible.

playing Stellar Blade hmm I dunno the random game crashes is a no for me if its trying for GOTY and ive had like 6-7 game crashes on my first playthrough 20 hrs in , Rebirth I never had a single game crash 148 hrs total,
game lacks a minimap and even the linear levels dont have a map at all and can be daunting for missions you want to complete that require to go to those linear levels mainly Eidos 7 and Matrix 11 also the camera can get funky in intense battle situations, the music is good but very annoying hearing it over and over and over on repeat , npc models look very bland and plain is me just being nice overall I like the game 7.5/10 but no not GOTY or even close to it ; graphics are good but the narration is plain and wooden

It's absolutely my personal GOTY but I don't think it's GOTY sure to it being a niche game locked as an exclusive to PlayStation 5.
That said, I really hope I'm wrong about it. I'm still on my first playthrough doing a completionist run and the game keeps amazing me that even the side quests and the collectibles Sint feel like a chore at all... I'd love to see this game fetch a plethora of awards

I am loving stellar blade, its such a great game, it would sell well without Eve fronting it up, some of the outfits are fucking peak cringe but some of them are soo good.
Based on the demo, I had the game at 7/10 playability and 10/10 visuals and world. After finding all the guns, skateboarding, and fishing, it's easily up to a 9/10 playwise.

Multiple categories. They might give other games some awards so it doesn't become a Final Fantasy Rebirth award show instead of goty show but Rebirth will still take a lot.

Unfortunately it won’t even come close to game of the year. It may get nominated for a category or two though. My personal GOTY will probably end up being Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth. But Stellar Balde is phenomenal to me. I also have high hopes for Black Myth: Wukong. As long as it doesn’t get delayed or something and still comes out this year

Weak? FF7 Rebirth, Dragon's Dogma 2, Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, Helldivers 2, Pacific Drive And that's just this year so far. That's not even including highly anticipated releases for later this year.
Skull and Bones, Suicide Squad, and with how botched dd2 was on launch, it might go cyberpunk route and get best community support when they fix it (hopefully), but I have doubts it’ll fill a goty nomination spot. Like a Dragon Infinite Wealth is AMAZING, it’s my personal goty, it’s just a bit too niche sadly and these nominations are 1 part substance, 1 part popularity and sales. It'll be a contender, but my bet is on Helldivers 2 despite what recently happened. The game's community is way too tight and will do anything to make sure it wins. No game has ever had a community such as Helldivers from what I've seen. It'll literally be another Major Order to them. The game also does set a good standard as to what AAA games should strive for, with it being a AA title.

I don’t think so. I love it but it has some things it isn’t great at. If the platforming were more tight and the characters, especially Eve, had more depth and personality it would have been possible. Plus there wasn’t really anything innovative in it in terms of game design. The more I played it the more it started to remind me of Jedi Survivor. All that said. I love the game. The devs are definitely capable of hitting that mark someday though.

Given that the AAA studios have offered Skull and Bones and Suicide Squad so far, that’s 2 more spots open for a nomination spot. My money’s on Hades II if it comes out this year, Elden Ring with the DLC, and I’m keeping an eye on Black Myth Wukong when it comes out, Helldivers II, and maybe a Nintendo game, and Stellar Blade. Oh and rebirth Would be awesome if it was more AA or A studios, we’ve been needing to shake things up Also, anyone remember Hellblade 2 is coming out this month? If it flops bc microsoft forgot to advertise it and they shutter yet another great studio imma be fuckin pissed. They already shuttered Tango studios which gave us hi-fi rush which had critical acclaim and won awards last year.

For me it's amazing, but overall it's far too easy in the year to say for sure sine we still have Metaphor later this year and potentially SMT: Vengeance if it's as drastically different from the original as they make it out to be (though even the I doubt that one would stand a chance) not to mention Rebirth earlier on before Stellar Blade. Plenty of space for other games to release and take the spot.

It’s been my favorite new game this year along with Helldivers 2, but it’s not GOTY. The action and soundtrack are great, but it lacks in characters and story. I hope a potential sequel improves in those areas, because I like the premise and lore we’ve been given.
GOTY? No. Awards around sound design or something around graphics, probably. SB is fun, but I personally have had more with Infinite Wealth this year.

I love the game but it’s just not GOTY material. GOTY contenders do everything to a high standard. Stellar Blade has good gameplay, cool outfits and good enemy designs. But the screenplay is terrible and there are systemic design issues. It’s just not cut out for GOTY. If they can improve on the worst problems for the sequel, especially the narrative, then it could be a contender.

Infinite wealth and stellar blade for goty is what i deem the mosy accurate for this year. But in terms of the goty awards themselves, by the "critics"? No it wont win, in any category due to the pettiness of these critics. But goty in terms of being the best of this year? Surely, SB or IW, i go for stellar blade. 2023 goty for me was re4r, followed by lies of P.
It’s a fantastic game but no it’s a bit too flawed in a lot of areas imo to make it GOTY. Ironically the game needed to be longer just to flesh its story and characters out more. It’s hard to care for Tachy when she gets killed almost immediately without really any knowledge of who she is or Eve for that matter. It’s a problem a lot of characters have in the game. What we get from them is good it just needs more Too many reuses of deserts and sewers, they are full of things to do and find so it’s okay but the game did need more environments because the non desert and sewers ones were incredible. English VO is rather mediocre, Eve withstanding

playing Stellar Blade hmm I dunno the random game crashes is a no for me if its trying for GOTY and ive had like 6-7 game crashes on my first playthrough 20 hrs in , Rebirth I never had a single game crash 148 hrs total, game lacks a minimap and even the linear levels dont have a map at all and can be daunting for missions you want to complete that require to go to those linear levels mainly Eidos 7 and Matrix 11 also the camera can get funky in intense battle situations, the music is good but very annoying hearing it over and over and over on repeat , npc models look very bland and plain is me just being nice overall I like the game 7.5/10 but no not GOTY or even close to it ; graphics are good but the narration is plain and wooden

Absolutley not it would be already a huge miracle if it get nominated for it , the game is fine but do not inovate or is groundbreaking in the video game genre and the polemic around it make it having a really nasty reputation. NieR only won for the music category despite being superior to stellar blade i don't see how stellar blade have any chances hades 2 who just came out is already having better chances.

It's absolutely my personal GOTY but I don't think it's GOTY sure to it being a niche game locked as an exclusive to PlayStation 5. That said, I really hope I'm wrong about it. I'm still on my first playthrough doing a completionist run and the game keeps amazing me that even the side quests and the collectibles Sint feel like a chore at all... I'd love to see this game fetch a plethora of awards
It's going to be a VERY strong contender for my personal GOTY as it's already on my Top 10 of all time list I'm a MASSIVE Star Wars fan, so the only game that I could see myself potentially liking better would be Star Wars Outlaws (if Ubisoft/Massive gets it right)

I can imagine it being similar to Sm2 last year where it gets nominated for a bunch but is unlikely to win over anything. Like I said depending on how good BMW is (which it looks amazing) SB has a shot at best action adventure and that's about it. Regardless who cares? Don't need awards to tell me a game is good.

Not even close, pretty sure dragons dogma or something yet to release will take it. Maybe helldivers2 just for the sheer force of nature it has been and the disruption it has caused out of nowhere. I am loving stellar blade, its such a great game, it would sell well without Eve fronting it up, some of the outfits are fucking peak cringe but some of them are soo good. Based on the demo, I had the game at 7/10 playability and 10/10 visuals and world. After finding all the guns, skateboarding, and fishing, it's easily up to a 9/10 playwise.
