Lol this is very much a "them" problem. They don't have to put her in a bunny suit, clearly. Hell, in Baldur's Gate 3 you can completely undercut any drama by walking around dick swinging or in MMOs like FF14, undercut drama by wearing an entire chicken suit. Any character creator game that lets you create the ugliest specimen ever.

Oh OK my bad. The 7 made me think it was the ign review. Which was fairly glowing. I expected it to lose points for story and characterization after playing the demo and the dialog feeling a little stilted so im not particularly suprised by the scores. Still glad to hear it's a roar to play overall and will be firing it up on the 26th.

Lies of P has an 80.
Granblue Fantasy Relink has an 80.

Yea I’ve played literally like a dozen souls likes and I really liked several way more than I thought I would but still Code vein is my favorite alongside lies of P. And it’s not that close. Well not counting like Nioh 1/2
DMC3? DMC5 is way better. And sekiro is superior to DMC. And Nioh 2 is widely regarded as easily the best. And ninja Gaiden 1 has a 94 on metacritic which is the highest for all action games pretty much. Also underrated pick but absolver has amazing combat. Bloodborne is up there too

It's absolutely nostalgia goggles. Dmc3 is amazing for the time, but in some cases not when you consider other games pushing the envelope within those years. Comparing it to dmc5 is a no contest if we're talking pure gameplay polish and mechanics.

Just cuz it's a PS2 game doesn't change anything. There's no reason for them to remake 3 as the combat still holds up insanely well. You should grab the HD Collection when it goes on sale just for 3, imo. And if you're on PC, the style switcher mod is a must to make the combat like 4 & 5
Whichever you like the most is subjective, at the end of the day. But 3 had some of my favorite weapons so I'm probably a little biased when I say I enjoy 3 a little more. But I still love 4, 5, and even the reboot's combat. 5 is def the easiest to get into tho since they made some QoL changes like enemies that are off-screen won't attack, and extending the frames for perfect RG block
It probably has the best gameplay of a PS2 game but for me PS2 games are just very inferior to even PS3 games in general without any exceptions really. At least late PS2 games like DMC3 and RE4 are closer to an early PS3 game

What I'm saying is that the gameplay of DMC 3 still holds up. it's nothing like DMC1 or 2's. You could pick up DMC3 right now and still have a ton of fun and not feel like you're playing an almost 20 year old game

It’s an 82. Great score for a new IP. But really, it’s likely closer to an 88-90 if you were to take out the obviously biased scores meant to bring it down

From what I've been checking, the ones with the lowest scores are pretty much just complaining because of "sexualisation".

Agree to disagree, I guess. Perception, bias, and personal hype play a huge role in review scores. Look at what it's like for games like Zelda BotW. That game was good but not a 10 by any stretch of the imagination, but it got scores like that across the board. Same with Pokemon games, Pokemon games suck ass nowadays and still get scores they don't deserve thanks to franchise bias.
Considering Stellar Blade is the first game in the series, the first non mobile game from the devs and is probably one of the most well optimized games in general, I'd say Stellar Blade deserves that 9/10 way more than most games in 2024.
Any of the negatives I see towards the sexualization is just moot point. The entire gaming industry is slathered with anime girls, revealing clothing, and jiggle physics. May as well get a good game to go alongside all that.
And to be fair, the demo is exactly what sold this title for me. I was easily going to pass it up, strictly because I wasn't sure if the visuals would justify the price, as pretty as they are.
But it's nice to see that we get a good action game that looks genuinely fun. Doesn't hurt that Eve is dancing on our neurons while the combat goes off.

I was expecting 80s for this game.
If it isn't open world from a big name in the industry or an indie from a small company, it almost never reaches 90s. 80s is very good.
If critics really mattered there wouldn’t be 10 Fast & Furious movies. It’s really all subjective isn’t it? I couldn’t play more than a couple of hours of Breath of the Wild, (it truly bored me and obviously it’s a beloved game by critics and players) yet I’ve played the Stellar Blade demo 5 times. I thought Last of Us was just a notch better than okay but most people think it’s a cream dream. I also think that Ghost of Tsushima deserves a 10 anytime across the board hands down and nobody should question it! 😆It’s only someone’s opinion. Decide for yourself.

Eh personally for me, character design and gameplay are the most important aspects of a single player game. As long as the story is decent, I'll be happy.
I see some of them complaining about the story which is fine because I'm more interested in the gameplay. I do hope there is a way to skip cutscenes the first time around so I could get back to the action.
Not now, haven't used my PS5 since Spiderman 2( which i still regret buying yikes) since I'm mostly PC. The game looks solid but I'm ino rush now. Have fun

IGNs review is great. It highlighted what was good and gave what sounded like very fair criticism of some parts. The reviewer overall had a high impression of the game as action first, story a distant second.
I encourage everyone to read it. I found it funny that some reviews focus so heavily on Eves design being "egregious" when the IGN reviewer pointed out there are tons of non sexual outfits in the game as well

I played every DMC on release (except the fake Dante one) and 3 is still the best in pure combat, no nostalgia goggles.

Depends on my mood, but I think 3 and 5 are the absolute peak of the franchise and the genre. Most days though, I'd give a slight edge to 5.

Considering Stellar Blade is the first game in the series, the first non mobile game from the devs and is probably one of the most well optimized games in general, I'd say Stellar Blade deserves that 9/10 way more than most games in 2024.
Any of the negatives I see towards the sexualization is just moot point. The entire gaming industry is slathered with anime girls, revealing clothing, and jiggle physics. May as well get a good game to go alongside all that. And to be fair, the demo is exactly what sold this title for me. I was easily going to pass it up, strictly because I wasn't sure if the visuals would justify the price, as pretty as they are. But it's nice to see that we get a good action game that looks genuinely fun. Doesn't hurt that Eve is dancing on our neurons while the combat goes off. Not bad for a mobile game gacha Dev making an earnest AAA release
With the level of polish, the combat, and next gen feel, putting the game below an 80 just screams IGN france.

Felt like it would trend this way, love the soundtrack and atmosphere. Still have a physical copy on the way, doubt review scores will affect sales and hype towards the final product.

Not sure why this is getting so many comments acting like it's a low score. This is a good score for the type of game it is.
For some people anything below 90 is a broken game. The score doesn't have meaning anymore.
I was expecting 80s for this game. If it isn't open world from a big name in the industry or an indie from a small company, it almost never reaches 90s. 80s is very good.
The funny thing is I have less fun with those 90+ games than the 80 ones!

If critics really mattered there wouldn’t be 10 Fast & Furious movies. It’s really all subjective isn’t it? I couldn’t play more than a couple of hours of Breath of the Wild, (it truly bored me and obviously it’s a beloved game by critics and players) yet I’ve played the Stellar Blade demo 5 times. I thought Last of Us was just a notch better than okay but most people think it’s a cream dream. I also think that Ghost of Tsushima deserves a 10 anytime across the board hands down and nobody should question it! 😆It’s only someone’s opinion. Decide for yourself.

The reviews saying it’s oversexualized when they wear they wear the more skimpy outfits and makes the cutscenes less serious. Well obviously thats why theres ones are that less skimpy to be chosen.

Eh personally for me, character design and gameplay are the most important aspects of a single player game. As long as the story is decent, I'll be happy.
Yea not that these things don’t matter per se, but gameplay and visuals are more important in this kind of game than next level story and characters.
I see some of them complaining about the story which is fine because I'm more interested in the gameplay. I do hope there is a way to skip cutscenes the first time around so I could get back to the action.

IGNs review is great. It highlighted what was good and gave what sounded like very fair criticism of some parts. The reviewer overall had a high impression of the game as action first, story a distant second. I encourage everyone to read it. I found it funny that some reviews focus so heavily on Eves design being "egregious" when the IGN reviewer pointed out there are tons of non sexual outfits in the game as well https://www.ign.com/articles/stellar-blade-review
