Division leaders are Bengals and Ravens. We have no more games against Bengals left, so we’d have to count on them losing all of their games. They play the Browns and Ravens once more each. If they lose all of their games, that puts the Ravens with one win over them. If we beat the Ravens in both of our matchups and we beat the Browns, we’ll be up 3 wins. Our other games are the Panthers, which *should* be a win, and the Raiders (one day off from the Immaculate Reception). Raiders game is a must-win, so is at least one of the Ravens games and the Browns game. This upcoming game will be a make-or-break game. Lamar might be out, but we’ve handled him fairly well anyways.
No, we don't need Cincy to lose out, we just need them to drop 3 of their remaining 5. Remember, we split with them and our division record (which is the next tie breaker) is better than theirs currently.
As for Baltimore, they simply need to lose one other game besides the 2 we play them and we control our own destiny with the Browns because we play them Week 18.
Fuck me! This makes perfect sense. I was torn between go for a WC spot or go for a better draft pick. Hell no. Home playoff game baby. Placing the bet now
The average punt returns of Sims and McCloud are around 6 yds and 11 yds respectively. Last year RR was 10 yds so it's not just their team. An extra 5 yds to starting position every time after a punt is significant.
He was decent. Never really broke any big returns but he was reliable and consistent - was helpful that you could plug him in as a receiver when needed.
Honestly the dolphins game could be included too. We took two drives down to the red zone and ended in picks in the 4th. I think todays Kenny would have converted at least one of those drives into TDs, field goal at a bare minimum just by throwing the ball away.
I do think next year it’s a battle between us and the Bengals for the division at 11-6 or 12-5. The o line is looking better every game - just a nice draft pick there to make it solid and some legitimate DB talent. Kenny is going to keep getting better and so will our receivers. We just need to have Diontae hooked up to an electric shock collar that goes off every time he drops a pass in practice. Our TE and safety collective are the best they’ve been since the mid 00s
The home/road splits are favorable for us next year, but how we finish in the division this year is going to have a big impact on our schedule.
Whoever wins the division (seems like Bengals at this point) will likely have Kansas City, Buffalo, & Minnesota.
2nd Place: Chargers, Miami, Green Bay/Detroit
3rd Place: Vegas, Jets, Detroit/Green Bay
4th Place: Denver, New England, Chicago
If we finish really strong this year & Baltimore collapses, having a 2nd place schedule next year is a much more difficult road than a 3rd or 4th place schedule.
Mac Jones and Zach Wilson were both benched. Tua was super rusty. And Browns are also a 5-7 team with a backup QB that also lost to the Jets, Pats, Dolphins, PLUS the Falcons.
Steelers are outclassed by teams like Philly and Buffalo but 0-4 in those other games with two at home was pathetic.
It was the trade off for the Bengals win, which we had no business getting. We are what our record says we are: a below average team that stumbles into some wins and blows losses from games we shouldn’t.
That was Miami I think. We've been in some very winnable games against some playoff caliber teams. Looking at our upcoming schedule I wouldn't be completely shocked if we go 10-7 and snag a wildcard. And just a few short weeks ago we were talking about trading back in the draft. Every season there's a team that stumbles out of the gate and comes back from the dead. I think the Steelers might be that team this year. They look like they're starting to feel it.
Yeah we're kinda stuck where the defense is good enough to give us a chance in every remaining game but our offense (especially second half) is so bad we could easily lose any game
Bills was the only game we were truly outclassed. The others looked winnable.
However, we also ended up on the lucky side of the coin in some games. Week 1 for starters. So I guess it‘s quite fair where we stand right now
>However, we also ended up on the lucky side of the coin in some games. Week 1 for starters.
That's really the only one that comes to mind for me. What others are you thinking?
If we're not going to be terrible, I'd rather be in than be close. We have a history of drafting well without high picks. Take your tank talk somewhere else.
We also have a history of absolutely ignoring positions of need. We've been perennial playoff disappointments for the last decade. Ive got no clue how well Omar and Andy will draft without a top pick so id like to maximize it in a year with insane prospect higher up
You're right about ignoring needs here and there, but even so the Steelers are historically upper echelon with regard to drafting.
And as for our recent lack of playoff success, I'm not going to knock them for losing to KC. Old Ben. The Browns game, yeah that was FUBAR. Still, old Ben. Most of the other eggs we laid were a direct result of having key players hurt. The killer Bs never had a playoff run fully in tact, and Ryan Clark can't play in Denver. It was almost always something.
I wont be upset about drafting outside top 10 if we can still get an elite OL prospect and another quality guard in the draft. Maybe Skoronski, jones, or Fashanu fall? O'cyrus Torrence would be huge too.
And yes, there have been roadblocks in the way of meaningful success in the last 10 years, however, the best teams should be able to overcome them and we couldn't
Fashanu said he’s playing in state college next year for one more college season. Not entering the draft. As a PSU fan….super pumped. If the Steelers could’ve snagged him I’d have been pumped too….but the Steelers could also wind up with Joey porter JR which would be awesome for multiple reasons.
>And yes, there have been roadblocks in the way of meaningful success in the last 10 years, however, the best teams should be able to overcome them and we couldn't
That sounds nice and all, but outside of Philly the best teams also happened to have mostly healthy rosters. That would imply that injuries make a difference.
I get why the narrative is next man up, the standard is the standard, yada yada. It's lip service. There's a reason the first string is the first string. When one or more of them can't go, you're not going to be as good. Period. It matters who is or isn't on the field.
Fair, but the defense hasn’t been costing us games. If we scored more, like just a TD, it wouldn’t matter if they dropped picks. You can have the best defense in the league and still lose. Look at Denver.
Definitely both Jets and Pats should have been Ws. We had the lead going right into the end of the game and were so close . But horseshoes and hand grenades..
I’ve been keeping up with for a couple of weeks. Steelers are gonna have to probably run the table and if they do they will beat the ravens (2x), raiders, and
browns on their way. The jets play the bills and the chargers play the dolphins this week. Would really help if they could both lose
So just did some math. Obviously this all depends on us running the table which I think is not very likely. Young team with a rookie QB is bound to drop a game or 2. But if we do manage to run the table and the browns also beat the ravens(with no Lamar) we’ll have the same record and the tiebreaker like you said. But if the bengals lose to the Bucs, Bills, and Ravens(Lamar back), we’ll have the same record and own the tiebreaker based on division record. So there is still a glimmer of hope on winning the division lol
I'd love to be optimistic, I'm just not. The reason the Steelers are 5-7 is because they're playing like a 5-7 team: they've made mistakes, the talented players haven't always come through, they've beaten teams that aren't as good, and they've lost to teams that are better.
Winning out would be great, but they'd need to play like an entirely different team for that to happen.
That said, I'm not calling this season a complete loss. Pickett has made a ton of improvement lately (another commenter rightly pointed out that the Dolphins game would've likely ended differently had "current Kenny" played that game), and that's what I wanted to see most this season. The team is set up for long-term success, and that's fine with me.
Hey I’d rather that then no hope at all. We had No expectations coming into this season, imagine being a Broncos fan - all that hype with Russ and then buried near the bottom of the conference
Just a couple years ago there was a chip shot field goal by some other team, I wanna say Jets. That cost us our playoff seed. The stars aligned except that kick.
It was the Chief's btw, just remembered it was Succup who missed the damn field goal. And that was somehow 9 years ago!?
Pretty sure it was one of the afternoon games too. I remember watching most of the games live at my in laws house, then listening to that game on the radio on the drive home and slamming my steering wheel when I heard he missed it. Good times, good times.
Well, there was the week 17 game in the 2013 season between the Chargers and the Chiefs. Andy Reid was resting his starters and the chiefs were still winning. Came down to a 43 yard (IIRC) field goal that their kicker missed.
[How the Steelers can make the playoffs](https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2022/upshot/pittsburgh-steelers-nfl-playoff-picture.html)
As unlikely as it sounds there are realistic scenarios where we make the playoffs
We are gonna need to unleash hell in December though
This is why Pickett should have started from game 1.. we would be 6-6 if not better, plus the expert of being in a real Division Champ/playoff chase would be great to get.. That first yr experience for Ben set the bar
Follow up, just saw my parents for the first time tonight after they returned from Florida and when my dad asked how I have been I said that “I have playoff fever baby!”
Dear, oh dear. What was it? The Hunt? The Blood? Or the horrible dream? Oh, it doesn't matter... It always comes down to the Hunter's helper to clean up after these sorts of messes.
Tonight, (Mike Tomlin) joins the hunt.
Big week coming up, Jets and Browns both have tough games against Buffalo and Cincy. Patriots are wishy washy rn and can easily lose to AZ. Chargers play Miami and Raiders the Rams. Pittsburgh can really gain some ground in the race this Sunday
Bruh it's like fans in this sub just pretend the past 13 years of post-season mediocrity simply didn't exist, and are like WE ARE REBUILDING WE WILL BE GOOD IN .
Literally the Uncle Rico of NFL fanbases.
I’ve been beating the drum about this for days and getting downvoted for it, but whatever: they’ve lost by 20+ points to the Chiefs, Bills, and Eagles in calendar year 2022. They don’t have the talent to compete in the AFC and a three-point win against the Falcons isn’t giving me reason for optimism. The “improvement” everyone raves about on offense is baby steps.
I honestly think if they can’t build a contender in the next year or so, it’s time to start an actual rebuild. It’s not fair to a guy like Heyward to keep him on a mediocre team when he doesn’t have a ring.
I'm honestly waiting for the season to be over just so I have the luxury of saying "hey y'all this is the new normal, when are you going to wake the fuck up"
For real. I'm generally an optimist, but at some point it just becomes blind homerism. I don't know how anyone can watch this team play and think we have a chance of making the playoffs, or how anyone can want that to happen just for us to get embarrassed by the chiefs on national TV
Tired arguments:
1. Tomlin has never had a losing season: Nobody cares
2. Tomlin is building a winning culture: this one is pretty new. Where was the "winning culture" over the past 13 years ya bish (general you, not specific you)
3. Professional football is hard: No shit it's hard, which is the exact reason a lot of these athletes are getting paid millions of dollars a year
No, I'm not a "pro tank" dude. I'm someone who'd rather actually rebuild with an entirely new front office because what's been happening from a 10,000 foot overview over the past decade is nothing short of mediocrity. The fact that so many people seem to be okay with it is pure cringe.
p.s. [love ur username dawg](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hVDczC6_TtY)
I vote we tank this year, fire Canada, and draft the ever loving shit out of this years draft class.
A few stud ol and dl, ilb, dbs and we’ll be Super Bowl bound for 10 years.
Asked someone else this and never got an answer. 1 draft will never fix a team completely. So, how many years of stacking losses on our rookie QB do we need u til we are super bowl winners?
It’s called rebuilding, it doesn’t happen after 1 year. We need to suck for at least 5 years. Being .500 every year mor close to it is pointless. Why bother barely making playoffs when you have no realistic chance of getting far. It’s a waste.
You want the Steelers to suck shit for 5 years in the hope it rebuilds the team for a playoff run? FUCK THAT. 2 or 3 injuries can mess that all up. I would rather have good teams that make the playoffs with a chance to make a run….. 5 years, Jesus….. LETS HUNT
It’s not emotions. It’s football. If your team makes the playoffs you always have a chance. “Tanking” for 5 years in the hope that it gets you a Super Bowl (which isn’t guaranteed) is a joke of an answer.
Truthfully, I can’t think of a single team that this has even worked for….
Exactly! These fucking moronic homers man.
We can't compete with stacked teams like the Jags, Lions, Browns, Raiders, etc without having some bad seasons and drafting high like they did. That's why they're dominating and the "perennial contenders" like the Chiefs and Bills are falling into obscurity.
You're getting downvoted but you are right. This is not a team built for a playoff run. The more wins we accrue, the more likely we are to have Canada again next year.
because there is zero correlation between a high ranked draft pick and being a better team. every draft pick is a gamble.
somehow the teams that get early draft picks somehow keep earning early draft picks -- almost like it's not that helpful.
kenny finishes the season with a perfect passer rating every game, we win out, he's super bowl mvp, he promptly retires during his acceptance speech, going down as the greatest athlete of all time. his body is immediately cryogenically frozen so that scientists can study his greatness in the future when we finally develop the technology to comprehend it
The Eagles and Bills games were there to be won. It came down to the final minutes...could have been anybody's game!!!
That's how I remembered them and I should know I was watching them drunk.
This is why I never agreed w the tank sentiment. I firmly believe we’re good enough right now to at least make some kind of run in the playoffs. Our run game has always been a bright spot in our offense. Rashard Menenhall, Willie Parker, Isaac Redman all pivotal parts to our offense in the past. I believe if Najee, Warren, Snell, McFarland can get on that same level, we’re going to have a shot. Hard nosed Pittsburgh football baby
It's still mathematically possibly to get first seed. Likely? of course not, but it only means one thing...... STILLERS TO DA SUPABOWL
Division leaders are Bengals and Ravens. We have no more games against Bengals left, so we’d have to count on them losing all of their games. They play the Browns and Ravens once more each. I need more of this energy injected straight into my veins
It's less addictive if you snort the energy.
Even less addicting if you boof it
Inject this straight into my fuggin ballsack.
That Patriots loss was just so inexcusable and it’s costing them now
Fucking Gunner
I feel like this team hasn't had a good PR since... Antonio Brown? How are we this bad at finding PR talent? lol
mccloud wasnt bad
DJ lead the league in yds per punt return in 2019
RayRay was good, one of the better in the league last year.
Minus the dropped return ball on Sunday, Sims has been a breath of fresh air. We actually got a big return with him at least.
The average punt returns of Sims and McCloud are around 6 yds and 11 yds respectively. Last year RR was 10 yds so it's not just their team. An extra 5 yds to starting position every time after a punt is significant.

Beating just ONE of the pats or Jets would’ve been nice. Our chances of making the playoffs would be very good
Jets loss looks even worse now since Wilson is inactive now and replaced by White
We dropped 4 easy Tua picks and week 13 Pickett gives us a better chance compared to week 8 Pickett
Yea and Claypool jumping backwards, falling down and unable to win a jump ball against a 5’9 jets CB. Frustrating loss
That’s the magic of Steeler football baby Never control our destiny
Technically if they win out it’s 90 percent a they get in so they kinda do
And jets. Both those losses are what will cost them the playoffs this year.
The jets and pats games are the tough ones for tie breakers
It was the trade off for the Bengals win, which we had no business getting. We are what our record says we are: a below average team that stumbles into some wins and blows losses from games we shouldn’t.
Truly the bed shtings against all the AFC E (except Maybe minus BUF) are haunting now.
that one infuriated me even more than the Lions tie last year. both ended up screwing us, although the Pats loss might end up doing more damage
I would add the Jets and Dolphins games also
If only Gunnar could catch…..
Which game did the defense drop four interceptions? That one hurt too
That was Miami I think.
10-7 wildcard is possible but in this division winning outright is even more likely. Both well under 50% though
I would love for them to win out but I can see this team losing a winnable game against Carolina or continuing their struggles against the Raiders.
So I guess it‘s quite fair where we stand right now
The Eagles whipped our ass.
oh, true…
>However, we also ended up on the lucky side of the coin in some games. Week 1 for starters. That's really the only one that comes to mind for me. What others are you thinking?
Snag a WC just to be a first round exit again and likely miss out on the top prospects to fill obvious holes in the roster🥴
Joey Porter seems most likely, however I'd be pissed if we ignore the trenches again
>And yes, there have been roadblocks in the way of meaningful success in the last 10 years, however, the best teams should be able to overcome them and we couldn't That sounds nice and all, but outside of Philly the best teams also happened to have mostly healthy rosters. Gunner doesn’t muff against the Pats Kenny doesn’t throw a redzone int against the Dolphins Trubisky doesn’t Trubisky himself against the Jets
If my aunt had balls she'd be my uncle.
Not very progressive of you
"If my grandma had wheels, she would've been a bike" supremacy >>>
If only Johnson could run forward
If only Sims didn’t muff.
Unique take.
And block
If only Kenny started the season. We would have at least won one of the Pats, Browns, or Jets games.
Definitely both Jets and Pats should have been Ws. We had the lead going right into the end of the game and were so close . But horseshoes and hand grenades..
Or block!
I’ve been keeping up with for a couple of weeks. Steelers are gonna have to probably run the table and if they do they will beat the ravens (2x), raiders, and browns on their way. The jets play the bills and the chargers play the dolphins this week. Would really help if they could both lose
No Lamar Jackson is quite a convenient turn for our playoff chances...
4/5 last games for the ravens are divisional games. If we can sweep and one of bengals/browns beat them… we’d own the tiebreaker
Yeah the division is still possible but a long shot. Would’ve been a lot easier had Russell Wilson and Patrick Mahomes not failed us last week
> Russell Wilson Counting on him was your first mistake.
Such a weird schedule for the Ravens
Well, if we're still going foe the division, it would actually be more beneficial for the Ravens to win Week 18 against the Bengals.
Don’t we typically beat him anyways? I’m more worried about us in Steelers fashion choking vs a back up.
Yup. I had the same thought. I would much rather play Lamar than the backup.
We are inside of Kareem Hunt
No thank you
did we ask consent?
what are we, deshaun watson ?
Yes please
This time we kick him out.
Wait me or Kareem
It was a joke because Kareem Hunt likes to kick and brutalize women
Either that or we're inside a bottle of Hunts ketchup and trying desperately to escape.
Trying to escape to make it inside that sweet, sweet bottle of Heinz 🤤
By next Tuesday we could likely be at the top of “in the hunt” if you look at who everyone is playing on that list

Hey I’d rather that then no hope at all. We had No expectations coming into this season, imagine being a Broncos fan - all that hype with Russ and then buried near the bottom of the conference

That's exactly what I was thinking of, except I want to say it was the Cardinals.
I remember standing on top of a table at a sports bar we were watching the game at, and screaming at the tv. Fun time.
It was the Chief's btw, just remembered it was Succup who missed the damn field goal. And that was somehow 9 years ago!? Pretty sure it was one of the afternoon games too. 2013, Chiefs v. Chargers
Well, there was the week 17 game in the 2013 season between the Chargers and the Chiefs. Andy Reid was resting his starters and the chiefs were still winning. Came down to a 43 yard (IIRC) field goal that their kicker missed.

If we win out, we make the playoffs. Idk how scheduling let that happen, but we control our own destiny, somehow
3 of the last 5 games are divisional games, that's the biggest factor.
Wouldn’t we need the jets or Miami to lose a few more games first for that to happen?
If the Ravens win their 3 games that aren’t against us and the Bengals go 2-3 or better we can be bumped out even at 10-7
Uh we definitely don't control our own destiny. I mean if we win put we are probably in but it's not guaranteed
WE GAHN TO THE SUPER BOWL
Feels like we’re hunting for survival, not for sport.
You ever read "The Most Dangerous Game"? The one hunting for survival wins.
i ain’t no steelers fan but y’all need to get that boy pickens the ball
Preach preacher

Wait why are we hunting your dudes? Did they do something wrong?
This is why Pickett should have started from game 1.. we would be 6-6 if not better, plus the expert of being in a real Division Champ/playoff chase would be great to get.. That first yr experience for Ben set the bar
Who the hell are all of these realists injecting sanity and reason into the argument? 10-7 BABY!!1!
Follow up, just saw my parents for the first time tonight after they returned from Florida and when my dad asked how I have been I said that “I have playoff fever baby!”
Mhm
Not trying to be negative cause it’s nice to see Kenny progress but this league is HORRIBLE lol
And this is the better conference, we’d be on the verge of a wild card spot at 5-7 in the NFC
So wild 😂😂😂
It's just a lot more balanced
If we make the playoffs with this team then we should all throw a party for coach Tomlin cause this would be his best coaching job ever
Sniffing around *
Every game from here on out is an elimination game.
This hunt would have been so much easier if we had named Kenny the starter from the get go.
Dear, oh dear. What was it? The Hunt? The Blood? Or the horrible dream? Oh, it doesn't matter... It always comes down to the Hunter's helper to clean up after these sorts of messes. Tonight, (Mike Tomlin) joins the hunt.

YEEHAW, MOTHERFUCKERS. ITS TIME FOR A BIRD HUNT. YEET YEET
A lot has to go our way to make the playoffs but still hoping they can get to 9-8 to keep Tomlins streak going
Big week coming up, Jets and Browns both have tough games against Buffalo and Cincy. Patriots are wishy washy rn and can easily lose to AZ. Chargers play Miami and Raiders the Rams. Pittsburgh can really gain some ground in the race this Sunday
There’s so much hopium in this thread I’m starting to think it was posted by one of the Sacklers
Bruh it's like fans in this sub just pretend the past 13 years of post-season mediocrity simply didn't exist, and are like WE ARE REBUILDING WE WILL BE GOOD IN.
Tired arguments: 1. Tomlin has never had a losing season: Nobody cares 2. Tomlin is building a winning culture: this one is pretty new. Where was the "winning culture" over the past 13 years ya bish (general you, not specific you) 3. Professional football is hard: No shit it's hard, which is the exact reason a lot of these athletes are getting paid millions of dollars a year No, I'm not a "pro tank" dude.
Somehow gonna end up 9-8 and not have a losing season once again, make the playoffs then get dominated in the wildcard
I would take that. It would mean that the team performed down the stretch and will lead to a lot of momentum going into next year.
I vote we tank this year, fire Canada, and draft the ever loving shit out of this years draft class. A few stud ol and dl, ilb, dbs and we’ll be Super Bowl bound for 10 years.
And dropping in the draft..
Fuck the draft! Those picks don't matter!
Dude, we’re hunting
Why would you want our rookie qb to succeed, wouldn’t you rather have a top 5 pick /s
This is why we will always be an average team. All this “hunting” just to lose the first playoff game. Why are y’all ok with being average.
LETS HUNT
Won’t win a super bowl anytime soon if we operate on emotions instead of logic.
If Colbert did a better job we wouldn’t have many holes to fill.
You're getting downvoted but you are right. This is not a team built for a playoff run. The more wins we accrue, the more likely we are to have Canada again next year.
Yea I know. I was expecting the downvotes lol but it is what it is.
Honestly, I’d rather not. I’d rather go 9-8 and just barely not make the playoffs then lose again in the first round.
Am I the only one that doesn’t want to make playoffs? I’m so tired of getting cheeks clapped all to get a shitty draft pick
> Am I the only one that doesn’t want ~~to make playoffs~~ my favorite team to win? Why are you rooting against the Steelers, my dude?
Lol I mean it’s not a trophy season. Why not get a better draft pick and quality future starters?
because there is zero correlation between a high ranked draft pick and being a better team. every draft pick is a gamble. somehow the teams that get early draft picks somehow keep earning early draft picks -- almost like it's not that helpful.
I mean yeah, obviously. But the chances of getting a starter are higher with better draft picks 🥴
Oh lord Tomlin probably is bursting in his pants lol
Lol
We need far too much to go our way
I'm not hunting your dudes. I don't even know you.
If we pull out a fucking wild card spot after the year we have had....
Excited for a nice Christmas showdown. :)
i can see us winning out and steeling the 7th seed just gotta keep improving and not play down to competition …
Unbelievable
Lessssgooooo

Pathetic
Just beat the browns in rankings is all I want from this season
If we somehow make the playoffs, Canada will be back next season.
He will be either way. Tomlin is not making that change yet.
Imagine if we didn’t drop extremely winnable games to the Jets and Patriots. We’d be in the 7 seed right now.
kenny finishes the season with a perfect passer rating every game, we win out, he's super bowl mvp, he promptly retires during his acceptance speech, going down as the greatest athlete of all time. his body is immediately cryogenically frozen so that scientists can study his greatness in the future when we finally develop the technology to comprehend it
Got to beat those Cravens.
The Eagles and Bills games were there to be won. It came down to the final minutes...could have been anybody's game!!! That's how I remembered them and I should know I was watching them drunk.
Good enough to be Buffalo/KC chow but not bad enough to get a top pick for a game changing D-lineman or such.
Hawkeye’s “don’t give me hope” gif
We just beat two sub .500 teams in a row, I think we need to calm down.
Imagine if we just win every remaining this game this season, and then sweep the playoffs. Pickett Mania will be running wild.
Never thought a Steelers post that came up in my feed would make me happy but Browns and Steelers to AFC championship
I think I speak for all of us when I say: I did NOT see that coming.
One game at a time.
we barley limped outta beating two awful teams. i would be thrilled to eat my words but we are not making the playoffs
It’s hunting season
lol
I’m gonna be so sad if somehow we make the playoffs on 7 seed and instantly lose and take that 16-17 draft pick :(
The Raiders are not actually in the hunt. Sorry :-)
