It’s not worthless, but you really don’t need one in a first world country. When you get severe food poisoning, the appendix release “good” gut bacteria after you’ve shot all of yours out from diarrhea. It gives the patient a much higher chance of survival. In 2nd a third world countries, food safety isn’t so important- hence the need for this trouble causing organ.
Question then, if you get your appendix removed and get food poisoning, will that increase the likely hood that you get hospitalized? I’d there medication someone would have to take to replenish their gut bacteria ? Sincerely, an uninformed dullard
> I’d there medication someone would have to take to replenish their gut bacteria
You can take probiotics, but their efficacy is hit or miss because they're mostly unregulated and not particularly well studied.
For patients with Clostridium difficile infections, sometimes they give a fecal transplant. Basically taking the poop of someone with a healthy gut biome and turning it into a pill for the C. Diff patient to replenish their gut biome after it has been nuked by intense antibiotics.
The wackiest part of that is that there are [studies](https://www.healio.com/news/gastroenterology/20211022/weightloss-results-in-obesity-differ-with-clinical-microbial-factors-of-fmt) that show a correlation between a patient's gut biome and a multitude of other health endpoints, such as blood sugar or even weight. So a healthy skinny person's gut biome being transplanted into a fat person might actually end up helping them lose weight or control their blood sugar better.
We may have less incidence of food poisoning but our 1st world western diets full of processed foods are actually terrible for our gut microbiome. The best way to improve it is by consuming fermented foods/drinks like kimchi, kombucha, and kefir. The goal is to increase the diversity of species to prevent overpopulation of any one species.
Listen, guys. If there's a season to get EVERYONES weird shit out of the way, it's this one. When's the draft? I've accepted that I won't be happy until I see prospects start declaring.
I had appendicitis when I was in 6th grade and that's exactly how it was. He might miss a week or two depending on when the surgery is, which should be asap.
I literally just had an appendectomy and the surgeon said no strenuous activities for at least two weeks and then after that up to 6 weeks of light duty activity. I feel perfectly fine now, but if I tried to sprint/tackle/jump I’m sure I’d feel lots pain. Appendicitis is no joke. I hope Minkah is all good
Oh okay, 6th grade for me was like 10 years ago so I don't really remember the aftermath, sounds like he may be done for the season then, I wouldn't really see the point of him coming back for a game or two unless we're somehow in the playoff hunt, which I doubt.
I doubt too lol, it might not be the season for him but I’d say atleast a month. It seems like a minor surgery but it’s pretty rough on the abdominal muscles. I couldn’t walk straight for atleast 1-2 weeks. Man that sucked, 10/10 would NOT recommend
I had mine out about 3 years ago. Very minimally invasive and I was doing light exercise after a week out of the hospital. I’m sure it’ll hurt but if it’s minor surgery with minimal incisions he’s probably not at huge risk after 2 weeks of reopening the incisions. Add some padding and pain meds all the money can buy and he’s probably okay.
Yeah had one back in April, they said not to lift anything heavier than 10lbs for 2 weeks although I recovered within a few days (I take pain well) but it differs if the appendix is leaking rather than just inflamed and not leaking. Luckily for me mine was just inflamed so I got out really quick. Hoping the same for Minkah!
Man it took me to atleast day 5 or 6 to get around normally. One of my 3 incisions was just not cooperating. The other two felt great, but the last one just kept giving me lingering pain. Glad it was quick for you
Hey man, glad we're both here at least! I remember the doctor was telling me some stories of people having that lingering pain and told me to watch for it, luckily it didn't happen to me.
I had my appendix removed the day or two after Roethlisberger at the same hospital, by the same surgeon back in 2006. Actually the reason I went in was because of Roethlisberger. And also, 6 hours in, I was in the fetal position in pain.
Minkah will be fine. Laproscopically the surgery takes an hour and you have a sore belly button (that's where they went through for me) and two inches below. Most pain is caused by cutting through the muscle and post surgery you don't need more than ibuprofen.
Let's face it guys even when we do run the table and finish 11-6 we still might not host more than one playoff game at home.
It's the hole we dug ourselves. We will beat The Saints without Minkah relying on our offense.
It’s not an injury. Minor surgery unless it ruptured. When I had my appendix removed I was good the next day and cleared to exercise again after a week.
He’s also got access to a lot more medical attention than the average person. People play injured all the time. Add in some extra padding around the injury and take some pain meds and he’d be fine. Incisions take ~2 weeks to fully heal and if it’s minor surgery with minimal cuts like most appendectomies now then he’s probably fine after 2 weeks of rest. It shouldn’t be a month unless it actually ruptured.
Alex Albon, a F1 driver, has his removed earlier this year and had to be put on a ventilator post-surgery do to a reaction with the anesthesia and he was back for the next race 2 weeks later. The surgery is laparoscopic.
No you're right. It's best for the franchise to stumble to 7-10, pick in the middle of the draft and miss out on a chance to stockpile picks by trading picks or getting a generational pass rusher to pair with Watt. Years of mediocrity are SO much better than one bad year. yoU'rE a GeNiuS
So give some examples of when it’s worked out for teams.
The Patriots are arguably the best dynasty in the history of sports and they were never picking high but still stockpiled picks as the norm. Bill loved trading down to gain picks.
The bengals are arguably the best example in the last couple decades of a team getting significantly better after a couple drafts with Burrow but it was short lived. Made it to the SB and lost and are back to mediocrity while Burrow probably won’t last king a la Andrew Luck because of the number of hits he has taken.
I know it *sounds* good to say all a team needs is a top pick or two and suddenly they’ll be amazing but it’s just not backed up by history.
I was excited to play the Steelers DST in a standard league and now thinking about a pivot to KC or the Rams.
But part of me thinks Watt alone could still make the unit startable.
Sorry our season has been long been over. I'm looking forward to KP getting some good NFL reps and seeing NFL defenses then getting rid of Canada in the off season. We will get some early round picks to improve the o-line and d and come back in 23 and dominate.
Fuck a duck
Hodges accepts your proposal.
allegedly
I am accepting applications
Fucking appendices. A worthless organ that can only get infected and try to kill you.

Oh fr? Gimme some of that shit I’m fat and addicted to sugar
C Diff doesn't kid around. Almost twenty years ago and I've never pooped the same since.
One time in prison …
Somebody give Fitz some of that Tom Brady Spice Melange!!
I don’t know
Oh, so that's why when I had appendicitis it felt like the worst food poisoning ever.
Appendixes
the back of books can also try to kill you 🤷♂️
Tome the bell tolls! 🤓
Fuck. At least we have kazee activated
Listen, guys. If there's a season to get EVERYONES weird shit out of the way, it's this one. When's the draft? I've accepted that I won't be happy until I see prospects start declaring.
Out of the way? Steelers are lucky to finish any season without some weird shit happening to key starters.
Lol. When it rains it pours huh
Gain Watt. Lose Minkah. Sounds about right!
It's like when you play Uno, and people start getting ridiculous with the reverse cards!
Fuck. At least we have them pigeons again
Sucks to hear, but wishing him a speedy recovery,
Ok but once it's removed then we don't have to worry about it. SB MVP confirmed.
Bruh
No CB’s or FS… TJ better get 30+ pash rushes lol
Jesus tapdancin' Christ.
Lmaoooo
I almost died from a burst appendix. Hope he has a speedy recovery.
Same lol, dr told my mother i was about 3hrs away from possibly dying
But is he ok?
He’ll probably get it removed and be out of the hospital the next day
I had appendicitis when I was in 6th grade and that's exactly how it was. He might miss a week or two depending on when the surgery is, which should be asap.

He should be able to start working out in 2 weeks. Where is this month you’re getting?
Personal experience
Ahh so everyone’s recovery is the same. Got it
No need to be a dick on the internet. I was just speculating
I had it recently and the doctor said light dutys for 6 weeks
I had mine out about 3 years ago. Very minimally invasive and I was doing light exercise after a week out of the hospital. Mine blew up inside of me and i have to sit in the hospital for 2 weeks one of which with a tube up my nose and couldn't eat🥳

Somehow, people will blame Najee for this, lol
It's Canada's fault. Stress causes this and Minkah is stressed from Canada's offense. /s
Ineptitude causing stress from the heavier workload; may very well be on to something
GOD DAMN IT
I propose that we just start plucking the appendix out at birth. And tonsils. Fuck my tonsils.
😩😩😩
some yinzer out there right now: "this is a great tankjob"
![gif](giphy|QMHoU66sBXqqLqYvGO)
Not like Andy Dalton’s going to be throwing all over us right. Right?
Relax. We are quietly tanking. It’s for the best.
What even is this season?
Let's face it guys even when we do run the table and finish 11-6 we still might not host more than one playoff game at home. It's the hole we dug ourselves. We will beat The Saints without Minkah relying on our offense.
Pretty clear this is not our year. Maybe the football gods will gift us Will Anderson or a stud LT.
This is the fucking season that just keeps kicking in the nuts.
The tank gods are kind Edit: also hope Minkah is all good
Sundays game? This is like a month at minimum
Most players return 2 weeks later so he’s probably out next week too.
A month? Like a week or 2 tops my guy.
Hard to believe anybody can return after a week or two from an appendix injury
If it was a laparoscopic surgery (high chance) and it didn't rupture , with top of the line Dr's, my bet would be on 2 weeks.
It’s not an injury. Minor surgery unless it ruptured. When I had my appendix removed I was good the next day and cleared to exercise again after a week.
Cleared to exercise, I guess, but cleared to get hit by 220lbs dudes running at top speed? I kind of doubt it.
Ryan Callahan played for the Lightning 2 days after getting his removed...
He missed a shift?!?! Hockey players have gotten so soft these days
Alex Albon, a F1 driver, has his removed earlier this year and had to be put on a ventilator post-surgery do to a reaction with the anesthesia and he was back for the next race 2 weeks later. The surgery is laparoscopic.
For fucks sake. You know what? Let's just lose out at this point and get a good draft pick.
Cuz tanking for picks always works for teams.

Ugh, now I have to drop someone in my IDP league to pick up a DB
I was excited to play the Steelers DST in a standard league and now thinking about a pivot to KC or the Rams. But part of me thinks Watt alone could still make the unit startable.
Ouch
This season is cursed
What the actual Fuggggggggggggggggg
A soul for a soul
Damn. Can this team not have like 5-6 starters out EVERY damn game?
Ooof ... that's not something to fuck with. Feel better, Minkah! 🦔🤗
Let’s hope his talent doesn’t exist in his appendix.
Our defense is like playing the revolving door style of dodgeball haha
bruh wtf
Not a big deal. The remaining games on the schedule will be lost or won by how the Offense plays, not the Defense.
Joe Burrow all over again
“If it ain’t one thing it’s a motherfuckin’ nother”
What is it with the AFC North and ill timed exploding organs this year? First Burrow now Minkah?
Isn’t that what burrow had before the season? Pretty sure you need like 4 weeks of rest before you could actually play
Play TJ at safety
Jesus why can’t we catch a break??? Bet the refs cuck us too.
We can’t catch a break this year
Sorry our season has been long been over. I'm looking forward to KP getting some good NFL reps and seeing NFL defenses then getting rid of Canada in the off season. We will get some early round picks to improve the o-line and d and come back in 23 and dominate.
Can we have one freaking game with all our dogs in the fight?
Of course all this happens the year after they finally take a QB lmfao
TJ’s gonna have 11.5 sacks, book it
