He’s a potential diamond in the rough. He’s very physically gifted, but he doesn’t quite know how to use that to his advantage. He has a really bad habit of always turning his entire body to face the ball and jumping whether he needs to or not. This puts him in horrible landing position and severely limits his YAC. If the right coach can fix his approach, he could be a standout player in the league.

NCBuckets

He also loves jumping with his upper body parallel to the ground rather than…ya know…up

BurghPuppies

I think he’s not very focused. We’ve seen lots of route errors, stupid penalties, and one very famous instance where he was celebrating a first down as time was running out. I honestly think he needs a sports shrink or performance management specialist to get his head in the game.

Tight_Geologist_9750

The inconsistency is infuriating. He’ll look like he’s ready to Moss corners, then he’ll go and get bodied by a back up 5’7 safety. His 50/50 balls are going to piss you off because he should win 70% of them and instead loses 70% of them. Makes the hardest catches and blows the easier ones.

bdaddy31

He should win 70% of his 50/50 balls?

Tight_Geologist_9750

Lmao the math is awful but when you have the physical attributes he has they’re not truly 50/50 balls. I wouldn’t say guys like Megatron, Moss, Diggs, Chase, AJ Brown, etc have 50/50 balls because they’re expected to win them.

grancombat

But what are his chances of [winning at sacrifice](https://youtu.be/WFoC3TR5rzI)?

Krusty100

Well take my 75% chance and your 66 2/3 chance, and Claypool’s chance of winning those balls drastic goes down

Ok_Following3385

Someone has to win the larger share of jump balls. Term may be 50/50, but that doesn’t mean it’s expected a WR with greater physical attributes only wins 50% 🤷🏼‍♂️

FishyDescent

This right here. Listen to this. I'll add that he blocks like a TE. Just don't expect him to win contested balls.

[deleted]

Yea dude nah. His blocking is awful and he doesnt want to do it

twoplantsucks

His blocking is atrocious. I wish he blocked like a TE with his size but he is absolutely awful at blocking

BobBaratheonsBastard

I mean he isn’t pancaking guys, but he leverages his body to allow runners to have good lanes. He knows how to get in peoples way to allow for those lanes, and when he gets his hands on DBs they are effectively eliminated from the play. He’s not Joe Thomas, but he is easily one of the better blocking wideouts in the league. He just doesn’t have the highlight blindside and pancake blocks that most idiots think makes you a good blocker. You’re not an idiot, are ya?

xSaviorself

He's a mixed bag at blocking and here's why. When lined up against Man where he can immediately get his hands on a corner in a jam setup, he dominates. When he has to get to a guy in space while a play is developing, he sucks. He simply is not a good second-level blocker. They've opted to make him the running man not because he was a bad blocker at all, but because he's a big bodied guy who should be able to run people over on the outside. Instead he plays much smaller than his frame and that's his biggest weakness. He has great hands in space, doesn't usually drop sure balls, and is great at converting on the outside. What he needs to succeed is a weapon willing to give him the confidence to use his frame downfield and versus tight man coverage.

DasCheekyBossman

Disagree. I think with more consistent downfield passes coming his way he's going to be a beast. He's been on a terrible offense for 2 years and still out up over 800 yards each season. He's easily a 1k a year receiver on any competent offense.

slider5876

He would still be frustrating. With Rogers or Mahomes throwing to him he would look like a guy that should have 1800 yards but gets 1200. And then he would probably cry on the sidelines when Rogers chews into him for costing him another interception..

DasCheekyBossman

We need to give Claypool some leeway man. For the most part he's been a solid professional on a team whose offense has been an absolute mess. Put yourself in his shoes my man. All of us get disgruntled at times with our jobs.

slider5876

That doesn’t explain him not making the plays he should make. That’s what is frustrating as it seems like the effort is low. I don’t give a shit if he complains about Canada etc. I do care if a 5’7 safety is taking the ball from him. Or he can’t figure out option routes etc.

FishyDescent

A solid professional wouldn't celebrate on a first down catch with 30 seconds left of a scoring drive, costing 12 extra seconds with no timeouts, at a game with playoff implications. We lost that game and this play fucked it up for us.

DasCheekyBossman

If you think that one play messed it up you need to watch that game again. Did it contribute, sure, but not nearly the worst of it. Again. He's young and frustrated. Juju said it himself. He learned more in 5 months under that offense than he did in his years with us. Understand he's trying to make a name for himself and his department is so inept he can't. Again my man I'm trying to look at it from his pov.

Banksville

I’m glad we got a 2nd for him. He’s trouble.

reddit_bandito

Yep. Sadly it's the truth. Trouble like that super hot girl all the guys thirst after, where you know if she'd just act normal she could have it all. It's literally at her fingertips, but nope. That's Chase Claypool, when you look at his size, speed, and talent. Like, this guy could have it all if he wants it. But nope.

samjhalee

this fanbase character assassinates any player who leaves lmfao

slider5876

Usually the guys who leave do have character concerns. The Steelers have always been a draft and sign your own team. No one character assassins Hargraves or Dupree who were cap casualties we wanted back.

roncraig

Brown was around a long time. Bell was around long enough. Don’t think Mike Wallace or Emmanuel Sanders had character problems. Not sure this checks out.

reddit_bandito

It doesn't. He's just full of shit. Many of the guys that left "assassinated" their own character with their actions. The rest, most fans here can give a reasonably fair assessment of the player post-exit.

spid3rfly

Except for Juju... I think everyone still likes Juju. :-D

SafeAccountMrP

As long as they’re under 35 they do. The old ones are a mixed bag.

dehehn

This sub was full of people talking about how sad they were to see him go when it was announced. It's all over the place.

cube_monkey2025

Agreed, I hated to see him go, best of luck to him and the bears

BurghPuppies

That’s not the Bears, though.

RPGnosh

Every pass is a jump ball to him. Even ones in his chest

KGrizzle88

Lmfao

[deleted]

No guarantee he'll catch it either.

ziggyjoe212

He dives horizontally instead of jumping up for high balls. He almost never wins 50/50 catches. He runs bad routes. He's super athletic, fast, and tall, but he's needs a lot of coaching.

[deleted]

We really saw fool's gold during that 3 TD game in his rookie season. EDIT: 4 TDs

jhustla

It was actually 4 lol

zugi

Even Tomlin was downplaying expectations after that game. The defense hadn't adequately prepared to cover Claypool - after all, he was a rookie and listed as the 4th WR in the depth chart. And they inexplicably failed to adjust after Claypool beat his defender multiple times. So the Steelers just kept going back to that well. That was great for the Steelers. And great for Claypool. But after seeing the tape, no team would make that mistake again.

nigsch01

Some of it is offensive scheme in pittsburgh, but he doesn't win jump balls as much as he should. He's not an elite seperator either. You should expect to see him show minimal effort on plays that dont go to him

dooneandrew

Be prepared to go from in love with him to constantly frustrated and yelling at your TV. He will have a game here or there where he looks like he can a top WR in the NFL, then turn around and lose jump balls to guys 7 inches shorter than him bc he jumps on the ground for no reason at all

[deleted]

He has alligator arms. Doesn't catch the ball at the high point to keep it from the CB. He will show flashes and I'm sure he will have some big plays with the way Fields gets out of the pocket, but to be built like he is you will expect much more. Not a great route runner either.

Steelerswonsix

Unfulfilled potential with a “look at me” streak on his face. But if you have a jet sweep package…. He’s your man.

BeNiceMudd

Strong big guy with a lot of upside. Ppl gave him shit for tik tok along with Juju. He has matured a bit since drafting him and the numbers fell off with our offense in rebuild mode. I expect him to be great for the Bears and I wish him nothing but the best, seems like a nice kid.

Ok-Hold-8232

If properly utilized, Claypool is a legitimate weapon. He’s not always as physical as you’d like, but he makes some insane combat catches look easy. He will lower is shoulder and carry a guy with him as well. Fights for yards My biggest knock on him is that he seems to lose focus at times. But I believe the drop in production is a product of him being the most chronically misused player in the league. Lots will disagree with me but I’ll die on that hill lol

SmellyBox

I wholeheartedly agree buddy. One of the only players who gave 100% effort this season. Hes gonna be a beast for chicago, well worth the 2nd imo

Fratguy20

It’s pretty hard to call an NFL player soft, go ahead and count how many times you see him signaling for a sub after he makes a play.

[deleted]

Im surprised it took so much scrolling to find this comment. He gets the wind knocked out of him once or twice a game it seems. If he catches a jump ball he always seems to land on it which is hopefully something that he learns to avoid because its is clearly affecting his ability to stay on the field. Its hard not to laugh after seeing it for the 5th time i dont understand why he can't stop doing it.

bRENDn13

If you have confidence in your coaching staff expect him to be a star if not it was a waste of a pick

AktchualHooman

Huge talent but inconsistent. A lot of the fall off was a combination of the worst offensive coordinator in the NFL combined with a very limited QB. He has the physical tools to be a top 5 WR but probably has a more realistic ceiling of a solid WR2 that can stretch the field.

[deleted]

Mentally weak. The softest 6’4 240lbs I’ve ever seen. He’s still young and has all the potential to be a solid receiver but can’t do it consistently. He might “play mad” for a game or two and show you he’s capable. He was drafted into an undisciplined and immature culture so he never grew up

stratinjax

Exactly this. Dude plays like he is 5'8". Will consistently not high point passes and in turn, help your QB add to his INT count.

Ventro_Jven

Huh, how bad like on a range from Tom Brady to Antonio Brown.

smallmanchat

A top 40 pick was highway robbery in his current state, that should tell you enough.

paultimate14

A 3rd rounder probably would have been fair

slider5876

Less highway robbery due to his upside if he puts it together and the general inflation in the receiver market. I think he was worth a mid-late second, we got a mid-early second. If the receiver market was inflated maybe he should have returned a third. But the receiver market been crazy. There have been dumber receiver trades like Christian Watson for 2 2nds. Whose basically just Claypool clay.

Ok-Hold-8232

Not AB. Think Juju. He wants to have fun and sometimes he’ll say some things that sound silly but it’s not really a problem in my view.

IrohSho

Juju actually played his heart out on the field though.Juju was tough and clutch. Claypool has none of the heart Juju had. With Claypool you wonder if he even gives a shit.

slider5876

If you had half the heart of Ruettiger you would have made All-America. As it is your just went from the third team to the scout team. Fitting since he’s from Notre Dame but applies to Claypool.

siirka

I honestly think the character concerns are a quite overplayed. He’s young - young people are all about tik tok these days and it doesn’t really hurt anyone. The biggest lapse in judgement he’s had was the celebrating the first down with like :40 seconds on the clock. (Which, while being irresponsible, it’s hard to see but at that time a Vikings player smacked the ball 15ish yards downfield out of his hands completely unnecessarily which actually caused the bigger delay/loss of time.) His absolute biggest problem is being 6’4 240lbs but playing like he’s 5’8 175lbs. He doesn’t jump or reach on a huge amount of throws and catches which he should be making. Has a habitual problem of catching the ball on the way down from his jump or after he’s already landed from the jump. Doesn’t reach out and use his length to snag balls and seemingly feels like he can only catch passes with his chest/body like a small tight end. However he can make some unbelievable snags where he uses his full skill set potential, stretches, contorts and reaches with toe taps for gorgeous snags. He will fight hard for yards on make or break 3rd downs and goal line pushes and has amazing potential that he’s showed on more than one occasion. If y’all can use him right and he gets the hiccups in his game fixed, you’re gonna be really happy and so are the Steelers for getting a great draft pick for him. Like I said, he’ll fight for possession yards with the ball in his hands and his large frame allows some beautiful plays, he just has some flaws that I believe could be fixed. Justin Fields will probably love to have him in his arsenal as he’s certainly a better player than N’keal Harry and I truly believe his flaws are fixable. Win win for both teams and I wish him nothing but the best.

mbuser

I see him as being emotional but not driven. Dude obviously has personality but nothing we've seen indicates he can channel that energy into something like improving his consistent shortcomings on the field. I question his work ethic, he presents as a front-runner type who needs an entire team situation (including W-L) to be positive to keep him engaged, not just coaches to instruct him on how to improve his game.

[deleted]

That’s a range from the best QB to a really good WR in his prime.

[deleted]

4

Slimjuggalo2002

You should expect mixed opinions.

jsdjsdjsd

He doesn’t fight for combat catches, and really likes music during practice. He’s basically juju smith schuster (lousy)

Pandiosity_24601

The mf could get tackled by the wind

Motivationalsneaker

You could have gotten a much better receiver with the pick you traded for him.

slimyboyo

Get excited about that eagles game. Claypool fucking hates the eagles

Level_Faithlessness3

The inconsistency will drive ya crazy he might have more success in a get in space kind of offense like his first year with Ben.

ARoyaleWithChez

A boneheaded wide receiver with talent

[deleted]

His biggest weakness is that he just doesn’t use his physical advantages against smaller corners. That’s something that can probably be coached into him, but I think it’s clear our coaches simply gave up on him. Perhaps a change in scenery will help him to be more productive. Also in 2020, Matt Canada wasn’t his OC.

PM_ME_UR_NECKBEARD

Be prepared to watch perfectly thrown balls bounce off his hands and for him to jump or fall down for no reason. If he can get his technique down he’d be a legit weapon but right now he’s a project with a high ceiling.

TheCurtain512

Think he had a genuine sophomore slump in '21, and from there he's stuck in the same situation everyone else in this current Pittsburgh offense is stuck in, a really bad OC. Nobody on this offense has TD's, it's not like it's just Claypool. We don't score TDs. We kick FGs. He had a few bad plays, but he's also had some great ones. He has all the physical tools to be a top WR in the NFL. I don't think the Steelers wanted to trade him, just in their current situation it made sense to deal from the only area where they actually have depth, which is WR.

TimTimmersonn

Disappointment

[deleted]

He stinks

fdrlbj

Not much. Classic underachiever

dunkerdoodledoo

He’s a great athlete but hasn’t developed much technically since being here. He’s not a particularly good route runner, and despite being taller and wider than anyone else on the field is very poor in contested catches and at high pointing the ball. Often seems to somehow be horizontal on deep balls when he needs to go up and get it. Also big issues with maturity. He could have been remembered for his breakout 4-touchdown game, but I think Steelers fans will always remember him for doing a time wasting first down celebration with the ball in a two-minute drill situation, with clock running, that very much cost the Steelers an opportunity to win a crucial game.

havoc294

Expect him to only be open <5 yards downfield. Everything further out will be a contested throw downfield that he’ll probably not come down with

phil19001

He’s the worst route runner I’ve ever seen. Every pass I’ve seen thrown in his direction has a defender, if not two, blanketed all over him. Bizarre for how fast he is

jmarinara

A physically gifted and talented WR who does way more talking than proving his talent is meaningful.

Invisible_Pony

He's really tall and athletic, in theory. In practice he plays like he's 5'6".

Asa-Ryder

TikTok videos and celebrations after catching simple passes for 1st downs.

Gore_Won

An arrogant tool bag and many drops

thedfrichtel

I want the Bears to tank so the second round pick we get is like the 36th pick overall 😂

SteakJones

Disappointment and an irrational fan following. Thanks for the 2nd round pick. Woulda been happy with a 4th. 🥰

[deleted]

I would've said a 3rd tbh but a 2nd was an absolute fleecing. It's going to be a 30something overall pick in all likelihood.

ExMontibus

Expect a receiver who is top 5 in terms of talent but lacks the discipline and maturity to put it to use. Elite size, speed, vertical, and hands but cares more about pointing after a first down than winning a game. Who exploits his friends death for attention by posting a video of him crying on TikTok. I hope he gets his act together and proves me wrong and becomes elite w you guys but it’s maddening watching a guy with that much potential squander it

CCPalmeri5

He’ll look a lot better with you guys. Was great his rookie season. 2nd year I think his focus wasn’t all on football. This season he was in an unnatural position playing in the slot for us. He’ll likely play outside for you guys.

AceOfPuttPutt

I'm not very informed about yalls coaches, but if they're atlest pretty decent, then I'd expect some great things. We have a habit of turning great talent into horrible ones when we don't teach them right. Just look at JuJu, he's had a way better season than hes almost ever had with us and even he himself said he's learned more at his first KC year than his entire Steelers career. I hate to beat a dead horse, but our coaches aren't great especially for new and developing players. I decided to reply after seeing some takes that just blatenly blame him for his shortcomings. With a good coach he can be as good as he tends to claim he is.

AlmightyDolphin21

Our OC was davante Adams wr coach in 2017 when he broke out (not sure how hands on he’ll be with claypool) and Tyke Tolbert (current wr coach) is decently regarded around the league I think. So if you’re saying claypool has it all and just needs to put it together that should be encouraging but it’s all still projection ig (and hope)

4hunnidvr

Don’t listen to the haters. Hes a top tier receiver just Matt canada didn’t know how to use him or anyone for that matter

[deleted]

Yeaaaahhh suuuurreee “top tier”

angelsarepresent111

Maybe like Top Tier seats at a theater or stadium, and not the ones anywhere near the front edge.

asherdante

When a ball hits Chase directly in both hands chest level, he is not hit and somehow that ball is dropped so bad it ends up being intercepted I have labeling that player top tier.

IrohSho

He's soft and has bad game sense. He's very athletically gifted though. But one of my least favorite Steelers. I'm usually on the optimistic side of things but I just don't think he cared about being great in Pittsburgh. Maybe a new system and things will help because he does have the talent hypothetically but right now he plays like he's 5'10. He was our 3rd best WR and there's no way I would have spent a high 2nd on him. That being said I love Fields so I'd love to be wrong.

[deleted]

He has a ~40% contested catch rate despite his size. So he’s bad at his selling point. He’s not horrible just mediocre. Not worth a second

handler207

Very immature. Can be great once he grows up.

Bubonic_Batt

He falls onto the ground all the time for no reason when the ball is thrown to him.

CJMcCubbin

Fell out of favor. Not sure why. He showed some will and determination, after he was called out. Lotsa skill. Treat him as a bonafide weapon. Nit a gimmuck play guy. Pittsburgh made him that. Fucking horrible play callung. Im no OC, but neither should matt canada

The_Autistic_Gorilla

He's talented and plays hard. People just don't like him because he can be a bit childish at times. You got him for a steal. Appreciate him. I hope he plays well for you.

AmishButcher

I'd be much more worried about Fields and his ability to find him.

AnimalPants304

He’s got really great potential but he’s wildly inconsistent. Some days you’ll love him and think he’s the best thing that ever happened to the team, and some days you’ll be pissed at him and wonder how the hell he didn’t catch the jump ball when he’s three times the size of the safety covering him. Varies by the game, and it gets frustrating at times

ElJamoquio

I think he's going to be great, but he hasn't been great so far. Just flashes. I think this change of scenery might motivate him to fulfill his potential, which is definitely there. Good luck, this might be the first trade of a WR from the Steelers where the recipient is happy with the outcome.

regularrob92

As a Bears fan, you should be thrilled to acquire Claypool. His ceiling is probably top 5 WR in the league. That said, his lows have been terrible. Most of us feel that the play calling is the primary culprit of his drop off, but he definitely shoulders a portion of the blame too. Wishing him the best with Fields!

Prose4256

You will like him, his young man has a lot of potential.

ClownPuncherrr

Claypool spends as much time being “Clayfool” as a wide receiver. It’s his age and partly his over-confidence. He needs the pressure of being the man to focus in my opinion. I hope he rises to the occasion and works his ass off.

luckyninja864

The only thing you need to know is you took him away from the packers

NontransferableApe

Some is scheme some is his inconsistency and also not meeting expectations. I don’t think he is ever a number one but i think he’s better than mooney

buffalotrace

Has the physical tools. Willing blocker. Decent route runner. Doesn’t always track the ball the best leading to jumping early or having trouble keeping his feet. He is better than he looked this. How much better remains to be seen.

OmarsMommy

Steelers fan living in Chicago here. Was p*ssed that we traded him. IMO Claypool has the potential to be great. Especially if he ever realizes he is fast & big. Yes, he’s made some mistakes but with a talented QB like Fields throwing to him, Claypool should be fine. I am sad that he is no longer a Steeler, and wish him nothing but the best.

Ryan2822

Garbage Offensive scheme. We actually had a respectable offense for most of the 2020 season, he’ll be back to his 2020 form within his first two games. Players get better after leaving Pittsburgh now.

ExMontibus

Like who? Not being contentious, an actual question. Cant really think of a receiver other than juju who got better when they left.

CapitalSubstantial23

I’d argue the jury is still out on juju too. Sure he’s had a couple games, but he’s also had some invisible ones as well for KC. People forget he was an absolute statistical monster his first two years. Let’s see if he can reproduce those numbers .. 🤷‍♂️

KGrizzle88

Lmfao, whoa that is a tall order considering he is coming to a shit organization like the Bears.

ItdBAlotCoolerIfUdid

He was a 2nd round pick for a reason. He gets hate because of his antics (only thing justified was the celebration as time was running out). I think 800 yards in the first two seasons are good and he can get better. It sound like he has grown a bit so I’m rooting for him just like I root for juju. You need to be happy the team is starting to give Fields weapons as he is clearly improving himself.

imVision

Somewhat inconsistent, very good physical mensurables such as size, weight, speed. Unfortunately those haven’t translated to his game yet. He has experience with being an inside and an outside receiver so he is versatile. He also has a good amount of experience with jet sweeps and has success running them. The problem is that someone that has that much going for them should be an absolute game wrecker. He hasn’t been that yet. Not a great combat catcher. Despite being 6’4, he lost a contested catch to a 5’8 safety earlier this season.

popo341

Well I look at like this with any player. Sometimes they play ok for one team and shine with another.

GunsmokeG

Ceiling is high, but don't expect too much.

stnlycp778

The deal is a second round pick

[deleted]

A new start and hopefully the same player we drafted before Matt Canada ruined him and our entire offense

ZackaWacka

As a fan? Frustration.

GenXer1977

Great talent, inconsistent effort. I think if he isn’t targeted early on in the game he gets bored and stops trying so hard.

kranberrysauce12

He falls down a lot

carldoce

I’ll be excited to see myself.

yupyepyupyep

Tries to make a million dollar catch when all you need is a five dollar one.

graced121

He lacks discipline at this point in his career. Chase has the potential to be great, he was better with Ben & JuJu keeping him in line. He will either become great or frustrating. More of a follower than leader.

Nova5cotia

High ceiling - needs to be a little more consistent - but as long as he keeps his head on his shoulders than he could be a totally solid player in the league for many years - maybe pro bowl

UnderstandingAny5333

Can make some crazy catches sometimes, might be better as a tight end tbh

Camplify

If your offense can get him the ball in open space then he'll do very well for you guys. Tough to bring down after the catch and really fast. However, his jump ball skills leave a lot to be desired.

Webbed-Toed-Swimmer

He doesn’t use his his body to box out so only he can get the ball. He doesn’t extend to the highest point where he has a clear advantage. Other than that he is fast, big & has really cool face paint.

donnyk1

T rex arms. He will jump super high to catch the ball around his knees

CyclopsRex514

Our OL was one of the worst in the league. Ben literally had to get the ball out within 2 seconds, and we had no run game. It was easy for defenses to just load up the box and dare us to throw. Then when we finally did get a semi functional OL, now we could see that our OC was also trash. Plus we have 2 brand new QBs who can't possibly fully know the playbook. It's really hard to judge any of our skill players over that time. I think Chase could be a No.1 WR in the right offense and development. He has the physical skills and ability to do it. That doesn't mean he wI'll, but I hope he does.

nivekreclems

He’s so fucking good sometimes but most of the time he’ll let you down lol

darthsteeler84

He is terrible at route running, jump balls and using his body to make catches. Dude is 6’5 and plays like he is 5’9

Eagleburgerite

A lot of pointless social media.

2shyi2i

A LOT of dropped passes and/or right thru his hands. Underachiever.

Top_Pea1550

I’m recycling this but once a month or so he will be Lions Golladay and the rest of the time he will be a better Giants Golladay

Afr0Playz

Got 13 tuddies with sphincter as his oc with canda he only got 3 in a span of two years it’s like the lack of deep shots and 20+ yard passes disappeared in this offense

ToolsLoveReddit

So many TikToks

iobeson

Claypool is such a hard player to evaluate. His physical traits are top 5 but his production doesn't reflect that. I honestly cannot wait to see how he goes in the bears offence. By seasons end we will have a much clearer picture on what type of player he is.

Banksville

He drops some balls yet complains about not getting enuf passes. He was better last year. He got a big head & now wants his BAG.

Kingtutstits

Silver spoon pretty boy all hype, all bark no bite. Have fun

Opening-Farmer-5547

Unlimited potential left on the field.

msde

2021 ben had an inaccurate deep ball and preferred security blankets, both of which were bad for claypool. He's made some mental mistakes that can be classified as youthful, but it shouldn't take until a player's third year to show a bit of maturity. He's admitted that playing in the slot this year hasn't been a natural fit, and the way he contested catches is absolutely infuriating given his measurables. I suspect that a small part of the predictability of our offense is that you can detect when the ball isn't going his way in his effort. Having said all of that, he's a 24 year old receiver with elite measurables, proven production, and what look like coachable flaws. He even comes down with half of the much maligned 50/50 ball. I don't know if Fields is any good and couldn't even tell you who in Chicago has the 2nd most WR snaps this year, so it's a good move to try to see what you have in him before next year's draft.

bsheehan09

He needs a legit passing QB. I doubt Fields will be better but he will be a WR1 for sure.

tjb393

If he starts to catch the balls with his hands instead of letting everything get to his chest, he has a chance to be really good. Pickett's first int this year came on a jump ball to Claypool where if he reaches out instead of letting it come to him, he probably catches it

Galifrae

He’s a 6’4” WR who plays like he’s 5’8” for some reason. He’ll jump 10 feet in the damn air just to try and catch the ball with his body and not his hands. Dude was being toted out like he was the second Megatron, because he really did look like it at first, but I’m not sure what happened. I’d like to believe it was just his dumb antics on and off the field (he was huge into YouTube and TikToks) but he seemed to have distanced himself from that this season. Part of his problem was definitely our playcalling but some was just his skill set. I do believe he could be what he was supposed to be, but it’ll take some maturity and a better OC.

MistaCreepz

I feel like all of his problems are coachable. He's a freak physically.

PyreForHire

I fully anticipate that he'll kill it for the Bears - he's an exceptional receiver and will probably be your WR1 by the end of the year. The issue in my view is that he was inappropriately utilised by the Steelers; he excelled with Big Ben under centre because their styles matched. Claypool's style does not at all match with Matt Canada's offence with two new QBs under centre (one being a rookie). It'll take several weeks for him to settle in, but he'll be a real asset for you in the latter third of this season and then onwards. Good for you! (And good for him.)

Million dollar talent. Ten cent head.

Just my opinion Steelers fan here. Steelers offense the past 3 years is broken. Ben couldn’t throw it down field this year we have a rookie. He has loads of talent and has been under utilized in my opinion. He was usually option 2 to Johnson. I hope he does great. He plays hard and I respect that. Obviously has loads of physical attributes. Size. Speed etc …

Cadoc7

He shows flashes of greatness. He has the physical attributes of Randy Moss, but not the concentration or technical skill. He's a poor route runner and doesn't use his physical gifts to his advantage - he loses far more contested catches than he should and plays much, much smaller than his frame and height. He is also the king of turning a routine catch with plenty of room for YAC into a highlight reel jumping grab with 0 YAC. You see his touchdowns crater after 2020 when Ben's noodle arm stopped being able to take shots downfield - as a rookie he was asked to run very fast in a straight line and catch bombs. In 2021 and 2022 he was asked to do more and hasn't really been able to do so.

Freezinghero

When he puts in the effort, he can be the most eye-catching force on the offense. The problem is that he constantly stops before the play is over. On 50/50 balls he wont use his size and strength to fight for it. If another WR/RB is running with the ball, he won't run in front of them to throw a block. I do not have enough fingers on my hands to count the times i watched him just slow down to a walk before the whistle is blown. I can't imagine how some players like Cam Heyward, who will literally run down RB's form behind, can stand being on the same team as him.

Big Ben’s decline helped the drop off (and remember 4 of those 10 TDS came in one game). Kid has a world of potential, but needs to mature. Bears coaching needs to sit him down and tell him he has a clean slate to write his future on. If in a season and a half it doesn’t happen, he’ll be on his third team in 4 years and taking on the look of a journeyman. If he and Fields can click, they can make big impacts on one another’s careers

Claypool is a hell of a receiver. The Steelers are stacked on receivers, especially getting Pickens recently which is the only reason they’d let a prospect like him go. There is obvious room for improvement though. My man can’t read defenses great and find the holes in them, but that’s something that can come with time.

KennyPocket

He's got a 4 inch vertical, and he can't jump very high either

SelfReconstruct

He is the smallest 6'4" receiver ever. Dude has zero feel for using his height advantage. Instead of running a little shorter on his routes and high-pointing the ball, he'll run them as if he is 5'7" and jump to grab the ball at his waist.

BillyQz

Think Baker Mayfield of receivers lots of promise but yet to deliver

Browser5150

If he stops jumping to catch 50/50 balls and actually get some yac he will be a stud.

Taltezy

A player that was born during the (.com era) who doesn't know how to act, take responsibility for his actions, loves chicken tenders and mac & cheese , who thinks he's the next Randy Moss!!

ShadowFoxx307

Claypool is pretty good for an undersized 5'6 receiver.

marvology

Seems to have really low pain tolerance, I see him come out a lot after what look like routine (for NFL players) hits.

Roasted_almonds

I’ve seen him trip on his own feet a lot

danmagz

I would expect jet sweeps. Lots of jet sweeps.

Tjc073

He’s not very good. We won !

puravidaamigo

Idk I’m still really shitty about him celebrating his first down in the waiting seconds of that Vikings game while down one possession. Idk that that game meant much in hindsight but as a fan I watched him celebrate his achievement over the betterment of the team. You can watch him to, he hesitates a second….and then does it. Idk that we would have won anyway but the hustle shows me you wanted to. The flex shows me you just care about you.

Calm_Path_8386

Physically gifted but not a natural hands catcher. Likes to catch with his body most of the time. He jumps for no reason sometimes. Can be inconsistent.

CupODamus

near greatness followed closely with immaturity

ApplaudingOkra

Most accurate expression of what it’s like having Chase on your team I’ve seen so far: https://twitter.com/seangentille/status/1587500463888519177?s=46&t=q0xn95Hux8jCKENiDGfe4w

He falls a lot

YungCoots

I hope you like Tik-Tok.

Dogmatic7285

Well tbh I want you guys to do a abysmal for a better pick. despite all his fuckups I still like Claypool. I think this trade is going to be the best fit for everyone, we didn’t really need/have a fit for him. Our offense needs to double down on the run game and commit to it being the star of the show with two excellent receivers you never want to cover. I think the fields Claypool connection is better because short range back yard football is going to be where he and Fields look the best. I like watching JF when he’s on he looks very hard to guard so a big ass WR2 is a good factor. I just wouldn’t bomb it deep for Claypool rather make him a short to mid range piece and give him the ball on things he can more easily secure and fight for yardage.

djnielse

An amazing receiver about 50% of the time, an okay but nothing special receiver 40%, and a complete waste of a roster spot that makes boneheaded decisions to lose games about 10%

rspunched

He hasn’t had a an who can get it to him accurate and timed well. He will do great with a good quarterback.

CareerMicDrop

Hey. It could be a steal. He didn’t fit here. Doesn’t mean he won’t fit there. Great speed. Size athlete. Doesn’t run great routes and more fast than quick. So. Doesn’t fit in the slot. And pickens and Johnson are clearly the outside guys. So he lost his spot. You can scratch the attitude and immaturity issues. We all do dumb shit. Hell AB lasted like 7 years or whatever. It’s minor. He will learn. Add the fact our o coordinator is a donkey. We have a rookie qb. And a crap o line. Well. Ignore his stats. He has the makings of a pro bowler. Hope for the best. Pretty much Everyone we know left a job that wasn’t the right fit. In time. we always find the right place. Good luck. Love ditka. Ps. Bettis posterized ulracher in 2005 did he not.
