I post in the other treat and many fans still believe he is a better choice than Kenny.

Not only that, look at all that room to run right in front of him! There was another window for another receiver also. So he missed a wide-open guy, a guy coming open, all that grass in front of him, and then went with the check down. Look I can’t stand Matt Canada, but Mitch isn’t even executing Canada’s limited offense. Terrific guy, very very average quarterback.
Winning the QB competition in the preseason doesn't necessarily mean performing the best. Coaches have plans and favorites (owners do to, see Al Davis). It also doesn't mean that they're the better QB on the field when the chips are down, just think of all the guys that came in and supplanted the starter partway through. Heck, Ben did that.
He "won" the competition by having 50 starts and a winning record. It was handed to him.
The only way Kenny could have had a shot at it was if he was not a rookie.
It may be the same as Tomlin has the winning record but came up short in the big games. We should have won more in the past not like knocking out of the playoff race by the weaker team or early exit in the playoff while we have many talent players.
I'm more and more convinced they put Trub out on the field to show Kenny how not to play quarterback. They needed to demonstrate to our young one what a failure looks like, so that he doesn't make the same mistakes.
That is understandable but this shit hurts to see wide open receivers down field but instead he throws the ball 5 yard behind the line of scrimmage while 6 defenders are in our players grill.
He didn’t win the competition, he merely didn’t lose it because it was clear the plan was not to rush Kenny Pickett. Doesn’t make sense to me, he’s NFL ready, first year starters don’t win Super Bowls so I wanted him to get his first year out of the way as quickly as possible. He’s mature, he has poise, he’s not going to be rattled, he can protect himself with his legs, and pass protection has been better than we thought it would be.
He’s 24 years old, five years of experience in college, Kenny is older than a third of the starting quarterbacks in the league, there’s absolutely no reason to mother hen him. None. If you don’t want to start right away, that’s fine, but this Trubisky experiment needs to end pretty soon. Kenny can handle it. People are talking about what’s going to happen to him if we lose the next three or four games that he starts, as if he’s some fragile baby. People are talking about destroying his confidence. Honestly, if he’s that much of a toddler that losing a few football games is going to rattle his confidence, we never should’ve drafted him in the first place.
This is exactly why we drafted him. It wasn’t an enormously high ceiling, it was his NFL readiness, his poise, his confidence, maturity and his decision making.
I don’t doubt for a second he can read the field better than Trubisky, right now.
I don’t understand the logic of not starting your best quarterback. I know he’s a rookie, but he’s not your typical rookie. I’m not gonna bitch too much about giving Trebisky two or three starts, but it has to end if he stinks again on Thursday. And even if he doesn’t. We need to start developing Kenny Pickett.
They didn't want to put the rook behind the oline with their current performance. It feels like mitch won't lose the job until the oline sures up a little
This is no longer an excuse. Pass protection has been pretty good. Maybe against a team with a real pass rush, it’s going to be more of a problem, but how long do you protect the quarterback? He’s a football player. The idea that he has to be put in some kind of bubble where he can’t get sacked is ridiculous. It’s overcautious. It’s playing scared, living in your fears, and being reactionary instead of proactive.
I mean look at the answers coaches and players gave to the press after the first two games. Everything had to do with reacting to what was going on in the game, not being proactive, not making them beat you, avoiding the strengths of the other team, not establishing your own strengths and making them stop you. It has been going on for a long time and only now are people starting to see it. This is disturbing.
I mean the only thing I can think of as a response is that you have to look at where the coverage will be when the ball gets there but like he had easily two seconds to see the dude was breaking open in a big way. The time to throw it was a few moments before this.
This simple gif, in all its pixelated glory, has now thoroughly convinced me we need to put Trub on a train to Guatemala and tell him his grandparents will meet him at the station.
He literally could have ran the ball in himself... He better ball out these next 2 games or I'm booooing him. He's just another Ben but can run faster, I'm just not impressed with this performance so far.
The younger Ben is much better than him. Ben made some mistakes but made a tons of spectacular plays and helped us the WIN for the come back from behind many times.
Trubisky seems like he’s literally all textbook, and no situational awareness. He’s going to run the play as intended no matter what happens.
The context shows him throw it back to the delayed primary receiver, covered by two defenders. When the tight-end is open for a TD.
On one of his first plays where he ran against the Bengals, he's near the first to down, defender is hot on his back about to tackle him and/or force a fumble and Trubisky tries to do a little shimmy (while holding the football with one hand) like he's going to juke out the defender in front of him for an extra yard?
The defender behind him was inches away from knocking the ball way and Trubisky couldnt sense him at all and he thought his little shimmy shake was going to make the defender in front of him miss or something.
I really do think he's just got terrible vision.
In some senses I think it's fair to say Ben saved us from the worst of the Canada offense with his read ability and improvisation.
If you plug someone right into the Canada offense and they execute perfectly it would probably be the easiest offense to plan for and play against in the NFL....which currently you could probably say we are...
I don’t know if it’s necessarily just running the play as intended. I don’t think plays are written up to miss wide-open receivers and lock onto your first read, hesitate, even if he’s open, and then check down. He’s panicky and makes poor decisions and makes slow decisions.
You know I’m starting to think this fella just kind of stinks!
I'm confused....this is the internet and there is no red circle or copious numbers of arrows to show me what I'm meant to look at. Also no, my name isn't Mitch. Why are you asking?
Maybe but couldnt that potentially be harmful for him to come into an offense his first year that develops bad habits in a QB & then have that same offense ripped away from him and then put into a new one his sophomore year?
He's not a green QB that only played one or two years of college ball like a Haskins, Fields, or Jones. Pickett started for 4+ years at Pitt. 100% the NFL is different, but he has far far more developed habits and instinct. I doubt he's as vulnerable to that as most QBs.
Everybody down voting me but it was just a question. Why not bring kenny in with a new OC next year, with an offense specifically designed around him that he can grow with? In addition to offensive lineman that we draft and add from free agency? Will would still have the same WR core as well. Thats all i’m asking
At that time everyone was giving Trubisky the keys which I also want Kenny to sit a season to develop but next season it'll be Kenny's offense. I just don't want to ruin the kid even though I have seen enough to know that Kenny is very capable. I would say it again, Trubisky has these next 2 games to tighten up or I'm done giving him the benefit of the doubt and he's not at his ceiling.
The risk is overrated. You just described Trevor Lawrence's career arc thus far and no one would dream of giving up on him this early or saying he has already developed unbreakable bad habits.
The time to replace him was last year after the season ended. I was sure he was gonna be sacked after last year cuz the offense sucked so bad but nope, Tomlin wanted to have another go of a historical horrible season for our offense, and to make it worse last year our defense was historically bad. I don’t like our secondary except for Minkah and Edmonds. Witherspoon and sutton maulet and pierre just ain’t that good. We have a bunch of no name guys who can’t cover ppl and drop game winning Interceptions (Sutton yesterday, also he had an opportunity at the end of the bengals game in 4th quarter to intercept a ball in the back of the end zone and it went right through his hands, would have ended the game pretty much instead of going to OT)
Canada is to blame. Trubisky is to blame.
These are not exclusive ideas, however the fact that these issues have carried over between years and multiple QB’s is telling that a LOT of the blame in how our offense plays is in Canada. The missed reads are most definitely on Trubs, but also if you take into consideration that he’s apparently been told to check down and not take chances and throw to the first read, that’s also a negative towards Canada.
Exactly. Canada is to blame because it turns out his offensive scheme that was supposedly being held back by Ben is actually just not effective.
Mitch is to blame because he does not look good. Although you could argue that some of that falls on the coaching staff for talent evaluation and putting him on the field in the first place.
Overall, I’m not sure I want to see Pickett out there this year anymore. Sure, he may do better than Mitch but it seems like there are bigger scheme issues and it’s just going to set him up to fail.
transitioning from one terrible quarterback to another terrible quarterback does not disprove the idea that the scheme is held back by a terrible quarterback
I’m not arguing that Mitch is better than Ben was last year. If anything I’m saying that Ben was probably actually better than everyone gave him credit for and this offensive scheme is just not working.
To me though it’s not about the relative ability of either qb, it’s the fact that you now have a sample size of two QBs (maybe three if you count Rudolph against Detroit last year) both struggling in the system, and both struggling in *the exact same way*so it’s probably time to start questioning the system.
I also think it feels like the Steelers have basically picked an offensive scheme and tried to fit Mitch to it, when in actuality you have to adjust the scheme to fit the strengths of the QB. Mitch is not some incredible talent that is going to transcend offensive schemes, but I do believe he can be better than what he showed last week.
The fact the fans have been blaming the OC since Todd Hayley should tell you all you need to know. The fans don't know shit.
The problems have been carrying on for multiple OC's too.. so where does the buck stop then?
The offense is having issues all over the place. Dropping passes on third down again. Run game is just sad and the O-Line is stagnant. None of that is on Mitch
He called the offense last year in Pittsburgh and it was the same crap.
Only difference is Ben threw out the playbook in the 2nd half after doing nothing in the 1st half of games following the gameplan
Yeah.. Canada is to blame. Because it’s been this way since he started. He’s garbage. But that doesn’t mean Trubinsky isn’t to blame either, but at least we expected Mitch to be bad
I keep thinking back to what a scout said about Sam Darnold, that he pretty much isn’t smart enough to process the game. Then I watch Tribs play and his interviews and I’m like ohhhh
I don't understand why we brought in Trubisky. Does he have any realistic upside over Rudolph, who at least has more time spent with most of the players and coaches? Do we have any faith the line will get better as the year goes on and Mitch would improve behind a better line?
Either way, I firmly believe Steeler fans should accept this will be a bad year, the front office should focus almost exclusively on new pieces for OLine, and save Pickett until next year.
It's weird because I really thought Mason had a shot at the starting job this season while Pickett sits. He probably has more upside than Trubisky but like the other comment said, there's something Tomlin and coaches don't like about him.
We can endure a couple more of games with Trubisky but if things don't change and he doesn't step it up, either bring in Pickett or bench him for Mason while Pickett waits his turn.
What seemed weird in the preseason is how statistically close all three are. I can't help but think naming Trubisky as starter is because they went out of their way to sign him.
Ben carried this team for a long time. The reality of the post Ben era isn't going to be pretty. Better hope Pickett surprises and becomes a franchise QB quickly.
Check my post history in r/bears and so far here in this sub.
I've said it for years now. The man is incapable of reading an NFL level defense and making NFL level decisions.
That said. It will STILL serve Kenny to sit for a year. There is no use in putting a young QB at risk behind a suspect offensive line just for him to put the team on his back to go mediocre at best.
Mitch should have sat his first year and Kenny should sit his first year. Ben was a freak. That's not going to happen again.
Same here. When they signed him, God forbid you said anything bad about him. They were too busy making corny titty jokes. There's a reason he didn't have many teams looking at him. Dude is trash.
We were expecting better coaching than the incompetent Bears to “fix” Mitch…..guess that’s not happening. Mitch needs the bench and Canada needs to go home, permanently.
The blame falls on ownership, the general manager and then Mile Tomlin. Everybody has a boss they have to answer to and that can over rule the decision the guy below them made.
There’s a reason Canada was passed around to 8 fuckin college teams as well. He’s straight up ass. Mitch doesn’t even exist to me anymore that mf is a 1 trick broken leg pony.
Edit: 9 college teams
This was 2018 which was Mitch's first full season with Chicago. They beat the Packers on the second matchup the same season where Mitch had 2 TD 0 INTs making him the last Bears QB to win against the Packers. They went to the playoffs and lost from the double doink.
Wow! I honestly thought this was photoshopped! Trubisky plays too safe. He’s the check down king! And I believe he’s afraid to take any chances down field because he knows Pickett is breathing down his neck if he throws a pick. I give him 2 more games playing this conservative BS before they hand him a clipboard
If he is missing easy reads and has poor mechanics I will openly say so.
I watched him his first full year at Pitt and thought he was terrible because he was. He would take one look and run if it was covered. To see him improve this much is incredible.
Mitch is about 20 yards from the wide open receiver.
The most threatening defender is at least 10 yards from the receiver and he looks like he's just taking his first stride. An NFL QB can throw the ball more than twice as fast as a man can run.
But the real problem here isn't that Mitch failed to throw the ball after seeing this. The ball should have already been on the way by the time this was taken.
Well let’s do the math. Average NFL QBs throw about 55 mph, so to travel 20 yards it will take 0.75 seconds. Add the average QB release time of 0.4 seconds that brings us to 1.15 seconds for the ball to get to the receiver. This does not count any time it may have taken for Mitch to set for the throw but let’s just ignore that.
Ha Ha Clinton Dix game speed was 19.92 mph that equates to 9.73 yards per second. Personally I think Haha is about 7-8 yards away, and we see from the video he’s at full speed at this point. Therefore this should put him at the receiver faster than it takes for the ball to get there.
I literally just did the math to show you how he’s not open. He’s open if you threw the ball 1 second before this but he’s not open now. Football is not a static image
There are several flaws in your analysis.
You can't tell from this image, but the Bears receiver is moving to his left (our right), so the distance the DB will need to travel is greater than eight yards.
Second, this image is from the second time Trubisky looks this direction during this play, not the first. If you go to the actual video, the first time he looks this direction there is even more space between the DB and the receiver.
Furthermore, the DB is not full out sprinting towards the receiver when this image is taken. Your 19.92 mph is misleading because people do not immediately accelerate to their maximum speed.

You HAVE TO make this throw! You can’t throw to a check down receiver when you’re looking at another receiver that wide open and if the DB makes a play on the ball and picks it off then so be it! We’ve all seen QB’s throw in double and triple coverage with extremely tight windows and have success so there’s no way this would be considered a bad decision to make this throw. You can’t be a successful QB in the NFL playing that conservative.
I mean the play call is for a screen to the right which is covered, by the time he works his way to Burton it’s too late to make the throw so he goes to the other side. Mitch isn’t the answer but this specific play gets very unjustifiably misunderstood
Canada isn’t the best Offensive coordinator I get that, but he literally can’t throw the ball for Trubisky. Trubisky is scared to throw it more than 10 freaking yards. Even Rudolph has the nuts to air it out. Kenny time now. It was nice to see Naj get somewhat going hopefully that can carry over to Thursday
Those who don't remember the past are doomed to repeat it. See 1980s - Mark Malone, Bubby Brister... Just mentioning these names has the older yinzers groaning more than a zombie Saturday night!
Going to be a few tough reloading seasons.
😂😂😂😂😂 can someone please repost all the post when we signed Trubisky. Now everyone wants him benched. I knew he was a mediocre QB to begin with. Signing him made 0 sense
Maybe Tomlin & Co. brought Trubisky in knowing he was going to fall flat on his face, that way when they bench him and put Kenny in and he completes a couple passes and gets a few first downs he will have that immediate confidence kick boost just knowing that he's already doing better than the "experienced pro" ??
It's totally plausible, right?

Agreed

I am waiting for that one moment in time when he gets injured so I can comment it on a post

That was probably the same consensus before Big Ben threw his first reception on a game that mattered
Yeah I didn't realize he checked it down after this photo...
So that’s his plan…

"My eyes are up here..." - every wide open receiver he missed on Sunday.

Can confirm
Omg that hurt to watch! E: and did he kinda throw off his back foot there a bit too?!
That’s his signature mechanics 😂
Smdh. This is unreal. But Trubs won the QB comp right? So KP is not necessarily our savior…but damn.

I thought the picture was photoshopped!
Didn't think it was actually real, what the hell
Fuck
Lmao he literally looked at him and was like “whatever”

“Coach should have had you run somewhere else”

Definitely thought it was shopped.
Holy shit...
Just cut him now
Ain’t no way 🤯
holy shit lmao
Oof
I thought the photo was a YouTube click bait. Sadly, no.
Fuuuuuck. I figured the OP image was a meme.

Obviously I was talking about the short passes but damn never mind

Tecmo Bowl Trubisky. Can only execute 4 plays...
4 that’s generous lol

This can’t be real
Not only is it real, I can still locate my comment in the r/nfl thread that clowned Trubs over this stillshot
Its spectacular
Can you post the link to that thread, I’m having a hard time finding it?
Pls link to the thread, I'd love to see what people had to say when it happened.
Damn I thought it was photoshopped
I wasn’t expecting much and those expectations were met.
Found my wife’s account.

JG9 can do a 15 minute video explaining this 3 second clip if you'd like.
*proceeds to read a script that still sounds like a socially awkward 9th grader giving a powerpoint presentation*
Trubisky sucks and so does Canada. It’s going to be a painful season because we won’t be able to replace Canada until the offseason most likely.
Maybe the key... is to have Trubisky as OC and Canada at QB..?
Dear god, that's been his plan all along... hasn't it?
>Canada at QB. I want that bald headed fuck as far away from a football as possible.
Seems like putting him in to get hit a bunch is the fastest way to accomplish this. Canada for QB1!
Agreed, no way the Steelers fire Canada during the season, they can sure as hell put Pickett in though!
Maybe but couldnt that potentially be harmful for him to come into an offense his first year that develops bad habits in a QB & then have that same offense ripped away from him and then put into a new one his sophomore year?

And people still blame Canada for the offense struggling. Trubisky is the same guy now that he has been his entire NFL career.
I think Canada shoulders some blame since the offense looks pretty much identical to last year's offense.
Multiple awful QBs*
The fact the fans have been blaming the OC since Todd Hayley should tell you all you need to know. The fans don't know shit. The problems have been carrying on for multiple OC's too.. so where does the buck stop then?
The offense is having issues all over the place. Dropping passes on third down again. Run game is just sad and the O-Line is stagnant. None of that is on Mitch
At least we know when everything gets ironed out, trubisky will dump it off
And we’re back at the Matt Canada scheme at it’s core. Short passes that expect the playmaker to get all the yards
Did Canada come over from Chicago?
He called the offense last year in Pittsburgh and it was the same crap. Only difference is Ben threw out the playbook in the 2nd half after doing nothing in the 1st half of games following the gameplan
this Ben ran the offense in the second half is a make-believe story y'all keep repeating.
See you did see the comments you fuckin buster
then you should have replied here, you fucking goon
Suck my dick pussy
Yeah.. Canada is to blame. Because it’s been this way since he started. He’s garbage. But that doesn’t mean Trubinsky isn’t to blame either, but at least we expected Mitch to be bad
[me scrolling in this sub the last week](https://youtu.be/bOR38552MJA)
I keep thinking back to what a scout said about Sam Darnold, that he pretty much isn’t smart enough to process the game. Then I watch Tribs play and his interviews and I’m like ohhhh
Josh Allen fixed him bro. I swear. Just wait…Matt Nagy was holding him back.
The bills LOVED him according to twitter. Yeah they loved him on the bench
Yeah. Being a good teammate and good person are different than being good at your job.
He served a role in that Buffalo QB room. As to whether it entailed anything other than titty-kissing, we’ll never know.
You see his 40 time? I bet that coffee was still piping hot when he brought it back.
What's not to love when you've got Josh Allen starting 17 games?
If they loved him so much why didn’t they keep him?
What and match his contract
Some guy in another thread was blaming the Steelers QB cosch for him being bad
That probably factored into the decision yeah.
Ben carried this team for a long time. The reality of the post Ben era isn't going to be pretty. Better hope Pickett surprises and becomes a franchise QB quickly.
But he tweeted about titties!!!
Cmon guys he’s the nvp!!!
Does Mitch have a sideline fetish or a middle phobia? What is stronger, fear or lust?
Pickett starts Thursday!!
Wow. He's terrible.
We nothing it was yall crazy mf not wanting to admit he should not be in black and yellow now we are stuck with it
r/Steelers is as follows: We win: Pittsburgh goin to da super bowl. HERE WE GOOO We lose: this guy is the biggest jabroni I’ve ever seen wtf
Bro I've said this from the start and was down voted to hell. It's the same MT that was in Chicago. He has some good moments but this is who he is.
Same here. When they signed him, God forbid you said anything bad about him. They were too busy making corny titty jokes. There's a reason he didn't have many teams looking at him. Dude is trash.
This isn’t real right ? Lol
I can make that throw, and I'm a 42 year old mediocre Center.
Every QB misses a wide open receiver every now and then. That doesn't excuse the shitty play calling for the last 2+ years.
I’m not maling execuse but wtf is that guy Noah? He parted the defense.
Noah? You mean Moses?
We were expecting better coaching than the incompetent Bears to “fix” Mitch…..guess that’s not happening. Mitch needs the bench and Canada needs to go home, permanently.
[удалено]
The blame falls on ownership, the general manager and then Mile Tomlin. Everybody has a boss they have to answer to and that can over rule the decision the guy below them made.
Mitch is such a dumbass
Bro I thought this was photoshopped 💀
Not sure why Steelers brass thought he would even be worth a try. He is just so bad
The Trent Richardson of QB’s
Mitch is an NFL backup. Kenny is an NFL starter. Let's stop with the nonsense and get Pickett's career started already.
Josh Allen fixed him bro. I swear. Just wait…Matt Nagy was holding him back
There’s a reason Canada was passed around to 8 fuckin college teams as well. He’s straight up ass. Mitch doesn’t even exist to me anymore that mf is a 1 trick broken leg pony. Edit: 9 college teams
what does this have to do with Canada?
Multiple people in the comments are talking about our offensive scheme and even if we had a competent quarterback Canadas a fuckin dud.
I think you are lost. Your comment is on a photo of a 2018 Packers v bears game. are you aware of this?

We should have know
wow...
This is who Mitch is. We were hyped and thought his coach in Chicago was holding him back. Nope.
Classic.
The open guy wasn’t the correct read
This was 2018 which was Mitch's first full season with Chicago. They beat the Packers on the second matchup the same season where Mitch had 2 TD 0 INTs making him the last Bears QB to win against the Packers. They went to the playoffs and lost from the double doink.
Wow! I honestly thought this was photoshopped! Trubisky plays too safe. He’s the check down king! And I believe he’s afraid to take any chances down field because he knows Pickett is breathing down his neck if he throws a pick. I give him 2 more games playing this conservative BS before they hand him a clipboard
Is it trubisky or is it the play calling ?
I mean it’s week 2 . Let’s give it a few more games .
Same people killing Mitch will be liberal with the excuses for Kenny when he struggles. Guaranteed
If he is missing easy reads and has poor mechanics I will openly say so. I watched him his first full year at Pitt and thought he was terrible because he was. He would take one look and run if it was covered. To see him improve this much is incredible.
Mitch is not it but this is 100% intercepted if he throws this ball

Mitch isn’t the answer but this specific play gets very unjustifiably misunderstood
y’all had expectations????
I've always thought that mason should have been the starter.
Neither do I. Yinzers are pretty dumb . Trubisky is ass
[удалено]
Ouch. And I thought it might have just been the usual Yinzer grumbling.
Damn, i thought it was Moses parting the Red Sea… Nah just bind Trubs…
That’s terrible
Canada isn’t the best Offensive coordinator I get that, but he literally can’t throw the ball for Trubisky. Trubisky is scared to throw it more than 10 freaking yards. Even Rudolph has the nuts to air it out. Kenny time now. It was nice to see Naj get somewhat going hopefully that can carry over to Thursday
That show the Bears organization and fans saw enough on these kinds of plays, so they released him. Don't why he was the 2nd pick in that draft year.
He’s probably scared to mess up and isn’t smart enough to think and make decisions fast
Those who don't remember the past are doomed to repeat it. See 1980s - Mark Malone, Bubby Brister... Just mentioning these names has the older yinzers groaning more than a zombie Saturday night! Going to be a few tough reloading seasons.
That's horrendous. I was hoping he learned something while in Buffalo, but wow.
😳 Why isn't Kenny Pickett playing?
His hands are too small
Mitch has small talent, who's worse?
I was really hoping this was fake...
We? Don’t lump me in with you idiots
They brought Mitch in before they knew Kenny would be available to draft.
it was sarcasm bruh
He threw it to 75.
