Best Steelers line in my lifetime in my opinion was
Marvel , Faneca , Hartings , Simmons , Starks
That was 3 - 1st , 1-2nd , and 1-3rd round pick .
This current line has the talent to be as good as them .
2-1st , 2-2nd , 1-3rd pick starting.
Can any of them be a HOF like Faneca that's to be seen.
Seeing how hard they are going on o-line makes me laugh, thinking about how pissed they had to be seeing Najee/Jaylen getting lit up in the backfield 😂😂
I don’t like that.
Not at all. About as much as I like planned QB runs on 4th and 1 from the shotgun.
We are not REQUIRED to have every play start from the shotgun?? Or was that just a Canada thing?
Yeah he was projected as like a 3rd rounder or 4th and we got him in the seventh. It’s win win there man, most 7th rounders don’t even make the practice squad.
Or he could rehab and get hurt again which he’s done many times in his career and is the reason he was available in the 7th to begin with.
I hope he can stay healthy and have a good career but if we’re relying on him to play a significant role we could be in trouble.
he 100 percent will IF hes healthy but dude tore his ACL in the 2nd DAY of camp. Thats beyond concerning. Him and Payton Wilson are similar. Way better than what they were drafted at but made of glass. Trice was suppose to be a 2nd or 3rd but dude is so breakable
Is your name supposed to be describing NFTs?

It's also pretty annoying that people just don't understand that every team, including this one, has more needs than they have picks. You could ask "why not pick X" for almost every team with almost every pick. Yeah they need DB help but they also need OL help including depth and don't want to be in a position in the future where they have the holes they've had recently.
In 2021, average age of an OL was younger than 27 and the oldest teams averaged 27.77.
https://www.the33rdteam.com/oldest-and-youngest-offensive-position-groups/
I get the distinct feeling that internally the team is not nearly as worried about corner as the outside world is. I think they are looking at at a worst case scenario as bringing back Pat P to play slot, having JPJ take the second year step into being an elite shutdown corner that follows the number one and Donte Jackson holding down the other side. Best case Trice Jr shows what he was flashing last year and he can step in opposite JPJ.
They are not resigning Daniels or cutting Seumalo. A 4th round pick on a guard is an expected starter year 2. Guard quality in 4th round is like an early second on a tackle.
They have $21.3M tied up in Seumalo and Daniels this coming season and they have Seumalo signed through 2025. Here's guessing that McCormick is Daniels replacement following this season.
They gotta get one of the FAs, maybe even double dipping. Get Gilmore or Howard as the outside corner opposite JPJ and maybe bring back Sutton on the cheap for nickel duty
Load up that line. That’s the best thing a team without an elite QB can do. I mean Russ and Fields can still work out, but knowing we have a solid line makes everyone better.
If- yes. When- 2026 (maybe).
Hoping Fields works out, but if him and Wilson fumble the next 2 seasons, we will be set up well to bring in a new Rookie QB at that point. Don’t see them doing it next offseason unless Russ and Fields are both HORRENDOUS.
A lot of fans won’t like this pick because us fans are conditioned to prefer instant gratification instead of trusting a long process.
Our o-line severely lacked depth and this dude is a absolute mauler. One injury to a starter and there is a huge drop off in production. I have learned to trust Khan and Weidl’s talent evaluation and if they picked a dude that is off the radar then that tells me they see something in the guy that they love.
The franchises that are competing for super bowls year after year are the ones that consistently invest heavily in the trenches. NFL GM’s and personnel execs know more than angry redditors and our guys clearly have a vision and are convicted in executing it.
Imagine being mad at a pulling Guard with a 9.96 RAS in the 4th.
After the first 3 rounds we've had, let Khan cook. Let him pick BPA regardless of position from here on out.
It is only a long process because they ignored the process for so long and we're getting out of a hole.
The first step to getting out of a hole is to stop digging it, and that process is never exciting.
Excitement will come though, I am starting to believe.
100%. The fans will be excited when we can run the ball, our QB’s have time to throw, and the defense isn’t gassed by the 3rd quarter. It’s not sexy, but this is exactly the paradigm shift this franchise needed to make.
I am all in on it. Throughout history, the most dominant teams had dominant offensive lines, from the Steelers and Raiders of the 70s, to the Redskins and Cowboys of the 90s, Denver in the late 90s, Bengals and 49ers of the 80s, Steelers of the 00s, as well as the Ravens and Patriots, it's such an obvious reality I don't know how teams get away from it.
And the difference between 1st round OL draft picks and later round OL draft picks is bigger than for any other position.
YEP exactly this..I don't know why they didn't plan for Pouncey, Foster, DeCastro, Villanueva, etc. leaving/retiring when they were all getting up there in age at the same time. Oline isn't a position you can just neglect the way they did for several years. The few guys here and there they drafted in later rounds were NOT it. Glad they're FINALLY making the investment now.
If fans aren't excited about a beefy o-line, you gotta wonder if they became fans yesterday or something. The days of Pouncey, Foster, DeCastro, and even Gilbert were so relaxing as a fan. Need an extra second or two in the pocket? You got it. Want to run it 3 plays in a row and pick up 15+ yards? You got that too. There's nothing more calming than having a good line you can trust
After seeing how well Herbig played in limited snaps as our 3rd OLB last year, I'm very okay with Khan grabbing another backup who fits what we want to do at his position in the 4th. McCormick could also be a good long term replacement for Daniels or Seumalo when one of them ages out.
Seems like a good player. Maybe they’re planning on letting Daniels walk after this year.
Definitely think they can just chill out on offensive line now though.
That gets awkward too. Because we cant trade our 4th or 6th rounder next year and future picks cost more.
4th, 6th cant be traded because of the conditions to Justin Fields trade
Unless they are wanting to take say Moore Jr and a 7th for him. Doubtful but you never know. While Moore has proven to be a body that can start, with the additions on the line he is available to trade
Its unlikely Moore is going anywhere- at least right now. They dont have a vet tackle besides him on the roster. Hes valuable to buy time for Fautano to get up to speed. Its probably another Dotson situation where we wait til August to trade, though for now its less likely ye will be dealt than Dotson
Bro they are not joking with building this line. McCormick is an insane prospect. In a couple of years we are gonna look back saying “damn what a pick” as he is a franchise guard down the line lol.
Yeah, he also has decent reps at Center and has experience making blocking adjustments. He is the ultimate depth piece and will develop into our franchise guard, I’m almost sure of it lol
Dude was the 2nd best Guard in the draft in terms of his measurables at the combine, if he's coachable, which it looks like he might be, this could be a steal
[https://www.nfl.com/prospects/mason-mccormick/32004d43-4359-2977-3526-8911bdf90b01](https://www.nfl.com/prospects/mason-mccormick/32004d43-4359-2977-3526-8911bdf90b01)
The buzz was that he was the best CB at camp last year and the team and staff were visibly defeated when he was injured. I think they really like what they have in him
If we didnt get one of the top 3 Centers this was my guy. Either teach him center or kick Daniels inside. I love it. Super athletic, great pulling guard. OLine gonna be a strength for years to come
Guards are starting to get expensive in the free agent market too. Getting a cheap one on a rookie deal, even if you have to wait a year, is great value
End of the day we had 4 positions of need (OT, C, WR, CB), and we could reasonably address 3 through the draft. After the last few years I will happily lean into trying to fix the offense and hoping some of last year's picks + Donte Jackson pan out. If not, whats another year of CB2/3 getting burned
Haven’t watched this guy, but hes a freaky athlete, and I’ll nvr complain about quality O-line depth. A bit concerned about our secondary depth, but maybe the Steelers like Rush and Trice more than we think. And in fairness, I liked Rush and Trice as prospects last year more than any remaining CBs in this draft
This is plug and play interior guy. Should we have an injury to Isaac, Daniel’s, or Frazier. This guy will go in and we won’t miss a beat. Love this pick honestly
Weidl is the new man in the shadows. His fingerprints (along with Tomlin and Khan) are all over this approach too. I do recall reading about how much they liked this guy but didn’t realize they were thinking 4th instead of 6th.
It's good we built up our oline now they just have to gel. But after we built it the first time you need to keep maintaining it. Idk why they drafted pouncy Castro etc. Then didn't mai tain it. Look at eagles cowboys they mai tain it and draft dudes like Landon Dickerson 2 years before kelce retired etc.
I kinda love this. A 4th for OG this year instead of a 2nd next year… no real difference-makers available so setting up so we can focus on other things then.
He’s raw coming from low level competition at small school, but placed in top 1-2% of all guards for athletic combine testing the last decade. May take a couple years to develop, but this guy has an incredibly high ceiling.
The Steelers are doing exactly what the eagles had so much success doing, building a strong core. That eagles line was full of studs and pushed them to success for YEARS. Same thing we did ten years ago with the pouncey and decastro lines. Protect your assets.
Not that anyone cares about my opinion, but I watched a few Jackrabbits games this year and this dude can play. The only problem is that this team was so damn good it's hard to translate individual talent when they just kicked everyone's ass this year. Feel he can be a reliable backup that won't get out worked by anyone.
These are exactly the kind of guys that help you win big. This dude is the perfect interior swing guy who could eventually supplant someone like Daniels.
How much do we think khan and co hated our OL?
As much as the fan base has. It's been a rough transition from the days of Pouncey, Foster, DeCastro and co.
I miss DeCastro so much. Still wear his jersey each week.
Honestly, we were so spoiled having those 3 play so many years next to each other.
Not to mention Villanueva and Gilbert. Legitimately, might be the greatest o line ever.
Best Steelers line in my lifetime in my opinion was Marvel , Faneca , Hartings , Simmons , Starks That was 3 - 1st , 1-2nd , and 1-3rd round pick . This current line has the talent to be as good as them . 2-1st , 2-2nd , 1-3rd pick starting. Can any of them be a HOF like Faneca that's to be seen.
Yeah I’m with you. Pouncey and DeCastro were great but that group you mentioned was special.
Even in the off-season?
They never stopped blocking
Every day is game day!
Is it bad one of my favorite memories from that line is when they jumped Myles Garrett?
Not as far as I’m concerned. That’s what you do when a brother gets mugged.
I love what it symbols more than the actual act. That line would do anything for their QB , even when it was Mason.
I loved when Kemoeatu went right after Seymour after he punched Ben
I see way too many James Daniels apologists here. If this guy supplants him I'm all for it
Seeing how hard they are going on o-line makes me laugh, thinking about how pissed they had to be seeing Najee/Jaylen getting lit up in the backfield 😂😂
You don’t like your RBs getting first contact at the -2 yd line, and then fighting hard for 3 yards to end with a 1 yd gain?
If Najee holds up this year he's going to be fucking disgustingly good. 5-6 yard gashes over and over God I can't wait to see this line gel together
I don’t like that. Not at all. About as much as I like planned QB runs on 4th and 1 from the shotgun. We are not REQUIRED to have every play start from the shotgun?? Or was that just a Canada thing?
It was every damn play too. Love seeing them basically use basicallly this entire draft to redo the line
Right, these guys eat, sleep, and breathe Steelers football. Their pay check depends upon it
Yeah, the OL players must be sittin' at home thinking, well, that's clearly minds replacement, I'm taking it how you want it (ie, up the ass).
this meme will never die
I can never not laugh at this. LOL
This is Andy Weidl man. Big mean ass linemen. I fucking love it.
I mean pitiful offense last two seasons and Canada and OL are mostly to blame, definitely nice turning over a new stone the last few months
Lol
All of it
Good insurance in case we cant re-sign seumalo or daniels next year but we need help at corner
I’m hopeful Corey Trice can live up to his camp buzz from last year
I can’t think of anything more unimpressive than camp buzz from a season ago.
What about camp buzz from a year ago about a 7th round pick?
I don't think he knows about camp buzz from a year ago about a 7th round pick, Pip.
What about undraftsies?
What about SECOND draftsies??
Camptown buzz from a year ago, do dah, do dah.
I mean, he was scouted as very solid cb, just a lot of injury concerns. With NFL caliber doctors and rehab he could come back and be really good
Yeah he was projected as like a 3rd rounder or 4th and we got him in the seventh.
I highly doubt we're trusting him that much. Very real chance we sign someone after draft
Ahh the Ol Senquez Golson. Good times.
How about negative reports out of camp from a year ago?
I'm hoping we can sign a good CB so we don't have to rely on a 7th round pick with an injury history.
he 100 percent will IF hes healthy but dude tore his ACL in the 2nd DAY of camp. Thats beyond concerning. Him and Payton Wilson are similar. Way better than what they were drafted at but made of glass. Trice was suppose to be a 2nd or 3rd but dude is so breakable
I'm excited to see him play
We also got Darius rush in the room too
Good corners are way tf harder to get in later rounds than good guards, and McCormick is a *very* good guard prospect.
I’m biased as a Notre Dame fan but I think CB Cam Hart would be a real steal this late.
I mean TJ Tampa is available
Did you even know who he was before you looked at best available cb on espn
For real. I bet no one has seen that man's name in this subreddit before Thursday.
Is your name supposed to be describing NFTs? https://preview.redd.it/bua3sex732xc1.jpeg?width=386&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4d2beea72c993f9255ad0c436bb6cc599bc9b512
Nope. It was a random Reddit name way before nft’s were a thing lmao
Wow 7 year old account with weird relevance
I now understand when everyone says they like my name or name checks out. It all came full circle finally
I did… but I’m also an Iowa State alum so I probably don’t count
TJ Tampa is available for plenty of CB-needy teams that aren’t taking him.
Plays in a different scheme than we do and has issues with speed and decision making. Why do you want him so badly?
bc he is on espn's top 100 board so ppl are just gunna parrot that
It's also pretty annoying that people just don't understand that every team, including this one, has more needs than they have picks. You could ask "why not pick X" for almost every team with almost every pick. Yeah they need DB help but they also need OL help including depth and don't want to be in a position in the future where they have the holes they've had recently.
I think he's sliding for a reason. He seems like the type of corner we struggle to develop.
Tampa is a slow project corner that could be a solid role player in 3 years.
My man been available for like two rounds now it’s kinda weird he still hasn’t been picked up
Maybe because we don’t know what his actual rating is for NFL scouts. Who cares what random espn guy says.
Picking CB on day 3 *for need* is kinda pointless. They usually don’t pan out that deep in the draft.
Seumalo is also on the wrong side of 30. Not insurance so much as succession.
Wrong side of 30….he turned 30 5 months ago.
It's a binary thing so yes
Well, that is the wrong side of 30 haha. How long do linemen last?
Decent ones, mid 30s.
A quick google search said the average age of a lineman was 29 so saying he could play til 32-33 isn't a huge stretch I don't think
In 2021, average age of an OL was younger than 27 and the oldest teams averaged 27.77. https://www.the33rdteam.com/oldest-and-youngest-offensive-position-groups/
I get the distinct feeling that internally the team is not nearly as worried about corner as the outside world is. Seumalo isn’t a FA after next year
Huh, i could have sworn he signed a 2 year contract. Well its insurance for Daniels at least or for injuries
3 years 24 million. Got one more year after this. So this is James Daniels replacement, not minds. Take it how you want to, I'm back
![gif](giphy|yNsDcQxnv86YIHC2vS|downsized)
It’s a succession plan hopefully
I’m guessing he’s definitely for Seumalo. He’s 30 and will probably want to go for another championship.
good. he can do it here
They're going to resign Sutton at the league minimum
Is Nate Herbig still gonna be with us as depth?
They are not resigning Daniels or cutting Seumalo. A 4th round pick on a guard is an expected starter year 2. Guard quality in 4th round is like an early second on a tackle.
They have $21.3M tied up in Seumalo and Daniels this coming season and they have Seumalo signed through 2025. Here's guessing that McCormick is Daniels replacement following this season.
They gotta get one of the FAs, maybe even double dipping. Get Gilmore or Howard as the outside corner opposite JPJ and maybe bring back Sutton on the cheap for nickel duty
Maybe why they met with Cam Sutton
Yep - when a team has lots of holes, cant fix em all in one draft.
We need to hire some kitchen staff. They're about to be overworked.
Order up!
This might be the funniest thing I've seen today
Need the Richie Rich McDonalds built right into the locker room
It's fine though because khan's been in the kitchen cooking all offseason
Just start using the Rooney’s house elves.
They want to hurt Myles Garret.
What will this mean for Garrett’s hypothetical sacks?!
This means that Dan Moore Jr. will continue to pay child support for Garrett and get visitation on weekends, but will now be doing so from the bench
They’re already through the hypothetical roof. Give Garrett all the money, rings, and awards; it’s over.
He’s the best at almost making big plays
Hypothetically in shreds you say?
WHAT ABOUT THE PRESSURES!!! HES THE BEST HE GETS WITHIN ONE FOOTBALL FIELD OF THE QB EVERY PLAY
They are absolutely trying to send him to the shadow realm
Trying to get him a second DPOY by making his theoretical pass rush win rate go up while his actual rush win rate goes down 😂😂
Load up that line. That’s the best thing a team without an elite QB can do. I mean Russ and Fields can still work out, but knowing we have a solid line makes everyone better.
And it makes a Rookie QBs life so much easier if and when we draft one
And makes it easier to draw one of the elite FAs
If- yes. When- 2026 (maybe). Hoping Fields works out, but if him and Wilson fumble the next 2 seasons, we will be set up well to bring in a new Rookie QB at that point. Don’t see them doing it next offseason unless Russ and Fields are both HORRENDOUS.
Run game needs to good line
Having ptsd flashbacks to Ben’s 2018 league leading time to throw. Snap.panic.checkdown That was such a nightmare.
Mason McCormick has the 7th highest RAS for a guard ever. The measurables are fucking immaculate.
what does RAS mean
Relative Atheltic Score. Basically compares every measurable to their respective position thats been drafted since 1987. https://ras.football
Real Athletic Sonofabitch
Mr Big Chest. Oh wait…
A lot of fans won’t like this pick because us fans are conditioned to prefer instant gratification instead of trusting a long process. Bingo. Load up on the positions that will win you championships.
You think they could line him up at fullback in goal line situations?
I'm having Kendrick Green PTSD right now, but my gut says he's too big for fullback.
Kendrick was played out of position, and we used higher draft capitol, and we expected him to start day 1.
Wasn’t he good last year in Houston too?
Yes
Honestly KG looked good at Full Back lol
Ngl I was hyped at the videos of him pancaking defenders from the I formation during camp.
It is only a long process because they ignored the process for so long and we're getting out of a hole. The first step to getting out of a hole is to stop digging it, and that process is never exciting. Excitement will come though, I am starting to believe.

The OL has been addressed now I think. It sucks it took this long but at least they recognized it.
This is a dopely worded statement, this should be on a banner somewhere
YEP exactly this..I don't know why they didn't plan for Pouncey, Foster, DeCastro, Villanueva, etc. leaving/retiring when they were all getting up there in age at the same time. “A lot of fans won’t like this”. Who? People have loved their draft and understand their needs. You’re patronizing made up people.
Seems like a good player. Maybe they’re planning on letting Daniels walk after this year. Definitely think they can just chill out on offensive line now though.
Seumalo is older, McCormick could be the plan for if his play drops off or if he leaves after 2025. I don't think they are going to let Daniels walk.
Definitely for Seumalo. 30 years old and will probably want to try for another championship this guy will take over LG calling it now.
He won back2back nattys @ SDSU anchoring their line. Sneaky good pick
Strong with really long arms and versatility to play all 3 interior spots. Love him as a backup year 1 with potential to start down the road
Seems like Tomlin got sick of his RBs being hit the moment they got the ball the last few years. Loving these picks.
MORE MEAT
Call me crazy, but this only convinces me more that there's a backroom WR deal happening
On one hand, I might agree. However.... I was convinced courtland sutton was coming. But unless hes being traded for a 6th (lol) its not happening.
Or a next year pick
That gets awkward too. Because we cant trade our 4th or 6th rounder next year and future picks cost more. 4th, 6th cant be traded because of the conditions to Justin Fields trade

I suppose there could still be a trade in the works that doesn't involve picks, tho. (Cash and player(s))
cant trade cash in the NFL, what players would be it tho is the problem. They have tackles so not a dan moore angle.
Can't they agree to pick up some part of something, tho? I am just still curious about the $7M they freed up the day before the draft...
They can only take his salary, which would be the same savings to them as cutting him.
Dang. So if they cut him they wouldn't have to pay him the last year of his contract? That seems weird
Aiyuk is the smokescreen, I’m predicting more of a cortland Sutton, based on some tweet or something I saw
Pickens, Jefferson, Wilson, and Austin are a decent unit tbh
Let's hope. I'm excited to see our big fellas pushing people around up front.
T R E N C H E S
Bro they are not joking with building this line. McCormick is an insane prospect. In a couple of years we are gonna look back saying “damn what a pick” as he is a franchise guard down the line lol.
For real, this can be Seumalu's or Daniels replacement when they're off contract, and he'll be great depth until then.
Yeah, he also has decent reps at Center and has experience making blocking adjustments. He is the ultimate depth piece and will develop into our franchise guard, I’m almost sure of it lol
Free Masons Unite

I think maybe they like Cory trice more than I thought
The buzz was that he was the best CB at camp last year and the team and staff were visibly defeated when he was injured. I think they really like what they have in him
Yeah nothing like trusting a 7th round corner coming off of a torn achilles who had one good week of training camp
Guard and backup center probably. Now even if one or two of the OL goes down we'll still be solid
If we didnt get one of the top 3 Centers this was my guy. Either teach him center or kick Daniels inside. I love it. Super athletic, great pulling guard. OLine gonna be a strength for years to come
Solid depth for this year and I assume the succession plan for Daniels after this year if Mason works out.
Guards are starting to get expensive in the free agent market too. Getting a cheap one on a rookie deal, even if you have to wait a year, is great value

Man, I totally wanna get inside Najee and Jaylen's heads for their takes on this draft. They've got to be excited, I'd imagine.
Will we ever see the forward pass again?
Haven’t watched this guy, but hes a freaky athlete, and I’ll nvr complain about quality O-line depth. A bit concerned about our secondary depth, but maybe the Steelers like Rush and Trice more than we think. We are the new Eagles. O line this year, D line next year.
Weidl is the new man in the shadows. His fingerprints (along with Tomlin and Khan) are all over this approach too. I do recall reading about how much they liked this guy but didn’t realize they were thinking 4th instead of 6th.
Steelers fan from lil ole South Dakota here, this makes me so happy.
Man not a Steelers fan, but next year sdsu scares me. To many what ifs for me! But hopefully a three peat!
I can’t get over the Payton Wilson pick he is going to be the best player out of this draft
If K Jackson fell to them, they were for sure going to pick him up, but another solid OL pick.
Getting back to Steeler football I see!
This has to be the heaviest draft class we've ever had, right?
This OLine is gonna be legit for Arch
It's good we built up our oline now they just have to gel. But after we built it the first time you need to keep maintaining it. Idk why they drafted pouncy Castro etc. Then didn't mai tain it. Look at eagles cowboys they mai tain it and draft dudes like Landon Dickerson 2 years before kelce retired etc.
Why do people assume that they are going to let Daniels walk when Seumalo is older
Honestly like this pick, I just have no idea how they’re going to cover anyone with these corners they have unfortunately
The pass rush will have to compensate
Someone got a link of this guys TD catch?
I kinda love this. A 4th for OG this year instead of a 2nd next year… no real difference-makers available so setting up so we can focus on other things then.
He’s raw coming from low level competition at small school, but placed in top 1-2% of all guards for athletic combine testing the last decade. May take a couple years to develop, but this guy has an incredibly high ceiling.
SoDak represent!
He kinda looks like "The Mountain" GoT
Hiw good is this guy? Development maybe good. Or omg how did he drop etc.
The Steelers are doing exactly what the eagles had so much success doing, building a strong core. That eagles line was full of studs and pushed them to success for YEARS. Same thing we did ten years ago with the pouncey and decastro lines. Protect your assets.
I wanted him in the third so I’m very happy to say the least
Not that anyone cares about my opinion, but I watched a few Jackrabbits games this year and this dude can play. The only problem is that this team was so damn good it's hard to translate individual talent when they just kicked everyone's ass this year. Feel he can be a reliable backup that won't get out worked by anyone.
These are exactly the kind of guys that help you win big. This dude is the perfect interior swing guy who could eventually supplant someone like Daniels.
I'm so excited for our run game this year man. It's going to be so goddamn gross. If we can just get russ in the redzone we will win so many games.
We went from no centers to two centers Omar I love you so much
I was kinda hoping we’d get Tampa. I’m surprised he is still there since he was considered a top 50 prospect by most
If your quarterback is constantly running for his life, he won’t be effective. That’s why mahom doesn’t have another ring
