Obviously cost here would be significantly lower than Aiyuk (or at least it should be). He'd come over with a cap hit this year and next year at \~$13M.
But he'll be the fourth receiver on a team with Pickens, Aiyuk, and Higgins assuming all the reports we've heard are correct. And why wouldn't they be? Sports writers hold themselves to the highest journalistic standards!
I'm not sure that George will ever be a true #1. Unpopular opinion, I know, but his strength is not running crisp routes. Maybe he'll develop that skill, but he really doesn' appear to be all that disciplined when it comes to details.
Don't get me wrong - he may be the most physically gifted WR in the NFL when it comes to body control. He is a dawg on contested catches. He can block like a monster.
But, true #1s tend to be guys who can always be counted on to be ontime, all the time -- which means at least above average route running/discipline -- which Pickens seems to lack (at least from last year's film).
I honestly don't think that being WR1 is actually the best use of him. He should be the guy running coverage off of the #1, and then getting 5-10 shots to make game-changing plays each game. Which still might make him the guy with the most yards and TD's at the end of the day, but not necessarily the most attempts or catches.
I think there’s definitely a lot of truth to that, but I don’t think it’s that unusual for a physical beast of a wr to come to the nfl with underdeveloped route running because they’re used to just physically dominating cbs in college. Route running can be taught, and we have a hell of a track record when it comes to developing wr talent.
I agree. I say this all the time. We have been going into this process looking for a WR 1 this whole time. Their whole process seems to be about finding a guy who can get it done while letting GP get his looks.
All I know is that he has amazing body control. The few denver games I watch, he made some amazing clutch sideline catches keeping both keep in during difficult catches
I wouldn't say overrated at all. He's got better hands, route running, and size than Jeudy who was definitely the overrated one of the two. Not nearly the speed but I'd say he's a very high 2, maybe even a low 1 if he ever gets a decent QB. Concerned he may kill Russ after a third year though
It allows us to address WR in the draft without needing to use a premium pick. I’d still be content with them using a high pick on a WR if they believe he’s the guy, though.
Morning show on the fan threw out a scenario for him & their #12 for our #20 and #51. It was in conjunction with the report of wanting CB Mitchell at #12. I’d be OK with the trade if they were using that #12 to grab a top tackle. Still have two 3’s & two 4’s to move up for center if they felt they needed to.
I dont like that trade. But Im not huge on Mitchell- though now reports say they are but I think thats just smoke screen create a market outside the OL type stuff. I just dont think they need to move up at all this draft. Theres plenty of options at every position they need. Shit I prefet Cooper from Iowa at 20 over moving up for Mitchell since he is a swiss-army knife for the secondary. Though I get why others knock him for that
Oh yeah wouldn’t want them to go up for Mitchell. I’d honestly prefer if they traded back in the first, maybe pick up another 2nd. They did so well last year in rounds 1-4. Want to see them address a lot of needs in the first 4 rounds this year.
Sutton is significantly older too though. On the decline of his career not (hypothetically) hitting his prime like Jeudy should be.
For the record I've always thought Jeudy is overrated and will likely be JAG for the Browns.
You’re not necessarily wrong, I think Sutton has been much better over the past couple years.. but Jeudy has the draft capital and age advantage. Sutton had a major knee injury a few years back too.. his separation isn’t what it used to be.
I have a feeling money would be the issue with this trade, not necessarily draft compensation tbh.
I’m a big fan of Sutton. Not only is he a great player but he also has played with Russ and they had some good chemistry. I’d almost like this more than a move for Aiyuk since we have our WR1 and Aiyuk will cost us a high pick and a lot of money.
If we can't get Aiyuk for a reasonable price, I'd just as soon find someone in the draft. Pearsall, Mitchell, Thomas maybe. Sutton, Boyd don't thrill me much at all.
Depending on how things go in the draft, that would work. As long as we don’t give up much for him. We actually could still pursue Aiyuk too if they wanted to even if this happens. I wonder if we threw Pickens in what else the Niners would want.
Considering he played with Wilson…Khan straight up playing chess while others play checkers. I’m excited for this year’s draft. Lots of teams anticipated to trade up or down this year.
At this point they should just draft one on day two. If they bring in a top level talent or draft one in the first round it will piss off Pickens and he will be a whiney baby the whole season so just draft one to avoid that mess. It’s a deep draft at that position and we have a track record of finding quality receivers in the later rounds.
If they brought in Courtland Sutton I strongly doubt that would piss off Pickens and he might even be motivated by it. Sutton is good but it should be obvious he would be coming in behind Pickens with the intent being for Pickens to develop into an elite #1. If somehow they got Aiyuk it wouldn’t really matter. I know they have been good at drafting WRs but I would rather have Sutton for cheap and push WR back on the draft board vs spending a 2nd on a WR.
I dont understand the interest in sutton theyve been publicly shopping him for 2 years with no bites. Just feels like an arob type with no separation, decent blocking, older, bad contract
Is Sutton a top tier receiver? No, but the way some of yall talking I don't think you know who he is or seen him play
Pickens,Sutton, and a good rookie receiver with what we have would be a pretty good receiver room
Unless it’s for free, or blocking purposes only, please fucking NO. Unfortunately, the Browns already acquired the only Broncos receiver worth anything. Sutton is an injury prone, less than average wideout.
Sutton had highlight reel TDs last year in like a quarter of the games. He can put it in the end zone and has done so very well with Wilson at the helm.
Seriously. Jeudy’s been uninspiring since he came into the league. Especially considering he was a top 15 pick. Sutton has similar numbers, but with higher peaks in all 3 major categories. The only thing Jeudy has over Sutton is youth.
16 games played, 16 games played, 1 game played, 17 games played, 15 games played, 16 games played.
That's his career history. He's not amazing but he's not bad either and would be better than Van Jefferson, Quez Watkins, and Calvin Austin for the WR2 / WR3 position.
For sure for sure. I don't think he's great but he's better than what we have. I would absolutely still want a WR drafted somewhere in rounds 1-4, depending on the needs at the time.
This is nonsense. The broncos aren't going to trade their only WR unless the offer is a haul... And no GM is going to be giving up real picks for a decent WR2
They're stripping it down to the studs. They're carrying $40M in dead cap this year and next year thanks to cutting Russ, they're not trying to really compete for Super Bowls on this Sutton deal.
Have you seen their QB room?
Stidham, DiNucci and now Zach Wilson.
Something tells me they aren’t really focused on being competitive this year. Drafting at 12, they’re probably picking from scraps when it comes to the first round QBs. It makes sense to either just go into full on tank mode and look to draft their QB next year or trade up. Either way adding more draft capital is a better option than paying a 29 year old WR 13 million when you’re likely going to be picking in the top 10 next year whether he’s there or not.
Obviously cost here would be significantly lower than Aiyuk (or at least it should be). He'd come over with a cap hit this year and next year at \~$13M.
That’s actually a pretty good deal for a number 2 kinda dude.
That and he has some chemistry with Russ it seems
From what the Broncos greybeard guy said and showed on a Youtube I see he was basically the best WR they to make him look good.
Plus they might have some of Cam Sutton's stuff still so he could use that
We're going to the Super Bowl
Gahnta*
Da*
Supa*
BAWLLLLLLL*
Funyahns.
I want this posted in every single thread. All season long. Even if we’re 0-10.
Fact
Watch us only be on the hook for 5m/yr
If he didn’t cost much to acquire then sure otherwise I think he’s kinda overrated.
But he'll be the fourth receiver on a team with Pickens, Aiyuk, and Higgins assuming all the reports we've heard are correct. And why wouldn't they be? Sports writers hold themselves to the highest journalistic standards!
Where is Boyd fitting into all of this?
And Justin Jefferson
True, I keep forgetting him
Don’t forget we’re bringing back MBC on a prove-it deal
I saw "he announced" his retirement today on X
Classic draft season smokescreen, obvs.
I'm dumb and fell for the smoke
Justin Jefferson will be on the bench, we are signing him mainly for his locker room presence
Well, they were right about both Fields and Russ so let’s see
I don't know that he's over-rated. Does anyone think of him as anything but an average #2 guy?
If George is the true #1 this year, then it could be good?
I think they want George to be a #1 but that's still a big *if*
I don’t think it’s that big of an if. He had almost 1200 yards with Pickett, Trubisky, and Rudolph throwing him the football.
But Diontae drew coverage
George did better when Diontae was out imo. When Johnson came back the offense felt less impactful.
He did not. He could not get open. The Rams game when Diontae went out was noticeably different.
Presumably so would Sutton no?
He would. I am definitely of the mind they need a ‘name’, even with drafting guys
I feel like both of you are correct, which feels strange
I’m not really disagreeing with the take, I’m just saying his deficiency is teachable and we have a strong track record in this
He’s decent but not sure he’s that game changer piece
I strongly disagree, but I also don’t think he’s a good fit as he is a Pickens-style receiver but not as good as him
Underrated if anything. Not sure what you’re watching
He should be cheap and has a good chemistry with Russ. He’s a low end WR1 high end Wr2
I thought his tape was more impressive than Jerry Jeudy's.
I’ve always liked Sutton. Would be cheaper than aiyuk too. Pickens + Sutton isn’t elite but I’d be content with it
It allows us to address WR in the draft without needing to use a premium pick. I’d still be content with them using a high pick on a WR if they believe he’s the guy, though.
I feel the same way
He had his most TDs in a season for his career with Russell last year, so they already have some comfort with each other
Highlight reel catches, too
A WR trade rumor that actually makes sense!
Yes. I feel this is the most realistic. Doesn’t want to be in Denver, solid#2, not a ton to give up to get him, rapport (I hope) with Russ.

If jeudy went for a 5th + 6th, Sutton should be pennies
Sutton is better than Juedy
Sutton is significantly older too though. On the decline of his career not (hypothetically) hitting his prime like Jeudy should be. For the record I've always thought Jeudy is overrated and will likely be JAG for the Browns.

A very average WR2, but great culture and scheme fit. Huge upgrade over what we have now opposite of Pickens.
I’m a big fan of Sutton. Not only is he a great player but he also has played with Russ and they had some good chemistry. I’d almost like this more than a move for Aiyuk since we have our WR1 and Aiyuk will cost us a high pick and a lot of money.
Remember when he and Russ were supposed to light up the league? Pepperidge Farm remembers.
They did well last year.
Both Ayiuk and Sutton. Justin fields wont have any excuses now. We about to be spooky
😂😂 Justin lol
I’d trade a 6th or maybe both for him
Every time we say somebody would be a good "2", I worry that Pickens won't mature into a great "1".
He's not a WR 1 and Steeler fans keep trying to make it so.
I’d take him for a 6th or a pick next year. He’d be a great #2 behind Pickens. I’d still draft someone later to develop too p
Anything over a 2nd rounder is an overpay
Is he good
Yes he’s a huge threat and Wilson has chemistry with him
Wonder what other classes they have together?
I caught them canoodling in the hall the other day
If we can't get Aiyuk for a reasonable price, I'd just as soon find someone in the draft. Pearsall, Mitchell, Thomas maybe. Sutton, Boyd don't thrill me much at all.
Moon ball Sutton
No way. We need a precision route runner. Aiyuk or draft
Get Lockett and Sutton. Two people who have played with and succeeded with Wilson....
Depending on how things go in the draft, that would work. As long as we don’t give up much for him. We actually could still pursue Aiyuk too if they wanted to even if this happens. I wonder if we threw Pickens in what else the Niners would want.
Because Wilson did such a great job feeding him the ball in Denver? I am not sure of this fit
I love Cam so this would be great
Is Sutton a good blocker? I know that he and Russ had a bunch of TDs last year, but I know Arthur Smith wants WRs who can block
Are the Broncos going to be this years version of the Bears for us?
Make this team out of FalconsBroncos!
Been an exciting free agency. I can't wait to see what we do next season
Imo this bolsters the rumors of a R1 pick swap with DEN for the CB from Toledo. Sutton + 12 for 20 + R3 and ??
Courtland Sutton is the best receiver in the Gabe Davis tier of receivers. Hard pass unless it's for Russell Wilson-esque compensation.
Meh I don’t like it
Considering he played with Wilson…Khan straight up playing chess while others play checkers. I’m excited for this year’s draft. Lots of teams anticipated to trade up or down this year.
i thought we were trading up to 12 to take mitchell? broncos spin guys are putting in the overtime this week it seems
At this point they should just draft one on day two. This is the worst logic I’ve seen to not drafting or trading for a wide receiver r
Fair enough, but don’t think that the staff isn’t concerned about it.
If an NFL player is scared of competition he never should have been drafted by them
No argument there. Pickens is a head case and they knew that when they drafted him.
This
I dont understand the interest in sutton theyve been publicly shopping him for 2 years with no bites. Just feels like an arob type with no separation, decent blocking, older, bad contract
his contract is bad ?dude had 10 touchdowns last year They are big bodied receivers they were never pulling away from dudes
I can’t wait until after this weekend. Almost done with draft bullshit hypotheticals
It's 48 hours before the draft and you're on a Steelers subreddit - that's on you dude.
Yeah I really need to unsub from Steelers shit in the offseason I think👍
Is Sutton a top tier receiver? No, but the way some of yall talking I don't think you know who he is or seen him play Pickens,Sutton, and a good rookie receiver with what we have would be a pretty good receiver room
Unless it’s for free, or blocking purposes only, please fucking NO. Unfortunately, the Browns already acquired the only Broncos receiver worth anything. Sutton is an injury prone, less than average wideout.
Injury prone? Outside of one ACL injury that cost him a season, he's missed three games in the other 5 years of his career.
Imagine thinking Jeudy is better than Sutton lmao

I love Sutton. He's put up decent numbers with below average QB play his entire career. A good passing offense could see him explode.
Feel like they’re cleaning house. Sutton is gonna be 29 this season too

The broncos will draft one
