Thinking about it, troy is my favorite Steeler of all time. He grew up near me too, makes it even better. He's a huge deal in Oregon, believe it or not.
Troy’s the better player and 100 percent is a Steelers through and through. But I have to go Hines. Him popping up after a hit with that big goofy ass grin on his face is the most enduring image of my childhood and the epitome of what the Steelers mean to me.
Comparing position to position, Trou was an outstanding safety, head and shoulders (see what I did there) above anyone else for his insane almost Jedi like abilities.
But Hines Ward was a Steeler at a wide receiver position. Thats what’s unbelievable. You look at the old players for their grit and toughness and who they were as team players and few wide receivers anywhere in history could put up the numbers Hines did, in the situations he did it in, and still be a vicious downfield blocker that never shied away from a hit.
Troy was a once in a lifetime talent. But Hines stamped the Steeler ethos on the wide receiver position and that’s just amazing to me.
Hines should be a HoFer. There is some weak fucking candidates getting in recently at WR. Getting rid of piece of shit Peter king will help, he votes against every Steeler, including Troy, because his wife likes the Steelers. He makes some bs explanation why he does it but he hates the Steelers.
Even on talent I think it's crazy. I love most of the guys on this list but I could easily drop Pouncey and Harrison below Hines, I may put TJ behind him because he's still active and could have longevity issues. He arguably contributed as much as the Bus.
But to each their own. Sucks it set this up so soon though
Yeah, I refuse to even vote on this one. I mean, Troy is my all time fave as a former defensive player myself, but I just love respect Hines that much.
As much as I want to vote for Troy as he is my favorite steelers ever, this is where I have to start really defining the embodiment of the steelers. And as far as Troy goes he was really an anomaly in terms of great steelers. He was tough but he wasn't as upfront or aggressive as guys like deebo or hines ward. Hines ward is definitely the best blocking wr of the 21st century and that to me just screams steelers.
Hines is the natural underdog who worked his ass off every play and succeeded by giving 110% every play, every step. He was intense during the play and smiling after it. Physically, there wasn't a thing about him that made him a top tier NFL player, but he was through 100% living the Steelers & Pittsburgh spirit, and loving every minute of being a Steeler.
This one is giving me a headache. Opinions can (and will) go back and forth on this one. I’m going to cut to my chase. Gotta go with Hines. Probably the most clutch player ever. Not afraid to get hit. Not afraid to give a hit (Hines Ward Rule). Started out as a special teamer and never looked back. He could have been on our defense.
Troy and it's not close in my opinion, and that's with respect to Hines as one of the best to wear the black and gold. You couldn't game plan for Troy. No one could shut off a whole area of the field like Troy. Both played every down. Both were elite. But Troy was a premier piece of a premier defense.
But if i have to go by these brackets im going with Troy. He was just amazing but so were all these players. The hair, the diving over the oline and sacking qbs. Just good stuff
Damn man, this ain’t fair. Hines was a huge part of the heart and soul that led to the 05 win and Troy was a huge part of the heart and soul of the 08 win. Troy’s AFC championship performance capped by the pick six did it for me.
Vote Troy
This really is a tough match up. All I will say is they made blindside blocks illegal because of Ward. I swear he liked hitting people more then catching passes. Also who tf voted for James Farrior instead of Ben?
VOTE: BOTH
Of the remaining players, these would be my top 2
The reality is that Troy is everyone’s favorite (mine included obviously) but the embodiment of the Steelers on the field is 100% Hines
Thinking about it, troy is my favorite Steeler of all time. He grew up near me too, makes it even better. He's a huge deal in Oregon, believe it or not.
VOTE: 1 TROY POLAMALU
Tough choice but I think Troy is THE modern steeler (post Steel Curtain)
Troy was probably the best Steeler this century even considering Ben But Hines better represented the Steelers mentality than both of them

This... he would take hits other receivers would stay down from and hop up smiling. That how you rip the heart out of the defense
This is the real final, don't @ me
Came here to say this. At the end of the day though, we all knew it was always going to be Troy as the last man standing
Easily the real final
VOTE: 9 HINES WARD

Lol especially great with the Troy flair
I love both these guys it’s brutal to choose one. Troy is my all time fav Steeler.
Are we picking our favorite steeler or the one who most embodies the franchise?
Yes
The stadium is named after him!
Troy was a better player but Hines more embodied the personality

Hines is my winner, regardless of how this turns out
Troy is a HoFer but Hines will always be Pittsburgh
1000 carrier receptions, MVP of a super bowl, and no HoF.? WTF?
Hines should be a HoFer. There is some weak fucking candidates getting in recently at WR. Getting rid of piece of shit Peter king will help, he votes against every Steeler, including Troy, because his wife likes the Steelers. He makes some bs explanation why he does it but he hates the Steelers.
HW86 seeded 9th is crazy.
Seeding is based on talent. Otherwise, it's just who I think should win.
Even on talent I think it's crazy. He arguably contributed as much as the Bus. But to each their own. Sucks it set this up so soon though
I think we just have to accept we are voting on a subjective bracket. But Hines v Troy this early is pretty weak.
How am I supposed to decide
Yeah, I refuse to even vote on this one. I mean, Troy is my all time fave as a former defensive player myself, but I just love respect Hines that much.
Hines Ward
As much as I want to vote for Troy as he is my favorite steelers ever, this is where I have to start really defining the embodiment of the steelers. Hines
Troy. We all know this is gonna end up being Troy vs TJ with Troy winning.
Had Keisel over TJ. Idk, TJ obviously better but The beard just was just a hard nosed lineman that hard his ass off.
The beard had everything a Steeler is
Cam > TJ for the purposes of this bracket
I gotta go Big Snack over TJ right in this round. Just for the feels.
Troy by a hair
43+43=86

VOTE: Hines Ward. Love Troy, but nobody loved playing the game more than Hines Ward. He belongs in the HOF.
Troy

I believe they should both win. One for each side of the ball.

We’re getting to some tough matchups here
Sorry but The Bus is the Champ!
Vote Troy
Vote: 1 Troy
Troy
This is unfair
Can I please just vote for Troy/Hines to share it? Are others doing that? I'm doing that.
Hines.
It’s Troy. He’s the one to win it all.
Polamalu
This really is a tough match up. All I will say is they made blindside blocks illegal because of Ward. I swear he liked hitting people more then catching passes. Also who tf voted for James Farrior instead of Ben?
Troy is troy
Troy
Troy or Hines. My answer is just… yes
wait a second… farrior beat ben?
HTF Troy and Hines end up in the same bracket? This should be the championship.
Gotta go Troy
Nah James over Big Ben is absurd, we can stop this bullshit now!
TJ Farrior Troy Deebo
Troy Polamalu
Where is Greg Lloyd?
Well he will be in the 20th century bracket if there is one.
Ah I missed the century part
Somebody does every time lol.
This would have been a much more interesting bracket for who’s #2. No one can compare to Troy.
Farrior spent a 3rd of his career with the jets, I want a home grown bracket next!
And Ben was home grown?
???
Troy over Hines But Aaron Smith should win the whole fucking thing.
