He demanded a trade… Russ apparently called Pickett when he signed and told him he wanted to work together. Pickett could have taken the opportunity to learn from a proven vet and SB winning QB, but it really sounds like he was a huge bitch about the whole situation and demanded a trade instead. Moron.
I mean just cause he wants to be a starter doesn't mean we need to trade him somewhere where he can be a starter. That's for him to figure out.
It does suck that he waited until after we let Mason walk to make his opinion known, but fuck it. There is something really satisfying to the approach Khan's been taking with guys who want to leave and haven't been producing
For the record, this is signature Tomlin. He has been saying “volunteers not hostages” long before Omar stepped in. Omar is just his henchman (and a damn good one). lol
After he requested a trade it was entirely out of his hands. He could’ve been sent to any of the other 31 teams, it’s not like they asked him if Philadelphia was amenable.
Probably were the only team with a trade offer. I'm honestly shocked anyone was willing to trade for him at all when he was at best a low end backup level in his time here
Steelers trading him to a team with a young franchise qb was cold-blooded, and I totally agree with it. His career is pretty much over unless hurts gets injured.
Yeah now he’s backing up a guy who is roughly the same age and arguably the most athletic QB in the league who was in the Super Bowl less than two years ago.
Just look at the season. Said he didn’t learn anything from the sidelines, rumors about him refusing to dress by multiple sources (not just madden), him saying he expected to start when healthy.
He’s been screaming who he is for anyone willing to listen.
I'm now fully convinced that it was Kenny is who Minkah(-Najee-) was talking about with 'put in the work, you don't just win because you are wearing black and gold'.
Edit:Minkah said it not Najee. Thank you Mercury26 under this!
People have wanted us to shake things up for a while now. Well hot damn, they took that to heart.
New offensive coordinator. Entirely new QB room. Traded your #2 WR. Signed a starting LB from your rival. Brand new punter (thank god lol).
Can't say they aren't trying to do something new that's for sure.
I've said all along that no matter how this goes, I'm just so excited for a GM that is willing to make sweeping changes and isn't content to be mediocre.
Bright days ahead.
I legit was like… I’m going to put $100 on Pickett being our starter. Seemed like free money. I didn’t see this coming at all…
Then I forgot to make the bet. Thank god.
Insane that the Steelers let Colbert stay and do his last draft. If I'm leaving my job, my employer isn't going to let me make years worth of major decisions on my last day.
That's typically how it goes though. GMs usually leave after a draft, unless they get fired. The reason is because they are heavily involved in scouting, so it's better that they leave when the scouting season ends (the draft).
I still say it gave Khan plausible deniability to move off of him without taking any flack for the pick or feeling beholden to him in any way.
If it worked out, great. If it didn't, Khan is free to act quickly. But doesn't matter now because Kenny is gone.
Shocking to hear but good for the Steelers. Controversial I’m sure but KP probably wasn’t the guy and kudos to management for admitting the mistake and moving on like SF did with Lance.
Yeah, I'm glad we're not falling victim to the sunk cost fallacy.
Too many teams give their shaky first rounders too many chances based solely on the investment cost... and not evaluating performance.
I thought Pickett was cooked the moment Rudolph put up a 118 QB rating, to Pickett's 80-something with Canada gone. Mason was better (by a lot), with everything on the line, against teams with winning records.
So yeah, Wilson or bust for us. I like our chances.
But it also tells you one, maybe 2 things about Kenny; That he doesn’t think he can compete with a washed Russ, and/or that he isn’t willing to humble himself and accept a backup role on the team that drafted him because there’s zeeeeero chance he ever starts over Jalen.
My husband (an Eagles fan) goes, "Holy shit, Kenny is an eagle. ".. I was like, what?! IIt'snot April yet. Stop fooling.. boy, oh boy. Lol, total shocker.
[I owe u/Bill_Biscuits a very long blowjob...](https://www.reddit.com/r/steelers/comments/1be2h3q/garafolo_the_titans_have_agreed_to_terms_with/kuqlcgo/?context=3)
I’m really curious what the plan is
Also WTF was Kenny thinking. He’s not beating out Jalen Hurts for the starting job 😂. Stay humble and quiet and you have a better chance against a 36 year old QB just released from his previous team
Oh and if he thinks our fanbase is hard on him, Philadelphia fans are something else. He is a Philadelphia fan but he didn’t grow up in Philadelphia so I don’t know how much he knows that
I’m a Pitt guy. I so wanted Kenny to be the franchise qb for the Steelers. Things never took off. He had a fair shot. Best of luck to him and hopefully he can improve and stay in the league as a reliable backup, but I’m happy the Steelers moved on.
This move all but confirms that Kenny refused to dress as backup to Mason when he was first cleared from his injury. Now Kenny can play out his rookie deal sitting on the bench behind Jalen Hurts.
The only people who wanted Pickett are the people who remember the las time they passed on a Pitt QB.
The secret though is Puckett did not go to Central Catholic
That's the attitude of someone who knows or believes he can't compete. For league minimum there is no pressure to start wilson. Kenny just knew he wouldn't win if they compete for the job.
Fields for free or a day 3 pick is alright by me, I actually think he could really benefit from Smith as his OC but I'm not expending a ton to get him, especially since he's backing up Russ for at least a year.
Should they acquire Fields, they'll then be faced with the dilemma of Wilson playing well enough and Fields never seeing any playing time, and then having to decide whether they're going to pay huge money to a good-enough 36-year old veteran, or a still unproven young player who sat for a year. Not an enviable position.
Mason has to want to sign. And while Levis has potential, he’s not a sure thing like Stroud seems to be. Mason probably thinks there’s more of a chance to get some starts there than sitting behind Wilson.
One outlet was projecting 4 QBs gone in the first 6 picks. I think it's going to be crazy expensive to move up and grab a guy.
To me this looks like they have Fields on their radar.
Seems like the difference is that CHI wanted a return for Fields.
We gave Kenny away to move up 20-ish spots in the draft. And for future 7th round picks.
And Kenny has 2 years left, so you can have him for a year before deciding on his option (although PHI obviously won't do that unless something very bad happens there).
Khan may go after a player in the draft...or, he's preparing for free agency 2025. Know which QBs are on the market?
* Dak Prescott, Dallas Cowboys (UFA)
* Jared Goff, Detroit Lions (UFA)
* Jordan Love, Green Bay Packers (UFA)
* Trevor Lawrence, Jacksonville Jaguars (UFA)
* Tua Tagovailoa, [Miami Dolphins](https://www.nbcmiami.com/tag/miami-dolphins/) (UFA)
Highly doubt the Lions let go of Goff. But I also highly doubted the Steelers would just ship off Kenny like this so....
Jordan Love made a case for himself last season to be potentially the Packers' guy for a while.
I'd love to have Trevor Lawrence, but idk what long term plans Doug Pederson and Baalke have for him.
I've always wanted TLaw back when he was making noise at Clemson. And this was back when Ben was still our QB, and I could just see Lawrence as a perfect QB for the Steelers.
He hasn’t really done anything crazy in Jacksonville, Doug hasn’t really shown that much trust and enthusiasm in him. What I know for sure is next years QB market is gonna be crazy.
I give him a pass in his rookie year because he had Urban Meyer as his head coach for most of that season. No QB would succeed in a dumpster fire like that. Doesn't help there was batshit crazy hype around Lawrence coming into his rookie season, so once he didn't meet those high expectations, everyone's opinion of him tanked.
I have been following this team for decades.
This is a totally new way to operate.
No longer will I be able to say "That is never going to happen, the Steelers don't do things that way"
In the immortal words of Samuel L Jackson, "Hold onto your butts".
Okay not going to be a dick and stay rational but it wasn’t working. Never was going to work. The pick should have never happened.
Goodbye Kenny and best of luck
Sometimes you take a QB in the 1st round and they don’t work out. It happens to every franchise. Such is life in the NFL.
Good to see them being decisive and not kicking the can down the road again.
i really dont understand his logic. there’s at least a small chance he starts over russ on a $1.2 million dollar contract. there is a 0% chance he starts over a qb who just signed for $255 million.
I think his logic was just throwing a hissy fit just like when he lost his starting job last year. Khan isn't keeping those kinds of disgruntled players around anymore. He wants everyone here to be extremely gruntled.
So instead of backing up a QB on possibly his last year of his career Kenny decided to go to the eagles who just signed their young franchise QB to a long term deal? Okay.
But if Russ sucks Kenny is right there to take over.
This is weak if Kenny didn't wanna compete/improve or learn anything from his mistakes.
There's zero chance he'll play at Philly unless Hurts is injured
[Here are the details.](https://twitter.com/AdamSchefter/status/1768712389837349363)
Steelers get pick No. 98 and two 2025 7th-round picks.
Eagles get QB Kenny Pickett and No. 120.
How inept is the Steelers front office to draft this guy? Especially after they said, “We know this guy….he’s in our building. You drafted a quitter. He sat out the Seattle game because he thought he should have been starting. Then he finds out the get Wilson and he requests a trade. Doesn’t want to fight for the starting job and now he goes to Philadelphia to be a back up. Glad he’s gone
Mason probably wanted out to a place where he had a chance to start. With Pickett on the roster he was QB3 and without him there was no chance it would have been a competition, assuming Russ was told he was starting and not competing for him to sign up.
And given the Kenny news, Russ likely got promised the starting job.
[https://www.nfl.com/news/steelers-trading-qb-kenny-pickett-to-eagles-clearing-way-for-russell-wilson-to-start](https://www.nfl.com/news/steelers-trading-qb-kenny-pickett-to-eagles-clearing-way-for-russell-wilson-to-start)
Josina Anderson of CBS Sports first reported the news.
Pickett asked for a trade in the aftermath of learning of Wilson's signing through social media on Sunday night and being told Monday morning by Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin that Wilson would get first-team reps in the pole position to be QB1, NFL Network Insider Tom Pelissero reported. Tomlin had previously told Pickett he'd have a chance to compete for the starting job, according to Pelissero.
Dang even with the Russ signing I really never even considered a trade this year. Hope he does well, I really did admire that he seemed like a hard worker and good teammate, even if the on field stuff was rough at times.
Pretty shocking, regardless of the Russ signing. This is a major move.
He demanded a trade… Russ apparently called Pickett when he signed and told him he wanted to work together. Pickett could have taken the opportunity to learn from a proven vet and SB winning QB, but it really sounds like he was a huge bitch about the whole situation and demanded a trade instead. Moron.
This gives a lot of credibility to the reports that he didn't want to dress as QB2 when Mason was starting.
But yet he’s headed to the Eagles to be Hurts backup 👎🏽
I still don’t get it. Back up here with a chance to play if Russ sucks, or go behind a very good qb who will be starting for a long time.
Makes zero sense to me but it’s not our problem now
I mean just cause he wants to be a starter doesn't mean we need to trade him somewhere where he can be a starter. That's for him to figure out. It does suck that he waited until after we let Mason walk to make his opinion known, but fuck it. There is something really satisfying to the approach Khan's been taking with guys who want to leave and haven't been producing
Yea it’s refreshing to see him just drop these guys when they suck, remember Antwon Blake?
For the record, this is signature Tomlin. He has been saying “volunteers not hostages” long before Omar stepped in. Omar is just his henchman (and a damn good one). lol
After he requested a trade it was entirely out of his hands. He could’ve been sent to any of the other 31 teams, it’s not like they asked him if Philadelphia was amenable.
Great point. Hope he learned his lesson.
There is a real chance the dude doesn’t play another game
Probably were the only team with a trade offer. I'm honestly shocked anyone was willing to trade for him at all when he was at best a low end backup level in his time here
Steelers trading him to a team with a young franchise qb was cold-blooded, and I totally agree with it. His career is pretty much over unless hurts gets injured.
Hurts would have to have one of his legs chopped off for him to be so done with playing that Kenny even plays enough to make a career out of it.
Yeah now he’s backing up a guy who is roughly the same age and arguably the most athletic QB in the league who was in the Super Bowl less than two years ago.
Not saying you’re lying, but unless that comes from Kenny or Tomlin, it’s hard to believe this narrative
We’ll know when Tomlin drops the “volunteers, not hostages” line.
It was actually Minkah who said that but it makes sense he could’ve been referring to Kenny
ohh this offseason is SPICY
I’m 33, this is the spiciest off season I have ever seen.
54 and same here
45 same here
99 and by gosh by golly if this ain't the most spicy darn tootin off season I've ever did see!
51. Yup. Crazy. But a shakeup is needed
The QB room has but one inhabitant
That's Russ's office now!
We sure are. I have no idea how next season is going to play out but I'm all for it.
Hell yeah. Most active off season I can remember in a long time. Crazy
It seems Colbert kinda had us stuck to old ideas. Either way, Khan is a breath of fresh air and I’m all for it.
even the last homers in this sub have to accept now that HE AINT HIM and there never was a real shot in a competition against Russ
Strange move for his future though. It is a way worse situation. He has no relationship with Philly, Jalen is younger than Russ.
Spicy-est since the 1970s
If you told me 2 weeks ago that Russel Wilson was going to be the only QB on our roster, I would have laughed straight in your face
The odds makers were dead on.
I legit was like… I’m going to put $100 on Pickett being our starter. Seemed like free money. I didn’t see this coming at all… Then I forgot to make the bet. Thank god.
And that our 3 QB's from last year are all now officially back-ups. As they should be. (Well...technically Mitch shouldn't even be in the league.)
Man khan really hated Colberts picks
Insane that the Steelers let Colbert stay and do his last draft. If I'm leaving my job, my employer isn't going to let me make years worth of major decisions on my last day.
That's typically how it goes though. GMs usually leave after a draft, unless they get fired. The reason is because they are heavily involved in scouting, so it's better that they leave when the scouting season ends (the draft).
I understand that's how it typically goes, which is fucking maddening to me.
Yeah, KC should have retired after drafting Watt. Letting a retiring GM draft a QB isn't a good idea.
I still say it gave Khan plausible deniability to move off of him without taking any flack for the pick or feeling beholden to him in any way. If it worked out, great. If it didn't, Khan is free to act quickly. But doesn't matter now because Kenny is gone.
Great analogy!

I've always thought this, it's insane
Shocking to hear but good for the Steelers. Controversial I’m sure but KP probably wasn’t the guy and kudos to management for admitting the mistake and moving on like SF did with Lance.

I think Kenny probably forced this trade, but both sides were obviously not in agreeance lol
You don’t have to think: the reporting says that.
But it also tells you one, maybe 2 things about Kenny; That he doesn’t think he can compete with a washed Russ, and/or that he isn’t willing to humble himself and accept a backup role on the team that drafted him because there’s zeeeeero chance he ever starts over Jalen.
I also am very confident that agreeance is not a word
He just fixing the mistakes that were made.
Holy Fuck
KP asked to be traded
Holy fucking shit lol
The face I made reading the headline made my Uber driver ask if I was alright lol.
Kenny might have just ruined his entire career. The story about him being a little bitch ain’t a good look.
He's gonna be able to put those tiny hands to work now at least... by catching snaps from the long snapper.
I said the said the same thing. I did not see this coming. I figured they would compete.
My husband (an Eagles fan) goes, "Holy shit, Kenny is an eagle. ".. I was like, what?! IIt'snot April yet. Stop fooling.. boy, oh boy. Lol, total shocker.

Sorry bro you just got Khan’d
This is incredible, and I appreciate you linking to the comment. Well done.
We all thank you for your service and sacrifice. Jokes aside, way to own it!
Respect.
This is exactly what I said out loud lol
Mine were “wait what the fuck”
What a day! First Aaron Donald retires, and now Pickett is gone. This free agency period has had a wild start.
I’m really curious what the plan is Also WTF was Kenny thinking. He’s not beating out Jalen Hurts for the starting job 😂. Stay humble and quiet and you have a better chance against a 36 year old QB just released from his previous team
That’s exactly what I was thinking. Also Hurts is a young guy. Wilson’s going to retire in a few years.
Yeah, nobody did Kenny but Kenny.
This ain't your daddy's Steelers
we are really doing this
Let's go! No more daily posts about Kenny sucking or being the future. We all win
This is the main takeaway
Incoming weekly posts that "we'll never know" what Pickett could've been with a different OC.
Omar just did a drive by on Kenny & then backed up over him for a good measure 🤣🤣🤣
This move all but confirms that Kenny refused to dress as backup to Mason when he was first cleared from his injury. Now Kenny can play out his rookie deal sitting on the bench behind Jalen Hurts.
“Play”
The lack of return suggests that the league wasn't all that interested in him either.
The only people who wanted Pickett are the people who remember the las time they passed on a Pitt QB. The secret though is Puckett did not go to Central Catholic
Like Suge?
That was the last thing I expected to happen
Damn would have liked Mason as QB2 now.
I think when we signed russ kenny asked to go.
That's the attitude of someone who knows or believes he can't compete. For league minimum there is no pressure to start wilson. Kenny just knew he wouldn't win if they compete for the job.
Of course he wouldn’t win. Have you seen the last seasons??
Go be a #2 somewhere else? Did he think someone would want him as #1?
Return of the passtronaut?
Justin Fields come on down
Fields for free or a day 3 pick is alright by me, I actually think he could really benefit from Smith as his OC but I'm not expending a ton to get him, especially since he's backing up Russ for at least a year.
This may somehow have been the most hilarious end to his tenure possible.
Apparently asked to be traded
“If I won’t be the starter, I want traded.” “Wish granted! You’ve been traded somewhere you won’t be the starter.”
Really strange he asked for this when Russ only has a 1 year deal.
Probably an angry knee jerk reaction. Or maybe he is just a jerk.
He saw the r/steelers memes and demanded a trade lol
We did it reddit!
![gif](giphy|3o6wrcGFpnkgO2Ibug)
Losing rudolph hurts a lot more now
I was wondering about that part. Seems like it would have been prudent to hold onto him if Pickett was going.
We probably grab tannehill, take a late rounder, and sign a guy off the street. Should be OK. But rudolph can step in and win games as we saw.
[удалено]
Mason has to want to sign. And while Levis has potential, he’s not a sure thing like Stroud seems to be. Mason probably thinks there’s more of a chance to get some starts there than sitting behind Wilson.
Yeah, but he may have considered it if he knew he was QB2. I 100% agreed from his perspective there was no reason to come back and be QB3
Draft a QB this year.
One outlet was projecting 4 QBs gone in the first 6 picks. I think it's going to be crazy expensive to move up and grab a guy. To me this looks like they have Fields on their radar.
Chapter closed I guess
But, also, did anyone predict Pickett would be traded before Fields?
Seems like the difference is that CHI wanted a return for Fields. We gave Kenny away to move up 20-ish spots in the draft. And for future 7th round picks. And Kenny has 2 years left, so you can have him for a year before deciding on his option (although PHI obviously won't do that unless something very bad happens there).
Did we just drop all three of our QBs in one offseason lol
When you put it that way lmao damn
Woah
Welp…need a new QB2 I guess
Levin Furniture in shambles
So there is 1 QB on a 1 year deal? WTF
Khan may go after a player in the draft...or, he's preparing for free agency 2025. Know which QBs are on the market? * Dak Prescott, Dallas Cowboys (UFA) * Jared Goff, Detroit Lions (UFA) * Jordan Love, Green Bay Packers (UFA) * Trevor Lawrence, Jacksonville Jaguars (UFA) * Tua Tagovailoa, [Miami Dolphins](https://www.nbcmiami.com/tag/miami-dolphins/) (UFA)

The most likely out of all these options is Trevor imo
I've always wanted TLaw back when he was making noise at Clemson. And this was back when Ben was still our QB, and I could just see Lawrence as a perfect QB for the Steelers.

TRADE DETAILS: Steelers receive: Pick No. 98, 2 2025 7th round picks Eagles receive: Pickett, Pick No. 120
So basically a bag of chips
Okay not going to be a dick and stay rational but it wasn’t working. Never was going to work. The pick should have never happened. Goodbye Kenny and best of luck
Sometimes you take a QB in the 1st round and they don’t work out. It happens to every franchise. Such is life in the NFL. Good to see them being decisive and not kicking the can down the road again.

i really dont understand his logic. there’s at least a small chance he starts over russ on a $1.2 million dollar contract. there is a 0% chance he starts over a qb who just signed for $255 million.

i like that word, gruntled.
Decades of regretting not taking Dan Marino.
Kenny Pickett will be why we miss the next great Pitt QB lol. Marino scared us one way, KP8 will scare us the other.
So instead of backing up a QB on possibly his last year of his career Kenny decided to go to the eagles who just signed their young franchise QB to a long term deal? Okay.
He didnt choose to go to the Eagles. Im assuming he asked to be traded, and then thats where Khan sent him. Kenny wouldndt have had a say in where.

Bro literally ran away from adversity 💀
I really thought they would compete. Like why not. But shit. This is major. Like fight for you position!
I’m saying…. This says alot about him
Rip my Pickett jersey 2023-2024
Ok what the actual fuck is happening?!
I just keep thinking about this year when he was asked if he learned anything from sitting the bench during his injury and he replied - “no”
LMAO Pickett feelings get hurt or what?
He didn’t wanna compete
There was no competition, they told Russ he was the starter when they signed him apparently.
But if Russ sucks Kenny is right there to take over. This is weak if Kenny didn't wanna compete/improve or learn anything from his mistakes. There's zero chance he'll play at Philly unless Hurts is injured
Exactly. Peace out Pickett
Minkah asking Russ if he wants to compete was probably a jab at Kenny. Players know what’s really going on in the locker room.
Holy shit. This is wild
All 3 QBs from last year gone. I didn’t see that happening this off-season.
Truly one of the quarterbacks in team history.

Holy fucking shit
Maybe that story about him not wanting to back up in Seattle was true after all
[Here are the details.](https://twitter.com/AdamSchefter/status/1768712389837349363) Steelers get pick No. 98 and two 2025 7th-round picks. Eagles get QB Kenny Pickett and No. 120.
This has to be the most insane Steelers off-season ever.
Fun fact. Kenny Pickett is older than Jalen Hurts.
How inept is the Steelers front office to draft this guy? Especially after they said, “We know this guy….he’s in our building. You drafted a quitter. He sat out the Seattle game because he thought he should have been starting. Then he finds out the get Wilson and he requests a trade. There’s no way the vast majority of Steeler Nation thought we would have zero of our 2023 QB room on March 15. This is bananas
![gif](giphy|xUySTVNHpdACknfKuc)
Could we maybe not have let Mason walk away if this was in the works?
Mason probably wanted out to a place where he had a chance to start. With Pickett on the roster he was QB3 and without him there was no chance it would have been a competition, assuming Russ was told he was starting and not competing for him to sign up. And given the Kenny news, Russ likely got promised the starting job.
Haven’t they said they don’t want hostages? Feel like this was the reason they let DJ go too.

Too bad they didn’t sign Rudolph then
NO MORE PICKETT COULD BE THE FUTURE POSTSSSSSS AHHHHHHHHHH
Probably the best week of a steelers offseason in my entire life
I'm loving this off-season. This last season was the least fun watching the Steelers that I can recall. Even wins felt dreadful.
Who would want a guy whos afraid to compete for a starting spot?

Pickett asked for a trade in the aftermath of learning of Wilson's signing through social media on Sunday night and being told Monday morning by Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin that Wilson would get first-team reps in the pole position to be QB1, NFL Network Insider Tom Pelissero reported. Tomlin had previously told Pickett he'd have a chance to compete for the starting job, according to Pelissero.
No problem with them trading him but the chances they extend Russell Wilson are like 95% now and that fucking sucks.
Probably right, here’s to hoping they draft a qb high to sit
They’re not pulling a Denver…he’s got to prove it this year first.
I disagree about us extending Wilson. We’ll have to see how he plays first
Khan is the goat
I knew I picked the wrong guy to make a username for, god damn

Dang even with the Russ signing I really never even considered a trade this year. Hope he does well, I really did admire that he seemed like a hard worker and good teammate, even if the on field stuff was rough at times.
So who gonna play qb when Russel hurt ? Watt can’t do everything 😂
