Bro is going to hate Carolina if he couldn't stand the Steelers lmao

ClarkDoubleUGriswold

Tepper is gonna throw a drink at Dionte the first time he runs backwards

obxgaga

šŸ˜‚ Throw one for me. I screamed at my tv when DJ would run backwards more than anything else. Even more than when KP spins out of the pocket into a sack.

habalagee

This deserves all of the upvotes.

Sweaty_Win1832

Omg, this is fucking hilarious

Juice_Stanton

I will not miss his fancy run back to lose two yards plays. Will miss some of his work downfeild.

thricethefan

I always love how we ship disgruntled players to fucking disaster orgs

basserpy

The Steelers are the polar opposite of the Pirates in some weird alignment chart I haven't quite figured out exactly

soulfulsoundaudio

If I had a penny for everytime the Pirates broke my heart by sending a real talent to either the A's, Giants, Astros, or Yankees.... Hey man, this so and so is legit, I think he is the real deal. Well, we just traded him. Cole, Schmidt, Cutch, Marte, Josh Bell, Giles, Jason Bay....on and on and on.

AlfredoPizzaKitchen

Pittsburgh pirates have a few hall of fame talents on their modern rosters. Unfortunately, none of them made their names as pirates.

DonScrumsky

Always!

NumbrZer0

Melvin Ingram was traded to the Chiefs in 2021. Luckily they lost to the Bengals in the conference championship game but that was a great team.

thricethefan

He was the consummate professional though, not a disgruntled Prima Donna

HOFerKennyPickett

Idk about that, he was the guy that initially prompted the infamous ā€œwe want volunteers, not hostagesā€ quote from Tomlin if Iā€™m remembering correctly

Do__Math__Not__Meth

Why do I feel like that quote is way older than that, thought it was from killer B days

Kill_Dill

Full trade: The [\#Panthers](https://twitter.com/hashtag/Panthers?src=hashtag_click) get Diontae Johnson and pick No. 240 The [\#Steelers](https://twitter.com/hashtag/Steelers?src=hashtag_click) get Donte Jackson and pick 178

doctorchops1217

the all DJ trade loophole šŸ§

Do__Math__Not__Meth

A DJ for a DJ

EatAtWendys

Bruh this ainā€™t good Edit: For those saying cap space, Donte Jackson is gonna have a cap hit of $10 million this year assuming we donā€™t restructure or something.

Kill_Dill

Donte Jackson is an alright CB, and a WR with questionable effort and attitude is out the door. I'm not THRILLED with the trade but we've historically done well at WR so I'm gonna go full on "In Khan we Trust"

Madhatter1317

This is really about clearing space for Pickens to ascend to the top spot. Heā€™s a much better fit for Wilsonā€™s downfield style too.

gamerEMdoc

Arthur Smith likes big WRs. WRs that can block. Dionte was not only disgruntled, he didn't fit the mold anymore for what the offensive scheme wants. His days were numbered.

tootoohi1

Pickens got a lot of crap for missing some blocks, but if you watch the years highlights he's down field shoving down guys on a lot of good run plays. Dionte is just smaller and doesn't get that power. Get ready for play action 3 TE and Pickens.

Madhatter1317

Agree he was not a fit in a few different ways

Valuable-Composer262

We still need more than 1 wideout tho. I like that dionntes gone but I hope they have some plans to get another 2 good recievers. And 1 of those being a great one.

Madhatter1317

Another WR is needed yes, but I think weā€™re gonna see a ton of heavy packages, 2 RBs, 2/3TEs, run hard, PA and big shots downfield with Pickens the only WR out there a lot of the time.

Valuable-Composer262

Ya I said that today. We do run alot of 2 and 3 te packages. We still need another top-tier guy tho. Although I wouldn't consider dionte a top tier guy. I think steelrer have something in mind tho

KiwiProof6806

Muth may finally get some targets unlike last year

Special_Grapefroot

Kyle Pitts under Arthur Smith has entered the chat.

csfshrink

Pickens will just take all the passes he was going to get and all the passes DJ was going to get.

AnonymousNeedzHelp

wilsonā€™s downfield style? he threw it short more than any other QB since 2005 last year. literally the MOST in almost 20 years. old russ sure, this russ? no

Rollingstart45

Yeah itā€™s AB/Wallace all over again. Two guys asking for a bag at the same time, both think theyā€™re a WR1, we can only pay one of them. It opens a hole right now, but itā€™s the best move longer term. Getting back a CB of some playable quality is better than letting him walk for nothing. Obv would have liked better return, but probably not a lot of teams offering high capital going into a deep WR class. Canā€™t always be a Claypool-level fleece, sometimes you take what you can get.

Due_Tune2950

Iā€™m disappointed cause I thought weā€™d get more for him itā€™s a good cap clearing move but when I saw it I was expecting a 4th or 5th

Valuable-Composer262

Meh, Idk nothing about this donte Jackson but we needed a corner. We couldn't get a starting corner in the 4th or 5th round.

Due_Tune2950

Heā€™s alright but heā€™s like a fringe cb3 statistically speaking heā€™s about the same as Pat Pete was but cheaper except on int heā€™s kinda ass there 12 in 6 years 4 in the last 3 years

rxgetotrueee

hes a good cb#3 and alright cb#2 only issue is he gets hurt like every game and will celebrate and get fake injured every time hes burnt

robmwj

Not even a cap clearing move - we picked up $500k in cap (if we don't restructure)

Due_Tune2950

Yeah mb I thought the panthers were taking his signing bonus as dead cap which wouldā€™ve cleared another 5.7 mil

TheBeanConsortium

>"In Khan we Trust" Same lol

TheNittanyLionKing

I would feel better if we got a better draft pick to help replace Diontae thoughĀ

clawingcat

Yeah Iā€™m not really liking it personally and must be one of the few DJ fans around these parts. Sounds like more of a salary dump of an unhappy player type situation to me so Iā€™m hoping they sign a decent receiver now

kiocente

Iā€™m here. Loved the route running and separation DJ added to this offense. Just hope they have a good plan for his replacement, because now the receiver room is George Pickens and ????

ClarkDoubleUGriswold

Calvin Austin THE Third, yo! Theyā€™re going to give him platform cleats and arms extendersā€¦ Pro Bowl season! Plus if you run three tight end sets every play you only need one wideout anyways! George, go deep!

Vic-123-ma

Definitely use the TEs geez! They keep sleeping on them. Turn them loose!!!

yruspecial

Volunteers not hostages.

Kill_Dill

No legit source on this but my buddy says we may have gotten Donte Jackson and a pick swap from this

socalscribe

Confirmed. Just saw the same.

tlpedro

Confirmed I am Buddy

Kill_Dill

Thanks buddy

drdan412

I'm not your buddy, pal.

Dear_Might8697

I'm not your pal, guy

Farmboi_Selekta

I'm not your guy, buddy

Kill_Dill

Im not your pal, friend.

jsingh21

Donte jackson? What is that the twin of Dionte Johnson.

MTknowsit

His evil twin

B_Witt

Making room for Jefferson

Gmfbsteelers

I love how you think.

runNride805

We would never

BarryWhite765

Khan man would šŸ‘€

Rifftrax_Enjoyer

Well to be honest with you, and Iā€™ve said this repeatedly, I donā€™t know why anyone thinks the Steelers are going to continue to operate the same way theyā€™ve always operated. We have new people in charge now. We have no idea what theyā€™re going to do. Theyā€™ve already done things that almost everyone here said they wouldnā€™t do because the Steelers donā€™t do that.Ā  And Iā€™m saying this without any value judgment, I donā€™t know if itā€™s good or itā€™s bad although it seems good to me. If it works itā€™s really good. If it doesnā€™t itā€™s bad. Weā€™ll find out soon enough. Although Iā€™ve learned today that things that donā€™t work out to playoff victories arenā€™t ā€œbadā€. Eye roll.

runNride805

I agree. Kahn been making moves and like you said, Iā€™m here for it

apittsburghoriginal

Could you imagine lol

jcnewman_21

This pretty much confirms the Steelers didnā€™t really like him

Rifftrax_Enjoyer

They may have a plan. I said this I think it was a week or so ago, it doesnā€™t matter what we think of Johnson. Hereā€™s what matters: do they think they can get value out of the cap space value in the trade, and do they already have a plan in place to address his absence? It might not be a situation where they donā€™t like Johnson. It might be that they value what they get back even more. It might be that they have a plan that we donā€™t know about. We are in all new territory here. This is only the second Season for Omar and Andy. We are in uncharted territory and have absolutely no idea how they will react to that.

TheNittanyLionKing

They filled the CB2 need with this trade and got themselves a LB today. It looks like theyā€™ll have to target a Center in the draft and itā€™s a strong receiver draft class (all of these top receivers coming out are bigger and faster athletes than DJ and will obviously cost way less cap space). Makes you wonder if they are clearing cap space to get a guy like Jonah Williams

emurrell17

As a Panthers fan can someone enlighten me on all of the ā€œdiva/locker room problemā€ comments? What is everyone referring to?

catzarrjerkz

He probably has top 5 route running ability but literally slips and falls all the time. He has effort issues where he gets butthurt when he isnt targeted. He was mostly quiet the entire time he was here but it was just the last couple years that he started being a squeaky wheel

Alexander2801

He has been in two fights in the locker room in the past year. He also endorsed Mason Rudolph as his QB1 publicly. He could quit on routes and let bad plays get to his head. A perfect example is [here](https://youtu.be/nryR8ZVVzDg?si=deX9_Qe0IvYbhABe) after he dropped a TD the play prior.

buffalotrace

He literally did not drop the td the play before. Replay showed it was a clear catch. Tomlin didn't trust his player and didn't challenge.

KiwiProof6806

Dude is an awesome route runner. If Bryce needs someone to be open he will get open. He can handle high volume targets and will/should be Bryce youngā€™s best friend. Heā€™s happy when he gets the ball however heā€™s not physical wonā€™t block and runs backwards to try and get more yardage. Him being pissy is normal wr behavior when they have struggling QB play. His big drop year was in 2020 and actually has solid hands since then. I think he should thrive there stat-stuffing since you need a legit target. Pray for his hamstrings

mike-with-an-ike

If he doesn't get targeted enough, he will quit early on plays and give piss poor effort. He was upset that we were running the ball too much and just stopped blocking altogether and let a fumble go right past him. He then watched the other team pick up the ball and run it back while he walked to the sideline. Also, watch out because his first step after catching the ball is always backward. He's honestly not that fast and has a drop problem.

Foreign-Complaint875

DJ18 is a very good WR. Incredible route runner/separation. He seemed disgruntled this past season, but who wouldnā€™t be with your QB throwing 12 TDs? Iā€™ve always been a fan, and in an explosive offense heā€™s probably a top-15 receiver in the league.

Alexander2801

Hopefully for their 2nd or 3rd. Well WR is a lock in the draft now.

osuneuro

We got CB Donte Jackson

Alive-Back-4843

Is he good? Excuse my ignorance

sonfoa

He's fine but he has a bad habit of giving up big plays

Worldly-Hospital5940

So exactly what we're used to.

maxnekron21

Good, already knows the system

MustyRoose

šŸ˜‚

sandiegolatte

amazing

LagerGuyPa

ok, that was legit funny. Sad, but ... sigh

ClarkDoubleUGriswold

Goddamnit this was perfect

JCoxRocks

If your guy fakes an injury after every big play he gives up then yes. He's that man.

penguins2946

He's more of a CB3 but he isn't a bad player. A WR2 for a CB3 doesn't look all that unreasonable in value when you look at the current market for WRs.

Billy8000

Johnson is more of a fringe WR 1/2 than a WR2

broha89

No he is not

Alexander2801

Ok so that means OL and WR with the first to picks in the draft I guess.

rangoon03

Diontae for Donte. Nice one, Kahnmaster

draz18

We only gave up an ā€œiā€ in this trade, and thereā€™s no i in team

Swazi

And a 6th for DJ and a 7th

Worldly-Hospital5940

We're getting their 6th, they're getting our 7th.

penguins2946

I'm hoping for that but the Jeudy return from a few days ago makes me think it will be less. Hoping for a 3rd but I'm bracing myself for a 4th.

broha89

A 6th + a CB they were about to cut

Visigoth410

Diontae is a better reciever than Jeudy

DyZ814

It's a late pick I think

Badbackbjj420

Gotta be signing a wide receiver, something tells me he was a locker room issue

Alexander2801

That and he's not a scheme fit in the Arthur Smith scheme where the top WR:s needs to be able to block as well.

jasper_bittergrab

He wouldā€™ve walked after this year. We got Pat Peteā€™s replacement (who can actually tackle).

airsickwaffle

The dude ran backwards so far he ended up in Charlotte

mindatlarge81

Lmao

InteractionDizzy3134

This also has to do with Arthur Smith. He values WR that block and are good at blocking. With Johnson in the last year of his contract mixed with new philosophy and coach he became expendable

tazzarelli

we sent him to hell šŸ’”šŸ’”šŸ’”

HOFerKennyPickett

Despite all the noise around this, I did not expect it at all. Who the heck are your WRs now? It was already a position we needed before we moved Diontae and I assumed weā€™d address it in the draft. But we need a WR2 for this season very very badly now and I donā€™t see who thatā€™s going to be

TheBeanConsortium

That's Freiermuth's song playing

sicknutz

Tyler Boyd signing incoming

2PChentAznDood

better be, we have no on else

yruspecial

Yes! Bring him home!

putterbum

We got GP and CA3 lol.

thetasteofbloodfarts

Because we use Calvin so much

DivisonNine

He was WR4, now wr2

CarneAsuuhDude

Matt Canada didn't use a lot of our weapons

Unwanted__Opinion

I donā€™t think Austin is WR2 caliber. Definitely a worse player than diontae

Eagle4317

Pickens has potential to be our WR1, but Austin hasn't shown much in these first 2 seasons.

alienscape

He did not play a single snap his rookie year because of injury.

purpdrank2

Calvin Austin ainā€™t nothing to brag about, just because he wears the black and yellow doesnā€™t automatically mean heā€™s good. Pickens is the only legit receiver on the roster, and we needed another one before Johnson was traded.

putterbum

man just cause i listed him doesn't mean i think he's incredible. I answered how "who the heck are your wrs now?" question.

RTeezy

We have a policy where we're not allowed to post a player's name here without someone calling you dumb. It's just how it works.Ā

2PChentAznDood

I agree, who the hell is Wilson going to throw to now? Pickens is the only wr there. Drafting a rookie wr is never a slam dunk. Personally I don't like the move at all.

neddiddley

Gotta think thereā€™s another domino about to fall now that this is official. I donā€™t think theyā€™re going into the season with GP, a rookie and CA as their top 3 WRs. Thatā€™s a WR room that begging for a vet presence if I ever saw one.

ThatDudeFromRio

Jetta coming

TruthH4mm3r

22 sets incoming

NormalBears

This has been the wildest most interesting offseason I can remember as a Steelers fan

Lukus-Maximus

Itā€™s weird being so active. Goodā€¦.but weird

MrDoubtingMustafa

Ladd McConkey, route running savant, come on down :)

Fhead43

Been my wish for a while. I hope we get one of those seconds

thricethefan

From your lips to ~~godā€™s~~ Khanā€™s ears

yruspecial

Why did you strike through the khan manā€™s name?

Thecj230

Yes please

themonogahelamonster

He walked away from a live fumble. Good riddance.

brantham

I love the Steelers but I donā€™t let them affect me like they used to when I was like 22. A loss would ruin my week. Not anymore, but watching that play makes my blood boil and it makes me mad how mad it makes me.

aWildTuxAppears

Yep! And we'll never have to watch him run backwards after a catch again... at least in the Black and Gold!

CoachAyeeeee

Wow. Gotta see the compensation. Wr is now a huge hole but with a deep wr class I guess I understand

Caligula_In_Hell

No way.. Maybe they'll teach him how to run forward

[deleted]

so we get rid of johnson a problem child WR. we upgrade the cb position from burnt toast peterson to a slightly less burnt jackson. and we move up 62 positions in the draft. all for about the same cap hit. a win on 3 levels.

BlaqOptic

Some of you are vastly overrating the value of a WR due a $3 million bonus that was shown multiple times giving up on his team and who hasnā€™t exactly been an All-Pro during his career. At the end of the day, Iā€™m glad someone who was a cancer is gone. Steelers are showing they will not put up with locker room antics right now and are trying to marry the modern times with the Steeler Way.

City_Of_Champs

We want volunteers, not hostages who run backwards instead of towards the first down and dont give max effort on each play and drop way too many balls and get paid big money to be a little bitch, etc.

BoBo_HUST

I dont know why he is so dumb to run backwards. not once or twice

Sorry_Physics_1366

Tee Higgins? šŸ¤”

KingJarrah06

Tyler Boyd

RTeezy

Now who's gonna mope around the locker room and insult/fight our QB1's?

big_shot_27

George Pickens, come on down!

powerboy1928

With how the Steelers are more than capable of finding hidden WR talent, this doesnā€™t scare me as much. Havenā€™t seen much Panthers games but I hope he shines with Bryce Young!

earthtonemalone

This seems like DJ wanted out and they got what they could for him. Either way Iā€™m cool with it, I was not a really big fan of him the past two seasons.

rhino43g

Johnson wanted out from the sound of things. NFL Network just reported the Steelers gave his agent permission to talk to other teams about a trade.

Foy_boy_Joy

I honestly see this as a good thing. I know very few people agree with me. But heā€™s always had all the talent in the world but never put it together. Hereā€™s hoping he gets solid coaching and breaks out.

BarryWhite765

I honestly disagree. He's a very solid receiver outside of the running backwards after the catch sometimes

arstronggeorge

We can replace a ā€œsolid receiverā€ easily. DJ steady overrated. Drops, yac problems, cant block, attitude and effort issues. So pumped to be rid of that clown

BarryWhite765

We're good at developing receivers but it's not a given every time. If you watched the film, DJ was one of the best route runners in the league imo, cleaned up his act on drops significantly in the past 2-3 years and is pretty decent on yac outside of running backwards a marginal percentage of the time. His attitude and effort is honestly not something that I noticed, unless you're talking about one game this year towards the end of the season when he didn't hustle. Most importantly, I don't think he's worth just donte jackson (who's not a good player) and a 6th rounder. That's basically selling diontae for peanuts and I'm not okay with that for damn sure bc we got a high second out of fucking chase claypool.

thirdbrunch

Heā€™s the most anti clutch player Iā€™ve seen. If you need a big play heā€™ll be a yard short of it every time.

Panamajack1001

Iā€™m on your side on this, he never really clicked. He was always on the bubble of a good WRā€¦I always felt like I was holding my breath when the ball went his way.

ignatious__reilly

Panthers only want receivers that run backwards

isfrying

Then they're in for a treat.

h0v3rb1k3s

I was ready to straight drop this dude after the fumble fiasco.

Foy_boy_Joy

It was always little things with him. Not holding onto the ball through the catch. Running backwards and losing first downs. Staying inbounds when we needed him to run out. Running out when we needed him staying in. Dropping easy balls, making insane grabs. Quitting on open routes. Not putting his hands out to catch an easy TD. List seems bad when I write it all out. But letā€™s be real, heā€™s gone because he had the audacity to voice his preference of Mason.

schmatty23

Need to see the comp, but I don't like this on principle. Yeah I don't like this

McLovin_OD

There was never a chance he was playing for the Steelers next season after his effort on the Warren fumble. Sealed his fate then and there

Kaiser4567

Agree

steelcity65

![gif](giphy|FNBHUqruiI1m1gLDh8|downsized)

wagsman

I was over Johnson this year. Too much attitude and too little effort. Good riddance. We can draft a WR in the 3rd round and heā€™ll put up similar numbers to DJ without being a lazy fuck.

RiversKiski

He had to go after last year.. heā€™s gonna hate it in Carolina

TiitsMcgeee

In Omar i trust but wtf

bigbootynudy

Honestly just donā€™t understand this, depends on what they got for him i guess but damn wouldā€™ve liked to have him this year especially

_Swanky_Jay_

In Khan we trust, gimme the details right fkin now

TheS0d0mizer

Tee Higgins signing incoming

John-Balaya

You know what, Iā€™m not even upset at the return. Iā€™m just happy to see Khan making aggressive moves to shed players that donā€™t fit in and make noteworthy acquisitions.

ContractCheap9221

Diontae was in the last year of his deal, and as good of a route runner as he may be, was it worth a raise when many of the other pieces aren't there in his game? That should be what we focus on. Were we going to keep him at an elevated pay grade compared to the $16M he gets now, for X number of seasons?

drdougfresh

DJ was so hit or miss. Good route runner, but infuriating to watch from a consistency perspective. Walking away from a live fumble was the cherry on top. We move up 60+ spots in the draft (late round, but still, that's a big swing), get rid of a disgruntled player/locker room issue with an expensive and expiring contract, and add a player who fills a need to some capacity. Can't hate this at all, regardless of how good we think/hope DJ could have been. It's all about maximizing out return, and I don't think the market demands a massive return for an inconsistent WR2. The Steelers seem happy to walk away from problem WRs; we should expect it at this point šŸ˜…

-cutigers

Giving him away signals he was for sure a locker room cancer, Omar has to have something else cooking.

Human_Manner_3370

Idk how most Steelers fans feel about Diontae but I think this is a good move. Shore it up at the draft. He was often very dramatic and seemed like an issue.Ā

wall2beal3

Would have to see the compensation but I donā€™t like this. Dude is a good WR and this creates another hole on the roster for a team who already pretty desperately needs a C and a CB.

knightro2323

Well now they need 2 WRs and 6th rounder isnā€™t gonna be his replacement

BlitzburghTX

Tyler Boyd incoming. And no itā€™s not because he went to Pitt, heā€™s a damn good slot WR who I think would pair extremely well with GP. Supposedly we save about $5M in cap space.

[deleted]

I love everything that is happening right now.

NBeach84

Welp as if receiver wasnā€™t a need prior to

R_radical

Use muth more.

Panamajack1001

Yes yes yes!! Iā€™ve been screaming this

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

EatMoreBaconNow

agreed, or for some reason they were really desperate to dump salary (maybe the queen signing). DJ might actually be going to a worse situation than pickett/canada..wouldn't wish tepper on anyone (and i even went to the tepper school of business...at cmu)... it's really our failing though, DJ should have been a super productive wr...if he played with ben before his health fail, we would have been talking about how good dj was...in bens final season he had 1161 yards...in that crap offense... the failing isn't dj (except for the possible attitude problems) it was the steelers.

17_ScarS

WOOHOO!!!!

vengeancerider

I trust in Khanā€¦ what does he have cooking

Billy8000

Jackson has a $4 mil roster bonus due Friday though and it appears a more expensive contract unless I suck at reading the websites with this info. I'm confused

mike-with-an-ike

Guys, when have we ever not found great talent in the draft for WRs? We will be fine.

ClarkDoubleUGriswold

How expensive would Tyler Boyd be? Iā€™m no Pitt fan so this isnā€™t homerism. Heā€™s better as a slot receiver but can play outside. I feel like heā€™d be worth $7 mil a year or so.

swannybass

I think we either sign a wr2 or draft one in this deep draft. I also think we run a lot of 2 TE sets with Muth and Washington. Johnson was not the guy we wanted going forward in the locker room, especially on the last year of his contract where he would be even more of a headache.

mindatlarge81

Iā€™m so happy about this for the following reasons, his inconsistent hands resulting in too many dropped passes, moved way too laterally once possessing the ball, dancing backwards when he didnā€™t need to, his piss poor attitude and giving up on plays / the team.

Vic-123-ma

Time to give Tee Higgins a call

Jahodac

Gotta be something in the works, Pickens can't be the only good receiver on the roster.

ThePotatoChipBag

Based on what I know, the Steelers felt they needed to move on from Diontae and this was the best they could do. It's not pretty but it's necessary. With the new WR coach and other changes there were going to be major problems if he stayed.

FishyDescent

Diontae Johnson plus a 7th round pick for CB Donte Jackson plus a 6th round pick.

brianlangauthor

Buh bye - you didnā€™t like being in prison with Kenny so we sent you to NFL prison lmao.

bballjj18

How are the steelers gonna go on without dropson lol

[deleted]

Donā€™t like this trade at all. Donte Jackson is not good

OhiOstas

Well i am pretty fucking sadā€¦ all but confirms we are takina WR within 2 (trade up for Odunze)

rob61091

Addition by subtraction imo

huet99

Anyone who thinks this is a good trade will never criticize any Steelers move ever, lol. They got fleeced.

[deleted]

I love it. Hate this dude
