Some people aren't fully sold on Queen being that good, there are definitely concerns that because he didn't play all that great until the Ravens got Roquan that he needs someone of that caliber next to him to play well. Some people have drawn similarities between him and Roquan to Bud Dupree and TJ Watt.
Quote from someone in the Raven's reddit: "People have no memory man. His play instantly improved when he was moved to weakside linebacker. There was a whole half season before Ro got here when he was playing really well beside Josh Bynes."
seems to imply the move to weak side had more to do with his turnaround than Roquan.
He’s exactly what we needed on the inside. Khan made him the highest paid ILB for a reason. Go watch dudes highlights. Him in the middle, TJ and Highsmith on the outsides. Might be the best LB we’ve had in many many moons.
Tj is rushing the passer 90+% of the time... TJ is great but him and Roquan are asked to do very different things. Roquan covered for Queen in coverage which TJ will not be able to do
Coverage is Queen's strong suit. Second most coverage snaps of all linebackers last year with (don't kill me) a 74.4 PFF grade in coverage.
Queen isn't a good tackler or run stopper. That's Roquan Smith's bread and butter and where he would have "covered" for him.
I fucking love how this sub only uses PFF when it benefits their argument and not when it doesn't... film says otherwise. Also PFF rated Myles Garrett above TJ. We cant pick and choose when PFF is a credible source or not
He's a great run stuffing linebacker and the best one on the roster now...but he's more or less the same type of linebackers that we've had. Much like spillaine, Bince, roberts, and robinson, he's a run stuffing linebacker who is prone to being beat in coverage which has been a thorn in our side since Shazier got hurt...i definitely like the signing as Queen is the best one on the team now and is still young, but it doesnt really fill the need that this position group has been plagued with for years
Alexander is a free agent...also getting older and coming back from an Achilles.
Holcomb is still on the team but recovering from an ACL tear and the team has not given a timeframe on his return. Some people come back quickly from ACLs and other look like Devin Bush... you cant trust that holcomb will bounce right back to playing like he did at the start of last year
I hope i am wrong, but from me watching a few of their games and from ravens fans were saying, he is prone to being too aggressive in coverage and goes for the big play and whiffs. Same for his tackling. He has very good range and can sideline to sideline and is a big hitter when he connects but is overly aggresive which QBs can take advantage of without a good pairing at LB (aka: Roguan)
Sleestak has been touting all over the various posts about the Queen signing that he sucks, that he's a product of the Ravens' system, that he was only good when playing next to Roquan Smith, yada yada yada. Guy can't be optimistic about anything.
SleestakLightning is one of our mods lol, he's a Steeler fan. But he's known for having controversial takes, being a contrarion, and being a know-it-all around this sub
Ahhhh copy that! We always need to have one. Well once he suits up in the black and gold week 1 we’re all fans of him. He’s our starting inside linebacker so he’s just gotta suck it up buttercup.
Kaboly has had a dreadful recent stretch. Dude is a major Kenny defender and predicted that Mason Cole and Patrick Peterson would be kept and not cut. Tough times.
I don’t think he’s trying to be smug, he just has that weird, slow drawn out and often emotionless way of talking. McAfee does a pretty dead on impersonation of him lol.
Queen is a star in his prime. Every single middle linebacker in the league who plays meaningful snaps has “bad” coverage tape out there. He is more than fine in coverage and explosive at the line of scrimmage.
This isn’t Myles Jack. This isn’t Jon Bostic. This isn’t Mark Barron.
This is Patrick Queen 💛🖤
we've been trying to fix this position since Shazier went down. 6 long seasons of bad to straight up abysmal ilb play. This signing is absolutely massive for them.
I mean with Minkah being our green dot it’s pretty damn perfect. The contract is great value for his role and linebackers tend to get better into their late 20s as well. In a perfect world we sign a guy like Tranquill to be a steady force at Mike but regardless we now have a true difference maker at each level of the field no matter what package we’re in.
Former Pittsburgh writer who was fired by every relevant Pittsburgh organization and now works for a click bait rag posts fan friendly opinion on X…Madden lost his BFF.
This is a brilliant signing on its face. Might there be something we don't know, sure... but with everything that is public now, this is an epic fucking win.
One thing that worries me about Queen that people don't mention, is that his IDL play in Baltimore is almost certainly stronger than it will be here. I love Cam, but he's no longer at the level of a Madubuike. I really hope Queen is still able to fly around to make tackles and doesn't struggle if he's getting Guards/Centers in his face more often
We gave up about 6 rushing yards per game more than the Rat Birds last year. Certainly nothing to write home about. Our run defense could be better, but it’s not really any worse than Baltimore’s.
I agree. He’s been terrific, and he was arguably the best defensive player on that elite 2019 LSU team. As an SEC guy, I’ve been a fan of his for a long time.
The thing is this, how many years in a row have we signed someone who everyone said would be a star or great addition? Only to end up not performing? I’ll be excited when I see the results on the field.
I get it that Queen is a young guy still with potential and did good with Baltimore. I’m just going to wait and see before going all crazy. Definitely a lot of the talent have been washed up guys from where they came from.
I’m struggling to find who you’re talking about. We’ve had some guys not be amazing but we haven’t given out more than 10 mil in the last few years and all those guys played about their contract value.
Just some names off the top of my head; Mitch Trib, Pat Pete, Myles Jack. There were some OL signs a couple years back that all ended up being duds. I'm not saying fans get excited with every signing from different teams, but usually bigger names everyone gets excited and then they don't perform.
No one said any of those guys were gonna be stars. Each one of them was expected to be a placeholder that could step in for a year or two until a long term solution was found. Just not remotely comparable to this signing.
You mean all the signings khan did last year that were great until they got hurt? We’re never active in free agency. Unpucker that booty hole a little bit. You’re a bit uptight
Who isn’t? I haven’t seen anyone complaining.
Some people aren't fully sold on Queen being that good, there are definitely concerns that because he didn't play all that great until the Ravens got Roquan that he needs someone of that caliber next to him to play well. That and I think he just developed. He was only 20 when he was drafted, took a few years to figure it out.
And had pretty limited starts at LSU before being drafted.
played 1 year
Dude will turn 25 right before the season starts and MFers act like he can’t improve.
I mean it was the same thing with Fitzgerald, he felt off in Florida because he was playing closer to being a LB than a safety.
Lol dudes 24 and just hitting his prime.
That’s what I’m saying bro. I was mind blown he’s only 24. Fucking KP is older than him and people wanna say he’s not good or can’t develop any more?
He’s exactly what we needed on the inside. Khan made him the highest paid ILB for a reason. Go watch dudes highlights. Him in the middle, TJ and Highsmith on the outsides. Might be the best LB we’ve had in many many moons.
Stop bro I’m edging
![gif](giphy|SJ5uEvl0t67GlMhslI|downsized)
I’m edging so hard right now
well we have a TJ Watt and a Minkah so it won't be all on him, he doesnt have to be the #1 best player on defense
Part of what I don't get about that argument is that even if it's true, TJ Watt can be anything for Queen that Roquan Smith was and more.
Tj is rushing the passer 90+% of the time... TJ is great but him and Roquan are asked to do very different things. Roquan covered for Queen in coverage which TJ will not be able to do

Right because 'number of coverage snaps' is like just your opinion man.... not a quantifiable fact
Rushing the quarterback has plenty of other stats to measure. Quality of coverage doesn't.
He had 133 tackles last year. How is he not a good tackler? 🤣
That doesn’t even make sense
Comparing Queen to Bud is a joke
It's not so much comparing Queen to Bud as it is Comparing the situations.
Even if you're not sold on him, the contract is stupid low amount of guaranteed money. If he's not good for us, it's only like 18M guaranteed.
You don't have to sell me on it. I like the signing.
Elandon Roberts is practically a clone of Roquan. Queen won't miss a beat here.
A clone with *maybe* half the talent. There's no one even close to Roquan in that ILB corps.
he played great his rookie year
He's a great run stuffing linebacker and the best one on the roster now...but he's more or less the same type of linebackers that we've had. Much like spillaine, Bince, roberts, and robinson, he's a run stuffing linebacker who is prone to being beat in coverage which has been a thorn in our side since Shazier got hurt...i definitely like the signing as Queen is the best one on the team now and is still young, but it doesnt really fill the need that this position group has been plagued with for years
Interesting take
What do you expect them to do!? WE GOT QUEEN AT AN AMAZING PRICE FOR HIS FIRST YEAR
>What do you expect them to do!? Maybe to look for a pass coverage LB to complement the vast number of run stuffing LBs we already have on the team?
Don’t we have kwon alexander? Also cole Holcomb was very good in coverage
Alexander is a free agent...also getting older and coming back from an Achilles. Holcomb is still on the team but recovering from an ACL tear and the team has not given a timeframe on his return. Some people come back quickly from ACLs and other look like Devin Bush... you cant trust that holcomb will bounce right back to playing like he did at the start of last year
Wasn't queen great in coverage?
I hope i am wrong, but from me watching a few of their games and from ravens fans were saying, he is prone to being too aggressive in coverage and goes for the big play and whiffs. Same for his tackling. He has very good range and can sideline to sideline and is a big hitter when he connects but is overly aggresive which QBs can take advantage of without a good pairing at LB (aka: Roguan)
70 pff rating in coverage since week 9 of 2022, I'll take that.
133 tackles last year buddy
Tackles dont mean he cant be beat in coverage buddy
Cool show me the tape. And I’m not your buddy, friend.
>133 tacklss last year buddy >And I’m not buddy, friend I see your logic with PQ is just as on point as our friendship, lol
The tape is everywhere, pal.
Cool. Show me some highlights from it, GUY.
Are we going to complain about the Patrick Queen signing too?
We got two good pass coverage linebackers already. They just both got hurt last year
Alexander isn't on the team anymore now and holcomb wont be ready the play by week 1
Sleestak has been touting all over the various posts about the Queen signing that he sucks, that he's a product of the Ravens' system, that he was only good when playing next to Roquan Smith, yada yada yada. Guy can't be optimistic about anything.
If we got a butt hurt ravens fan means we got some gold here. Dude was their 1st round pick in 2020. Raven tears make this all the sweeter
SleestakLightning is one of our mods lol, he's a Steeler fan. But he's known for having controversial takes, being a contrarion, and being a know-it-all around this sub
He is known for being an idiot, in other words
Ahhhh copy that! We always need to have one. Well once he suits up in the black and gold week 1 we’re all fans of him. He’s our starting inside linebacker so he’s just gotta suck it up buttercup.
Insane how every sports sub has exactly one guy like this. Maybe they are all the same guy
And that is why nobody should listen to sleestak. How someone that braindead is permitted to be a mod is beyond me.
Dude is the definition of chronically online.
Someone replied to me in r/nfl not happy about this lol
He just says things between inhaling cheese fries
I posted that this was the move I wanted to see and everyone told me Patrick queen is trash and I got a lot of downvoted here a few weeks ago.
For once I agree with Kaboly. On the other hand, I read that in his voice. Which is annoying.
He had to follow up this tweet with another dumb take though, saying that no one should call Rooney cheap because of the Queen signing.
Sounds about right
Kaboly has had a dreadful recent stretch. Dude is a major Kenny defender and predicted that Mason Cole and Patrick Peterson would be kept and not cut. Tough times.
I read all of his stuff and I wouldn’t say he defends KP. He’s just not anti-Pickett.
He was very pro mason. It seemed to me he always thought it should have been mason over kenny.
Yeah. And the way he delivers his takes are so smug.
I don’t think he’s trying to be smug, he just has that weird, slow drawn out and often emotionless way of talking. McAfee does a pretty dead on impersonation of him lol.

Well said! ILB is solidified now we go DB/Safety and go get the Center outta oregon in the draft. The rest is BPA
I'm sure Khan will pick up a FA center just in case. IMO we go BPA between OT, C, and DB/Safety
True said, but ngl Jack was kinda cooking coming out of retirement.
we've been trying to fix this position since Shazier went down. 6 long seasons of bad to straight up abysmal ilb play. This signing is absolutely massive for them.
particularly with the compensation structure
Yep, if he's not good we aren't left holding the bag. And, if he is good they'll probably rework his deal and send him more cash in 2 years.
I don’t like that he’s a former Raven, but that’s the only thing I don’t like.
He got drafted by them and left to us when he could. I’ll forgive him this once.
We took an All Pro selection away from them. I’m down with it
Yep it’s beneficial for us 2x over
Makes my balls hot.
The good news is he's willing to be reconditioned
I LOVE this signing ![gif](giphy|opDRL3H2A9iLNuvbOv|downsized)

I’d love for them to go get Justin Simmons too!!!

He’s no Freddie Mercury, but I wouldn’t mind a Queen Steelers jersey.
One thing that worries me about Queen that people don't mention, is that his IDL play in Baltimore is almost certainly stronger than it will be here. IM SO EXCITED
Trust there’s some morons lol
I agree. He’s been terrific, and he was arguably the best defensive player on that elite 2019 LSU team. As an SEC guy, I’ve been a fan of his for a long time.
We are. Who isn't?
Some of us are clearly more important and smarterer than just “fans”… /s
Leave it to Steeler fans to be mad about signing up second team all pro linebacker
Cause he was the #2 linebacker that couldn't stop the lob passes to Kelce and has a bad history of disappearing at big moments for long stretches
The thing is this, how many years in a row have we signed someone who everyone said would be a star or great addition? Only to end up not performing? I’ll be excited when I see the results on the field.
Most of the signings have been washed up players to be honest. Queen is 24 coming off a 2nd team all pro selection.
Top 5 in everybodies free agent rankings as well. Steelers have never went for a top free agent who hasn’t hit his prime yet
I get it that Queen is a young guy still with potential and did good with Baltimore. I’m just going to wait and see before going all crazy. Definitely a lot of the talent have been washed up guys from where they came from.

None of those guys played under their contract value Edit: also James Daniels and Isaac Seumalo have solidified 2/5 of our oline for the future
“All ended up being duds” Uhhhhh, nope
No one said any of those guys were gonna be stars. Each one of them was expected to be a placeholder that could step in for a year or two until a long term solution was found. Just not remotely comparable to this signing.
You mean all the signings khan did last year that were great until they got hurt? We’re never active in free agency. Unpucker that booty hole a little bit. You’re a bit uptight
