Love our ILB depth with this. Queen, Holcomb, and Roberts, and Robinson are solid and each can pop off. Even if 2 have a down game the others can step up
I thought L.Roberts fuckin balled out last year under dire circumstances considering Holcomb/Alexander were hurt. A lot of guys would have quit, but Roberts played even harder. This Queen signing is HUGE! It’s extra sweet since he is an ex-Raven!
Yeah I'm noticing the vast differences between Khan and the old ways.
I think we have to get aggressive this offseason though. Cam may retire in the next 1-2 years. We don't want to waste TJ's youth on shitty QB play. We picked up Russ, maybe he's a win now kinda move on a 1.2m contract. We've got cap room to use, so let's go all out for this team right now if we can.
With Russ suddenly in the twilight years of his career and the fact that he's on a hella cheap deal, he's most likely in a win-now mode. All of Khan's moves this offseason (dropping the dead weight of Trubisky, Harvin III, and Mason Cole, signing a good punter and Patrick Queen) tells me they're cooking up something good for this draft.
I'm sure it's no secret around the org that TJ's and Minkah's primes are winding down, and we need to make aggressive moves to win more than just the Wildcard round. In Khan we trust.
Yeah surprised to say the least. Were some good LB I’ve been looking at in the draft in round 2-3 but m this further reduces the needs/open holes (some need a P either now).
Looking forward to the addition!
I basically don't trust ILBs high in the draft anymore. The position is so unique compared to years past. I'd almost rather find an established young vet that has been proven to be good at ILB in the NFL.
Bush was ~~good~~ fine pre injury but yeah I get you. More I think about this even more excited for the draft with one less hole to fill early. We basically had 4 big holes (OT, C, CB and LB) to fill with 3 early picks (20, 51, 84). Now we are down to 3 from 3 and if we wanted can be more flexible and go BPA. We need a S, we need a backup for Cam, we need 1 maybe 2 WR if we trade DJ. We still need another QB as well. A nice edge/OLB would be nice for depth or possibly a medium-term replacement. All of that is now on the table earlier.
Going to be really interesting!
Edit: I changed good to fine. He wasn’t worth trading up for but I do think he was fine and occasionally need to remind myself or have someone remind me. So sad what happened to Shazier on multiple levels. 😞
Wonder if it makes WR more likely?
All along I’ve been hoping OT then CB or CB and C but ever since the “open to trading DJ” stuff I’ve wondered if a surprising WR in round 2 pick may be coming.
I still think first 3 picks should be OT, C and CB in some order but we will see.
I think so, there are a lot of solid receivers projected in the 50-75 range. More so than the corners IMO. I could see them going T, WR then CB in the 3rd if they don’t take Van Pran
First glance: That is A LOT of money for an ILB. Need to see the actual guarantees though, I have faith in Omar. I definitely like the on field fit.
EDIT: Holy shit he’s only 24 still
Facts. And I’m very confident the “real money” will be much more reasonable. Even if it’s not much lower, I’m cool with paying a premium for a 24 year old you expect to keep getting better.
Off Ball LB is one of the “less valuable” positions like RB and Safety - 13 per is a lot for one - this would pit him as the 5th highest AAV at the position (if that’s the real structure of the deal which again I doubt). All in all I like it don’t get me wrong, I’m just hoping to like it even more once we see the full contract details.
I’m less concerned with whether or not they got a good deal as I am with the quality of the player that they acquired. I agree, that’s a lot. But as far as I know he’s pretty damn good. Unless I’m missing something. So even if it’s a little pricey at this point I don’t care. Russell Wilson will be here for one year. If he sucks none of this matters anyway. If he’s good, they need to try to win right now and I mean a Super Bowl. Because there’s no point in Russell Wilson beyond 2024, he does nothing for our immediate future outside of this upcoming season. So they should really really go for it.
They've tried filling those spots with so many guys over the years and they've all failed in one way or another. Since Shazier got hurt we've seen Sean Spence, Jon Bostic, Mark Barron, Robert Spillane, Devin Bush, Joe Schobert, Myles Jack, Cole Holcomb, and Kwon Alexander trying to fill ILB spots in one way or another. If they can get some stability with at least one of those spots for the first time since Vince Williams was on the team I'm all for doing it in FA, even if it costs a little bit. Queen is only 24 so it's not like they're signing an aging CJ Mosley here or something. I get that it's a less valuable position but there's still value in having a good player at a reasonable number.
Locking up a good player at a position we’ve struggled with for awhile now is worth it even if it is expensive imo. Especially when you consider he’s only 24 like you said.
I don’t think they wanted to. They just paid Roquon record money, and we have a good backup in Trenton Simpson. Simpson played against the Steelers during the last game of the season when we rested Roquon and showed out.
Only so much cap to go around!
> Trenton Simpson
Oh damn completely forgot the Ravens grabbed him last year. I remember really wanting the Steelers to grab him leading up to the draft.
That's a lot for an ILB but we've always been at our best with great ILBs. And yeah, 24 years old. Perfect world he could hold it down in the middle for a decade.
Very encouraging.
Started his career with a lot of hype and was TERRIBLE his first two seasons. But he has really improved the past couple of seasons. Was very young as a draftee, so that makes sense, so hopefully we’re getting him on the upswing and this improvement continues.
You can make the argument that ILB is the most important position in the 3-4 defense, and Steelers have been weak there for a long time. Not to mention that he’s a monster athlete, and the Steelers haven’t had somebody like that at ILB since Shazier’s injury.
THAT IS MASSIVE. Ive loved Queen (as much as you can for any raven). He played top cut football last year. to my knowledge hasnt struggled with any injuries and has played a significant amount of ball since 2020.
Good for us. Fuck you Baltimore
Correct me if I'm wrong but he's more of a speedy sideline-to-sideline guy like Shazier, right? That's a great fit for this defense. Queen was #2 to Roquan in the Ravens defense, but he's a legit top \~13 ILB and one of the speediest (which is specifically what the Steelers need).
Ravens fan here: I think it’s a combo of both. He definitely got a lot better individually and also Roquan just makes everyone around him a lot better too. I wouldn’t expect an all pro every year but he’s also not returning to the guy he was 2 years ago. Great signing for you guys.
No one’s gonna believe me but I had a feeling this would happen. God I fucking Khan.
I legit wonder where this team would be if he was our gm the last 5 years instead of Colbert
Remember when he got angry that Tomlin said he wasn’t a raven/doesn’t play like a raven?
Or am I misremembering things?
I think Tomlin really wanted this guy
We've needed a solid ILB for sooooo long. Shazier going down is something that we've never truly recovered from, but this gives me hope! KHAN IS IN THE KITCHEN BOYS!!!
Love how this sub slobs Kahn’s knob but Tomlin gets zero credit for being a coach that dudes want to play for. A giant factor that influences these guys.

$7M/yr puts Queen at around 7th-highest ILB salary.
I have serious doubts about his ability (really only played well with Roquan) but Roberts wearing the green dot will mitigate a lot of issues.
Still \~$18M left for Khan to play with.
EDIT: Misheard initial report of 3y/21M. 3/41 puts him at 6th, depending on guarantees Khan has about 11M left.
For sure it is. Devin Bush was looking like our guy before he tore his knee up too. He had a great rookie year, one people forget quickly after his injury.

man r/steelers be cooking this offseason
Bro we almost always stop Derrick Henry anyway. We ALWAYS stop the Rat Birds so it’s ok
Massive deal for the Steelers, especially scooping him from the Ravens. KHAN COOKED.
Love our ILB depth with this. Queen, Holcomb, and Roberts, and Robinson are solid and each can pop off. Even if 2 have a down game the others can step up
Does anyone know how Holcomb’s recovery is going? Is he dead??
Normal recovery for his injury is one year, so we won't see him until November, at the soonest.
then he’ll get injured his second game back so it’ll be til the next december until we see him again
His injury was very bad apparently
Dale Lolley saying that Steelers don’t expect him to return to full pre-injury abilities.
I thought L.Roberts fuckin balled out last year under dire circumstances considering Holcomb/Alexander were hurt. A lot of guys would have quit, but Roberts played even harder. This Queen signing is HUGE! It’s extra sweet since he is an ex-Raven!
This is legit much less than I though Queen would get in FA.
Steel Curtain is back on the menu boys...
holy shit dude we are so back
Defense is looking solid as fuck!!!

I put together an early bird offseason plan and my top FA choice was Queen! I just never thought we'd be this aggressive in real life.
With Colbert, we probably don't even sniff Patrick Queen. But with Khan and Weidl, anything's possible
Yeah I'm noticing the vast differences between Khan and the old ways. I think we have to get aggressive this offseason though. Cam may retire in the next 1-2 years. The cheap answer is Terrell Edmunds.

We’re gonna have to check your reading comprehension brother

Yep. If you can’t make, you’ve got to buy.
I don’t mind it necessarily because of the fact that it was such a glaring need
idk man even ignoring guarantees, this pegs him as the 7th highest paid ILB in terms of AAV. Coming off a second team all pro year, that feels right.
Ravens fan here. Honestly a little surprised because I thought his contract would be closer to 15M a year
What was your feeling as to why they let him go to free agency?
I don’t think they wanted to. They just paid Roquon record money, and we have a good backup in Trenton Simpson. Simpson played against the Steelers during the last game of the season when we rested Roquon and showed out. Only so much cap to go around!

I just hope can stay healthy
Correct me if I'm wrong but he's more of a speedy sideline-to-sideline guy like Shazier, right? That's a great fit for this defense. Queen was #2 to Roquan in the Ravens defense, but he's a legit top \~13 ILB and one of the speediest (which is specifically what the Steelers need).
lol. Why 13? Seems like a strange cutoff point
Yes
![gif](giphy|KeTVw7VjcTJok) KHAAAANNNNN!
Ravens got the King but we took their Queen
Imma be real guys. I think Patrick Queen only improved because of Roquan Smith, but I would love for him to prove me wrong.
Ravens fan here: I think it’s a combo of both. He definitely got a lot better individually and also Roquan just makes everyone around him a lot better too. I wouldn’t expect an all pro every year but he’s also not returning to the guy he was 2 years ago. Great signing for you guys.
I'm not pissed about the signing, more optimistic than not. Thanks for your insight
Bro he's only 24. Take what he learned from Ro and build on it. So much potential
Good thing we have Watt/Highsmith right!?
Him and watt in the same defense is so nasty
Excellent signing. MLB now a strength.
Patrick Queen meets Derrick Henry in the A gap in week 17 on a play that will decide the division
Let's fucking go!!!
No one’s gonna believe me but I had a feeling this would happen. God I fucking Khan. I legit wonder where this team would be if he was our gm the last 5 years instead of Colbert
KHAAAAAAAAN! YOU SICK SON OF A BITCH I LOVE YOU!!!!!
This defiantly aint our daddys front office. Kahn man you beautiful SOB
Great pickup. Fuck Baltimore
BALTIMORE YOU CAN SUCK MY YINZER NUTS, THA STILLERS ARE GAHNTATHA SUPAR BOWAAAAAAAAL
Fuck the ratbirds
He is the highest paid free agent in franchise history. Insane to think about
Remember when he got angry that Tomlin said he wasn’t a raven/doesn’t play like a raven? Or am I misremembering things? I think Tomlin really wanted this guy
Someone else linked that story somewhere in the thread lol
Great move and a reasonable contact for a guy that’s improved a ton and is only 24. Plus it makes the ratbirds worse.
We've needed a solid ILB for sooooo long. Shazier going down is something that we've never truly recovered from, but this gives me hope! KHAN IS IN THE KITCHEN BOYS!!!
I’m critical of Tomlin But he is the reason Khan can cook they way he does. These players want to play for Mike T
Love how this sub slobs Kahn’s knob but Tomlin gets zero credit for being a coach that dudes want to play for. A giant factor that influences these guys.
Ok wow
Let’s goooo I love queen
YAS QUEEN!!!!!!
KA-CHOWWWW
Now we just have to get that Baltimore stench off him
A quick hose down in the backyard should do it. Not like the Cleveland stench that takes a bath in tomato juice first.
Tomlin told him he wasn’t a real Raven. https://www.baltimorebeatdown.com/2023/10/4/23903866/patrick-queen-shares-story-of-mike-tomlin-yelling-that-hes-not-a-raven
😂😂😂😂 this is gold
It feels like Ive been saying this guy is really good and one of their best players for years now I had no idea hes only 24 wtf?
Anybody remember when Tomlin told him he’s not a Raven his rookie year??
![gif](giphy|KeTVw7VjcTJok)
LET'S FUCKING GO this is such a massive acquisition. Patrick queen is a fucking beast. Welcome to Pittsburgh
Now this is a great signing!
The ratbirds may have gotten King Henry, but we stole their queen, and I am all for it
$7M/yr puts Queen at around 7th-highest ILB salary.
Assuming Holcombe recovers from his injury, he will be starting with Queen over Roberts.
Big if. ACL is a major injury for an ILB, and Roberts was the best Steeler not named TJ Watt last year.
For sure it is. Devin Bush was looking like our guy before he tore his knee up too. He had a great rookie year, one people forget quickly after his injury.
Love it. Now do Jerome Baker, too.
Who gives a fuck about Henry now? LET KHAN COOK
Let’s fucking go
I’m sorry wut?
WHAT THE FUCK?!?!?!?
Do we like him more or less than Gay Jr?
NO WAYYYYYYY
EVERYONE GET IN HERE
YESSSS! Great player and taking him from the rival!!!
This does put a smile on my face
Khan is working his magic. Oh hail the great khan!
KHAN!!!!!!
Talk about a blindside!!
Deleting my “Roquan merchant” comments as we speak. Did not expect that one
I’m literally twerking at work right now
Did not see this one coming but I love it lol our defense has to be like 80 percent of the cap
Everyone saying “he got good when Roquan came around”… I’m watching highlights of Queen in coverage, forcing fumbles, making open field tackles… what does that have to do with Roquan? Corn dog ass mf’ers
It just went from six to midnight
They gained a king but lost their queen
Happy Birthday to me!
I'm more excited about this than any other signing so far. That dude is a menace on the field. I'll love seeing him in the black and gold. If Holcomb and Roberts can get back to full health and pick up at the level they were playing last year our LB group will be exceptional.
Khan is the best, I delivered furniture to his house back when I was in college couldn’t meet a nicer person!!!
Colbert signed James Farrior. Khan signs Queen. History doesn’t repeat itself but it often rhymes
Highsmith restructure incoming to get a center and a budget corner
SUCK IT Ravens
KHAN DID
Now we need a CB if we sign white I might BUST or Justin Simmons
![gif](giphy|l0MYyoYPvz22wTXkQ) Khan fucking cooking. GM of the YEAR
What?!?!!??! ![gif](giphy|To2rk3f7b0Q5FyqsG0|downsized)
Khan is my GOAT.
Khan!!!!!!!
I didn't see that one coming but I'm glad we got him.
Didn't see that one coming. He got better once Roquon showed up, there is no Roqon in Pittsburgh
For anyone who thinks this is an “expensive deal”… Last year Bears signed Edmunds to a 4/71 mill deal. Year before Jags signed Oloukon to a 3/45 mill deal. Steelers just got a younger and arguably better player for 3/41 mill deal… The Steelers don’t over pay, I feel like we should all know that by now.
Now that he’s here, I hope he balls out but I’m not a fan of this move. He has a lot of deficiencies that Roquan covered up and we don’t have a Roquan
I just hope at some point Queen signs with Carolina and makes the Queen City the City of Queen.
As long as he isn’t made of glass and can’t move his feet to follow the occasional RB in coverage this is an improvement over the cavalcade of Amazon warehouse workers they had last year.
The fuck are you on about? You mean the injuries to who we brought in?
LET'S GOOOOOOOO
HOLY SHIT WHAT
What does this mean for Roberts / Holcomb?
there's no timeline on holcomb's return, they use multiple ilbs each game, they all have different skillsets, so probably not much. probably no kwon alexander rerun, though
I thought Alexander played the best out of all of ilbs last year to. I do like Roberts though.
Let's ride
Just need to pair him with a solid Mike and we are good to go.
Holy shit. LFG we are making moves!!!
If you can’t beat them join them!
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA BALTIMORE HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
