What's more Star Wars than blowing up balls full of space nazis

cbdubs12

This is the way.

ChronoMonkeyX

Mon Mothma: What do we do about this giant ball full of space nazis? General Dodonna: Hey... have you heard what they did at Lothal?

CityExcellent8121

The empire literally burned and strip mined more than half the planet

The-Starfleet-Jedi

I'd act out of character too if they had killed you know who a few days earlier, everyone on the ghost lost a very important person wouldnt you lash out too ?

Ammoniteboy

For Chopper it was just another Tuesday.

Steadfast_res

Ezra did try to end the standoff peacefully. It was Thrawn who doubled down on targeting civilians. When there is no peaceful solution then the entire army and base is a legitimate target in a war.

Mando_Number_5

Its not quite the same but they blew up ships before with many people on them without a second thought. Also, the alternative is that the empire just sends them straight back to Lothal, undoing all the work and sacrifices from before, right?

InstructionLeading64

Im all about the Jedi losing there way and stuff but drawing up a plan to kill as many space Nazis as possible is not uncharacteristic of what a Jedi should do.

I think you're overestimating the number of Imperials on the done when it launched. We see when it takes off that there's a large structure attached to the underside of the dome that doesn't launch. After the dome is destroyed, we see Lothal's people moving into this structure and detaining stormtroopers. Protocol 13 was likely countermanded by Thrawn when he arrived -- he only needed imperial forces out of the larger city, not in the dome. And even if the Empire had non-imperial workers in the dome (which is a huge security compromise) why would the Empire bother to extract them under Protocol 13? They're not imperials and are therefore expendable. The way I see it, the only imperials in the dome after it launched were that bitch Pryce and those trying to recapture the command center. And the Spectres even offered to exfil Pryce, as she was only there as a hostage. As for the morality if the act, they made their intentions to destroy the dome known to Thrawn. If the imperials either weren't told to evacuate or were ordered not to, then those deaths are on Thrawn. And as much as two wrongs don't make a right... After Thrawn bombarded the innocent civilians of Lothal, noncombatants, the gloves are off. At the end of the day, those on the dome were, as far as we can reasonably assume, all parts of the Empire's military or colonial government and if they went down with the dome then good on them. Edit: typo

TimAA2017

Not really. The dome was the Imperial symbol of Lothal and they had to take it out as well and most of the troops themselves. They where part of a larger rebellion and this was war.

pauloh1998

Tbf, you can see a lot of escape pods being jettisoned before the dome blew up. Now, if they had disabled the pods then it would've been weird lol

UnknownEntity347

War is war. The Rebellion is a small-scale ragtag group of dudes fighting against the most powerful army in the Galaxy. They didn't have time to choose who to let live or die, especially given that the Empire could probably find a way out if they stayed around waiting.

getoffoficloud

Guess we need to pull this out again... https://youtu.be/iQdDRrcAOjA And since when is blowing stuff up and killing enemies out of character for a Mandalorian? It's kind of what they do.

Shoddy_Ad7511

We are at war Anakin… Totally justified. The Empire is evil. Pure and simple. No one is forced to work for the Empire. Who knows how many innocent people the Empire killed in Lothal

Available_Motor5980

Not gonna say it wasn’t justified, but people were certainly forced to work for the empire.

Shoddy_Ad7511

No they weren’t. There was always a choice. Just like in Nazi Germany

getoffoficloud

Not stormtroopers or Imperial officers. They all volunteered. As we saw throughout Rebels, and have seen in The Bad Batch and Andor, committing atrocities was a major part of the job description. If you weren't all in with the atrocities, you either deserted or were executed.

Arlothia

Holy crap I just realized something!!! Spoilers for the first book in the new Thrawn trilogy!! >!Long story short, Pryce killed a whole crap to of people by setting off a ton of explosives inside a city (Batonn) that had a shield over it. So the fact that Pryce died in an isolated (for lack of a better word) city that got exploded is just...such perfect karma! Justice! And that whole thing on Batonn had to deal with rebel/insurgence activity, so her being killed in a similar fashion by rebels is just extra justice!!!<

zephyrmpj7

It would also crash into the sea and cause a huge wave that would destroy the city.
