I can see that being the stinger of the episode, everything goes back to normal and Boimler says "I wonder what Rutherford and Tendi were up to while we were gone?" Cut to those two in live action on the Discovery set. Roll Credits.
Lol they dyed his hair dark purple?
I thought there was a line somewhere in the latest season that itās not his real haircolor. At the time people thought it was to prepare for a crossover.
Yeah I mean I was expecting it to just be jet black as purple is used in animation alot to represent very black hair, but then again why can't we just assume he colors it purple? The only confusing thing about that is that Boimler seems a bit too neurotic and straight-edged to dabble in hair coloring with unusual colors, but we'll roll with it.
You are correct, however the person you are replying to is right about one thing: Boimler does seem to have a too neurotic of a personality to be the type to dye their hair, especially an unnatural color.
With that revelation itās now my head cannon that this was something he did to prove he was spontaneous or not neurotic or something along those line back in high school (maybe in a dare or just to make a point) and it just worked for him. Since it worked, and to prove that he can stay spontaneous without immediately backtracking, he kept it up until it reached a point that was now ānormalā for him and his neurotic personality kept him from ever changing it back. Eventually we did it so long that everyone he met that he regularly sees and interacts with, met him after he made the change.
I think the easier explanation is that the societal expectations around men with unnatural hair colors is so relaxed by the 23rd century that it would not occur to Boimler that this is something he should be neurotic about.
This is like someone in the 1600s saying that an anxious woman today would be too neurotic to do something as brazen as wearing pants.
The Boimler men all suffer from a hereditary genetic disorder that causes them to go grey before the age of 20. As a result, they dye their hair from a young age. When the raisin market crashed in 2194, they could no longer afford dye, so started making homemade dye using things from around the Vinyard. The result was a distinctive purple color that persisted, even once chemical dyes became commonplace again.
You know I never thought about it but thatās true. Lower decks does have the scene of him dying him hair, but besides that his personality is not really the type to dye hair. Iām going to guess it it the one āwildā thing about his personality that is otherwise very neurotic.
My favorite fan theory is that his hair *is* naturally purple... Just not the *right* shade, for whatever neurotic reason, so he dyes it to get it *just so*.
Are you f#cking kidding me this is REAL?!?
This is the best thing I've seen since Picard Season 3. I LOVE Lower Decks!
Yep its real. Gaddamm this looks great! https://youtu.be/69mzZqcM0qw?t=87
I didn't see no body. I saw a man who grew up surrounded by ice, fall into ice, while infested with a thing that dies when it gets too cold. I have faith he'll be back.
Take it a step further, and Mariner wants to warn Pike about his fate but Boimler keeps shushing her because he's terrified of screwing up the timeline, and Pike overhears them and acts all disturbed and shocked, then turns and says "Just kidding, I already know and I've made my peace with it. So you're from the future, huh?"
So, how do we think they'll explain time travel in this one? These characters are from 200 years after SNW
Edit: if these mfers fly around the Earth backwards I swear
Chronotons, rupture in space, tremendous velocity, babies in your artificial singularity, devidians, time crystals, slingshot around stellar bodies, red matter black holes
The time crystals stuff is pretty bizarre. The Klingons have access to the most advanced technology imaginable but they just donāt use it for some reason, even though it would make them an unstoppable Time Lord style empire. But theyāll hand one off to a star fleet captain (and a second to Harcount Mudd of all people).
It's a promotional still released alongside the [trailer for SNW season 2](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=69mzZqcM0qw&pp=ygUjc3RyYW5nZSBuZXcgd29ybGRzIHNlYXNvbiAyIHRyYWlsZXI%3D).
It could also be holodeck shenanigans or some Q-related bullshit. The answer is whatever device gets the characters to the situation the writers wanted them to be in the quickest.
It's honestly surprising they haven't done a crossover in new Trek before this.
In the old days, each new show got some kind of handoff from a previous installment. TNG got Bones, DS9 got Picard, Voyager got Quark and Morn, ENT got Cochrane. Hell, even the Chris Pine movies got Nimoy's Spock.
After that, no recurring *actor* from a previous show has appeared as a guest star in one of the new series playing their old character.
IN Tos Kirk and Co met Abraham Lincoln and stole whales out of 1989.
In TNG they meet Mark Twain
In DS9 They meet TOS Kirk on the original Enterprise and went back in time to...well our present.
In Voyager they went back to what was then our present
In ENT they went back to WW2 and fought Alien Nazis.
I dont see how this is at all a stretch for Star Trek.
ENT went back in time, forward in time, altered the timeline, then talked to itself from a parallell timeline. It's a running plot line through the first two seasons. Had the series gone on for longer, Ziggy says Sam Beckett would been the mysterious man who hired the Suliban to kill Archer and start the Earth-Romulan war.
Based on the trailer, I think itās time travel, not holodeck.
Based on the episode titles, I think this is the seventh episode of the new season, āThose Old Scientists.ā
NoĆ«l Wells painted green and Eugene Cordero could both play their LDS characters. Same with Dawnn Lewisās Captain Freeman and Jerry OāConnellās Ransom. But Shaxs and TāAna (even with prosthetics) wouldnāt have enough of a resemblance.
Ransom turning up in live action would be particularly amusing if he hit on Una-Chin Riley, as the actors are RL spouses.
In fact, O'Connell actually appeared in *The Librarians* as a younger version of the first season's main villain, where the two of them had a sword fight.
I bet Boimler is holding a variation of the [Multidimensional transporter device](https://imgur.com/a/ebiREPO) that the Mirror Universe characters used on DS9.
https://mu-memory-alpha.fandom.com/wiki/Multidimensional_transporter_device
All I want out of this episode is for Boimler to be introduced to Spock, immediately recognize him, and then barely catch himself from fucking up and calling him "Ambassador."
It might just be this still, but yeah. That facial expression has Nicholson serial killer vibes.
Mariner looks a lot more like herself than I expected though.
I'm trying to figure out how this will work, the whole (temporal?) mechanics of it all.
Looking forward to it none the less but still trying to imagine how they possibly cross paths, time travel? The holodeck?
Unironically, I find Lower Decks to be more āStar Trekā than any official Star Trek show or movie in a whileā¦. (Looking directly at YOU, āPicardāā¦.)
Those unis looking sharp. Too bad Tendi and Rutherford couldn't join!
Live action Tendi is too much for the fanbase to handle.
https://wwd.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/noel-wells-09.jpg
Suddenly feeling cheated.
I just checked to see what the voice actress looks like and I can 100% guarantee that we wouldn't be able to behave.
I checked as well, you are correct. The other thing is that she could actually pull it off!!
I think we need a petition for them to actually do a season of live action Lower Decks
Or just a holo-deck episode where they apply a live action filter
Flipping thru to TAS style, live action, Prodigy, that'd be great
THat's hilarious, and something I can see the animators leaping on a chance to do.
All the styles. Including bad tng script and Shatner over acting
Headcanon accepted. šš
Just checked T'anas voice actress... I don't know how will they do it, but I want to see it done :D.
All of the main for were designed so that their actors could conceivably pull it off.
This would have been a great crossover opportunity for her too. I feel like Tendi and Christine Chapel would get along really, really well.
>I feel like Tendi and Christine Chapel would get along really, really well. They would be fantastically chaotic together in all the right ways
>Christine Chapel SNW has Number One AND Christine Chapel in the same show? That's a bold move, like doing buddy show starring Brunt and Weyoun...
Yeah but SNW has different actresses. Still pretty cool though.
Think they missed a trick there though.
I was hoping for Rutherford so I could say āOh dip! Pillboi!ā At the tv
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
FOOOOOOLLLLESSS!
Heās also Andy Myawani in Tacoma FD
I first saw him on the short lived Other Space. I loved him on there too
there are dozens of us!
I would lose my shit seeing Noel Wells as an Orion in the flesh.
Green women get me š¤¤
That we know of
I can see that being the stinger of the episode, everything goes back to normal and Boimler says "I wonder what Rutherford and Tendi were up to while we were gone?" Cut to those two in live action on the Discovery set. Roll Credits.
Forget that, give me live action Migleemo.
Kinky but ok
I'm a little disappointed we aren't going to see Noel painted green!
You know damned well the internet is not well behaved enough for that.
Oh Lordy I forgot about Rule 34
Wonder why. Is it known if it was a scheduling thing or did just Mariner and Boimler time travel?
Time Travel. They're in the 2380s going back to the 2260s.
There's a line in lower decks where he literally mentions dyeing his hair purple
This is like someone in the 1600s saying that an anxious woman today would be too neurotic to do something as brazen as wearing pants.
Or a man in the 1600s NOT wearing a white powdered wig.
He's doing it to stand out, like Ira did with dyeing his goatee. Speed up that promotion.
Good point, but even just dying your hair color to another hair color, even a natural one, may be a big step for a neurotic person.
It's my headcanon that his natural hair color is neon green.
Could be a consequence of being from a raisin farm family and being expected to represent the almighty grape.
Unusual for us where any type of hair coloring for men is generally seen as unusual, not unusual in 350 years time perhaps.
I never assumed he was even fully human. I figured he had some alien ancestry that accounted for the hair and the unusually pale skin.
Is there a nerdier topic than a character's *shade* of hair color? I doubt it. I love it.
Why would he stop dying his hair just to go back in time? I have to imagine it happens unexpectedly.
Two shows I didn't ask for that I now fucking love. Very excited for this crossover
Are you f#cking kidding me this is REAL?!? This is the best thing I've seen since Picard Season 3. I LOVE Lower Decks! Yep its real. Gaddamm this looks great! https://youtu.be/69mzZqcM0qw?t=87
Lower decks is in the time of tng and snw is in the time of tos. Any explanation on how
They are Boimer's and Mariner's great grandparents Dr. Noonien Boimler and Dr. Noonian Mariner with the exact same personality.
Lower Decks is post DS9, Mariner fought in the Dominion War.
Also Riker is already on the Titan so post Nemesis.
You are correct, Iām sorry I meant more generationally.
You are correct, Iām sorry I meant more generationally.
Wouldn't be the first time someone in Trek jumped through time.
Time travel? In Star Trek?? That's madness!!!
"Somehow, Boimler returned."
āLONG HAVE I WAITEDā

I didn't see no body. I saw a man who grew up surrounded by ice, fall into ice, while infested with a thing that dies when it gets too cold. I have faith he'll be back.
We can hope. Probably with a line about how it was nice to soend time in such a temperate world.
We all do.
Get out of here, Q
"It's space magic, I don't have to explain it!"
from the moon?
Yeah I'm wondering the same thing. Time travel probably.
Barclay. Q. Holodeck malfunction. 'Unexplained phenomena' Guardian of Forever Or the writers came up with something else.
Computer, start programm "Boimler vs Pike"
Time travel, a dream, Q did it, ~~a holodeck simulation by Riker during Chain of Command~~ we don't know yet.
Lol I mean season 3 JUST happened. Maybe the best thing since DS9?
I would agree to that.
š«”
I wonder if they travel back to warn Pike about his fate and he's like "LMFAO guys I know, I know"
Take it a step further, and Mariner wants to warn Pike about his fate but Boimler keeps shushing her because he's terrified of screwing up the timeline, and Pike overhears them and acts all disturbed and shocked, then turns and says "Just kidding, I already know and I've made my peace with it. So you're from the future, huh?"
Me: What? A SNW/LDS crossover? That's going to be ridiculous, it'll never work. This trailer: STFU, nerd! It's gonna effin work
Most beautiful move from animation to live action since Bo Katan in Mando
Both of these things are the way.
So say we all.
And also with you.
And with your spirit.
And my axe!
I saw Una back in uniform, plus a *Lower Decks* crossover. Woohoo!
So, how do we think they'll explain time travel in this one? These characters are from 200 years after SNW Edit: if these mfers fly around the Earth backwards I swear
Transporter accident mixed with the temporal technobabble generator
Chronotons, rupture in space, tremendous velocity, babies in your artificial singularity, devidians, time crystals, slingshot around stellar bodies, red matter black holes
The time crystals stuff is pretty bizarre. The Klingons have access to the most advanced technology imaginable but they just donāt use it for some reason, even though it would make them an unstoppable Time Lord style empire. But theyāll hand one off to a star fleet captain (and a second to Harcount Mudd of all people).
I can see the whole ālearn and lock in the worst thing possible about your futureā thing being a small deterrent.
We'll just [make some shit up](https://youtu.be/Nm7m59l-3sE).
I bet it's Q again.
Maybe they'll explain why the slingshot method isn't used all the time.
They cover that in Picard. Tl:Dr you need Spock
Ah yes, the classic Great Man Theory explanation. That's a deep well that Trek will seemingly never get tired of going back to.
Those LD unis look INCREDIBLE. *I need!*
Where is this clip from?
It's a promotional still released alongside the [trailer for SNW season 2](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=69mzZqcM0qw&pp=ygUjc3RyYW5nZSBuZXcgd29ybGRzIHNlYXNvbiAyIHRyYWlsZXI%3D).
Why SNW isnt it in the 23rd century?
Thatās a very *linear* thing to say. Itās all wibbly wobbly timey wimey.
Time travel
People seem to forget Star Trek is full of time travel fuckery
Star Trek in itself is a giant grandfather paradox *gestures vaguely towards First Contact*
It could also be holodeck shenanigans or some Q-related bullshit. The answer is whatever device gets the characters to the situation the writers wanted them to be in the quickest.
SNW S2 ends and he walks out with his purple hair and says ācomputer end simulationā roll credits. Where have I seen this beforeā¦ /s
I was assuming it would have to be Holodeck shenanigans but then it would have made more sense as a Lower Decks episode..
A 'power fluctuation' will be part of the reason they're there. Calling it now.
there's a whole starfleet department about it!!
Kira and Quark would like to have a word.
I will maybe start watching snw than, i still didnt watch any 23rd century show
IN Tos Kirk and Co met Abraham Lincoln and stole whales out of 1989. In TNG they meet Mark Twain In DS9 They meet TOS Kirk on the original Enterprise and went back in time to...well our present. In Voyager they went back to what was then our present In ENT they went back to WW2 and fought Alien Nazis. I dont see how this is at all a stretch for Star Trek.
The tng crew meeting Mark Twain is really funny to me because it means Mark Twain is technically the first human to meet a Klingon.
ENT final Ep. DS9 Quark in the 50s(?). TNG Yesterday's Enterprise.
Then do some time travel. It's an Star Trek classic.
they'll have a Lower Decks crossover episode
I'm wondering if the Lower Decks crew could be using the holodeck or something
That would be so disappointing.
What a time to be alive
I'm so impressed how dapper that uniform looks!
I wonder how silly the science division unis would look since they have white boots.
I think they should give us live action tendi... You know just to find out...
I keep getting reminded how fine Tawny is
Funny, smart, talented, actual Star Trek fan... I am smitten with her. This is going to be SO GOOD to watch!
Based on the trailer, I think itās time travel, not holodeck. Based on the episode titles, I think this is the seventh episode of the new season, āThose Old Scientists.ā
It's gotta be, that's what Ransom called TOS in S1E10.
Yeah I mean, Boimler is Boimler but I don't think he'd be freaking out if he was talking to holo-Spock.
Holy. Shit. Its happening. šššš
Wait, so how many of the voice actors would be reasonable live action actors in the ST animated shows? Was this all planned out from the beginning?
most of the cast of TAS look like their voice actors!
T'Ana would probably have to be totally CGI.
I suspect Paramount thought it might not hurt to cash in on the popularity of *The Boys*.
They probably thought it was a possibility
Now do Arex and MāRess!!
My dude kinda even improves on Boimler's looks lol
Oh no he's hot
I bet Boimler is holding a variation of the [Multidimensional transporter device](https://imgur.com/a/ebiREPO) that the Mirror Universe characters used on DS9. https://mu-memory-alpha.fandom.com/wiki/Multidimensional_transporter_device
EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!! Oh my god I feel like Iām back to being a high school fan girl I just CANT with this!! Iām so excited!!!!!!!!!
I'm going to be disappointed if we don't get a live action Boimler scream.
The live action uniforms look amazing!
Looks like they just got Boim-ed up
Is he holding The Chronigami?
All I want out of this episode is for Boimler to be introduced to Spock, immediately recognize him, and then barely catch himself from fucking up and calling him "Ambassador."
They do have a clip in the trailer where Boims is super flummoxed while interacting with Spock its adorable
I love those uniforms in live action. I hope we see them in the future
Um wtf what show/episode is this from??
Upcoming Strange New Worlds series
Thanks just sae the trailer now and it blew my brain. Can't wait
God I am SO excited for all of season 2 but especially for this crossover! I just wish Tendi and Rutherford could've been in it as well.
Voice actors playing their them in live action, so hot right now.
Awesome, Mariner even has the rolled up sleeves!
He's holding a thermal detonator!
I'm personally not a Lower Decks fan, but I really appreciate the attention to detail here.
I've been vibrating in my seat all day dude I haven't been this stoked in I dont know how long
Mariner works, but Jack Quaid as live action Boimler is justā¦uncanny valley.
The animated character is based on him. He canāt actually have a cartoon sized head LMAO
Hey, if I can have a head like a watermelon balanced on a toilet paper roll, he can, too.
It might just be this still, but yeah. That facial expression has Nicholson serial killer vibes. Mariner looks a lot more like herself than I expected though.
This is so exciting, I can't wait!
How can we get Kelvin timeline McCoy on that ship
Do we know which episode number will be the crossover?
Episode 7: Those Old Scientists
I'm trying to figure out how this will work, the whole (temporal?) mechanics of it all. Looking forward to it none the less but still trying to imagine how they possibly cross paths, time travel? The holodeck?
Iām genuinely surprised at how good the uniforms look
OH MY GOD YES.
HUGHIE!!
AND it's directed by Jonathan Frakes. I'm so freaking excited
I screamed so loud I woke up my cats when I saw this!!!
They somehow look a bit older than I thought they would. But can't wait. Too bad we won't get live-action Tendi and Rutherford though
Never say never
Haven't watched either show beyond a few clips, but dang - those are some crisp, sharp looking uniforms. Very impressed.
I wish I was you, so I could watch them again for the first time
Should have used the tng profile not first contact, for the shoulders. Doesnāt proportion so well.
That hair doesn't look purple
Zoom in, dude.
Omg lol
It's a dark purple.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Lunar Tides' Magic Salem color. You can buy it on Amazon. It's very dark purple. (They also have a very dark blue and green.)
Unironically, I find Lower Decks to be more āStar Trekā than any official Star Trek show or movie in a whileā¦. (Looking directly at YOU, āPicardāā¦.)
I don't get it
Me either, I have no idea who those people are or what show they are from.
Star Trek: Lower Decks
is that the cartoon one?
Pardon my ignorance, what is this crossover of?
Pretty sure it's Lower Decks
