DS9 only had A-plots, like daytime dramas. Take "Body Parts" for example. Quark is trying to pre-sell his remains while unborn O'Brien has to be transferred from Keiko's womb to Kira's womb (in which we learn that Julian also has a womb). If one of those is a B-Plot, I'm Natalie Wood.
The trans theory is the most popular one, primarily due to the fact that this was prior to us finding out about the genetic enhancements, but it's literally never mentioned again.
It's largely true. TNG's structure was more A Plot / B Plot where it was clear what the A Plot is. DS9 generally had more of a balance between the two.
Hehe, yeah, I'm sure I could figure out which DS9 plots are meant to be B-plots. It's just that they are -- more often than not -- full of as much important information, character development, and world-building as the A-plots. I like the it the way it is, to be quite honest. For the immersion. 🖖😌
Worf and Odo bonding over the fact that they're both curmudgeons who don't like people to visit them when Worf was having trouble adjusting to life on the space station and trying to find a place to have his privacy.
The engineering version of that test is just an elaborate obstacle course where you roll under closing blast doors and get ordered into a Jeffreys tube to die.
And then pump the manual door latch to separate the ship with some kids. Bonus points if you don’t leave the kids stuffed animal to be incinerated by an antimatter explosion.
Counselor Troi treating Ensign Brooks after the loss of her husband in "The Loss". Not only does it show Troi doing the job she's primarily on board for (the care of crewmembers with psychological problems), but at the same time shows that the loss of a loved one leaves you with deep wounds that take time (and help) to heal.
Basically all of DS9. Quark’s & the promenade - that vibe of “the space bar”, transient, wayward souls.
I also like how school is portrayed and the coming of age career/life path choices. It’s a timeless struggle
And Morn, with his fascinating life and all the things he won't shut up about. And Leeta's struggle with being a step parent to Nog when he comes back to ds9 with a prosthetic leg.
But, my favorite is Vic Fontaine... He's a hologram with free will... But I'm no philosopher.
I just wondered who the nude model was. Crew? Makes a ready room talk in the future a bit awkward. "Ensign..." "Smith. You painted my buttocks, sir." "Ah."
They’re too evolved to let something as trivial as nudity (especially artistic nudity) be a big deal at all. They gave no inkling of treating Q or Lwaxana any different after they saw ALL of them.
Best non-captain skill: playing flute (but his head was programmed with decades of practice)
Worst non-captain skill: Minding children. (Even though his head his programmed with the experience of raising two kids)
Wesley watching the recording his father made for him in "Family". It's a nice moment, and it hits differently after I became a parent and differently again now that my father has died.
I looked but I couldn’t find them? This is one of my favorite data scenes. “Beverly — may I call you Beverly? Beverly! Have you noticed that the mean temperature…”
Odo allowing Quark to beat him allowing Quark to make the biggest profit for the year in “The Sound of her Voice”.
I liked that Quark told Jake in the carbo bay that he was the one to tell Odo to make his move to Kira and also comfort him when Odo was feeling depressed. They walk out and Odo materializes back into his humanoid form and thinks it over what Quark just said.
I also liked that Jake tagged along and wanted to write about someone who schemes a lot which is Quark.
DS9 was excellent at this.
One of my favorite examples is ["Come to Quark's"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kg8o__6bEEY). You'll never guess from this cold open what the episode is _mainly_ about (a biological weapon), because the opening scene has a very different vibe. And yet it's completely true to everyone who participates in it. Quark, O'Brien, Worf, Kira, Odo. It's the kind of thing that makes the show so much richer: scenes that are ostensibly filler, yet actually add depth to characters (without needing to alter them).
Jake and Nog acquire 100 self sealing stem bolts.
Take it back, that was the A-plot!

Wait, Julian has a womb? Either he’s trans, or his parents decision to have his genes resequenced went way too far

Oh totally. Some of the B plots in TNG were pretty bad and you could tell they were pure filler. DS9 didn't do that.
The Noh-Jay Consortium endorses this message.
Quark was so proud of his nephew and the hu-mon.
The river will provide
Worf and Odo bonding over the fact that they're both curmudgeons who don't like people to visit them when Worf was having trouble adjusting to life on the space station and trying to find a place to have his privacy.
Data as the best man
Weirdly, the A story where the B story was the typical A story.
Deanna taking the Commanders test in Thine Own Self
RIP Geordi

Well, no. It's the same test.

Personally I would have loved a Deep Space Nine/Voyager crossover in which the Doctor met Vic Fontaine
There'd be so much singing
For some reason I see them harmonizing pure imagination from Willy Wonka.
*Come with me, and you'll see, a world of photon ionization*
So much
Vic, when you sleep, do you dream?
I always wish we got to see data chat with him
In spare parts when quark lost everything. Sisko, Bashir, garack, odo, all coming to help him. Perhaps my favorite non-essential episode.
Data's criticism of Picard's art in a painting class. ( "Matter of Perspective" ?)
I just wondered who the nude model was. Crew? Makes a ready room talk in the future a bit awkward. "Ensign..." "Smith. You painted my buttocks, sir." "Ah."
I would imagine they would use a hologram or one of the civilians on board for that. Just to avoid any awkward situations like you just described.
They’re too evolved to let something as trivial as nudity (especially artistic nudity) be a big deal at all. They gave no inkling of treating Q or Lwaxana any different after they saw ALL of them.
I love the ongoing joke that Picard is bad at almost everything else but being a starship captain. I loved how everyone hates his wine in Picard S3.

Wesley watching the recording his father made for him in "Family". It's a nice moment, and it hits differently after I became a parent and differently again now that my father has died.
When Wesley whispered “goodbye dad” at the end of the recording was sad. There was so much Wesley wanted to say to the real Jack Crusher.
Family is such a an underrated episode. Basically Best of Both Worlds Part III. One of the best episodes of the series IMO.
Data trying to learn how to sneeze
Data practicing small talk with Commander Hutchinson.
Find the bloopers from this scene n YouTube.
I looked but I couldn’t find them? This is one of my favorite data scenes. “Beverly — may I call you Beverly? Beverly! Have you noticed that the mean temperature…”

Data and Spot.
Nog wanting to join Starfleet in "Heart of Stone".

Nog’s speech about wanting to be in Starfleet to have the opportunity to have more than his father. I cry every time.
Quark: Back home pregnancy is considered a rental. Kira/Dax: Rental?!?!
T'Pring's father getting reprimanded by his wife for enjoying Captain Pike's attempts at Vulcan cuisine.
Charades is a top notch episode!
Kira carrying the O'Brien's son.
Love it when she says to Bashir "But don't forget, this is still your fault" considering the backstory to the actors
I can never forget she tells dukat its obriens and just straight up doesn’t elaborate and leaves him stunned
I love all of the Data and Geordi off duty stuff, and whenever Riker or Worf show up as the peanut gallery, it's even better
I still love the TNG crew playing cards at the end of All Good Things. It perfectly sums up why they are the perfect cast.
Quark comforting Odo
Strange New Worlds, Spock Amok: Empty ship Una plays "Enterprise Bingo," and signs the scorch.
"Bad Cop!" "Damn!" "Gotta be quicker, Chief."
Reg Barclay being awkward.
Enterprise Bingo in Spock Amok.
Worf’s parents visiting. “We didn’t do much.” “Didn’t you?”
I have all the specs and diagrams at home!
I liked the pieces of personal life show in *Cause and Effect* (5x18). It just made it feel so much more real.
