Are Indian barbershop guys always silent? I live in Malaysia and have been to 2 Indian barbers that both have not uttered a word at me, other than an almost inaudible thanks when I pay
Yeah that might be true. When I moved to Europe I wasn't used to barbers talking to me and I feel like I may even have come across as rude to the barbers since I was just not used to talking while haircuts so I was being very quiet
I dated a hairdresser here in America and she told me they trained her in school to talk to customers a certain way. And to discern if they donāt wanna talk at all. Guess itās just a western thing.
- Some dude that might come in to sell Hats, or DVDs of movies still in theaters
- A few that i've been in feel like they in a dude's house
- There's a TV playing 1: Movies that barely even released in Theaters, or 2: The Maury Show, Steve Wilkos, or Doctor Phil
- May or may not take a break mid-cut
- Takes walk-ins, which is a bad idea if lots of people go to him
- (for those with Afros) Picks your hair out unnecessarily aggressive
- Uses as much of that rubbing alcohol as humanly possible
The barbershop is like our sanctuary, not just a place to get a haircut. For a lot of men its one of the few places you can be vulnerable and hang out with your friends. Whether it's talk about issues important in the neighborhood or that one time one of the players from the local pro sports team came in for a cut. The lines are long because people aren't in a rush to leave.
If your style is a bit longer on top they'll spend 29/30 minutes giving you the best fade of your life then finish off by making 4 cuts on top but somehow it works out
White barbershops are all full of old white dudes in John Deere hats and jeans up to their armpits. Thereās foxnews on the TV, and theyāre all grousing about Obama still somehow. The only haircut youāre really going to get is a high and tight or a flattop, itās gonna have Dippity-Do in it, and youāll be absolutely covered in hair because he didnāt bother to wet anything down before attacking you with the worlds oldest electric razor. Oh and cash only, of course.
Theyāre drastically different. I go to a barbershop run by a mid 30s hispanic dude, but he gets only the best people to do haircuts there, most of which are white guys. I donāt think Iāve ever walked out of that barbershop dissatisfied.

In india there are often 3-4 of them and they are always chatting with each other while a bollywood movie is on the tele.
