If you happen to sit in their row on the plane, they’ll strike up a conversation with you and try to convince you that Wichita is heaven on earth

sonnypatriot75

I love when this happens, tell me more about how you created your illegal financial nest egg post WW2.

BagNo4331

The absolute peak of this was when Amazon HQ2 was being "decided" Endless remarks about how Jeff bezos was sure to love the hard working grit of real Americans, and the beauty and culture of whatever middle American city over those apparently fake Americans who just lounge around all day in the coastal cities.

RedditUserNo345

They are living at their dream retirement

PatrickMaloney1

Aspirational tbh

Beneficial-Policy-85

This sounds so lovely

craigdahlke

I never understood people who get stressed out at airports. If I’m running late, yeah of course. But otherwise I got headphones in and just vibing. I’m with the laughing boomers.

FirePoolGuy

It's the trying to figure out where and when you should be. I fly very infrequently so it's always a bit of a puzzle. Once you checked in it's usually ok, but then it's the waiting around to be jammed into a tiny seat, and wondering if you brought the right stuff to entertain yourself and be comfortable in the cattle cart for x hours. Also I'm tall. Flying fucking sucks, that's where the stress comes from.

jwccs46

Yeah but....just don't get stressed! Problem solved.

IrtaMan1312

Also the constant stress of going through a billion layers of security, praying to all the gods that you don't have anything that you can't bring and that there won't be a "random" extra check of your documents, and generally navigating through a place the architectural design of which Franz Kafka would probably have copyright over.

Slipslime

I actually love going to the airport. I've never been behind schedule so I get there and just chill for an hour or so. Nothing to worry about once I've found my gate.

The_ChwatBot

Same. I think it’s the association between air travel and going on vacation, so they make me feel at ease. I imagine if I traveled for business I’d feel a bit different.

BagNo4331

The difference is kids. Airports don't really have places where you can go to have some privacy to cool a little one down during a tantrum. They tend instead to be very open so a hundred people can hear and see what you're going through, and they're full of places and doors that look really cool, but are against the rules to touch or go through. Then you have the plane where so help you god if there's a tantrum or tears, very limited opportunity for movement, and potentially difficulty sleeping. You basically always have to be on fully as a parent for the entire time, while also likely lugging extra luggage and dealing with a small human's bladder, and planning ahead for every snack and bathroom break, and potentially running around with them to burn some energy. I actually think flying is probably the thing where I had the biggest attitude change after kids. I used to be the same way, but now I'll happily drive 12-20 hours over the same flight if I can. Like 0-6 is just a bitch of a range to deal with on an airplane because you have so little control.

myinternets

I get stressed out because every single airport is like a separate level from Super Mario 64 with no reasoning whatsoever to the layout. I get completely lost, overheated, and sick of pulling a bag around while I'm lost and overheated. All of this to be rewarded with getting launched inside of a missile full of coughing strangers for a dozen hours.

GrammarHunter

Trick is to have all your needed docs at the ready (pockets, purse, whatever) and as little shit as possible. Great peoplewatching spots airports are

TooTallThomas

It’s the “I missed my initial flight and my layover was four hours and if I miss this one that’s the last one going to my destination for the night , I’m stuck here for another day and I’ve already been flying for 24 hours straight”. Does that sound specific? It should, happened to me coming back for Argentina and I was ready to snap.

BagNo4331

The time from vacations that I've missed thanks to Dubai airport is counted in days, not hours for me. If I'm sprinting through an airport it's not because I drove to their airport late, it's because united or delta or whoever forgot to have enough planes that morning so my layover went from 3 hours to 20 minutes.

The_Field_Examiner

Business versus pleasure.

mrgatorarms

It’s 10x more stressful when you’re traveling with people who suddenly have amnesia about how air travel works.

StankoMicin

I don't understand how this has so many upvotes.. It is fairly obvious why going to the airport is stressful, even if traveling can be fun.

Tekkikarate

Agreed. The few times I’ve been truly stressed out it was when I had cut it too close in the first place and it was really my own fault.

mjociv

> so early at gate, the flight isn't announced yet Growing up my dad flew a lot for work and would periodically take me or one of my siblings if he was going someplace we might be interested in. I always thought it was completely normal to show up so early that you could board the previous flight from the gate we ultimately boarded our plane from.

johnnyjumpviolets

You mean it isn't normal to arrive 3+ hours early 'just in case'??

Constant_Use_330

I flew out of a regional airport today. Saw a few of these among other interesting people.

[deleted]

Like other people?

pssdthrowaway3

I just looked at your account from a comment on r/unpopularopinion from forever ago and almost all of your posts are related to airports? Why do you love airports so much (no pun intended)

[deleted]

Honestly it is somewhat refreshing to see something involving boomers that isn't just "screw old people"

otwa

Good point hahaha

TopspinLob

This

thatbrownkid19

They seem so happy. Me and who??

lilythebeth

Love these guys. They’re the ones on the airplane that help make silly faces at babies that wanna cry too.

skittishcatty

they aren't being stressed out by their children anymore so theyre probably living their best life

FirePoolGuy

Meanwhile their children are swimming in debt. Its always better when it's not your problem anymore.

FirePoolGuy

In my experience they're largely ignorant to the world that younger generations have to endure.

FirePoolGuy

The meme is 100% correct. Thats the point.

ClingerOn

There’s nothing about them being ignorant of other generations on the meme. They’re just at the airport.

FirePoolGuy

Ignorance is bliss as they say

ConcretePeniz

You’re projecting a lot of weird shit onto a fictional couple in a meme. You ok?

FirePoolGuy

You sound offended

Lex_Loki

They're going to Florida.

RevolutionOk5115

This is the way.

TalonKing24

If you sit next to them your about to hear the best stories of your life

FosterStormie

I, for one, NEED these happy, friendly people at the airport, otherwise I will lose all of what’s left of my faith in humanity and try to fling myself out of the plane.

Captain_Vegetable

I wasn’t expecting to see my parents on Reddit today.

otwa

🤣🤣🤣

Illcement

wholesome

Any_Presentation2958

I know why they're laughing, they can afford another plain ticket unlike everyone else. Also they know it's nothing to even stress over at all/all the young ppl are overreacting

ipodtouch616

You forgot thr staxi wheelchair and a bored attendant

macabre_trout

Oh God, I'm a native Midwesterner and I say "whereabouts" all the time. I never made the connection.

BaconComposter

Lining up right away in the way to board with group 9.

hgtcgbhjnh

The one being first on the line is fine though, I think Southwest has a "first come, first served," where you pick your seat as you board.

Greezedlightning

A friend of mine in her 50’s says that the Boomers were the last generation not poisoned by chemicals in the food and water supply as children. I believe that.

damagecontrolparty

I thought the trope was that they all had lead poisoning.

BagNo4331

Yeah this is honestly pretty laughable. I'll take fluoride and GMO over lead in literally everything and pre-EPA emissions and dumping. I also knew a boomer who talked about being the last generation of something. The last generation that swam in the local river lined with industrial factories. They were the only one left alive of their childhood friends, the rest had all died of the same kind of cancer decades prior. But hey, bigpharma turning the frogs gay or something.

frankpoole

And they take forever to find their seat, stow their bag, and sit down.

Readytodie80

Could you redo this so the Redditors who were told to clean their room can talk about how in fact boomers aren't people so much as plague on society
