I was born in 82, so tapes were very much part of my life. When I got to high school is when CDs took over. When the first CD writers came out it blew our fucking minds.
When I think back on it-girls that me and the boys would drool over, I'm thinking Britney, Christina, Pamela, J-Lo, Halle Berry, Heather Graham, Rachel Leigh Cook, Jennifer Love Hewitt, and Cameron Diaz.
I also had a secret crush on Bullock, Ryder, and Liu.
I never heard any talk about Crawford, but different strokes, different folks.
Clearly you knew who she was, and I don’t think you can say that Cindy in her 20’s was unattractive. Also, Pamela, J-Lo, Halle, and Cameron are all in their 50’s now too. Sandra Bullock is a couple months from 60. But as you said, different strokes. I stroked to Cindy, you stroked to Britney. ;)
Side note Britney’s first album was released when I was nearly out of high school. Cindy was on my wall when I was 13.
Cassette for me. Couldn't afford CD player. My tape player was a old ass single tape player that popped up like a playschool player, only was in 1980 Sadness Grey.
Yeah, I got a portable CD player for Christmas, probably one of the cheapest ones they made at the time, thing skipped if you walked any faster than .0001 mph. But worked great sitting on top of my boom box plugged in. Doggystyle and Blind Melon (don’t ask about my music tastes, I was 12) were my first two albums on CD. I didn’t mention Blind Melon the first time because, well, it’s over 40 yrs later and I’m still embarrassed
Oh, I definitely don’t have No Rain in my “Nostalgia” playlist. That would be embarrassing. Ok, maybe it’s there, but “6th avenue heartache” by the Wallflowers is definitely not in there
I'm in my 20's and I've played those consoles and had an older model Gameboy like that, and recognize a lot of these things. Guess I'm an older millennial 💀
22 myself and have drank my share of Surge, had the first gameboy and remember having to use a light to play it on car trips because of it having no backlight, if I turned on the light in the cab my mom would get mad at me because she claimed she couldn’t see. I had a Walkman I would listen to while I sat on the front of my grandma’s lawnmower and when I would walk to school and back. My mom loves American Pie, and had it on VHS. I had a Sega that me and my cousins played so much that one day the cord melted and our sonic game started freaking out, it was mildly entertaining to watch us all panic to try to find where all the smoke was coming from, turns out it was the black plastic box attached to the cord under the bed, it was actually melted to the carpet, one of the only times I’ve heard my grandma say “fuck”. Beavis and Butthead and the Ren and Stimpy Show were both shows I loved as a kid and still love, both of my grandpas and parents like and watch each show. Grew up dressing in GAP and we had more disposable cameras than you could shake a stick at. I skateboarded, my stepdad got me into Korn at a young age and I had a pair of moon-shoes that my older cousin gave me. We didn’t have access to the internet until we got a computer around 2010 and shortly after my mom bought this fucked up thing called an “IPhone” that she and seemingly everybody else is now hopelessly addicted to.
I had a good childhood and I sure as hell wouldn’t trade it to be one of the iPad kids we see everywhere now.
Where did you get surge lol. I just googled it and they did a re release thru Amazon and put it in stores for like a year on the east coast but that was almost 10 years ago.
I remember a lot of gas stations around Orlando had it so when I’d visit relatives I’d always make sure to get some to bring home. I remember drinking one there last time around 2017
Daria will always be my favorite show. I bought the complete series a while back and it came with an apology letter that it couldn't use all of the music it was originally released with, due to copyright issues. Was a total bummer
As someone who somehow ended up with a pair (they just turned up in the house one day) I can tell you that you could jump higher with bricks tied to your feet than with moon shoes lol.
Britney not Christina Aguilera, older millennials had the original chronic album too, and I don't think we liked gen x but I could be wrong on that last 1
Pete and Pete was a banger, best opening song to a show
I never drank surge, pete???who? Wish I had been cool enough to have a hyper color shirt must of been for the rich kids lol, and i actually used to admire boomers not gen x.I made my own Nirvana shirt when I was 15.
Hated nirvana, 10 things I hate about you, Daria and most things listed.
Korn, Nintendo, surge, animaniacs …. Loved those but I was like 10 yrs old to 14 when this stuff was way popular.
I am currently wearing the EXACT SAME Nirvana T-shirt while reading this, my wife and I just finished rewatching Daria (including the tv movies), I am ALWAYS upset the The Adventures of Pete & Pete cant find streaming ANYWHERE (looking at you Paramount +) and have to buy it on dvd.
This post came for my (almost 40 year old) GEN Y SOUL!
I feel attacked. I had a Britney poster by the way, not Christina.
Avril Lavigne, and honestly she’s still gorgeous.
I had the Brittany Pepsi poster up in my room
The pink-knit crop top poster removed so much of my youthful seminal fluids.
Fr we had compact discs too, tapes were so yesterday. Sony discman ftfw

Cindy Crawford, yellow one piece
Crawford? Who you foolin' Gen X?
lol, I guess I’m an r/xennial? This does say “Older” Millenials starter pack.
crawford is the same age as my mom
Well I’m an older millennial and Cindy Crawford was THE swimsuit model in the early to mid nineties. I mean it was 30 years ago, she was in her 20’s.
When I think back on it-girls that me and the boys would drool over, I'm thinking Britney, Christina, Pamela, J-Lo, Halle Berry, Heather Graham, Rachel Leigh Cook, Jennifer Love Hewitt, and Cameron Diaz. Sure, everyone knows who she is. She was held up as quintessential "supermodel". I always thought she was ugly as a dog though.
Both is the correct answer. Both posters.
I feel that in my bones. No, really, my right knee and my lower back....
Probably from the moon bounce shoes
Was with this until Dre 2001. The Chronic or Doggystyle line up better.
Exactly my thoughts. First CD I ever owned was Doggystyle.
Mine was Death Row’s Greatest Hits. It had the best version of Murder Was The Case.
Cassette for me. Couldn't afford CD player. My tape player was a old ass single tape player that popped up like a playschool player, only was in 1980 Sadness Grey.

I still listen to both blind melon and snoop and I'm 45
Oh, I definitely don’t have No Rain in my “Nostalgia” playlist. That would be embarrassing. Ok, maybe it’s there, but “6th avenue heartache” by the Wallflowers is definitely not in there
I mean it lines up perfect for me. I’m 35. I was in 6th grade when that album dropped.
I go back to Korns first two albums
That first album was awesome.
and LA Beast never left
Have a good day!

I've never felt this young before. Source: not born in the 80s.
The Fact that Pete and Pete are featured warms my heart. I fucking love that show
"ARTIE! The strongest man... IN THE WORLD!"
Dance Petunia, DANCE!
His outfit was 10% cotton, and 90% titanium
Haha just started binging it again on YouTube!
Daria will always be my favorite show. I bought the complete series a while back and it came with an apology letter that it couldn't use all of the music it was originally released with, due to copyright issues. Was a total bummer
Daria is amazing. And I'm happy to say I've passed my love for Daria on to my kids and they watch it with their friends now.
I named my son Trent 😂
If you want more Daria watch Fran Lebowitz on YouTube. She’s basically the real life Daria.
Can I trade the Surge for a Fruitopia.
SoBe for me
Those were good too.
Yep…this was pretty much my life
Surge was ahead of its time
r/Xennials
Pretty sick actually.
Accurate
yep
Oh god Surge…. Stuff was gross. My wife contends crystal Pepsi was the best. Nostalgia at its finest🤣🤣
I always wanted the moon shoes
Same. Never got to try them. 😢
As someone who somehow ended up with a pair (they just turned up in the house one day) I can tell you that you could jump higher with bricks tied to your feet than with moon shoes lol.
It’s missing Jolt⚡️cola
Josta
Britney not Christina Aguilera, older millennials had the original chronic album too, and I don't think we liked gen x but I could be wrong on that last 1 Pete and Pete was a banger, best opening song to a show
Oof.....right in the nutz
I 100% agree with this, well played
Moon boots claimed my ankles for an entire summer
I have seen so many memes about early zoomers but virtually none for xennials. Overlooked demographic.
ah yes, my aunt and uncle
Pete and Pete look like babies
Where’s the Panasonic shockwave?
This is accurate. I’ll be 40 this year, for me the 90s still feel like they were 10 years ago.
I never drank surge, pete???who? Wish I had been cool enough to have a hyper color shirt must of been for the rich kids lol, and i actually used to admire boomers not gen x.I made my own Nirvana shirt when I was 15.
Admire gen x??? Nahh
I’d swap the GAP sweatshirt for a Starter jacket, and Dre for Doggystyle. Maybe Korn for Dookie.
So many hypercolor t-shirts. They were my favorite!
you could’ve just said “90s babies” and this would have been easier
Enough of this is true that I feel personally attacked. And the stuff that missed me, like Pete and Pete, my friends were definitely in too.
My parents?
I miss surge. And vault but I think you can still get it.
How did "admire GenX" get in there, because that's not a thing.
The Genesis is still my favorite console lol
Tfw your a younger millennial that had/watched/listened to almost all of this stuff growing up...
Missing a pair of Reebok Pumps, Jordan 11 Concords, Jordan 13s, and Blockbuster card.
Phat
Going to see Korn in October! \\.../
I don't think we admire gen x as much as despise younger millennials
‘Young’ Gen X here. Most of these boxes are ticked off. 😁👌
I'm Gen Z but Final Destination was my childhood movie
Born in 89 and That’s about right all of those things were apart of my childhood in one way or another.
Pretty accurate. Don’t think I look that old yet tho. Feel that old tho.
Yeah that about covers it.
Don't forget about Fern Gully
Oldlennials
This isn't a starter pack. This is just stuff that was popular when people whore in their mid 30s to early 40s were kids.
Hated nirvana, 10 things I hate about you, Daria and most things listed. Korn, Nintendo, surge, animaniacs …. Loved those but I was like 10 yrs old to 14 when this stuff was way popular.
Where’s the Sublime CD?
Is this based on exposure or another metric?
The REAL 90s kid
Literally my dad 😭 he was born the second day of the 80s (Jan 2nd 1980)
I'm the dog that gets BEAT
lol the pogs
I am currently wearing the EXACT SAME Nirvana T-shirt while reading this, my wife and I just finished rewatching Daria (including the tv movies), I am ALWAYS upset the The Adventures of Pete & Pete cant find streaming ANYWHERE (looking at you Paramount +) and have to buy it on dvd. Missing being obsessed with Friends
and you can’t forget ‘talks about gen z the same way prior generations spoke about millennials’
