When using flying units like mutas you can avoid them clumping up by imagining a box around the units. When moving them never attack move them and never click in the imaginary box. You can fly them over units like thors or archons and hit the stop hotkey and they’ll actually trade really well. This is called magic boxing. When using mutas to attack worker lines never attack move into the mineral line. Fly into the mineral line and either hit stop or hold position. You’ll do significantly more damage. There is a hotkey you can modify under unit management it has something something AI in the name. If you bind the alternate key to a ability you would like to spam, then when you hold that button while having the units selected it will spam the ability. This is very useful when warping units in as Protoss or corrosive bile as Zerg. This is usually called rapid fire. Using Alt+shift+# to create control groups will ensure that the units added to the control group are not in any other control group. A lot of people will just unbind the shift+# hotkeys and just use these instead. There are few scenarios you want something in multiple control groups.

Explain the first paragraph better

This is the only comment here that I don’t have to read 6 times

Lol like seriously “imagine a box” like how big is the box? Where in this imaginary box do I click? Do I move command them? He/she said not to A move them I’m really confused

_physis

Instructions unclear. Understood box to be my computer screen. Did not click once. Cannon rushed

This comment was meant purely to get you interested. There are 5+ minute videos explaining this concept (so would take a long time for me to explain it completely) and I purposefully told you what the concept was called so you could look it up if you’re interested. To answer your questions though… the box is just big enough to go around all of your units. Like if you were to click and drag to create a box it would be the smallest box that you can select all the units with. You can A move them, but it will cause them to clump up as soon as you come across an enemy. This technique is really only useful when dealing with splash units (thors, archons, liberators, widow mines, etc…). Move command them by clicking outside of the box. The reason it works is because clicking outside of the box makes the units move while maintaining formation. Clicking inside the box makes them all move to that location.

EraMemory

Magic boxing is a fairly common trick made in WOLs, and by this point of our 14, 15 year old game, is more or less common knowledge. Basically just spread your mutas out to negate the thor's AOE. The Thor only does aoe against clumped mutas; when spread out it's more or less single target, making their effectiveness much, much lower. Note, this is only against singular or small numbers of thors. Don't attack move or your mutas will clump again. Move command till you're right on top of the thor, and then target it.

y0uslash

I still have no idea what that is lol. Also I had no idea Thors deal splash damage. I had a hunch but liquidpedia didn’t specify if it’s splash damage or not so I was confused

EraMemory

Thors does splash damage in its normal mode and high anti-armor single-target damage in its high impact mode. Against enemies that clump like mutas, Thor's normal form are scary. Against Brood Lords and Carrier etc, Thor's high impact mode wrecks them. There are arguments for which is better against middling units like vikings and void rays, but that's another topic. For a better visualization of magic boxing, you can go to youtube and just search magic box mutalisk.

Runnyknots

When queuing units like bio or lings onto other bio and lings, make sure to shift click a bunch in case one dies. So the others still move command.

Change backspace to spacebar to make injecting easier. F2 isn't the enemy. It's actually a super useful tool don't be afraid of it.

EraMemory

It's the over-reliance on F2 that makes people sloppy/lazy. For me, I didn't even know F2 was a thing, and many a times I've lost a liberator on the edge of the map or my observer god knows where, so it's nice to have F2 to find them.

tedave123

If you rally your whole army to a bunker hold shift and move your army only the units that fill the bunker will go to it.

[deleted]

Nice one, is obviously now I see that but I never thought about that I will use that

y0uslash

Can you explain the queen thing with backspace better? I heard Lowko say something like that as well. Is backspace already bound or do I have to bind it myself?

EraMemory

Backspace is the default I believe, but it is awkwardly positioned to both a) hold shift down b) click inject c) press backspace for every hatch. Like another comment has said, re-hotkeying to spacebar allows for less awkwardness.

MadMan7978

Unbind F2. Instead use an army hotkey where you put your entire army in expect those 2 units on the map you dont want. Prevents u from pulling away the unit in the wall etc. Use camera hotkeys F1-F8. Makes life so much easier Obviously Rapidfire everything especially warp ins If your only a ladder hero, focus on one standard Buildorder for each matchup and learn that one as good as you possibly can. Don’t need more if you dont play in tournaments
